How naive is Ross Douthat.
In an ordinary, sane world, yeah. In a world where the Democrats have no standards to live up to, because the press approves every radical thing that they do, this worldview does not apply.
Instead he'll come out with a radical platform and the press will ask what his favorite dessert is.
So Biden lost more counties than most candidates for president.
No person has ever won with this low of a percentage of counties.
It is not even close.
The "opportunity" this person is talking about is due to a statistical impossibility.
Douhat is a fool.
If the Dems have a majority of ONE, which they get with a tie in the Senate, they will ram through everything they can. Manchin the Tease, the McCain Wannabe, talks big, but he ultimately will cave. Especially when we get President Harris in a few months, it will be totalitarian times.
Happy now, all you anti-Trumpers?
Those here who are optimistic about a "Moderate Biden" might be interested this account of how China controls US policies. It is a Chinese economics professor giving a talk in China. It was briefly posted on Chinese "Social Media" but quickly deleted.
The corruption, as usual, will not involve legislation.

He is a paid propagandist.
He works for a propaganda outlet that feeds information to flunkies and losers.
Who is this Biden guy..
A guy named bogeyfree commented on TCTH last night and called it pretty much how it happened. Original jurisdiction. Not able to be appealed.

"anti-Trumpers" were republicans who were paid for by globalists.
They are no different than democrats paid for by globalists.
Except that they had different people to lie to.
Becerra is EXACTLY why conservative Christian supported Donald Trump, though everyone else Donald Trump is of course not himself a conservative Christian.
Douthat is just another one of Jonah Goldberg’s useless former interns. And like the good house “conservative” that he is, he will say whatever bullshit is required of him.
This writer is smoking crack.
Despite no landslide, Biden will do what he wants to do and what his minders tell hime to do.
The radical libs want power and they will get it.
“ . . though everyone KNOWS Donald . . .”
Sorry.
I'm not optimistic at all about Biden actually being "moderate". I'll just agree that if Biden was actually smart he'd literally do nothing for four years. But given his mental state and the ambitions of those he's surrounded by I'm far from convinced that he'll do nothing.
https://www.axios.com/china-spy-california-politicians-9d2dfb99-f839-4e00-8bd8-59dec0daf589.html?
Yeah...because with China running the Democrat party, what can go wrong, comrades???
Biden will blow it. That's what Biden does. He's got a track record---wrong on every foreign policy decision for the last 40 years; bought and paid for by China, with a soupcon of Ukrainian for flavor.
The question is whether the yapping hyenas in the press, aka the "running dogs of the Democrat kakistocracy" will give him enough cover that the Dems in the House of Representatives don't go down in a historic blowout in 2022.
As for whether Douat is naive, a fool, or a paid propagandist, I'll leave that to the wiser commenters on the blog--but suggest you embrace the healing powers of "all of the above".
Biden won due to the masses of voters who wanted to get Trump out of office. It had nothing to do with Biden's alleged "personal popularity." (What kind of person likes Biden or sees anything in him but a mediocre and increasingly doddering factotum for the corporate and financial interests who own our government?)
Based on the excerpt, Dough Hat is engaging in the typical "on the one hand this, but on the other hand that" bullshit ruminating so typical of overpaid media hacks utterly bereft of anything to think or say of pertinence or moment.
Biden is a puppet and a pawn. He didn't really win anything. other that the "Trump Hate" trophy.
He will run as far to the left as possible, but most importantly - he will return our fortunes and control to the few at the tech oligarch Chi-com top.
Looney.
As I've observed before, the cogent, in control moderate Biden that "DoubtThat" alludes to would want Republicans to win one or both senate runoff elections.
That Biden is neither cogent nor in control does, indeed, create uncertainty.
And the not-going-away evidence of election fraud and manipulation is likely to push Biden further leftward in rearguard defense.
"I'm not optimistic at all about Biden actually being 'moderate.'"
Me, either. I think he'll go full Inner Republican.

Biden won...
He didn't win and you know it. Therefore everything after those two words is useless.
Just look at Biden's Veep, soon to be President. And look at the history of Biden's cabinet selections, such as Xavier Becerra for HHS. These people have been selected for their (a) skin color, (b) race or ethnic background, (c) gender, and (d)connections to government bureaucrats. There will be a combination of lifelong deep staters and/or progs with proper prog credentials. Actual abilities are not under consideration here.
For example: Xavier Becerra
Biden will have nothing to say about anything more starting on January 21.
All this pretends to assume, that President Jo Biden would have ANY power
Once results of the Georgia runoffs are in (Democrats eke out a win, with turnout at 121%),
Then
a) the filibuster will be overturned
b) two (or Seven) new states will be added)
c) six (or Sixteen) new judges will be added to the Supreme Court
d) ALL democrats will vote, THE PARTY LINE (or, will be suicided)
e) we will be living in a Brave New World
f) people will (quietly, while at home) miss the days when people had input into Governance
Biden has to stick around long enough so Homala can have two full terms on her own. Then he’s disposable.
"He didn't win and you know it. Therefore everything after those two words is useless."
I don't know that and neither do you. Given Trump's inability to produce the alleged abundance of "evidence" to show the election was "stolen," there is no reason to credit his self-serving claims to that effect. Trump is having his Hillary Clinton "the Russians stole the election" moment.
No thread jacking.
This post isn't about determining who won the election.
Douthat says Biden didn't lead his party to a landslide. That is obviously true.
I will delete comments that go into the arguments about how Biden actually didn't even win.
I put up posts about new things. I am not posting about each new case that is filed by the Trump supporters. If you want to bring up anything along those lines, go to the last open thread, last night's cafe.
It's absurd to think that after winning as Biden did he will then govern as if he cared how he won. His government will be just like his election. But in the Garden of the Finzi-Continis (aka NYT conservatives) they come and go talking of the American republic.
In other news: Don't Mess with Texas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I agree with Ross Douthat.
But I disagree with the Texas AG and Ted Cruz about the lawsuit filed directly with SCOTUS. First of all there is the issue of standing with regard to specific, so-called "battleground" states. There are a whole lot of states not being considered who wanted Biden for president - and Texas only has Republican Texas voters who supposedly didn't cheat but all 155 million voters need to be given priority.
Previously, SCOTUS had refused to take up appeals to cancel Pennsylvania's counting of absentee ballots received after election day - but had the high court ruled in Trump's favor, the ballot count rejection would not have changed the election results in the Keystone State.
The Supremes also moved a Pennsylvania suit filed by Rep. Mike Kelly to 9 AM this morning from 12/10/20 with the intent of refusing to hear that case and today is safe harbor day for changing certified results.
We still don't know exactly who is at the helm while Biden is the figurehead. There could be a nasty conflict among various factions for control of the quarterdeck.
"Writes Ross Douthat"
Yeah, right, and our Ross knows as much about progs as he does about us deplorables.
Problem #1: assuming "Biden" will do or think anything.
Problem #2: blatant contradiction—Joe won’t want to “squander” his advantage, but he picks Becerra – “a peculiar choice . . . It’s less odd, though, if you anticipate using your cabinet agencies the way the Obama White House did in its otherwise-gridlocked second term — as aggressive instruments of partisan policymaking”—i.e., peculiar only from our Ross’ fantasy standpoint.
"Problem #1: assuming "Biden" will do or think anything."
Exactly.
Look for his minders to do, not what is best for the country and its people, but what is politically and monetarily beneficial to them.
Everyone remember that ridiculous "Lead Story" article, first posted by Inga, that supposedly debunked the Georgia video? Every single MSM outlet besides Newsmax ran with that.
Mollie Hemingway (a national treasure) took it apart masterfully.
No, The Georgia Vote-Counting Video Was Not ‘Debunked.’ Not Even Close
That article alone is enough to completely destroy the "debunking".
Add the fact that we have audio of the Fulton County Election Thief (not a typo) stating that *scanning* was being stopped, not just the "envelope cutters"
RALPH JONES: “I think we’ll still be scanning late today a little later on um we are scheduled to scan up to 10 and 11:00 o’clock today I should say tonight at the present time”
Democrats lie. They lie about *everything*.
Trump won in a landslide.
Biden won the presidency in part because he was more popular than his party
Bull fucking shit. No one wanted Biden, especially not the Democratic base. It's just that when the shit hit the fan, they were basically down to Biden and Bernie, and there was no way the DNC was going to nominate Bernie.
I think Biden will run as far left as he can. I expect full on "they want to put you in chains" nonsense from his administration. Maybe Biden will surprise me and not turn out to be as terrible at this job as he has been at every previous government job he's had. But, you know. I'm a human, and I am good at pattern recognition.

Very much like what happened to republican poll observers in multiple states.
On the question of adding new states--when Texas was annexed, the Congressional resolution authorized the creation of up to 5 new states in the territory of the Republic of Texas (https://govtrackus.s3.amazonaws.com/legislink/pdf/stat/5/STATUTE-5-Pg797b.pdf
Wouldn't it be fun if Texas were to subdivide into 5 states--at least 3 of them, maybe even all 5, would be red. Just a thought.
He's not the president-elect. He's a puppet in a basement with a dying brain. I don't even hate the worthless little fuck. I hate the bastards who tried to steal the election for him.
I didn't see that post by Ann before my last post.
I object thoroughly to that policy. Hardly anyone is going to go to the last open thread, and the information I posted at 11:18am is huge.
With that policy, liberal lies and debunkings by the MSM effectively get assigned default "approved" status. Any arguments against it are shoved into a closet.
Very disappointed.
I think that there will be a war within the Biden Administration between the "moderates" and the "further" Left that will be a mirror image of the Trump/Never Trumper Republicans during the Trump admin, except it'll be much nastier, and involve Antifa rioters as foot soldiers.
The Far left thinks its mobilization efforts contributed to the Biden "victory", and they want their programs enacted. The Biden/Obama/Clinton factions want nothing to do with such extreme programs. They want to restore an Obama-ite status quo ante, where the Swamp works its Will on the taxpayers, to the Swamp's benefit. That's not what the far Left wants.
Remember, the Antifa violence occurred almost completely in "progressive" cities. Antifa & the Far Left knows that the moderates are much easier targets than the Right. I expect widespread urban rioting, like with Portland & Seattle, 18 months to 2 years into a Biden administration.
I am really looking forward to the development of Constitutional law under Gropey as far-reaching executive orders are issued over his authentic signature.
Humans are reactive. We have endured four years of a man whose personality fills every room to bursting.
Perhaps we the people crave the void that is Joe Biden himself. He has gotten that which he himself has craved most in life. Should he be content with that alone at this point? To what degree will this Presidency be an exercise of his will and not that of the people who made the victory happen, by whatever means it takes place?
We'll find out soon enough. I suppose the Democrats could have made this look worse than they have, but I am failing to imagine how that could be possible. They'll get no help from their opponents in making nice or putting a screen in front of the car wreck. Trump will be Trump, with all that implies.
Oily rags in a confined space. What could possibly go wrong?
Additionally, ballots were re-run through the Dominion tabulator machine after a 262-262 tie on a vote for a ballot initiative that would allow a marijuana establishment to be located within the Village of Central Lake. While ballots were being inserted into the machine, 3 of them were destroyed and were not placed through the tabulator. At the conclusion of the recount by the tabulating machine and with three fewer votes, the result was 262-261, and the initiative passed. Of course, this result could only be possible after 3 of the ballots were destroyed.
Do I need to point out the problem here?
There is only one reason for votes to be counted as Floats on a vote counting machine.
"No one wanted Biden, especially not the Democratic base. It's just that when the shit hit the fan, they were basically down to Biden and Bernie, and there was no way the DNC was going to nominate Bernie."
Which shows how self-defeating (and non-"leftist") they are.
"I think Biden will run as far left as he can."
Biden hasn't a "left" bone (or brain cell) in his body.
"We still don't know exactly who is at the helm while Biden is the figurehead."
Sure we do: the military/financial/corporate complex that is at the helm with (or served by) every administration.
"Do I need to point out the problem here?"
-- It is possible that two of the destroyed ballots did not weigh in on the measure, but if I were writing that story, I'd have noted that as the explanation in my write up, and not left it for people to deduce as a possibility.
Sure we do: the military/financial/corporate complex that is at the helm with (or served by) every administration.
If only Comrade Stalin were alive, Cook would not have to concern himself with governance.
So a "law blog" takes down a comment over a State suing four other States in the Supreme Court for voter fraud. But somehow it is not relevant to a post about a fraudulent claim or belief that Biden actually won, or didn't win by a landslide and the affects of a cultural war being created by a "narrow victory" and and HHS Secretary pick.
It would seem you have to pretend the narrow victory is real even to pontificate on the HHS pick. "Narrow victory" is the premise of the post.
There is nothing new here. The professor has been asking us to comment on a false premise for a month now. Most irksome is she knows that. I like Michael K's comment on the obvious infiltration of Communist China on our elected officials. I saw that. That's real. This is pretend.
The cultural war is here...we're living it.
Biden was NOT "more popular than his party." He was just received more fraudulent support than the down-ballot Democrats, mostly because of last-minute fraudulent Biden-only ballots. They didn't have time to fill out the rest of the ballot.

"His choice of Xavier Becerra to run Health and Human Services promises culture war"
His choice? I think this was Kamala's choice. Certainly, he wouldn't dare make it without getting her approval, but I imagine it was her idea in the first place.
Hispanics in CA are pushing for an Hispanic appointment for Kamala's seat. She's clearing the field for a "female" Hispanic. Maybe they can identify a female trans (or, would it be male trans?) Hispanic for the appointment.
A landslide is a 10% or greater win in the popular vote and 400 or more Electoral votes.
1932, 1964, 1972, and 1984 were landslides.
Biden won 51% of the popular vote and 306 Electoral votes.
The Dems won 51% of the House seats. Trump won the vote in 10 House Districts in which the Dem House member was re-elected. Biden won 3 House districts in which the GOP House member was re-elected, 3 more in which the Dem incumbent lost, and one in which the GOP candidate won an open House seat.
33 Senate seats (21 GOP held and 12 Dem) up for election.
So far, the GOP has won 17 of the seats it held, won 1 Dem held seat, and lost 2 GOP held seats with the 2 Georgia Senate seats still up for grabs.
My President Donald Trump and Melania Christmas ornament came with a disclaimer saying that Joe Biden is the projected winner of the 2020 US presidential election(Sources Reuter’s, NEP, Edison, others). Made in China®️
Sure we do: the military/financial/corporate complex that is at the helm with (or served by) every administration.
They found Trump to be mutinous, hence their great efforts to pipe him over the side.
I suppose it's good for Biden in that many elite Democrats don't buy into the shit they peddle.
A president Biden would exist because the political machine stuffed the ballot box in the right places and Hawaiian judges let them do it.
I mourn the death of rule of law like our emeritus mourns for Elvis...
0That popular candidate drew what, a busload to his "Biggest" rally in Arizona? Oh wait, thats way off... too many!
Kameltoe didn't even rate an honorable mention at the primary. I'd rate the "winning" ticket as dumb and dumber. Who is in charge? So far, it looks like Soros & Co.
"We have endured four years of a man whose personality fills every room to bursting."
That's just silly. I can go for hours at a time without thinking about Trump, as I believe most rational people can. That democrats have to live with Trump in the room (let alone in their head) 24x7x365 is their problem, not mine.
The president elect won through fraud, misrepresentation and the media hermetically sealing him from criticism. Any alleged promise of reconciliation recognized by wishful thinkers on the right is just that: wishful thinking. There is no more basis to expect reconciliation from Biden than there was to expect racial healing from his former boss, Bill Ayers' apprentice.
My letter to the Seattle Times. It's unlikely they'll publish it since it destroys the narrative of a clean election.
The Democrats stole the presidential election in the swing states. We know this because they hid their steal by throwing Republican observers out of the polling places and counting centers. They kept the observers far away from the election workers and papered over the observing windows so the observers could not detect any election cheating. They told all observers that the counting was done for the night at 10:30 then kept on working after everyone had left. And amazingly enough, during this time when they weren’t counting, Joe Biden got 100,000s of votes at multiple counting centers. That’s a neat trick, Santa must of come early for Joe. Everything else is just the details of the steal. The election workers cheated and need to face significant prison time.
Ross just needs to go to Obama for guidance: “never underestimate Joe’s ability to fuck things up”.
Xavier Becerra is an interesting choice. He passed on a likely path to lead Dems in the House by running for CA AG. Then surprised folks by becoming the leading anti-Trump Administration litigator in the country. Much more impactful than, say, Harris in the job. I guess accepting HHS means he accepted that CA Gov is looking at another Latino to fill the upcoming Senate vacancy. (Assuming Biden-Harris win. Forestalled some comments there, I hope.) I think it is rank speculation to say how he would lead HHS.

They also changed the outcome of an election by destroying 3 ballots.
Those of us who live in California have no doubts how he would lead HHS:
Lawfare. Lawfare against the Little Sisters of the Poor. Lawfare against anyone who opposes or dares to protest abortion. Lawfare against any non-“progressive” reading of the Obamacare statute.
Lawfare to pursue designation of racism as both a mental illness AND causing mental/physical illness.
Lawfare to pursue the most ridiculous definitions of gender. As a health issue of course
Lawfare to direct more taxes paid to Medicare/Medicaid to illegals, and those subject to “discrimination” i.e. anybody except actual US citizens.
If you don’t get the picture you’re not cynical enough. Or you’re also a lying “progressive” shill like Xavier.
Ahh! The house Con of the tabloid NYT, which fir some unfathomable reason you find interesting, maybe to maintain some airs of intellectualism
Biden will nominate lefties to various positions. Many of those people will be women or non-white. If/when Republicans fight and defeat those nominations, the narrative will be that the GOP is racist and misogynistic. This is what the Dems have done for decades, because it works.
It's not because he didn't get a landslide. It's because he didn't get the Senate. Yet ... If he gets the Senate watch what will happen.

Biden has been appointed. He actually hasn't won since you lot had to cheat big time in order to appoint him. It wasn't a fair and free election. There are a lot of ballots that can't be connected to real, living people.

I can't imagine you're parents being proud.
Actually, as Winston was aware, the chocolate ration was to be reduced from thirty grammes to twenty at the end of the present week. All that was needed was to substitute for the original promise a warning that it would probably be necessary to reduce the ration at some time in April.

How the Xavier Becerra for HHS confirmation hearing should go:
"Mr. Becerra, will the HHS under you attempt to force the Little Sisters of the Poor to buy health insurance that provides contraception?"
"[A lot of BS that boils down to 'Yes']"
Thank you for your time. You are rejected.
IMAO, if Biden does successfully steal the Presidential election, then the GOP Senate should restore the filibuster for all appointments. And the pattern shoudl be simple:
Q: "Do you support this extreme left wing position?"
A: Anything other than: "No, I do not support it"
"Thank you. Your hearing is over. Goodbye"
We know the Demos would have done that to Trump if they'd had the majority. e know they'll do that to any Republican President in the future if they have the majority. Therefore, there is no sane reason for the GOP not to do it to Biden
According to the YouTube/Alphabet umbrella corporation, the AP has certified the election. The Electoral Press has cast its vote for President. Democracy is aborted by the Press. #Wicked
Biden has his hands on the tail of the tiger and his addled brain won't have long to decide what to do...
Rather his handlers won't have long before they reveal what Joe has "decided".

Trump lost those states, correct?
Today Don Trump told another tall tale in a single sentence:
“You know, in politics, I won 2, so I'm 2-and-0. And that's pretty good, too,” Trump said, before adding: “But we'll see how that turns out.”
Indeed we will. So how come Trump gets to talk about who won the election but Althouse readers do not? After all, tomorrow the fat lady sings.

What do you mean? Dec 9 is meaningless. Your hero RBG said so. AA could contribute, if she were competent to do so.
Nichevo,
I’m just trying to discern the depth and methods of the alleged conspiracy.
Which states do people think Biden actually won? Was there massive fraud in those states but Biden’s margin of victory exceeded the massive fraud in those states?
This conspiracy of widespread voter fraud has an after-the-fact bias to it.
Why was Biden’s margin of victory in Michigan greater than in Arizona, Georgia, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania?
We’re the conspirators in Michigan just more effective?
mccullough,
Did republican poll observers get forcibly removed from observing the ballots being counted?
Sadness, in some places yes they were forcibly removed.
Gosh how I despise the Ross Douthats of the world. So even, so fair, so balanced, all faux of course but done in the name of representing my worldview in the NYT. Truly despise the guy.
So you're saying there is vote fraud just not massive vote fraud, right?
Look, we all know that Biden was never the brightest bulb in the chandelier, and he's lost major wattage in recent years. But as long as he's sentient, he (or the people around him who depend on him for their power and perks) will want to preserve him in his office. (Sure Kamala will have different objectives, but she has no power base of her own, and as long as Joe's sentient she will need to play the good soldier.) Joe knows that a 1st term president usually loses seats in the next Congressional election; in 2022, there's a big risk that the House will go Republican. So what does he do? He can follow the Obama Model, and use the majority he's got (particularly if that includes the Senate) to pass a big liberal agenda in two years. But then he might face a hostile Congress for the second half of his term. Or he could try a more moderate approach in the first two years: Return to the Paris Accords, stop putting immigrant children in "cages", roll back the "Trump tax cuts for the rich". But also downplay the "defund the police" stuff, de-emphasize the most extreme PC, identity politics stuff. Certainly don't push eliminating the Electoral College, admitting Puerto Rico as a State, maybe DC. Be a leftish liberal but not too much, and hope to get by to the second half of his term with a Congress he can live with. If I were advising him, that's what I'd recommend.
If I'm right, we should all move to Georgia and register to vote. If you think voting doesn't matter anymore, grow up.

How do I know this? Because I retired in July and traded cable TV for antenna television and Amazon Prime. When not constantly being bombarded by the MSM's shit, one seldom really thinks about Trump or politics.
What Douthat leaves out are the executive orders Biden's team will get him to sign. A lot will change, though it will appear not to.

I have not put enough effort into looking into those State for me to say "clearly these were stolen". But no, I've seen nothing to indicate that they were honest elections there.
mccullough said...
Sadness, in some places yes they were forcibly removed.
And that's game over. Which is why I list MI, PA, and GA. In all three of those States we know that Democrat elections officials kept Trump campaign poll watchers from being able to watch.
And that makes those results inherently fraudulent.
sadness,
"There is only one reason for votes to be counted as Floats on a vote counting machine."

We're making progress. At least one usual suspect agrees there was vote fraud in four of the six states. In the other two as well as in the first four there are citizens willing to put their freedom as well as their safety on the line to attest to vote fraud.
Safety!!
