The pilot for I Dream of Jeannie is on now.

Very cute. Question: Did they have green screen technology back then? Because they just had a scene where Tony is elevated that looks like green screen.

Lame opening theme song, though, that first season.

I just watched the trailer for . I'd forgotten a lot of the set up for IDJ. They used film back them and invisible wires. It wasn't until the early 70s that they started using video tape. The difference was quite stark. Video tape back then was fuzzy with muted colors.

That was funny.

So Jeannie conjured up a pool, with Tony up to his neck in the water. Annoyed, Tony told her to get rid of it.

So she did, with Tony's head now sticking out of the deck of cement.

I see Jeannie has fabric on underneath her top. She's bare-skinned in later seasons.

I think I read that Barbara Eden was pregnant the first season, so that also explains the other loose fabric draping over her stomach (which looks a little pudgy -- baby bump -- underneath).

Checking out the Daily Mail, which covers NYC news so the NYT doesn't have to. In an article about the skel who pushed a woman in front of a subway train; "Martial is reportedly homeless and has been diagnosed with schizophrenia. His sister, Josette Simon, from Georgia, argued that her brother belonged in a mental health facility and should have been kept off the streets." Below that is a picture of NYC's new DA, Alvin Bragg, who, as it happens, also belongs in a mental facility, and should also be kept off the streets.

I noticed that little comment on the photo:

Well, if that dog has the genes, he doesn't feel the cold. His coat will protect him. We used to have a black lab that would plop down on any remaining snow banks once spring rolled around. He hated summer.

Even my elderly horse that just passed away - she would stand out in winter (out of the wind) and get covered in snow. Her coat would fluff up and hold the heat in. Please note: she had free access to the inside of the barn.

In other related news/gossip. Nina Totenberg says Justice Gorsuch was mandated by principal Roberts to wear a mask for Sonia and he did not. So, Sonia had to stay away in her chambers and heard oral arguments via zoom. Now Gorsuch is in big trouble with principal Roberts and may have to stay after school.

My Gracie (collie) likes to be outside and lays in the snow when she gets the chance. There's a dog door so she can be inside if she chooses. I belong to a collie group on FB (yeah, I know, but I like to talk with other people about the dogs and the moderators are beyond ruthless when it comes to eliminating OT- read "not about collies"- posts) and virtually everybody there comments about how their dogs love the snow and how hard it is to get them to come inside.

That's EASY. Well, i'm not so good with odds, so i'll give to you in percentage points
Zero Point Zero Zero Percent chance

A majority does NOTHING if you don't have the Presidency
If the President vetos, you need TWO THIRDS (67 Senators) AND TWO THIRDS of the House to override
If you've got enough to override a veto... You're WAY past 60 votes

gilbar said...

Bender beat me, because i had to double check the 2/3rds of BOTH houses clause

The New York Post reports that Joe Biden spent one quarter of his time in Delaware since taking office. What they did note was that Trump made 500 visits to his properties covering 394 days of his first 41 months in office - that's about one-third of his time.

Worse, he charged the government rent, golf cart fees and the works for putting up his own security and staff and VIPs accompanying his travels while sending a message around the world that Trump businesses are centers of power and influence. These VIP visits also brought a ton of publicity to his businesses, not to mention hundreds of thousands of dollars in taxpayer money into his pocket.

Sorry, gadfly, since Mar-a-Lago is a commercial enterprise, it had to charge its going rate to the Secret Service. To not charge them, would be to illegal. The Secret Service was buying the hospitality services of Mar-a-Lago to protect the President. It would have been the same if they stayed at a Marriot or an Hilton. It's different than staying at the Reagan Ranch, which is not in the hospitality business.

I worked for Boeing Defense & Space, and we often had to buy services from Boeing Commercial Airplanes that the government would have payed for under our contract to the government. The price the BCA charged us had to be within certain limits of what I thought the price should be. If too high, then BCA was gouging us. If too low, then BCA didn't understand the service we were requesting and would not be able to fulfill the service because they would've run out of money before completing the service.

If you haven't heard, let me be the first to tell you that Trump isn't actually the President of the United States at this time. So the ongoing COVID crisis, inflation, border disaster, gas prices, supply chain crisis, and the Afghanistan cluster frack all belong to the current occupant of that office, Joe "let's go Brandon" Biden. Whatever time he is or isn't spending in Delaware is the least of his problems.

She was Harem Girl Barbie. That was the look back then. As to why she was so compliant (actually in many episodes she was quite willful) my guess is the submissive nature goes with the magic powers.

An interesting question might be, who had the better deal, Jeanie or Samantha Stevens. On the one hand, you had Samantha who had to suppress her magic nature at the request of her mortal husband. Jeanie on the other hand, could use as much magic as she wanted, as long as she didn't get caught.

"According to 3 U.S. Code § 102, the president of the United States makes $400,000 per year. The president also receives a $50,000 expense allowance, a $100,000 non-taxable travel account and $19,000 for entertainment each year. (Per the code, any unused amount from the $50,000 expense allowance must also be returned to the treasury.) In total, this equals to $569,000 for all of the president’s expenses each year."

now we know. Enjoy your tax payments, everyone!

Worse, even after being told this, gadfly will still not know this.

Trump tried to provide all accommodations and food to staff for free and was informed by White House counsel that would violate the law, thus Mar a Lago had to charge the going rate.

Further, whenever Trump was at Mar a Lago a significant block of rooms were forced to remain unoccupied for security purposes, so still losing money on each visit.

Oh boy, not this again. The quorum rules, explicitly in the Constitution, make real filibusters much harder on the opposition. This would require the Democrats to keep every one of their members present 100% of the time, or on immediate recall to the floor to defeat any motion to adjourn, while the Republicans only need to keep one member on the floor, the one speaking.

Heard some thundering boom, well, a couple of them, last night around the time of the SpaceX launch, we are a ways from the cape. I wonder if it was the re-entry? IDK, it was unlike any sound I have ever heard, except maybe the constant thunder from a tropical wave, but the skies were clear. I looked north towards the launch site, but I guess by the time we would have heard any noise, which I have never heard from a launch anyway, the visual aspect would have been long over.
