"President Donald Trump on Friday broke his silence on a tell-all book that dives into the president's upbringing and family life..."

"... distancing himself from his author niece and calling her a 'mess.' 'Mary Trump, a seldom seen niece who knows little about me, says untruthful things about my wonderful parents (who couldn’t stand her!) and me, and violated her NDA,' Trump wrote on Twitter. 'She’s a mess! Many books have been written about me, some good, some bad. Both happily and sadly, there will be more to come!'... Speaking with CNN's Chris Cuomo hours after Trump's tweet, Mary Trump [said] that she and her grandmother were 'very close.' 'My grandfather didn't really have positive feelings for anybody except perhaps Donald'.... During the explosive interview with Maddow [on Thursday], Mary Trump said that she had heard the president and other members of their family use anti-Semitic language and a derogatory slur on Black people."

From "A seldom seen niece': Trump fires back at Mary Trump over tell-all book/The author, in turn, delivers a live rebuttal on cable television" (Politico).

I'd thought that Trump was going to keep silent about Mary Trump — that silence would be an eloquent way to suggest that he knows a lot about her — leaving us to imagine that she may have mental health problems or complicated grudges and that Trump is honoring his beloved dead brother by leaving his daughter in a special sacred circle of immunity from his otherwise free-wheeling attacks.

And maybe that was what he'd decided to do but he had to reverse his position after the Maddow interview, because the poison of the accusation of racist speech requires an immediate antidote.

But was that an effective antidote? It's a hell of a thing to say to someone — your grandparents couldn't stand you.

I know I discarded the racist-speech accusation immediately because it's just about individual words that were used — used or mentioned? — in private. I need at least sentences — not isolated words — to have any idea whether what was said was even bad.

Here's the Rachel Maddow segment:

By the way: "When you ask a normal, right-handed person about something he's supposed to have seen, if he looks upward and to his left, he's truly accessing his memory of the incident... However, if he looks upward and to his right, he's accessing his imagination, and he's inventing an answer." Mary Trump repeatedly looked up and to the right to "see" the answers to the questions she was asked. I don't know if she's right-handed.

"Explosive"

How truly embarrassing to read this book or interview this woman. I mean, to hate Trump so much you need a fix, and reading a book by his niece goes right into your veins. People who need this are addicts.

Now go watch "South Side With Me" and you'll have your speedball.

I also thought Trump would remain silent, so long as he wasn't being harmed, attributing the silence (imagined, if you will) to a beneficent act toward a family member. But the racism charge was too much to let go, and it was leveled at Donald and his father. As criticisms go, Uncle Donald's is mild, he's tweeting to undermine her credibility and question her veracity. If she were smart she would have anticipated that reaction, which, perhaps, she did and Trump's tweets will serve to help her sell more books.

i'm glad i watched that video; Any believablity that she had for me, is WAY GONE

Serious Question
In her Life, how many hours (total) has she spent with Donald Trump?
I'm about Mary's age...
I have one living uncle, in my life, i doubt i've spent 72 hours in the same house with him
(2 hours thanksgiving + 2 hours christmas) * 18 years
if you add up All my uncles (4 more), you could Probably add another 72 hours, total

HOW MANY TIMES, did Mary hear Donald Trump say "the n word"?
HOW MANY HOURS, TOTAL has she spent with him?

By the way: "When you ask a normal, right-handed person about something he's supposed to have seen,"...

No, those "clues" are do not indicate lying. Here are some completely, and amusingly, different body language "tips" from CIA agents.

They're all incorrect because:

"Research has consistently shown that people's ability to detect lies is no more accurate than chance, or flipping a coin. This finding holds across all types of people — students, psychologists, judges, job interviewers and law enforcement personnel (Personality and Social Psychology Review, 2006).
...
They examined behaviors such as posture shifts, gaze aversion, and foot and hand movements, without much success."

Frankly, this is standard Trump. He holds his fire, but will give as good as he gets. We have no way of knowing which of them is telling the truth, so I see no reason to assume the worst about the guy who didn't start the fight.

That observation has the same credibility with me as Mary's book. (I'm right handed and tend to look upward to my right to truly access my memory).

I listen to a bit of the interview. Caught the part about the older generations using racist terms. Maddow kept pressing. What word? Uncle Donald specifically? Did Uncle Donald say the word nigger?
Maddow got her to compose what Maddow wanted. The conclusions being crowed about today, are far afield from the books text. I would challenge anyone to find an honest 70 year old that did not sling about racist terms in the 50's/60's.

Lets not forget, Al Sharpton gave an award to President Trump for his exemplary work in Race Relations.
Also a very lengthy article in the NYT that found no evidence of racism in President Trumps past.

The things that get 35% of our nation all wrapped around the axle .... it’s amazing and sad.

An unsubstantiated allegation about any person using (or mentioning) a single word from 20+ years ago in a private conversation ... there is ZERO utility to any civic-minded individual here.

Look at all those qualifiers: unsubstantiated, use vs mention, too long ago to matter, private conversation. They need to ADDRESS all of those to have something interesting.

So Mary Trump — and the publisher, and every other slimy character associated with bringing this garbage to light — are too stupid to pay the slightest bit of attention to. And those who buy this garbage, well, at best they’re showing confirmation bias, and at worst ... fill in the blank.

Lloyd W. Robertson said...

So to speak everyone today--everyone with ambition--knows better than to use certain words. The situation was very different in the 60s (LBJ), and perhaps even more in the 50s. To say: there were people back then who used certain words, and that means today that they or their children should be disqualified from holding high office--doesn't even qualify as a fantasy.

Adlai Stevenson gave some hint he would campaign for civil rights for blacks in 1952. In 1956 he favoured implementing Brown v. Board as quickly as possible, probably without the use of federal troops, with lots of negotiation between whites and blacks, and no acceptance of the principle that southern states could opt out. This is a case where Ike could have used his authority and popularity better, instead of keeping his powder dry. Then again, he somewhat reluctantly did use federal troops at Little Rock.

At some point, you do have to answer what you consider a slur, even if it is being leveled by a family member. What if she had accused him of raping her? Would silence be appropriate? Where is the line?

In this particular case, I probably would have just said that she is making it up, and left it at that. I also noted the constant looking up and to the right- it is one the things I always look for when I am trying to determine if I am being lied to. However, there are claims that this isn't an effective way to lie detect. I do know that when I am trying to recall something, I do look up and to the left, but I also think I do that when I am trying to pretty much anything mental. Of course, the weakness of most such studies is that the people being videod are telling lies with no consequence- they know they are part of a study and have been told by the researchers to tell truths and untruths. There are also studies that claim to have studied historic instances where it is known the subjects were lying on camera, but then the word "known" is carrying a lot of weight.

And then there is the Costanza Rule- it isn't a lie if you believe it.

People like Maddow crave and claw for "racism" like a fix of crack. They can't resist it, or think of anything else.

Every Trump hater calls him a racist, but I never hear why he is. Some of the same people can say that science, logic, hard work, etc "white constructs" not within the nature of Blacks. That's what racism actually looks like, and it's worse than anything ever said about any group of people.

As an elite New York publisher, they've had an intense partnership with the Clintons that increasingly looks like illegal campaign contributions for a particular failure. The elite book publishers are a major source of power for the international left, and gatekeepers of knowledge generally- centralized, wealthy, and concentrated in a city that we've seen is particularly vulnerable to plague and crime. As seen from the NFL to Nick Cannon, there's a very substantial slice of black people who absolutely hate the Jews for a variety of reasons. I don't doubt that people who despise Bloomberg and his overt ownership of the Democrats would give Trump a second look solely based on that hatred.

NB: "If Bloomberg owned the Democrats, wouldn't he be their candidate?" is a question I expect the generally obtuse to persist in asking. You can consider Bloomberg's spectacular electoral failure to be part of a grand plan, but I do not. I think it's nothing simpler than the man's overarching desire to be a beloved, popular, and tall figure, which he was flattered into by his various sycophants. It's not enough to merely be an oligarch, he has to be loved for it. I would call it a sickness of his particular outgroup, but then Hillary Clinton had the disease even more deeply, and she was never truly a member of the same club.

On top of that, Trump has Japan ramping up military spending and offensive capabilities and Trump has rallied the Asian nations around China to confront ChiCom expansion in the South China Sea.

All on top of continued massive tariffs against the ChiComs, attacking the ChiCom's ability to hack the US, greasing the skids for companies to move supply chains out of China and into neighboring countries, etc.

This is a very powerful consequence of Barack Obama answer to the question of what is sin, to wit, "being out of alignment with my values."

Obviously this is very wicked and perverse. To such people, it must be very gratifying and thus compelling.

Francisco D: "It looks to me like Maddow regrets having this woman on her show because she is not at all believable."

After the hilarious tax returns episode (you have to pull up the Jimmy Dore takedown of that episode...and so many others as well) and the collapse of the obama/Hillary/Biden/comey/Brennan/Clapper/McCabe/Strzok/Page/Yates russia collusion hoax, what else is Maddow going to talk about?

Oh, I should note that Inga still believes in the russia collusion fantasy and the hoax dossier that Steele admitted in court is all a lie and for which the actual sub-source for the hoax dossier has had his testimony released where he completely blows it out of the water.

And screwing Mary and her brother out of her father’s share of the inheritance was unconscionable.

That's your opinion. Was it Fred Trump's to dispose of as he chose, or not? Spoiler alert: it was. I remember how you used to say, nobody knows what Mueller knows. Well, you don't know what Fred Trump knew.

I like the details in the CNN interview with Cuomo better, but go back and read the NYT series based on the 40,000 pages Mary released to the reporter to get a sense of how deep the corruption and deceit runs in the family.

Inga, this lady admits that her grandparents, especially Fred Sr., were not on good terms with her and her drunk dad. She was not getting that much anyway (still more than she deserves given this tell all grift).

Mary didn’t get her inheritance, her birthright, or didn’t get as much as she hoped? She got an Ivy degree, and a PhD in some kind of bullshit, so she’s still privileged. Too bad she’s from the weaker branch of the Trump family, but them’s the breaks.

Why do Lefties always feel entitled to our people's money?

Her father didn't have a "share" of the inheritance, because her grandfather didn't leave him one, as her grandfather was perfectly entitled to do. After all, that's why you write a will in the first place, to decide who gets what.

LOL

Ah yes. The "corruption".....that an army of DOJ/FBI/NSA/CIA operatives with an unlimited budget and unlimited access to all financial and business records across the globe of all Trump associates for the last 50 years couldn't find.

Let me guess, you agree with gadfly that the "next honest investigation" will surely come up with all the "proof" of this massive corruption that is lying about everywhere but yet somehow eludes the army of investigators looking into it all.

Yep, nothing insane about that kind of thinking r/v.

And while we are at it, can you share why you agreed with Crack that whites had invented slavery, murder, rape and lying and were at it for 300 years before any other humans started dabbling in it?

Well, that, or collusion, and the JournoLists were hooked, and the partisans came tumbling after.

Every Trump hater calls him a racist, but I never hear why he is.

They say he is a racist because he did not want Mexican rapists and gang members to come into this country.

Howabout just one page with actionable information on Trump's corruption and deceit?
Surely we can distill the 40,000 pages down to a single, provable accusation of something significant and illegal?

Let’s review the charges:

1a. Trump colluded with Putin to steal the election that Hillary! was entitled to win.

1b. Trump operatives colluded with Russian operatives to undermine the Hillary! campaign.

1c. Some people connected with the Trump campaign talked to some people who may have been connected to some Russians.

1d. Trump obstructed the Mueller investigation of 1a-c.

1e. Trump didn’t cooperate with the Mueller investigation of 1a-c.

2a. Trump abused his Presidential powers by withholding military aid from Ukraine to force them to investigate Biden’s son’s corrupt relationship with a Ukrainian company.

2b. Trump approved military aid to Ukraine and didn’t get any Ukrainian cooperation in investigating Biden or the Democrat Party (unlike Biden, whose threat to withhold aid succeeded in getting the Ukrainians to call off their investigation of Biden’s son’s company – This, by the way, is the best argument for Biden being better qualified to be President than Trump).

3. Trump’s niece claims that Trump’s father (her grandfather) deprived her family of the inheritance she thinks her family was entitled to, and also turned Trump into the most dangerous person in the world.

Isn't it clear YET that if you want to oppose Trump you need to do so on the issues?

Huh?! Unlike Althouse, Inga might throw you a fuck for white-knighting, but I doubt you'd find the juice to be worth the squeeze.

Pulitzer Prizes were awarded on Monday to news organizations that uncovered instances of malfeasance and outright fraud in President Trump’s financial past, recognizing journalists’ perseverance in the face of the president’s ever-sharper attacks on a free press.

Was Donald Trump executor of the will? That's the best way to cheat someone out of their inheritance. The executor can spend most of the inheritance on bogus expenses and debts and launder the money back into their own pocket. That's how we do it in my family./sarc

So if you know that you could just tell a few lies or exaggerate a little of your family history of people who never liked you anyway, and thereby earn a quick couple million, would you do it? Maybe a little tough to pass up considering the great cost/benefit ratio. Would you pay money to read such a thing? That's the tough one to justify.

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

I'm sure those Pulitzers are every bit as valid as the Pulitzers awarded for reporting on the hoax russian collusion lies that r/v pushed here as well, the Pulitzers awarded for the fake history 1619 project and the Pulitzer given to Walter Duranty who basically became a 1-man lie-fountain covering up Statin's mass murder.

Every bit as valid.
