The "Little Pimp" gaffe.

To be fair to Trump, there is a movie "Li'l Pimp." It looks truly atrocious, but maybe Trump has watched it:

As for Lil Pump himself, I had never heard of him, but I read his Wikipedia page and watched the video he made with Kanye West, "I Love It," which I won't embed here because the lyrics include the n-word, but I thought it had some artistic merit. Nice costumes:

I definitely do not feel better about the state of our society after watching that video. That was mean Ann.

Coming up with an original rapper stage name is becoming more challenging since most of the obvious ones have been used.

There's a pretty good online rap name generator, although I have no idea if it does a check to see if the name is actually already in use. It suggested "Audacious C C Cobra a.k.a. Lucid Pimpz" for me.

Holy shit, Birkel gets a shout-out! Congrats Birkel.

But will the media cover it?

They can't let black people know so many of them are supporting Trump.

But a "gaffe!"

Was it a gaffe?

I've never heard of him and that video has half a billion views!

I guess I'm out of touch, but I would be embarrassed to listen to that song in mixed company. Or any company.

I don't think being called a pimp is an insult to a rapper anyway, so...

Wait! Are you saying there are rap & hip-hop songs that don't?

Isn't 'lil' short for 'little'?

I don’t care how many songs I am excluding. That’s my policy.

I also have a policy of switching off any song that has that word, but I made an exception for “I Love It.”

When I’m in my car, listening to the radio, if that word is in a song, I change the channel. I’m not participating in that even passively.

Perhaps you don’t know of the classic “Shut the fuck up bitch, shut the fuck up.” Those are the lyrics, repeated many times.
The art form is broader than your preconceptions my friend.

I have a policy of switching off any song that's similar to "I Love It" in its vocals (e-yew) or rhythm.

I do the same.

And when I hear the music in public or at work I ask people if they think calling women hoe's and people the n word is OK.

The way women are treated in those songs actually bothers me more.

Do you also condemn those who use that word? Even if those using it are themselves of the dusky persuasion?

The video is funny. Worth the watch. You might not want to play it out loud if you are at work .... Ha ha ha ha, as if! Those were the days, when we used to work in offices with other people.

Hahahahahah. Just saw a headline: Lil Pimp will leave US if Biden elected.

I love it.

I'll be the first to admit that Kanye has "some" artistic merit :) Not sure how much, but it's certainly more than zero.

Maybe Birkel will call you “a whiny little Kunta Kinte” now that Olbermann has blazed the trail!

Yes, Keith Olbermann called Trump exactly that in a now deleted Tweet!

Could have been worse. Trump could have said "Lil Pumpernickel".

Lil Pump is absolute garbage. Semi-literate mumble rapping of braindead lyrics over generic trap beats. Gucci Gang is built around racks, chains, bitches, cocaine, Balmains, and while boasting about brands, sex, and drugs is not unfamiliar territory in hip-hop, but Pump has no context or point-of-view. It's just Mad Libs. He's among the first of the post-Twitter rappers, who has grown up almost entirely in a world with social media.

Seems like a lifetime ago that the bobbleheads at Fox News were hyperventilating over Common being included in a White House event. It's a pity, because I would love to hear Sean Hannity read out loud some of Pump's lyrics.

Not a fan of the song with Kanye, but “Gucci Gang” was good I thought, and a few of his other (delightfully) braindead tunes. And I also remember when heads exploded over Common and people were pretending like he was a gangsta rapper, lol!

Little Pump has nothing to do with Little Pimp so why do we have to "be fair to Trump?"

Had Biden made such a screw-up, accusations about his declining mental state would be the subject of responses here.

PubliusFlavius said...

You won't link it because of a word...

...I wouldn't because rappers are too fucking cheap to hire a drummer.

Rap would be real music if it wasn't some choot chatting over a computer.

It might be racist to refuse to listed to 90% of rap music just because Black people don't live up to your standards - shutting out a whole race of people and their culture.

Not having to hear such horrors is actual White privilege.

"".. lyrics include the n-word,.." What word appears in your brain when you say 'n-word'"

Not to worry, it's okay as long as you don't say it out loud. Kind of like Beetlejuice... Beetlejuice...

Schubert Lieder. Not a single n word. No bitch, beeyatch, skank, hoe, or slut either.
Hugo Wolff, Johannes Brahms, also safe.

Watch out for Richard Strauss though; he set some Dehmel.

The "n" word, a word signifying familiarity, a salutation in use among younger African American males. See also "buddy", "man", "pal" and "dude".

Even if Trump loses, which I do not expect, I'm thankful, and the nation is lucky to have had four years of him. It could have been even better if the Democrats accepted the election in 2016, and not wasted all their energy and much of everyone else's trying to undo it. That would weaken any President's power at home and abroad, but Trump still managed to accomplish more than most in the world and domestically. He also exposed a lot of what is wrong in our nation and some of it's institutions, much of which none of us would have imagined if Trump hadn't flushed them out like a well made fishing lure. Americans will never foolishly trust some institutions like we once did. That's too bad, but also essential to preserving what is great about America. "Government of the people, by the people, for the people".

Ha! No, we would assume his dementia was in remission. Getting just one letter wrong would be a miraculous improvement over blowing entire phases, forgetting what state you are in, what office you are running for, who your opponent is, and what you are wearing. I mean, that's storybook, man.

"Yes, Keith Olbermann called Trump exactly that in a now deleted Tweet!”

He deleted it after LaVar Burton himself went after him.

All of these white people explaining to black people how to be black. If you travel around the world very much, and you see America through other people’s eyes, it’s black Americans who really define our culture abroad and lead to our cultural dominance worldwide. I don’t think that black people need a lot of pointers from the white left on how to be black.

tim in vermont said...

That was weak even for you gadfly.

How about just today when Joe introduced his granddaughter as his dead son Beau. That’s senility.

That happened, and you think that the best thing for America would be to give this guy the nuclear football.

John henry said...

Didn't you used to be a fan of curb your enthusiasm?

But that's OK, right?

Because reasons.

I take your point, and I like some of the work by Migos or Future, but I can't stand rappers like Lil Pump or 6ix9ine. If lyricism doesn't matter in hip-hop then the whole enterprise really is just a drum machine and an attitude.
