"Mayor Bowser’s graffiti is made permanent with our tax dollars, while Black children die from increasing Black violence in DC ever more frequently."

"Most recently, a six-year-old girl yesterday. Priorities reassessment needed, Mayor Bowser. Black lives mattering shouldn’t be about memorializing your political stunts."

That's the top-rated comment on a WaPo article that begins: "Construction to make Black Lives Matter Plaza a permanent art installation will begin Monday, with 16th Street NW between H and K streets closing to vehicle traffic. The mural spelling 'Black Lives Matter' down 16th Street will be on brick pavers, and there will be a dedicated pedestrian plaza throughout the center of the street. There will also be landscaping and lighting...."

Another highly rated comment:

I guess it is easier for Bowser to waste time and money on this BLM vandalism project then it is for her to actually try and solve some of the city's problems. She probably thinks she is doing some thing productive when in fact this project is nothing but a boondoggle. Shouldn't the road crews be out fixing pot hole instead of wasting time on this? Bowser has to understand that not everyone in DC is black and not everyone DC in supports the BLM Marxists. Hopefully some future mayor will rip the whole thing out.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran paints the American flag on streets so good Muslims will rub their filthy shoe leather on this symbol of oppression. (Iranians do not wear shoes at home, largely because until recent times millions of Iranians—and perhaps millions today—lived around animals and did not want to track their droppings inside.) Anti-regime protestors show contempt for the mullahs by refusing to walk on these painted flags.

"Meanwhile, in America, respect is shown to BLM by permitting pedestrians to put their Nikes and Louboutins on those letters.

"What if anti-BLM people loudly declare they are showing disrespect by walking on the letters and do so en masse?

"Just asking."

"Imagine putting up a statue of Lenin in the middle of a street in the Capital of the United States, and offering up an entire plaza in the name of what Lenin stood for. Mayor Bowser has just done exactly that by putting up a plaza to recognize an organization that thinks Cuba under Castro was a great thing for all.

"How that is going to help poor Black Americans in DC just trying to make it through a day without losing one of their kids is anyone's guess. I'll know people are taking Black lives seriously when Black people quit voting in Democrats who tell them the 'others' are going to enslave them. They have been enslaved by their own, wearing a Democrat uniform for decades. And they are constantly encouraged to vote that way by white Liberals who claim- despite the obvious evidence of one's senses- that this is for their own good and that the 'others' will enslave them.

"Nothing will change if you keep doing the same thing. Now you have a painted street. Congratulations! A former BLM leader has 4 new multi-million dollar homes and is sitting along a private beach in the Caribbean at this moment. How's your day going?"

"This is exactly the SOP of the midwit managerial class we have running the country these days. Rather than make tough decisions and address complex issues, they overemphasize trivial issues in order to make simplistic solutions seem important, obsess over the "process", engage in stupid petty power struggles, and make useless symbolic gestures. "I have no objection when people put up a BLM sign to affirm the dignity of black people, especially in a culture that has demeaned them. I see the slogan as similar to the “I Am a Man” signs black men carried in 1960s demonstrations, documented in the photos of Ernest Withers. I do have a problem when allegiance to the BLM movement is mandatory, and failure to do so is racist.

"If I lived in DC, I wouldn’t oppose a permanent BLM plaza, what with all the other monuments already in the city. It must be an important symbol to a lot of residents there. I’m guessing they’d also want less crime and better sidewalks."
