Facebook invites me to share a "memory" from November 2010... and it takes me a little while to get my head around it.

Here's my original blog post from 2010, when Trump was considering running for President in 2016 and said: "I am thinking about things. And I'm looking at this country ... and what's happened in terms of respect, and the respect for this country is just not there. I have many people from China that I do business with, they laugh at us. They feel we're fools. And almost being led by fools. And they can't believe what they're getting away with."

ADDED: This is a post about how Facebook confused me today, but maybe I'm confusing you. What's the time line? Today's suggestion from Facebook, if you read the fine print, says that I put this on Facebook 4 years ago, which was during the 2016 presidential campaign. It's a screen shot from something I'd put on the blog in 2010 which was 10 years ago. I think it's interesting again, as Trump runs for reelection.

Goes to show, we misjudged Trump more than he misjudged Palin.

Why exactly did the Facebook nexus come in?

Did Facebook prompt you specifically about "November 2010" for any particular reason?

Did a Facebook 'machine read' of the content of your Althouse November 18, 2010 blogpost prompt the current day invitation to share a "memory"?

Trump surprised me by running, and surprised me even more by his debate performances. He started as a joke and ended by being President.

I was always sad that Palin ran as VP. It destroyed her career. Had she just stayed in Alaska, it quite possible she could have run and won the POTUS nomination in 2012. but McCain's staff sabotaged her, the liberals sued her out of the Governorship, and the constant press/RINO attacks destroyed her reputation. A rising Republican star ended up doing TV shows. She easily could've been our first female POTUS.

Why isn't Althouse running an article on the Clinesmith guilty plea in the Russian Hoax Scandal? Does she think she is Rachel Madcow?

We were eating the seed corn, as a country.

Trump has placed the seed corn out of reach for the time being.
We will have an opportunity to plant a new crop for future consumption.

After 2025, I wonder if the ravenous Democratics can be forced back again.
Their plan seems to be to burn the cities and pillage the countryside.
My plan is to let the first half of their plan happen.

No arguing with that, except for the word “almost.” (Remember that this was in 2010.) And I think that Trump really could have beaten Sarah Palin head to head. So what? After all, he beat Crooked Hillary Clinton like a bongo drum.

The worst things about Chinese politicians is they kinda look the same, and they have weird names which are hard to remember. That and their awful social policies.

Teh google [china president] and you get -

"People also search for
Xi Mingze, Li Keqiang, Xi Jinping, Peng Liyuan, Ke Lingling, Jiang Zemin, Hu Jintao, Wang Qishan."

Back then I would've said Palin had a greater chance of being potus than Trump ever would. We really are living in the Spock's beard timeline.

I did see a show where Sarah Palin was caribou hunting. IIRC she shot at the bull three times before she dropped it. I was impressed with a woman willing and able to put meat on her table with a high powered rifle (them things kick, donjya know), but at the same time I considered that most female politicians — and all Democrats — would have had them edit out the two misses.

Rcocean said “I was always sad that Palin ran as VP. It destroyed her career”. In think Palin, as likable as she was (at least initially) lacked something (I’m not sure what) to carry her forward politically. I think the same thing can be said about Carly Fiorina in 2016. If you could have combined those two personalities you would have a formidable candidate.

Is that Nikki Haley?

DJT at the NYPD awards last night was 100% New Yorker in his energy and use of language. That was being himself. Usually he talks to middle Americans in their thought patterns. NB: that is how he wins elections .He connects with and respects Americans. It was that simple.

Nikki Haley can eat a bag of dicks.
All the big government (READ: fake) conservatives can do the same.

I am looking directly at you Phil 314.

You need to focus more on values, beliefs, political instincts and guts.

In case you hadn't noticed, Carly has already endorsed Biden, because of course she did.

Palin was a threat and they destroyed her. Sexism? Trump was a threat, they try to destroy him, but he prevails. Racism? Maybe there's something to "if you can make it in NYC". Diversity breeds adversity, but surviving, and prospering where there is systemic diversity proves your mettle.

Sarah Palin was the warning that Trump was coming. Nobody missed that worse than the McCain wing of the GOP.

Love it when Althouse links to a golden oldie. Always fun to see who signed the yearbook and what they wrote.

Umm. Maybe Hillary missed it worse? The shocker for McCain was that Trump wouldn’t let him hide behind the Hanoi Hilton.

This reminds me. Right after the election results rolled in on November 8, 2016, didn’t David Brooks pledge go out to the hinterlands and interview Trump voters to find out why Trump won? Does anyone know whether he ever got west of Newark (except to catch a flight out to left coast)?

Alrighty then!

"In case you hadn't noticed, Carly has already endorsed Biden"

Didn't know that. Disappointing.

I did have point in my original post, just not well articulated.

Believe me, its in there somewhere!

Totally agree. And I wonder what advice the McCain campaign gave to Palin regarding the SNL appearance during the campaign (let alone the advice for McCain himself to appear on SNL just before the election)

And now see those same campaign managers now and wonder, who were they working for!?

They are hoping people will ignore it just like the major Propaganda media does...

The "McCain wing of the GOP" is really just the Other Wing of the DNC.

Which has been conclusively demonstrated since 2008.

Irrefutably.

Phil: "Didn't know that. Disappointing."

LOL

Should have known that...before she ever announced it.

Utterly predictable.

Phil: "Is that Nikki Haley?"

Are you even paying attention?

Nikki Haley is W Bush/Romney.

I quit Facebook when I realized I was expected to provide my services for free, to promote their advertising. Much like recycling, I'll think it has value when I'm paid to participate.

That said, Facebook pulled up a 4 year old reminder of what you noted then as even older - a somewhat negative Trump post. Nice little propaganda software you have there, Facebook. I look forward to Facebook's ability to autogenerate an attempted October Surprise every day of that pre-election month.

More importantly, Noem has demonstrated that she knows every bit of the establishment narrative needs to be discarded out of hand while operating from conservative first principles.

The anti-Haley.

For David Brooks, the "hinterlands" is anything above 110th Street or West of Columbus Avenue.

What does that mean, we elected The Apprentice? Because it was a hit TV show? I'm dense here trying to wrap my mind around the meaning of that comment before we actually elected the star of The Apprentice.

Obama was The Apprentice.

Reminds me of the type of comments people used to offer up about Reagan and calling him just a B-grade actor who starred with a monkey.

They never mentioned Reagan being the Governor of the largest state in the Union for 2 terms, heading up the Screen Actors Guild and staving off a commie takeover, and then spending 10 years traveling to every General Electric plant in the US to give speeches and meet with the workers and hearing from them directly, all long before he became President.

So I guess I'm not surprised there would still be those that wish to pretend that all Trump ever did was host The Apprentice before running for President.
