Writes Glenn Greenwald in "The Lincoln Project, Facing Multiple Scandals, is Accused by its Own Co-Founder of Likely Criminality/Liberals heralded this group of life-long scammers, sleaze merchants and con artists as noble men of conscience, enabling them to fleece and deceive the public" (Substack).
February 13, 2021
"Heading into the 2020 election, most of the U.S. media was uninterested in, if not outright hostile to, any reporting that might have helped President Trump’s re-election bid."
"As a result, the Lincoln Project continued to enjoy media veneration even as the magnitude of its scam became increasingly obvious. But with Trump now safely vanquished, the Lincoln Project is dispensable, and the protective shield it enjoyed against any real journalistic scrutiny is — like its reputation and prospects for future profiteering — rapidly crumbling.... From the start, it was obvious that this disgraceful collapse was the inevitable end for this group. The very idea that this freakish hodgepodge of life-long D.C. Republican consultants were men of profound conscience defending the Republic was a complete and total joke. They are life-long grifters, responsible for some of the most grotesque and amoral attack ads in the modern era, with a very long and recent history of advocating the exact opposite values of what they claimed to represent once they opportunistically identified the optimal Trump-era profit model: namely, relentlessly fleece scared and gullible #Resistance liberals of their cash by posturing as brave and principled warriors against Trumpism.
But their lucrative scheme could never have succeeded without the knowingly fraudulent cooperation of liberal networks such as MSNBC and CNN. Over and over, those Democratic Party spokespeople masquerading as TV journalists — knowing exactly who these bottom-feeding GOP operatives have always been — encouraged their misguided and trusting viewers to regard the Lincoln Project as a selfless and noble bulwark against Trumpism rather than the scamming, grifting, lowlife con it so obviously was from the start."

Love the picture that's included in that article!
Omega males of America unite!
The country will never again have a news source trusted by 70% of the population. That is unfortunate. It weakens us.
It's the pretty standard media approach. Remember how McCain, Romney, and Trump were all propped up during the primaries, and primed for a perfect stab in the back? The Lincoln Project should not have expected the scorpion to change its habits.
Life long republicans......too funny.
Every time I see that stock media photo of the four bald-headed Lincoln Project ‘managers’, I wonder which one of them is our own commentariat LLR Lincoln project lover (whose name shall not be repeated here).
I like how he worked “bulwark” in.

*******
Spot on.
When the Lincoln Project appeared on the scene, a former co-worker (smart guy, aerospace engineer, self-identified Republican) asked me about them. I told him exactly what Glenn Greenwald said - it was group of grifter consultants that found themselves on the "outs" once Trump was elected. No more ability to get someone a job; no more big money coming their way; they couldn't even count on Congress critters and PACS to funnel money their way since they had been so vocal in their hatred of Trump.
My friend listened, but he was absolutely smitten with their marketing prose and so he "joined" and sent in money.
Haven't asked him how he feels about LP lately.

Well written, and to the point. I like it!

What IS unfortunate, and DOES weaken us, is that the Left are uniformly lying sacks of shit, utterly amoral creatures who have nothing but a lust for power and self agrandization
As such, no institution that they dominate will ever be trusted, because by their nature they can not be trusted.
This will continue until the Left is destroyed.
"the scamming, grifting, lowlife con"
Sure, the Lincoln brigade was especially egregious, but this applies to all the Dem party spokespeople, no?
And the Biden family. And Ilhan Omar. And --
Anyone on the left who is not included? At one point, I thought Bernie -- obviously, I wasn't cynical enough.
Was John McCain a great judge of character or what? /sarc
Couldn't happen to a more deserving bunch -- the Lincoln Projectors. Now if they'd just get their filthy hands off of Abe.
Wan't our own Chuck a big Lincoln Projector/supporter/donor? Where is he now, trying to get out of his NDA?

Maybe Althouse will post a poll......
They were useful idiots for the last four years.
With Trump out of office, they're no longer useful.
Lincoln Project donor here, Glenn.
I've been delighted with the work of the Lincoln Project. The product was great. The result was good, at least. And of course the essential goal was defeating Trump and it was accomplished.
And Glenn; you seem to be complaining about how the Lincoln Project operated. I didn't see you point to any specific falsehoods in the messaging about Trump.
What the Lincoln Project was attempting to prove in greater detail what you, Glenn Greenwald said: "I think the Trump White House lies more often. I think it lies more readily. I think it lies more blatantly."
https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2017/08/glenn-greenwald-on-media-hypocrisy-over-trump-and-the-new-cold-war.html
Now, an outside law firm tasked with a thorough and independent investigation of the John Weaver ugliness and the Jennifer Horn departure will do its work. The sort of transparency that has never ever existed in the Trump Organization, Trump University, the Trump Administration or anything else "Trump."
But I am grateful to TrumpWorld for one truism: the Lincoln Project has distinguished itself in making some of the best enemies anyone could ever hope for.
“Sure, the Lincoln brigade was especially egregious, but this applies to all the Dem party spokespeople, no?”
Hey, I thought Bernie Sanders fought with the Lincoln Brigade in Spain for the communists in 1936, how can that be bad!
And you can throw George Conway in with the Lincoln Project jerks too, as far as I am concerned.
The democrats were worse. It's just a new protective target.
I don't know how gullible the liberals were who donated to TLP. I think the idea of more or less prominent Republicans who were against the Republican President and willing to work openly against him was irresistible for those on the other side and whether or not the TLP was made up sincere or credible individuals was beside the point.
I think the gullible were probably the people who actually went to work for TLP, who rather foolishly hired liberals without, apparently, understanding the workplace expectations those interns and employees would bring, thinking they were working for a liberal organization.
Wait. Is this really the defense we're going for: "Sure, we were a bunch of lying assholes who also turned a blind eye to potential sexual abuse of minors, but hey, we got Trump. So, you know, all's forgiven. We made the best enemies: Young boys who we made to feel uncomfortable, targeted sexually, and ignored when they were in danger."
@Kathryn51 (12:37)
Haven't asked him how he feels about LP lately.
You really should ask him :)
"I don't know how gullible the liberals were who donated to TLP."
-- Most of the liberals I know in person had no idea who they were; the political ones online basically just looked at them as useful idiots who could be used against their enemies.
"the Lincoln Project has distinguished itself in making some of the best enemies anyone could ever hope for."
Are the sexually-preyed-upon young men considered enemies now, or are they simply collateral damage?
I am Laslo.
#Pudding pudge - white left. Do they have secret antifa outfits too?
... It's weird when I'm on the same page as Laslo, since usually while I might agree, we're never THAT closely on the same page.
Note the following:
John Weaver - One of McCain's closest advisors
Steve Schmidt - McCain's 2008 senior campaign aide and strategist
Rick Wilson - McCain media Consultant. Cheney appointee to DoD
Reed Galen - Worked on George W. Bush's campaigns 2000 and 2004
"the Lincoln Project has distinguished itself in making some of the best enemies anyone could ever hope for.”
90% of the Republican Party.
Sarah Palin was Trump before Trump. Steve Schmidt, ostensibly trying to get McCain elected, denigrated her publicly and did his best to ruin her prospects. This kind of disloyal assholery was the hallmark of the Lincoln Project from the beginning. The one ray of sunshine is that he failed to get McCain elected. McCain would have been every bit as much of a statist as Obama, and a blot on the Republican Party for decades.
"The Lincoln Project made the best enemies."
The Lincoln Project's enemies: Uh... basically everyone at this point.
Lincoln Project: if it takes but one unwanted ass-fuck it will all have been worth it.
I am Laslo.
Nicole Wallace of course was Bush Communications Director before she became the Communications Director of McCain's 2008 campaign. Now, she's MSNBC Liberal Democrat. Funny Dat.
Someone we know is a "proud member"
LOL.
As Lincoln himself never said: The squeaky wheel wouldn't have been so squeaky if you had just put some lube on it.
I am Laslo.
McCain must have known that Weaver had "a thing" for young boys. Rove Knew. Lots of people knew. They just didn't care.
Abraham Lincoln(R)helped end slavery.
White left pudge Lincoln Project buggered the 14 year olds.... and gave the corrupt leftwing press an orgasm.
Nah, Chuck liked his ass fucked.
From the article, here's the main area in which the Lincoln Project 'distinguished themselves':
"A study conducted after the 2020 election found that the group’s effect on the election’s outcome was trivial to non-existent... " (my emphasis)
An effort to be really proud of!

First of all; fuck you for that bad faith comment.
Second; the Lincoln Project has issued its own public statement, condemning Weaver, and extending sympathies to any young men contacted inappropriately by Weaver. (Remember there is no allegation of any under age sex, no non-consensual adult sex, and there was no criminal investigation as of two days ago and there still might be no criminal investigation although press reports indicate that there may be a newly instituted FBI investigation, of an unknown nature, of Weaver. Nothing about the Lincoln Project.)
And, the Lincoln Project has publicly released any and every person with information about Weaver from any NDA's.
Finally; note what the Lincoln Project HAS NOT DONE. It didn't call the victims liars, and defame them. Like, uh, somebody else with more sexual impropriety allegations against him than John Weaver does.

Go suck some more Bulwark cock, Chuck.
I wonder how many Romney 2012 aides will turn out be "dubious characters" or liberal Democrats in disguise. Of course Mittens is such a sexless Ken Doll maybe his campaign aides followed his example.
Thanks Laslo for adding some humor.
Greenwald's error is thinking journalists and political consultants are capable of shame.

chickelit: "Wan't our own Chuck a big Lincoln Projector/supporter/donor?"
Indeed.
Which goes a long way to explaining the racist and violent (against women and children) serual posts vomited up by iur fakecon LLR-lefty Chuck over the years.
Even more telling is that LKR-lefty (and huge Whitmer fanboy) Chuck declared he was a deep party insider who was on the up and up on all the behind the scenes details of the fakecon establishment republican consultant world....which includes knowing John Weaver was a Man-Boy Cultist sinceat least the 90's.
And even with knowing all that, LLR-lefty Chuck has yet to offer a single word of criticism about the Boy-Diddling manuevers the Lincoln Project Criminal Grifters.
There's a reason for that: our pro-marxist and Warnock-endorsing Chuck does not disapprove of those activities.
At all.
Chuck, as a leftist, is captured perfectly by Greenwald in his article.
The only thing that could make LLR-lefty Chuck love the Man-Boy Cultists more would be if they went Full Blumenthal Stolen Valor Liar Mode and lied about military service. LLR-lefty Chuck adored that move by Blumenthal and to this day passionately defends his Stolen Valor lies.
How many Lincolns could a Lincoln Project project if a Lincoln Project could project Lincolns?
There will be a test at the end.
Chuck wrote: Finally; note what the Lincoln Project HAS NOT DONE. It didn't call the victims liars, and defame them. Like, uh, somebody else with more sexual impropriety allegations against him than John Weaver does.
Stop bringing up Hillary, Chuck. All of the butthurt ladies who are out to protect her and to destroy Trump are really hurting the butthurt laddies.

No, but an anonymous source within the Lincoln Project said they saw Chuck and Weaver in the same room.
I can't think of much else to say about the Lincoln Project; certainly not to the Althouse blog readership.
So I'm done here today. No "clutter" from me. One comment; one reply comment and then this "bye for now." That's all from me. I expect to later see this page filled with even more unusually vintage bile and garbage from TrumpWorld. Please don't disappoint me.
Man-Boy Cultist LLR-lefty Chuck: "Second; the Lincoln Project has issued its own public statement, condemning Weaver, and extending sympathies to any young men contacted inappropriately by Weaver."
The Lincoln Man-Boy Cult Project is "officially" very sorry for the damage they helped cause! by knowingly and gleefully covering for child predators for years!
Voila!
Man-Boy Cultist LLR-lefty Chuck advances what he believes is the most "effective" defense for the child diddlers and grifter con artists!
LOLOLOLOLOLOL
Powerful. Compelling. Persuasive!
Its clear now why LLR-lefty Chuck claims to be a $2,000/HR legal beagle with a Minimum $40,000 retainer requirement just to speak with him!
And if you want to sit thru a 36 hour presentation by LLR-lefty Chuck on his agonizing 47 second thought process which led to him not joining the military when he was young, do the math. That will run you a cool $112,000.
"The country will never again have a news source trusted by 70% of the population. That is unfortunate. It weakens us."

Banned Commenter, who was banned, "graciously" decides to Exit-Stage Left (naturally) after being called out for his long knowing support of child diddling con men grifters.
"Courage", thy name is pro-marxist democraticals Chuck.

Except that they are the exact same people who did their best to destroy Sarah Palin at a time when their job was to get her and her POS running mate elected. They have always been in bed with the left, not merely after they have lost.
"First of all; fuck you for that bad faith comment.”
Try as I might, I can’t see how the comment was in bad faith. Maybe Chuck hasn’t been following the rest of the news coming out.
LLR-lefty Chuck: "Please don't disappoint me."
The only way we could disappoint you and your child diddling heroes is if we failed to provide you and Team Man Boy Cultists the requisite number of underage male "leads" who are seeking to be "mentored" by you and your Lincoln Grifter Club greasy sleazeweasels.
Anyone else notice how irritated LLR-lefty Chuck gets when he hasn't "mentored" any young men in awhile?
They will come back as the FDR Foundation.
Because FDR is an icon to be appropriated, and because small boys with polio can't get away fast enough.
I am Laslo.
“They have always been in bed with the left, not merely after they have lost.”
Dick Cheney, John McCain, George W. Bush, what a rogues gallery of asshats who made the world a worse place. And of course Biden rolls more troops into Syria to “guard” the oil wells and keep them out of the hands of Syria’s sovereign and internationally recognized ruler Because Biden wants to make him the next Saddam.
I would always wonder when I saw Steve Schmidt on tv how he got on tv. His appearance and mannerisms were off putting, and he never said anything incisive or interesting. How does someone like that get on television?....I have the same reaction to Paul Krugman, but, at least, he won a Nobel.....I know he hasn't been implicated in the sex part of the scandal, but you can't help but wonder to what pastures his libido leads him. He doesn't look like he would exult in the honest, exuberant lust of a Harvey Weinstein or Jeffrey Toobin.
I would hardly put Dick Cheney, John McCain, and George W. Bush all on the same team. Capt. Queeg hated Bush with a passion that approached anti-Trumpian levels. And during the Bush Administration, McCain did he best to sabotage every positive thing Bush might have tried to do.
Scott Adams’ YouTube podcast is a must today.
Greenwald is a liberal worthy of respect.
Why?
He is honest.
Chuck and his Lincoln project are hacks, grifters, Trump-hate cultists who take advantage of people and, at worst - are fine and dandy covering for the sexual exploitation of minors by anyone on team-D.
"The very idea that this freakish hodgepodge of life-long D.C. Republican consultants were men of profound conscience defending the Republic was a complete and total joke. worth a repeat.
So as an LLR, you're OK with the Biden presidency, and the likely results?
Trump-hate is a disease that eats away at the moral fabric of the mind and the soul. The toxicity gives those infected the ability to admire and excuse the corrupt Biden family gifters - and show blind allegiance to the Potemkin President.

Chuck appears to be especially fond of the part dealing with sexual abuse of young boys.
I always felt it was something like that with him. He is not just a cheesy grifter. He is a predator.
Second; the Lincoln Project has issued its own public statement

Its that kind of coverup that makes a "Q-Anon" seem credible.
McCain must have known that Weaver had "a thing" for young boys. Rove Knew. Lots of people knew. They just didn't care.
This is way off topic. But it's something that's been bugging me.
Yes, person in positions of power knew about this sleaze ball, they did nothing.
Now do Hollywood. Meryl Streep, Oprah, Tandy. All women of immense power in Hollywood. They just let the creeps grind up all the young girls. Just let the wolf roam free. Why? What was in it for Oprah?
The one ray of sunshine is that he failed to get McCain elected. McCain would have been every bit as much of a statist as Obama, and a blot on the Republican Party for decades.
I agree, as much as it pains me to admit it. McCain is the only person I voted for in a presidential election for whom in retrospect I regret casting my vote. Not because he would have been worse than Obama, but because he wouldn't have been any better.

It's not just girls. Attractive young people of both sexes are passed around like party favors by powerful studio people.
This thread is generally boring. One thing that interests me reading some of this.
A theory I am developing that McCain knew he was going to lose in 2008.
Knowing this did McCain work with his local advisors from the local DC NAMBLA branch to pick a popular female conservative, Palin, that could have developed into a leader of the populist wing of the republican party and knowingly sabotage and destroy her career?
I see more evidence to support this theory than I see to disprove it.

Yeah, other than Cheney and Bush WERE on the same team. And both showed up at McCain's funeral and praised him to the skies. And both were liberal Republicans and hated Trump. And were both Globalists and and in favor of open borders and had liberal/moderate Aides who are all never-trumpers.
Yeah, other than that they "weren't on the same team" whatever the fuck that means.
Oh and that the McCain family and Lynn Cheney all love each other. but yeah, they aren't on the same "team" whatever the fuck that means.
whatever the fuck that means
It means what I said it means in the example I gave.
There's a special kind of bullshit that is commenters who don't just leave but announce that they are leaving. Doesn't happen as much in the old days, when we would joke about somebody "flouncing off," but it's still kind of funny. A retro move — a whiff of the golden age of blogging.

Is there any evidence that our political class ever punishes people like this? How many examples of rapists do you need before you realize they are all like this? These people are all moral deviants. Every couple months we find out more people in DC or Hollywood or some other cultural elite were rapists or knew and covered for rapists for years.
Joe Biden is a rapist. He was credibly accused. He has essentially admitted as much by his actions. If you question his legitimacy you are attacked by the entire establishment. He has about 60 million people that voted for him. Everyone knows her name. She was fired and run out of town.
Your statement in face of reality is completely illogical.

Bush was a globalist to the core.
Bush was a huge mistake. He took the country backwards. Stop trying to justify support for him. We should all regret voting for him.
The Lincoln Project saga is distilled essence of why the GOP base voted for Trump: they recognized that the party had been taken over by those corrupt parasites like Schmidt, Wilson, and Weaver. These scumbags did car about winning, just getting their beaks, or dick, wet. Their mote-conservative-than-thou moralizing was surpassed by their disdain for the base and at the end of the day they just plain weren't any good at their jobs.
"I think the Trump White House lies more often. I think it lies more readily. I think it lies more blatantly."
That's only part of the quote. Here's more:
"Is that unique? It’s unique by a matter of degree and not by kind, and I would say that that’s true for a lot of things. One of the things I object to is when I see things that have been done for many years, or even decades, being treated as though they’re things that Trump pioneered. That’s generally when I start being more overtly concerned about the narrative being misleading."
That gives a somewhat different picture of what Greenwald was saying, and he said it in the summer of 2017 in the early days of the administration, maybe reacting to silly things like the overestimation of the crowd size at the inauguration.
Glenn has had time to learn since then, and I'm not sure he'd stand by the first half of the quote. Notice, too, that he wasn't saying that the Trump administration was particularly good or successful at lying. They weren't professionals, by any means.

Yeah, the kind where she allows you to continue to post after you've been repeatedly asked to leave.
So where does that leave MSNBC's Joe and Nicolle. It sometimes seemed like half their guests were Lincoln Project stooges. Will they cover the story? Will they still have the little bald, bearded trolls on their shows? Will they ask them about Weaver?
And what the heck happened between Joe and Don? They were the best of pals and then they became sworn enemies (same thing with Zucker at CNN). What's up with that? And why two "l"s in Nicolle?
Chuck, since you're still here I'll give you this: You are loyal.
Senior figures are departing the Lincoln Project one after another, and you want to explain that we've got the LP all wrong. It's a pity your efforts are wasted on us.

They get relegated, sent down to the minor leagues, to double A league state and local politics. One of their guys wins and they're back in DC again, though not riding as high as they were in the Trump years.
P.S. I looked up AA league baseball just to make sure I got it right. Those teams have some really weird names: Biscuits, Shuckers, Flying Squirrels, Rubber Ducks, Wind Surge, Blue Wahoos, Trash Pandas.

I didn’t want to post any more comments. But yours was sufficiently personal in a non-insane way that I’ll just say the following in short order.
I’ve never been an employee, partner, director or contractor of the Lincoln Project. I can’t formally resign from something that I have no formal membership in. I said; I am a donor. And a participant in several early teleconference events. I have no personal knowledge of any LP personnel decisions or issues. I will simply await the outside counsel’s investigative reporting.
Now; do what Althouse begged all of you to do and quit commenting about me.

A couple of others seem lonely and deprived of attention in their lives, probably due to a bad divorce in the past coupled with lack of personal accomplishment, and their sneaking back is almost deserving of sympathy or pity from us normal commenters who always lift the conversation to a higher level.
Basically McConnell showed today that the Republican Party represents the same globalist interests as the Democrats. You in flyover country! We are sending your jobs to China and your sons to fight for oil while all the time America has more oil than anybody, over 2 trillion barrels in oil shale alone.
But reavers like McConnell and BIden will do fine taking their cut of America’s decline.
I think it was very sporting of Chuck to show himself the day George Conway tells the Lincoln Project to take down a tweet since it admits to a Federal Crime. Didn’t delete it soon enough though! But I am sure that they have enough residual gratitude from the kelptocrats in the WH that they will not be charged.
Here’s a little summary from Axios
Background: Schmidt's resignation comes amid a wave of damaging stories for the Lincoln Project.
The New York Times reported last month on allegations from 21 men that Weaver sent them unsolicited and sexually charged messages. One was 14 years old at the time, according to the report.
Multiple people have reportedly been contacted by federal law enforcement regarding the alleged conduct. The Lincoln Project said it has hired an external law firm to conduct an investigation into the matter.
The AP reported that the majority of the $90 million that the Lincoln Project has raised was paid to consulting firms tied to the group's founders and senior staff.
On Thursday, the group's official Twitter account tweeted screenshots of messages between a former senior staffer and a reporter writing a story on the group. Lincoln Project co-founder George Conway suggested the disclosures may have been illegal.
LOL, You money was well spent Chuck!
From Amanda Becker's story in the19th, some progressive women's site I suppose:
Another point of internal financial contention was the donor information that Lincoln Project amassed with ads that spread across social media. The specifics over who or which entity would own the data was not negotiated in advance, sources said, and the data’s market value grew as more and more people gave.
A frequent quip from Schmidt overheard by multiple people was that the Lincoln Project was his vehicle to achieve “generational wealth.”
...
As senior management squabbled over how to divide the pieces of the project’s financial pie, dissatisfaction was growing within the organization’s more junior ranks, which were made up of largely young and liberal staffers who said they had different standards than some of the group’s leaders, citing Schmidt and Wilson specifically. There was language used in both the Lincoln Project’s ads and within its workplace about gender and sexuality that made many of them uncomfortable, the dozens of interviews revealed.
Young men were “wizards” while young women were “girls.” Political rivals were “pu*sies” or “c*cksuckers” or “fag*ots.” By the time the staff convened in Park City, the situation had become so “toxic,” according to more than a dozen accounts, that at least two co-founders, neither of whom remain at the project, had tried unsuccessfully to intervene to improve working conditions.
Staff had also complained that some of the project’s ads, specifically some related to Ivanka Trump, were sexist. There was dissatisfaction among the ranks when Ben Howe, billed as the wunderkind behind some of the Lincoln Project’s earliest ads, was brought back by Wilson. Howe had been fired after The 19th reported that in a series of tweets, he had used offensive slang for female anatomy to insult political rivals.
So in addition to being a grift, it was also a boy's club.
And yet, we only find out all this long after the election and the Project is no longer useful to the Democrats.
Mary Beth:
"Seven months after they found out. Months where they kept it hidden and did nothing."
Is that "seven months after they found out" what he had been doing, or is it after they found out they wouldn't be able to keep the wraps on it forever? As others have stated here, some of this has been known since the '90s.
Achilles,
One of the most regrettable things, though, is that the alternative to Bush was Algore.
Now there was a time when the latter--and here I refer specifically to Al "Go Grab His Ass" Gore--might have responded as forcefully in Afghanistan, but by 2000 that guy was pretty much history.

I'm glad there's finally reporting about what a fraud & scam @ProjectLincoln
is.
But they're insulting your intelligence. It was so clear this is what they were. Nobody just realized it. They're willing to say it now only because the election is done.
Scumbags gonna scumbag
"It's the pretty standard media approach. Remember how McCain, Romney, and Trump were all propped up during the primaries, and primed for a perfect stab in the back? The Lincoln Project should not have expected the scorpion to change its habits."
Words that people like Nikki Haley and others should ponder.
"I think the Trump White House lies more often. I think it lies more readily. I think it lies more blatantly."
Fortunately for the D's you don't have to lie as "often" "readily" or "blatantly" when all your statement are accepted as true by the slobbering media.
and because small boys with polio can't get away fast enough
That is outrageously funny!

The Bulwark is still up and running, and not a word about the Lincoln Project scandal in it.
