"His job, like everyone on MSNBC, was so to spread disinformation to help Dems & keep the MSNBC audience addicted to endorphins & fear."

That screenshot of the NYT is from this article, "CNN and MSNBC Fret Over Post-Trump Future/Ratings have hit new highs, but executives and journalists at both networks are uneasy about the year ahead.
People at both networks know that viewers who abhorred President Trump may no longer need their nightly therapy sessions with Rachel Maddow or Don Lemon. And President-elect Joseph R. Biden Jr. seems unlikely to generate the 24/7 grist of drama and scandal that resurrected cable news, taking it from a dying medium to a focal point of modern politics. So even as CNN smashed a 40-year viewership record last month and MSNBC notched its highest ratings since its founding in 1996, journalists and executives at the networks say they are uneasy about the year ahead....

It makes you wonder why they'd stop looking for trouble and anxiety. Are they motivated to help the Democratic Party or to keep their ratings up?

Yes.

But if something had to give, they'd sacrifice some ratings. That's their form of patriotism and integrity.

Who pays better? The former could lead to jobs in the Administration, which is motivational at the individual level, but not for the network, particularly the jobs on the other side of the camera.

Based on their behavior I assume that their ratings have been a secondary concern up until now. Obviously they've spent many years cultivating a specific audience. The problem is that specific audience is not at all interested in "trouble and anxiety" being generated by Democrats. If CNN and MSNBC started actual doing real news I imagine that audience would disappear, so they'll have to continue to ignore negative stories about Democrats. At any rate, I guess we're about to find out how their ratings do when Trump is no longer front and center.

I think ratings still matter to some extent, but "news divisions" are being subsidized by entertainment or outright sold off to billionaires when they've run out of cash, because the main purpose of such a platform is propaganda. You have to be rich to be good at propaganda, although there are times like the Trump presidency where fate aligns the two objectives for the progressive media.

Important to remind ourselves, so we can't repeat it enough times:

1. These are not "news organizations" dedicated to informing. These are for-profit capitalist enterprises, that sell your attention span to advertisers, that have revenue and profit targets, and that are run by CEOs and CFOs that are remunerated well when they hit those targets.

2. So how to repeatedly capture and keep your attention span? Answer: alternate between fear and flattery. Flattery: tell you 'news-like stories' in a way that conveys to you that you are so much better than "those idiots and devils over there." Fear: tell you that those idiots and devils over there are doing something that will be very harmful to you, and you need to pay attention (and come back in an hour or tonight and tomorrow) so you don't get caught unawares.

3. Their ability to know what exactly you will look at, has grown exponentially now that the social media companies have the data to prove it.

The entire thing is a compete nefarious and destructive endeavor. Under the guise of "battling for the soul of our republic", and "preserving our constitutional way of life" and "saving the planet from destruction" and "keeping you and everyone healthy from a virus", they are actually destroying our social fabric, intruding on our deepest instincts to protect ourselves, inflating our pride, dividing our nation, and laughing all the way to the bank.

And you don't combat them by changing channels. The the easiest way to combat them, is to turn them off. All off. All of 'em.

Try it. Turn off news and stop clicking, and see how much better you will

Quayle said...

...and see how much better you will...

mezzrow said...

The answer depends on the degree they depend on the profit model.

As with print media, the NBC empire itself is so diverse that it can maintain an MSNBC as a religious order maintains a university or a mission. The individuals within the MSNBC entity will come and go, as will the people who steer whatever entity may own NBC, but the inertial force of the culture they embody will act as an arm of the Democratic party as long as it exists. Their souls demand that they serve virtue over mammon. There's no shortage of plutocrat cash these days to prop that up as a ticket to heaven, whether it's on earth or in the afterlife.

When the "great reset" hits with a vengeance (i.e. - somebody starts to call in the debt and actually means it) and our money collapses like no time in living memory, all bets are off. This is not an if, that's a when. Stick around.

Its amazing how you always need a leftist to tell the truth about Leftists. The center-right is addicted to imputing "good faith" to the Media/Democrats/Left etc. when there is no reason to. No Conservative website would've said what Greenwald did, namely "they weren't wrong, because wrong assumes a good faith effort to be "right".

Conservatives NEVER write like this. they constantly talk about how the MSM/Left is "Confused" or "getting it wrong" or suffering from "TDS" or "being silly" etc. And even more stupidly, "Hey, don't they know their ratings/reputation will suffer?"

The Center-right prefers to live in dream world, where their "Noble adversaries" and them can sit down over a glass of port and have a "Jolly good discussion about politics". Pathetic.

LOL. who was going to start the supposed civil war? The center-right, that can't even get off their duffs to march down the street? And why would the Left "start the civil war" when they're winning everything?

And count me among those who are glad that there's no violence. Yet. With the Civil War in the 1860s the end point was obvious -- either the federal government would conquer the Confederate states and force them to return into the Union under pretty onerous conditions, or the federal government would be forced to allow any states wanting to leave the Union and join the Confederacy to leave. What is the end point for a second Civil War? When Trump reoccupies the White House? I rather doubt that would solve anything.

But as to who would start a "second Civil War," I suspect it would be the people who can't bring themselves to avoid taunting the people they've cheated. Folks like Inga, Chuck, Howard, roesch, steve uhr, the crazy version of Mark. Somebody, somewhere, is going to hit someone's hot button and get killed for it. No loss, but things could go very bad, very quickly, from there. Keep in mind that there are only about a dozen or so -- certainly less than fifteen -- trigger pulls between now and Kevin McCarthy being Speaker of the House. Two more and McCarthy is President. The Democrats will overreact, because they always do, and before that happens they will try to confiscate everybody's guns. That will lead to ever more violence, dead cops trying to confiscate guns from people not willing to give them up, cops who resign rather than try to enforce Red Flag laws against angry good shooters, more dead politicians (from both sides) and I don't see the end. I really don't. Does it end when the last Democrat is dead? Could it end before then?

That's my analysis, take it for what it's worth. In the meantime let's everybody tone down the rhetoric, K?

You're pretending an 84% error rate is okay, especially in the context of the videos, and with a maximum allowable error rate of 0.008%, isn't prima fascia evidence of fraud.

You're pretending that the error that sends a ballot to adjudication is the envelope opening, which is false. It's at the scanning stage where they recorded an 84% error rate, and scanning (without Republicans present) is what is captured on video.

You're pretending that a single person, simply because they self-identify as a "Republican", makes 84% adjudication okay.

The firing line or hanging would be way too good for you. I pray it is far more painful than that.

Qwinn said...

To put it plainly, this 84% error rate in Fulton County and 68% error rate in Antrim County is *far far far* more obvious evidence of fraud than 900 military ballots all for Biden would be. It's not even in the same universe.

So THAT is how the Trumpists "tone down the rhetoric." Hokay.

You got one thing right, Big Mike. I am going to taunt you more than you can stand. You and all of the other Losers who bet their whole beings on Loser Trump. I'll never vote for or support another Trumpist Republican. And you see what happens when lifelong Republicans like me turn away from what has become the Trump Party. The Trump Party loses general elections. And it isn't even a big city urban vote thing. As Michigan Representative Paul Mitchell, formerly with the House Republican Leadership, yesterday released a letter disaffiliating himself with the Republican Party. And as Mitchell pointed out, it wasn't Detroit and Wayne County that tilted Michigan to Biden in 2020. Even after Trump won the state, barely, in 2016. Trump got MORE votes in Wayne County and Detroit than he did in 2016. Trump won a LARGER percentage of the Detroit vote in 2020 than he did in 2016.

No; the losing margin for Trump was in mostly/formerly wealthy and educated white suburbs of Detroit and Grand Rapids.

It happened in Michigan, and also Wisconsin and Pennsylvania. Game over. Trump pissed us off, and we made sure he lost.

@Chuck, not that you were ever going to do anything else. I'm just telling you and everybody else what reality is, the way I see it. I used to apply my analytical skills in business and report what I concluded to my managers. The good ones listened. Unfortunately for you, and for the less capable managers, there really is a real world, and we all have to live in it. I'm not advocating wholesale murder -- I fear it -- but under certain circumstances it could come. If you welcome its coming, then you're a fool.

If you honestly, truly didn't want violence Chuck, you'd back off. It's conflict resolution 101. You allow people who've lost a face saving exit, or at least, you don't antagonize them. You let them vent, get it out of their system, and move on with their lives -- as Republicans have done after every other election loss in recent history relatively quickly.

But, if you want to instead decide that how good it makes you feel to put the boot in while people are down is just TOO GOOD a feeling to listen when they say, "Hey, stop being a dick or there are people who might not respond well," then... you're an idiot. People have told you many, many times how you can resolve this (stop being a dick). So... what's more important: Your ego or risking violence? I honestly think that, at some point several months ago, something in you snapped, and you would honest to God benefit from a sit down with a psychologist, assuming of course you're even a real person. It's the Internet: You probably aren't, just playing the odds (or you ARE, but you're the Internet version of a real person, which is often a much worse version of the real person outside the Internet.)

-- You must have missed the earlier thread where I called out Achilles and a few others as being a bit too zealous in rooting for violence. If you're going to misrepresent what I'm engaging in, at least have the courtesy to do it in a way that isn't so patently obviously wrong. I've been telling both sides to walk away from violence, and given that several conservatives have said something along the lines of: "Ok, fine. We're not going to do anything if you just leave us alone," and the answer is: "Nah. We're gonna torment you," you can see why I might not have a lot of sympathy for people who want to instigate violence without the courage to just say what they want. People agitating conservatives as "sore losers" and calling them "losers" over and over want violence just as much as the people calling for hangings from street lamps, they just want to be able to gasp in shock when they get hit, like the man who whispers a racial slur to another man and then feigns ignorance as to why he was assaulted.

I guess it matters what your actual goal is. See, my stated goal IS my actual goal: No political violence. Therefore, I'm willing to let my ego be bruised. I'm willing to let people say mean things about me, even imply I'm a "Loser Trumpster," and I'm willing to listen to the arguments on what's wrong with the voting machines, or try and determine why data was deleted that shouldn't have been, etc. etc. My actions *are in line with my goals.*

If your goal isn't to preclude political violence, then I guess it makes sense to constantly antagonize people and pretend that even reasonable questions: "Why couldn't the county clerk immediately find the USB with the vote tally information in the secure compartment it is supposed to be kept?" are as equally out there as "Every 14th vote added a vote to Biden, and this analysis proves it!"

I'm generally very patient with people, but I'm not when it comes to something like this. If people really, honest-to-God all agree we don't want political violence... then everyone *needs to start acting like that's their goal.*

You can be honest Inga. Everything you're saying and doing, it's to agitate people. Just be honest; you want the violence to come as much as Achilles, you just think a different group of people will be deciding who swings from the lampposts and waters the tree of liberty.

Inga asks:

Should I be taking this as a threat Big Mike? Are you encouraging others to assassinate us?

Answer: No, and I thought at the time (and still believe) that anyone with a third grade level of reading comprehension would understand my point. It’s a simple analysis along the lines of “if X happens then the most likely consequence is Y with a downside risk of Z.” Usually the analysis includes percentages for the Y and Z consequences. If the consequences are bad, then the solution is to mitigate the possibility of X happening. Successful business projects are built, in part, on analyses along those lines. The fact that you don’t like bring told that it’s dangerous to continue being an asshole, changes nothing. I’m not encouraging violence, I thought I was careful to say it terrifies me. That’s not because I’m personally afraid of violence, but because I don’t see how it ends, what makes it stop.

The Left simply cannot understand that political violence is not a dial for the Right like it is for them, turned up and down as the level of intimidation they want to inflict requires. For the Right, it is a switch. No violence at all, the most peaceful of people, in any circumstance other than self-defense. But when the political situation gets to the point that a violent response IS self-defense, from massive disenfranchisement and hideous COVID-justified civil rights abuses, well... once that switch is flipped, it isn't going to get turned off until victory is total.

If Trump had not proven himself a fighter and smarter than his opponents so many times, the violence switch would have already been flipped. But he's earned his shot. I still believe there's a non-trivial chance that this has been one gigantic rope-a-dope operation. We know he saw this coming, after all, and getting all the traitors and infiltrators (BIRM) to self-identify now is an exceedingly important priority for the aftermath.

Full Moon,

Two of these are not like the other. Only McVeigh can rightly be called anything like a terrorist.

Weaver was a loner misfit who left small-town Iowa because it was too crowded for him and set up in the wilds of Idaho. Some damned government "informant" hounded him to cut a shotgun barrel to an illegally-short length, until he finally did. (Actually, an illegally-illegal length, but never mind about that now.) Following some screwup regarding communication, Weaver missed a court appointment and it all went downhill from there. But please note, none of the downhill stuff would have happened if the feds had just left him the fuck alone.

Koresh was a nutcase cult leader, who might well have deserved some attention from the Texas authorities regarding statutory rape or underage marriage... but nothing he or anyone else at Mount Carmel did anything that warranted a visit--much less a military-style assault--from the ATF and/or FBI. If the feds had just left him the fuck alone, like the local sheriff advised them to, quite a few men, women, and children would still be living today.

No, I don’t mean gun control — I mean confiscation. And that is not going to go well for anyone.

PS: That 393 million estimate includes 133 million guns in the hands of the police and military. And a decent fraction of what’s left are owned by Democrats.

Both does't work. See MSM ratings under Obama.

Assuming Biden is successful in stealing this election, and in living until the EC votes are counted in January, the next 4 years are going to be amusing. CNN, MSNBC, and the rest are going to see their ratings drop, WaPo and NYT are going to watch their subscriptions and page views drop, Fox is going to see the same.

Newsmax, OANN, and the new Trump News Network will all have soaring ratings.

GOP wins the House, and keeps the Senate, in 2022. Quite possibly accompanied by serious terrorist attacks on the big metro area "vote counting" areas. you know, all the places where Trump's "loss" was manufactured this time around.

By 2023 the press will be essentially working as Trump shills. Because just like the NeverTrumpers who became full throated Democrat supporters this time around, getting paid and not losing their jobs is more important to them than anything else. And Trump in the headlines means they get paid

Neither version is true. In Washington DC, an antifa weirdo stabbed four Trump supporters. The Proud Boys then grabbed the stabber, and beat him into submission and he was arrested.

The shooting happened in Olympia, Washington. This info about this one is a bit fuzzier. It's pretty clear that it was an antifa brownshirt who was shot - the video has lots of his fellow LARPers shouting "medic" ('cause they've seen that in the movies). Maybe it was a Trump supporter who shot him, but it could also just have been some guy they were assaulting. The cops arrested the guy, and the guy who got shot didn't suffer life threatening wounds.

The previous weekend in Olympia, another antifa got shot (also not life threatening). Earlier that day, Trump supporters had won a fight against antifa while the cops watched. The cops just stood around and watched as antifa got their asses kicked. Think about that - in a leftist city in a leftist state, the government enforcers stood around and let Americans beat up leftists.

See that you are slaving overtime in helping NYTabloid to unload the effluvia, befor Biden comes in. So that all thus will be old news. Cheers on that extreme neutrality.

And Rick is just another Matt Sablan, a weakling who likes to pretend he’s above it all, all the while wallowing with the pigs.

I honestly would be surprised if Biden got even 50 million (real) votes. And Trump easily got 80.

It wasn't close. Not even remotely. The fraud was staggering, and history will record it as such.

If I were the USSC, I would order that as a test case, a single state among those contested (I volunteer Pennsylvania) redo the vote with full voter integrity measures.

The results would be at least 20% different. It would lay the massive scale of the fraud bare beyond doubt. Which is why leftists would do everything they can to prevent any such thing.

Ok you asked for it you demented geezer. My guess is that you specialized in hemmorhoidectomies. What level of accreditation I attained in my 35 years of nursing is none of your business. And that you disparage LPN’s as bedpan carriers displays what a jerk you are. Most doctors I worked with had a huge level of respect for LPN’s and CNA’s who were the heavy lifters and hardest working people in a nursing team. I did not retire as a LPN or CNA.

Sounds like you were an LPN. No disgrace in that but it does explain your uneducated use of links.

If I specialized in hemorrhoids, I'm sure we would have met before this.

Love to all.

Well you go boy, believe what you want. As for the normal people, which includes conservative judges, even ones appointed by Trump himself, as well as the 3 SC Justices he selected, we don’t believe in your conspiracies. By now you sound like Charle Brown, whaa whaaa, whaaa.

Impossible, even if I had hemorrhoids and needed surgery I would’ve researched your surgical practice record and rejected you sight unseen. You apparently were interested in hemorrhoids as they are as part of being an asshole, like you.

Thanks for answering my questions Quinn. I haven’t forgot that you seriously think I should be hung or put before the firing squad because my opinions are not the same as yours. You are a dangerous person.

"hanged"....men are hanged, pictures are hung. Some men are hung, but not with a noose around their necks

Inga: Your fellow vermin have a total of 2 skills: infiltration and blackmail.

The only argument you people have, and you repeat it monotonously and endlessly as your answer to every single issue, is "even Republican X says you're wrong!"

There's no test for someone to self identify or claim to be a Republican, Inga. It means literally nothing. In fact, because you parasites have infiltrated literally every institution, odds are better than 90% that any given Republican is leftist vermin. Or compromised by blackmail (fabricated or not).

So give the "even Republicans don't agree!" bullshit a rest. Conservatives have been talking about how much they hate the GOPe nonstop for years. Their betrayals are routine and entirely expected.

But you don't have any other arguments, so we know why you repeat it endlessly. But fucking hell it's boring.

a weakling

It's too bad you never matured past thinking this a meaningful insult.

Inga's ability to express her hatred one moment and wallow in victimhood the next probably indicates some form of bipolarism. That and a life devoid of any accomplishment anyway.

As I said, Rick is a weakling, he’s always struck me as being passive aggressive and feminine, but not in a positive way. As I said, whether you believe it or not, I have never considered myself a victim, don’t allow myself to become victimized and I’m more than willing to cut you down to the quick should I need to. I despise weak men and you make my skin crawl.

The only thing more amusing than Inga serially mass posting the thoughts of others that she clearly doesn't understand in the slightest is her posting her very own "thoughts", such as they are, as we've seen in this thread.

Personally I miss Noted Geo-Politico-Military Strategist Phenom Inga regaling us with "insider knowledge" on why this strategy or that tactic by Trump was horrifically dangerous and terrifyingly disastrous!!

LOL

Ah, the good old days.....

Can anybody tell me how most journalists today are better sources of information than the average person? The average liar even?

Maybe they could try something novel, like actually doing their jobs, and see how the ratings shake out.

You should know. Look at your fat jowly face in your picture, even with stubble your double chins are evident. Gross.

With minimal signal diversity (e.g. JournoLism, consensus), with strong single/central attributes, they actually perform worse than a random sample.

MDT @ 4:38pm,

As a first approximation, you can't go wrong with Glenn Reynolds' "Name That Party" protocol: if it doesn't explicitly name or describe the perps, then it's a very safe bet they are progressives, lefties, Democrats, etc.

Same sort of cautionary response is warranted for any flamboyant hate crime: you should assume it's a hoax until proven otherwise.

Well. To be fair to Howard he's an environmental engineer or something like that. Not a real engineer. Cut him some slack. And he lives in the upper New England area. You know. Where they fuck their relatives.

It's the Ritmo thing again. Inga sees a picture taken when sailing 30 years ago and imagines it shows what she thinks. Ritmo didn't like the previous photo I used as an avatar.

I really think she was drunk last night. I wasn't kidding about AA .
