So, Althouse, was it nice of that nice, clever boy Ben Wikler to weaponize entertainment?
If so, why? If not, wouldn't a protest vote be in order? If only to tell progs who mean to pollute and poison the culture for the sake of power that you despise what they are doing?
I didn't vote for him (did a write-in: Cocaine Mitch, the real hero of saving our judiciary, for now), but Dearest Hubby voted for Trump and wanted to take part in one. He drove and I waved a sign through our sun roof).
We were in the belly of the beast (artsy-fartsy Kirkland WA)and I gotta admit that I was shocked at the number of people who honked in support, waved or gave thumbs up. As we passed by the apartment houses (with the gazillion $$ views), lots of folks on balconies waving, whistling, clapping. At every corner, at least one person was taking photos/videos on their cell phones - I think most were supporters and they wanted to memorialize that this actually happened in Kirkland Washington. Or, maybe they called the police, LOL.
Republicans and independent thinkers are breaking the chains. No longer afraid. I do credit Trump for that - he has given us the courage to show our faces.
We also received a handful of thumbs-down and one nasty youngster lady saying "disgusting, degusting".
Just watched a video of a man being shot by police on his front doorstep after he put the gun down inside in plain view and came out with his hands up in the air. Five shots in the chest. No justification legally or morally. The cop was fired immediately, but not charged, which he should have been. I have seen a number of similar videos, and these incidence have 3 things in common: 1) No real threat from the victim, 2) No protests or looting, and 3) Non-Black victims. Also no coverage by the media. Who's lives really don't matter?

Well, my Trump hating relatives are having a meltdown.
They are convinced that the country is going to be aflame because Trump's supporters are "brainwashed" and he will call them out to do violence if he doesn't win of if he does win. Something like that.
I was then informed that an armed "gang" of Trump supporters tried to run Biden's campaign bus off the road in Texas yesterday and the are akin to a fascist paramilitary force.
This all began 10 minutes after they turned CNN on this evening.
Everyone knows that Harris is the next President if Biden is elected. They've said as much and all the wheels are on the bus Biden will be thrown under. Everyone knows the story. Pelosi's test for mental competence, 'Harris/Biden "gaffes". The choice of a 2%er from a blue state for VP. The very selection of a mental incompetent as the Dem pick. I wouldn't be that suprised if the Hunter laptops were plants by the Dems to start the engine on the bus.
The powers that be are running Harris for POTUS. Biden's just the front man. How bad is that?
I prefer cafe to be spelled without the accent grave, but that is just me.
Anyway, I have spent A LOT of time lately with some of the smartest people on the face of the earth ---- elite anti-cancer doctors, elite law enforcement people, and quite a few of the people who are often considered the "poorest of the poor" (that being said I Hate that phrase - as if anybody among us who was born to die and watch everyone they love get older and closer to dying, is anything but poor!!!! IT IS NOT A COMPETITION wake up and understand) .....
and, as often as I have been insulted on the internet for saying, God loves you, my young friends, trust me ------
trust me, the cancer doctors know how much God loves you, the best ones, anyway, the elite law enforcement people know the same thing, and trust me, "the poorest of the poor" are on your side EVERY TIME that a disagreement arises between the side of people who know how special you are while on the other side, SAD TO SAY, the opposition is full of sad people who, in the FOOLISHNESS OF THEIR HEART, want you to think that God, like some clueless old fool, HAS FORGOTTEN HOW SPECIAL YOU ARE.
Someone quoted Dave Rubin in an earlier post, and out of a masochistic impulse I listened to the interview on Fox & Friends. Rubin was a natural fit for the format. A good-looking, shallow nitwit who talks in buzz phrases. I've always thought Rubin was an empty suit more motivated by a desire for media celebrity than any real coherent political ideology. He's defined almost entirely by his opposition to a certain style of left-wing identity politics. It's clear from listening to Rubin speak that he's made no effort to understand the ideas he is attacking. He's a textbook example of confirmation bias masquerading as a free thinker who relies on reason.
Anyone offering a partisan explanation and/or solution for our current predicament (the problem is the Dems/Repubs or the left/right or the far left/far right or the radical left/radical right) should be ignored. It doesn't require a critique of anarchism, Marxism, Leninism, or postmodernism. The roots of our problems are in liberal capitalism, a radical ideology of individualism that abhors tradition. While it provides a great deal of personal autonomy and efficiency, it also uproots traditional values and drastically reorders societies. The American right's attempt to advocate tradition/religiosity and liberal capitalism was always self-defeating. Rubin is emblematic of the reflexive, unthinking dismissal of leftwing critiques of capitalism, which he (incorrectly) conceptualizes as invariably some variant of Leninism. This leaves Rubin in the interesting position of adamantly opposing ideas he's never understood in the first place.
I was at the Dubuque airport Trump rally absurdly early and saw the many rounds of charter or shuttle bus drop-offs at the main lot. All entering temperature checked, half to majority masked. Cold with heavy wind..everyone enthused. The song list during prelude has grown extremely eclectic since last time I was at a rally. Village people to modern opera influenced pieces sung in Italian. Some pretty good speeches by Iowa pols. When I get some sleep, I will check if any of that gets to the web. Although brought about out of "necessity", an outdoor rally at an airport adds a unique drama as Air Force 1 lands in view. Trump had good energy and was good humored throughout. Video screen was used a couple times for a polished piece with broad overview of achievements and another piece a compilation on Biden Fail/Gaffes. My main critique is his continued refrain on how China is to blame for Covid. I'm not sure there are many that haven't heard that enough. The thing I just couldn't keep marveling at was how real and relatable and fun he comes across in these compared to the angry old man bit Biden works. as I waited for exiting vehicles to leave, I noticed a long line of folks walking through a prairie up a hill. I assumed there was a secondary parking lot up there, maybe there was. But after I took the long circuitous road away from the airport I finally got to the highway intersection with cops directing traffic. As I drove from that intersection (a long ways from airport) I saw a car apparently stalled alongside highway. A little further, I saw another two cars stalled out. Then another three..and when I looked on other side of highway, same pattern. This went on for at least a mile. Obviously all these cars were remnants of overflow from the lot who hoofed it all the way to the airport either along the highway and along that long circuitous road..or up and over a hill through prairie. Come on, man!
I will add..Grassley was there and during his prelude prepared speech, seemed to have trouble with delivery, staying on track. A bit Bidenesque, really. But when Trump brought him up for a brief hello, he punched through with a reminder of Trump's Middle East progress and multiple Nobel noms...noms which really weren't mentioned elsewhere. Perhaps Obama's so completely devalued it that campaign steers away.
FOLKS! Here's the deal, November surprise coming tomorrow. Omarosa gonna drop her audio tapes of Trump using the bad word, as promised Tom Arnold gonna follow with the video of something,as promised Cnn gonna broadcast the five-prostitute Golden Shower on Obama's bed.
Try hard in what way? Sure he’s putting out a lot of energy. But rallies with supporters are easy for him. What would actually require emotional and psychic effort would be reaching out to a broader audience with a more inclusive message or exercising real leadership around the pandemic. Had he done either so he would be a lock to win. That was too hard for him, though.
Prof., do you have any plans to end moderation? Are the people you want to filter out really still pestering you? (What’s the matter with some people?)
Moderation has nearly killed the back and forth among your commenters and while in the regular threads that could be seen as a good thing, it renders the cafes pointless. Plus, while intellectually I know that how you spend your time and run your blog is none of my business, emotionally I sometimes feel like a burden because my posts make more work for you.

Nobody on the right cares about the Peace Prize—too many winners who haven’t earned it, simply because they were the flavour of the week. We’d like to see Trump get it, not for the honour, but strictly for laughs.
"Along the way, Gaga has earned plenty of cash - but that's what sold-out world tours, Super Bowl halftime shows, and viral music videos will do - but for a New Yorker who learned to drive late in life, she's built up an impressive automotive collection along the way."
Diagram the above sentence from "14 Cars In Lady Gaga's Collection..." by Michael van Runkle.
Notice the symmetry: the sentence begins and ends with "along the way." Notice the two instances of " - but ." Do you think these constructs were intentional?
There are two contractions. Is "that's" intended to mean "that has" or "that is" or "that was" or "belonging to that?" Discuss similarly the contraction "she's."
Rewrite the above example in one or more sentences to express van Runkle's thoughts more clearly and concisely.
Does van Runkle really write badly? Or is he just having us on?
The é (accent aigu) is only ever found on the letter e, and turns it into an “ey” sound in places you wouldn’t otherwise expect it to be an “ey” sound. The accent grave can be found on the letters à, è and ù. It has two functions- on the e, it turns an e into an “eh” sound in places you wouldn’t otherwise expect it to be an “eh” sound.
Some people mispronounce words in order to make people think they are the sort of person who mispronounces words, or use the wrong word for the same reason.
Think Curly and his pronunciation of Cham-PAG - nee, for champagne,
or Mrs Slocum and her use of unanimous and the diminutive for cat.

Trump's Scranton ̶r̶a̶l̶l̶y̶ peaceful protest will be visible from outer space

Liberal capitalism is the combination of a a liberal political order with a capitalist economic order.
