Excellent observation by Ann that Rush is a Stoic.
I learned about Stoicism from Tom Wolfe's "A Man in Full" and Adm. James Stockdale's book, "Thoughts of a Philosophical Fighter Pilot." Stockdale was a Vietnam POW and Stoicism got him through it.
Marcus Aurelius also wrote a great book on Stoicism.
Thank you, but I'll pass on the anatomy lesson from Jeffrey "Slow Hand" Toobin.
Jane Mayer used to write for the WSJ and seemed at home right wing, long ago; so not out of the range of imagination.
"Shutting the lid"? I guess we know where Biden got the phrase from. You seem hung up on sympathizing and "understanding" Toobin. why? When did Toobin ever show Trump or anyone else he disliked any sympathy or understanding. So count me out.
what a contrast between Limbaugh and Toobin. From the sublime to the ridiculous. I wonder if Toobin is a stoic or has greatness of soul? I doubt it. Anyway, your comments on Limbaugh's stoicism is a good one. I'm even more astounded at Rush's behavior in Jan/Feb 2020 when he thought he was going to die, yet never let on.
Somebody stated there are no female stoics. I wonder if that's true. There certainly are very few female stoical philosophers.
So did Ryan Holliday, several good books on the topic. Great for the youngsters in your life.
As a foil to the subjectivity of truth, I present The Peristence of Memory, where "Hard objects become inexplicably limp in this bleak and infinite dreamscape, while metal attracts ants like rotting flesh... “to systematize confusion and thus to help discredit completely the world of reality.”
Here’s the stoics book I’m reading

First time listening to the podcast - - Bravo! It sounds like an NPR show: "And now, NPR presents Cruel Neutrality with Ann Althouse. Here's your host, Ann Althouse!"
You should send in your résumé to NPR, maybe they'll want a replacement for Diane Rehm at some point. :-)
