I'm not sure it's a loon, so tell me what it is if not a loon. In this 33 second clip, you hear the bird reacting to the very instant of sunrise and see the sun pop into view.

Video made at 6:39 this morning on Lake Mendota.

After the last two posts, it's refreshing to see a loon in actual bird form.

Sounds like a loon. So does Achilles though.

I'm by no means an expert but it sounds like a Common Loon to me. You can listen to the call at the Cornell Ornithology website and see what you think.

It doesn't sound mournful enough to be adult loons. A closer shot of the bird would help identify. Maybe it's a juvenile loon. They sound like this- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2f3Xrqx6xKw

If it’s a Madison resident, highly likely it’s a loon. :)

Loon, huh? Althouse is very thematic with her posts this morning.

If it’s Wisconsin, it’s a loon.

For some reason closed captions is playing Oldies but Goodies lyrics over the streaming Bloomberg site that comes with TV Plus. So while they're talking about inflation or something you see the words to Teen Angel.

I miss cable TV already.

It's kind of funny to hear loon calls in movies in the background in desert settings or whatever, places where you would never see a loon, but their calls are just too perfect, I guess. The other birds need to up their game.

Loon breeding call. Looking for a mate.

Yup. Loon. Maybe one we saw around here all Winter gone to the summer place.

The BirdNet app says it's a common loon.

Yup, loon.

Loons are night feeders and pairs call to each other throughout the hours of darkness, much like owls do. I don't think the loon was reacting to the sunrise directly, it was saying basically Honey, it's bedtime. Where are you?

When I first got here, the video was of Tucker Carlson and Matt Gaetz.

I figured that the interview must have been even weirder than I though.

Now there is a lake video.

I suppose it's easier to find the loon there than in the clip from Tucker's show.

I dunno if the bird you ask about is a loon, but the guy in the pic you posted one minute later is DEFINITELY loony.
