Their website is here. They are there to protect US government buildings and property from the rioters. In downtown Portland they have attacked the Mark Hatfield US Court House, the Customs House, and a Federal office building. The stupid Portland mayor, Ted Wheeler, has not only failed to stop any of this but has actually aided and abetted it and tried to interfere with the Feds legitimate power to protect US government facilities. I wish they would arrest him, too.

Each unit member has a US CBP patch on his left shoulder and a rectangular patch underneath with their Badge/ID number. I have plenty of lefty friends on Facebook calling them "secret police" and an example of Trump's "creeping fascism." They are neither.

I don't see much difference with Trump sending the BORTAC units to protect Federal property than Col. R. E. Lee being sent with a detachment of Marines to recover the US armory at Harpers Ferry from John Brown and his followers in 1859. It’s not the job of the federal agents to separate out the “peaceful” protesters from the violent rioters, when they are intentionally intermixed. If the “peaceful” protesters don’t want to be hurt, gassed, etc, they need to separate themselves from the rioters when they get violent. When they don’t, it is all on them. Often, it appears that the true “peaceful” protesters are separated from the violent rioters by time - before dark, things tend to be fairly peaceful, but after dark, the violent rioters come out.

And we aren’t talking just screaming at the federal agents, but things have apparently escalated to the point that the violent rioters are actively trying to injure as many federal agents as they can, by throwing hard and sharp objects, and even set spikes for them this weekend, upon which one federal agent was impaled.

As for masking their identity, it is SOP, and has been for quite some time. This weekend, in Chicago, the violent rioters got close enough, to Chicago PD officers to read badges, then looked them up on the Internet, in real time, followed by broadcasting their family and residence .information via bull horns to the crowd, who then started taunting the officers with threats against their family members. About raping their wives and daughters, before killing them. That is why their names are not visible on the uniforms of the federal agents. They do have information visible about their department and units, and typically an identification number, in case a bona fide complaint is warranted.

There is, of course, no Constitutional or legal reasons that they have to move around in marked vehicles, or even government owned vehicles. They don’t, for good reasons. For one, in Portlandia, identified federal LEO vehicles are almost instantly mobbed when recognized by the violent rioters. But even beyond that, even when the government owns the vehicles, they aren’t marked. It’s primarily a safety issue.

Face it. Most of your complaints are the result of intentional misinformation and propaganda on the part of the rioters and their enablers. For the most part, those injured by the federal agents have intentionally placed themselves in harm’s way. They are present in the midst of violent attacks on the federal agents, or have participated in illegal behavior, such as entering the area around a federal building that has been identified as an exclusion zone. Or are just plain lying. The feds are picking up people to arrest, or as material witnesses, and unless in the midst of an attack by the rioters, are not picked randomly, but rather are targeted.; 7/21/20, 7:58 PM

It’s half century old slang for AC-130 Spectre gunships. First used apparently in 1966, in Vietnam, they have been in heavy use in recent years in places like Afghanistan and Iraq for close air support. Typical Yankee ingenuity. They were starting to use Gatling guns during the Vietnam War capable of firing at 2+k rounds per minute. Except aircraft typically couldn’t carry even a minutes worth of ammunition. Someone got the bright idea of putting a couple of Gatling guns in a (C-130) cargo plane, and firing them out the side. Being a cargo plane, it could carry enough ammunition to shoot for extended periods of time. They shoot out of one side, typically banking in a “pylon” turn that rotates around a single point on the ground. It would be pitch black, and then Spooky would open up, with a cone of tracer fire lighting up the sky. Then it would be dark again. That’s the “Sooky”.
