Congratulations on a nice winter day. It looks to be mid-teens F. How much new stuff did you get?

In Winter, my husband and I watch quite a bit of Netflix. In the middle of the day.

We finished the final season of Afterlife, today. Ricky Gervais is a gifted man. Acting, humor- dark, dark humor which we laugh at and I cry with. His surrounding cast- very eclectic. Or eccentric.

The ending…
It’s a choice, innit?

It'll be a Jimmy G. versus Tommy B. match-up next weekend, but without the Tommy B. guy.

3 out of the 4 games this weekend has seen the putatively "weaker" team prevail. Bills' game is on-going.

Exciting ending to the Rams-Bucs game. So far all three of this weekend’s games have ended with a walk-off field goal by the visiting team. Will Chiefs-Bills be different?

I have been a registered Independent for over 50 years. Today I did something totally new. I donated money to a Democrat.

That Democrat is Kyrsten Sinema whom I never voted for in the past two AZ elections.

Once the AZ Democrat committee censured her, she became my favorite candidate for 2024. Of course, she will run against a lifeless RINO like Ducey or McSally or Brnovich.

I will also donate to anyone who runs against the weasel Mark Kelly. It is time to fight against The Machine.

So, anyway, she asks me "whens our anniversary?" I knew the month but could not recall the date.
So, I said "Thursday"
.
Checks her phone calendar and I got lucky, is on a Thursday, several weeks away.
Check Thursdays, recall the date but forget to get a card.

Wake up middle of night day of, quietly go through box of all saved cards and find prior anniversary card with no date on it. Nice one, too, from back in the early days.

Expecting her to be amused, I am surprised when she does not realize it is from the closet box,and is so happy getting that card that she actually goes out that day and buys me a card.

Valentines day and her birthday coming up, no problem.

As I was watching the Chiefs-Bills game today, I saw in one of the end zones at Arrowhead Stadium the words painted in the grass in the end zone “Advance Social Justice”. For cities such as Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, Washington DC, and in Prof. Althouse’s backyard in Wisconsin, Madison and Milwaukee, advancing “social justice” has meant increased crime, both misdemeanors and felonies, including a major spike in murders. It appears to me that all “Advance Social Justice” has done is advance lawlessness, anarchy, and divisiveness in our country.

I meant figuring out what the ending meant was a choice. The other is a choice, too.
The wrong choice.

Full Moon- you got very lucky, lol
It’s 4F and snowed here again. So cold.

Valentine's Day . . . comes in February this year, right?

Our anniversary, OTOH, is easy to recall; getting married on April Fools Day seemed to be tempting fate.

What makes After Life endurable, pleasurable even, is the sunny weather and quiet English village backgrounds. The show features some bleak characters who flounder around and gain weight. Their lives are stymied and pointless but worth living because the weather's fine and the scenery is pleasant. If any of these stories took place in some hideous housing project under a slate grey winter sky, the suicide option would be so much more attractive...There just aren't that many consecutive sunny days in England. Lots of quiet villages though. England has the most soothing countryside of any country in the world. The tourist board should sell holidays to PTSD sufferers.

Two damned good teams just finished playing. Pity they met now and not in the Super Bowl. But I think the better team is, in fact, the one going on.

A non-Ignorant Tattoo tattoo question, which also kind of ties into the Vogue cover from yesterday: Why do dark-skinned people get tattoos with black ink? The lack of contrast makes the artwork harder to see.

@Big Mike
NFL needs to have a better overtime plan. Too much rides on coin toss but great game.

I'm a Rams fan but I feel bad for Bills. Would not have minded them winning a superbowl finally. Interesting Romo take: Bills should not have kicked through endzone after taking lead; a return would have taken precious seconds off clock.

Bills defense on field almost 36 minutes. Tired out.

farmgirl said...

Clyde- your avatar and question go well together.

Idk why Afterlife was watchable for me- i think it was the depth of honesty he goes to. The range of emotion on his face- and I love listening to him. His voice. And the diversity- it’s like that animated movie w/the emotions! I got the ending- after thinking about it during chores tonight. I can see how it’s a multiple choice.

Queen’s Gambit is quite good. The looks of that actress fascinated me. She’s truly lovely.

Inside Out- a Pixar movie. Anger, Sadness, Joy & Fear

Whoever you are, you have as many World Series rings as Ted Williams, or more World Series rings than Ted Williams. There is no third option - this is not a universe in which Ted Williams has more World Series rings than any of you, or any of your grandparents, or even any of your grandkids. Ditto for Barkley and Romo.
Time management is key.

stephen cooper said...

The Chiefs might have won tonight, but their defense played historically bad tonight against the passing game. Tony Romo thought it was a historic "shoot-out" but ... but he used to get paid to play quarterback. So of course he would say that.

Giving up against the passing game on the part of both defenses is bad for both teams, even the team that wins is going to the next round with a defense that basically gave up against the passing game. Not a good sign for Chiefs fans.

Tens of thousands demonstrating against lockdowns and vaccine bullshit in Europe today:----and not a goddamn word of it in the US media, including Fox News, NewsMax, Drudge.

https://www.euronews.com/2022/01/22/covid-19-vaccine-passport-protests-in-europe-draw-thousands-of-people

Demonstrations took place in Athens, Helsinki, London, Paris and Stockholm.

Even more in Brussels::

OUr news media have seemingly embargoed such news for some months. There's
s not a goddamn word of it in the US media, including Fox News, NewsMax, and Drudge.

Nor will you hear much about the UK dropping its covid policies.

We would be CRAZY to give a PENNY to the US media, even the supposedly "solid" sources who bill themselves as fair and balanced.

Mahomes had 13 seconds, three timeouts in his pocket, Kelce, Hill and Butker to do the kicking. So what if he lost three seconds - he would have just run one less play to advance less yardage than the 45 he actually got. One tick of the clock is all the time need to snap the ball for the FG.

Next week we can feel sorry for the Who Deys.

Us too, didn't think much of it.

A much funnier and more entertaining series is Diane Morgan's ("Kath" in After Life) "Philomena Cunk" ("On Britain", etc); unfortunately her speech is often difficult to understand

If you logically complete his philosophy it's not a choice because you don't have free will.

As a lifelong Bills fan, yes, I followed other teams because I have lived in other cities, and when the Bills suck, you never see them on national TV, but as a lifelong Bills fan in my heart, that loss was devastating. I agree that the defense was exhausted, but the coin flip decided the game.

As for the KC's non existent pass defense, now do the Patriots who gave up five touchdowns to Josh Allan last week. At some point you have to give credit to the offense.

Well, I felt like boycotting the site for a month or forever, or maybe posting after every cancel culture story, "They probably said tattoos were for idiots, so they deserved it."

But then I noticed that culture critic Luc Sante is now Lucy Sante and my resolution crumbled.

Last year or so it was poet-critic Stephen/Stephanie Burt, and a few years back it was Donald/Deirdre McCloskey.

Is every old guy becoming a woman now? Should I be considering this? What are the pros and cons of such a move?

I didn't see the fourth quarter antics, but I'm going to guess that the teams went to the usual prevent defense -- which is a disaster every time it is deployed.

Gee, maybe Tyrann Mathieu being knocked out of the game on the first drive had a little bit to do with that. Nah, couldn't be.
