The immortal Feinstein.

I'm reading "California Recall: Unpredictable Election Has Democrats Concerned About Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s Seat" (CBS, San Francisco):
It’s the Democrats’ doomsday scenario: California Gov. Gavin Newsom loses his recall race this fall, and a Senate vacancy is later filled by a GOP governor. And the 50-50 Senate, currently controlled by Democrats, is run again by Senate GOP Leader Mitch McConnell.

Nobody wants to talk about it openly, but Dianne Feinstein is 88 years old.

In an interview with CNN, Feinstein made clear the recall election won’t affect her plans to serve out her full six years — no matter the outcome of the race. “Why would I?” Feinstein said when asked if she would consider resigning in the period between a Newsom loss and before a GOP governor could be sworn in. Feinstein added: “It doesn’t affect me — the recall is just against him.” Asked if she had even considered stepping aside as the recall campaign has gotten underway, Feinstein said: “No.”

That's Ruth Bader Ginsburg style grit.

Now, maybe she'll cave to pressure if Newsom actually loses. There could be a 38-day period before the new GOP governor takes office.

Whether you're a brother or whether you're a mother
You're stayin' alive, stayin' alive
Feel the city breakin' and everybody shakin'
And we're stayin' alive, stayin' alive
Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin' alive, stayin' alive
Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin' alive

Life goin' nowhere, somebody help me
Somebody help me, yeah
Life goin' nowhere, somebody help me, yeah
I'm stayin' alive

Well...the Chinese are done with Feinstein. They got from her what they needed. The US is done with her. California is done with her. Seriously, this is a woman who is hanging onto life by hanging onto her job. Nothing less. I kinda get it, but in this level of position, it cannot be acceptable- to anyone. Can you imagine having Senators too feeble to think properly, to consider new information and a changing world? We've got a number of them. Pat Leahy, James Inhofe, Chuck Grassley, Richard Shelby, Bernie Sanders, Mitch McConnell, to name a few. Some of them can still make sense. But others? I cringe watching them speak.

Now try that thought game with the position of President and see how it goes.

We are filled with people from past generations who still think they can operate as they have for decades. The only thing missing now is a waitress sandwich featuring Ted Kennedy and Chris Dodd- two more Democratic standouts.

As for the California recall, there are already reports of Democrats blanketing the state with fake election ballots, and they are sending out a slew of bogus articles about Larry Elder. Hell...the LA Times just put out an article calling him the 'Black face of White Supremacy.' Democrats live in the mud. They are bottom feeders. No one likes being led by bottom feeders. With the possible exception of Californians, Oregonians, Washingtonians, and New Yorkers.

If Newsome gets recalled and Feinstein were to resign most likely it would further anger the voters who voted to recall the governor and that could have a negative impact for the Democrats at the state level. That aside, Feinstein is right. Newsome's problems aren't her problems and she probably intends to fill out her term. At her age she has nothing to lose by remaining in the Senate.

SCOTUS Justices should neither be retiring for partisan reasons, nor staying on for partisan reasons after they are no longer able to do the job.

Senators, on the other hand, are politicians, and should, on occasion “take one for the team”. Feinstein, Pelosi, Biden and RBG, showed arrogance, the effects of aging, and narcissistic tendencies in their decisions.

Respectfully, *NO*, that's Ruth Bader Ginsburg style hubris; or, if you prefer senility
Speaking as a retired person, with a mom who is 89 (and dad who is 92)....
88 is TOO OLD to be acively 'working'
I realize, that a Senator is a Completely Cerimonial position, But a person that is 88 years old, is TOO OLD even for a Completely Cerimonial position

Know how you can tell? That they're TOO OLD? They think that they are not Too Old

I always thought Biden would give his senility away completely and irrevocably at some point but I never thought he'd take others down with him. But by him being exposed on an issue, I now think he'll decredibilize everyone in his generation who supported him. He can't work out what to do and neither can they. If they'd had real journalism to contend with they'd have made slight changes all along or gradually faded away as it got too difficult. But they've been allowed to coast. They are not at all ready to explain why General Miley stood the military down and engaged it with CRT discussions in the exact months when it should have been planning the evacuation of Americans and allies from Afghanistan. Living in the past, this group can't explain why US intelligence was sure there was a Capitol "insurrection" and completely sure there would not be a Taliban insurrection. They can't explain what's happening or what's coming next. They're hoping to shower cash all over America with their "infrastructure" bills and make us forget what we've seen. It's worked before. Ted Kennedy/ Mary Jo Kopechne. But the check engine light is on as it has been for some time and all along it meant something real.

Of course they'll be replaced by horrible leftys whose beard they are right now.

I wonder if the Chinese Spy who worked in her office for 20 years moved into her home?? Where is the outrage?? China infiltrated the Democrat party, and they are running it as we speak.

Feinstein isn't a complete buffoon, nor anyone's toady. For her to do what the article is suggesting would not make her look good in any way. It would detract from her image and legacy. I can't imagine she'd choose to go out that way. And since she has already said no, it's especially difficult to imagine that she would do it.

Also, the example of RBG doesn't really argue in favor of Di-Fi's resigning. Yes, RBG (for reasons that were both personal and principled), refused to do step down, and that refusal handed Trump the seat. But did RBG ever feel compelled to apologize for not resigning? And when she died, did she not receive an outpouring of respect from the left (and many on the right)? If Di-Fi refers to the example of RBG, she should actually be emboldened NOT to resign.

(BTW, this Afghanistan thing cannot exactly be helping Newsom. I expect him to lose.)

Both the GOP and the Dems rely on politicians who are well past their prime.

It says something bad about their "bench strength".

If democrats lose any election in any state they lose control.

Then all the winner has to do is implement any kind of election security and democrats are finished forever in that state.

The only thing democrats have is voter fraud. They would lose every state without it.

Nobody wants what they are pushing.

And nobody, especially 'investigative reporters' want to talk about her net worth of $90M, and I'm guessing that's on the low side. A real public servant and woman of the people.

The Chinese have been very, very good to her and her husband...

The Democrat Base is made up of Sheep. They don't pressure their leaders to do anything. So, DiFi can have a Chinese Spy in her office for 5 years and its no big whoop. She can be corrupt and skim off Millions. Ho hum say her voters. If she dies, and the D's lose a seat, I doubt the average Feinstein Democrat will care. Your typical Calf. D voter is an immigrant, or a minority, or poor, or votes based on their feminist/Gay identity. They literally DO NOT CARE about policy or good government.

That's why the D's are always trying to make it easier and easier to vote. Because they have millions of voters, who'll check a box and drop something in the mail, but don't care enough to go to the Polls on Election day.

How about we just put a cap on any public employee at any level at 80 years old.

If you can't make your millions before then, you're too dumb to hold office.

That assumes that, like Biden, she still has the ability to perceive pressure, let alone want to respond to it.

I would ask, are the people who would push someone into retirement, for the good of the party, the kind of people who would steal an election? A one-off, he's got to go, the might attempt to justify themselves. (Cut to Pelosi ripping the State of Union show speech.)

How about Nancy Pelosi? She's an OLD 80 years old. She looks like she has been ridden hard and put away wet. That is probably a more frightening scenario if she keels over and would be replaced by an independent or republican.

I had voted for the recall and checked Larry Elder as a replacement. I doubt Newsom will be recalled but it is delightful to see him unglued and lose it. He's a political lightweight who should really retire if he survives the recall.

The state has really gone to shit on his watch and it will take someone with guts to turn things around. He ain't that guy.

Feinstein is a walking national security risk. She hires Chinese spies as aides and keeps them gainfully employed for 20 years.

Feinstein, Pelosi, Biden...these aged grifters are perfect representatives of the USA in its decline. Hopefully that generation of political schemers will die off soon and the states can return to something approaching federalism once more. The red and blue tribes can find their own places geographically within North America. And live in peace, having minimal interactions.

Feinstein will not step down. You can call it "grit" if you like (I prefer to call it hubris) but she's leaving that office feet first. You can attempt to start a "she's too old" whisper campaign. Hell, it could be an out loud campaign. But she will not step down. You will either have to wait for her body to give out or you'll actually have to defeat her in an election.

If Newsom loses the recall, between election night and certification (which could be a while), the Dem supermajority in Sacramento will pass a veto-proof law that any person a governor appoints to fill a senate vacancy must be from the same party as the vacating Senator. A number of states, such as NC, have such laws. If Dems allow Feinstein to be replaced by a GOP placeholder, they truly are the incompetent party.
