Or, was never an attempt to begin with but was framed as such for propaganda purposes.

I question it being one word.

The only coup that failed, was the Russian Collusion hoax coup. What happened at the Capitol wasn't a coup. No where near a coup.

tcrosse said...

But it's not a coup-coup.

Nonapod said...

It wasn't even a "pseudocoup". It ornery directionless rabble with no defined plan of any sort other than to see how far they could get.

Pseudocoup - well aren't they just precious! They came up with a clever word.

Dave Begley said...

There was no attempt to overthrow the government. There was no plan. It was a protest that kinda got out of control.

Howard said...

It was a self inflicted contrecoup when they failed at counting coup.

Pseudo doesn't mean what they think it means.

Urban Dictionary is making fun of it. Therefore, by the laws of left-wing internet, it must be true.

"An attempt to overthrow the government"

Good thing that's never happened yet in these US of A.

Not counting the Confederacy.

Alex, what is a psychological warfare information operation coordinated in advance and used to solidify control of a worrisomely unruly, one might even say, deplorable population?

It was never an attempt to overthrow the government. It was a political maneuver by Trump to demonstrate that the GOP that he wasn't going away after he was out of office and to show that he had a large base of support in the party, in which a few malcontents and some overzealous supporters got out of hand.

Russiagate was much more of a coup attempt than the Capitol incursion. It failed to bring down Trump but it hamstrung him badly and I believe (impossible to prove) that it swung the 2018 midterms. And it helped transform our press from its normal center-left humdrum into a giant conspiracy-theorizing, xenophobe, red-baiting, Borg-like machine. What’s funny is, after their victory over Trump, their disgraceful performance the last 4 years will be memory holed, and their narrative will be, “Trump was a racist demagogue and on his way out he incited a pseudocoup.”

We could all use brief tutorial on seditious and treasonous terminology, towards developing a consensus around terms like insurrection, coup, putsch, etc. would be worthwhile. Followed shortly by a hands-on tutorial in the methods.

Here’s the link between Russiagate and the Capitol incursion: both were inspired by the losing side’s refusal to accept the election results. Russiagate was a concerted, planned effort first involving Hillary & the DNC and then sprawling out and becoming a nationwide media obsession for, oh, three years. Millions of people were radicalized based on lies, and they tried to undo the 2016 election and influence the 2018 and 2020 elections by promoting the hoax. For a long time it was treated with the utmost seriousness. No social media companies censored them.

For the last two months, Trump and his close associates have irresponsibly shouted about election fraud, and sheisters like Lin Wood & Sidney Powell whipped up a lot of anger and despair among Trump’s supporters. The widespread belief on the Right of a stolen election culminated in last week’s shameful, pitiful incursion. The crazies were out and many will be imprisoned, rightfully so. But to call it a coup, or a pseudocoup? Please. After months and months of BLM/Antifa rioting that was met with little police resistance, and was cheered on by the media, the QAnon Trumper morons thought, “hey this is OK now, and people will listen to us.”

Well, there was also Pelosi calling the JCS and asking them to commit a military coup. That failed too.

Or, was never an attempt to begin with but was framed as such for propaganda purposes.

Sounds more right, as a smaller crowd was present at the 2017 voter certification. Arrests were made, Democrats were allowed to proclaim their disagreement with the certification, and nobody called it a coup against Donald Trump. Nor has anyone called the attempt to frame a Russian Collusion story against the President a coup. And if Democrats want to continue to call this a coup, then the bar will be lowered, and a lower bar will just make it easier for the next one to happen.

It's not a pseudo-coop, it's a successful coop. The deep state and the media have won and have successfully overthrown democracy in the United States.

I doubt we will ever see democracy in the United States again. We may have the appearance of it in the future. That is a two-party system where no one ever gets nominated unless they are part of the dominant ideology and likely also they never get nominated unless they have demonstrated their corruption, with plenty of evidence, beforehand. So our pseudo-representatives can be manipulated by agencies within the deep state if necessary (and I doubt it's clear who actually is running things, even to most people within the deep state).

Or who knows maybe even that's an optimistic reading of the future. Our essential problem is that the people who now have almost all the power are rapidly moving in the direction of the Communist Party in China.

But one of the many consequences of that is that World War III is becoming more likely. If we look at the history of Communist states, they always end up fighting each other. And that traces to what is one of the fundamental differences between the right and left, the schismatic nature of the right and the hivemind foundation of the left. Once the hivemind is in charge, any tiny difference can become intolerable, because that certainly is the situation within the hivemind, and then the same judgement will be applied to other states.

I've seen pneumatic used not to describe engineering, but a comely lady. I haven't seen that lately, but at this point it would be unsurprising to see the term come into style.

effinayright said...

Will someone 'splain to me and the rest of sentient America how a couple hundred essentially unarmed people could stage a "coup" by invading the chambers of the legislative branch?

Who's got the executive power...but the Executive? Who's got the military power...but the Executive? Who is the Head of government, but the Executive? If they wanted to stage a "coup" they should have been invading the White House.

I doubt the protestors knew or cared about any of that, but it's very convenient that the Dems and the MSM don't want anyone to know it.

"An attempt tom overthrow the government"

They're crazy. Hillary Clinton, getting the nation to believing the President is a traitor who pees on hookers in Russian hotel rooms for Putin, was who was attempting to overthrow the government - emphasis mine:

“Within 24 hours of her concession speech, [campaign chair John Podesta and manager Robby Mook] assembled her communications team at the Brooklyn headquarters to engineer the case that the election wasn’t entirely on the up-and-up. For a couple of hours, with Shake Shack containers littering the room, they went over the script they would pitch to the press and the public. Already, Russian hacking was the centerpiece of the argument.”

When they bring the American people her head on a pole, then - and only then - will Democracy will be saved.

If I'm correct the most significant act of a government overthrow is the arrest or killing of the head of state.
