There are some pictures of the dam that look like it has a bulge where the concrete has deformed. That looks pretty serious to me.

One of the reasons for the dam is because the Yangtze regularly floods and kills millions of Chinese when it does. For example, it flooded in 1931 and 150,000 people drowned. Total deaths from flood and aftermath may have been in the millions.

The flood of 1998 killed 4,000 or so.

And virtually ALL of our pharmaceuticals come from China, though I did not know how much from Yangtze.

You need a Tylenol? It will likely come from Puerto Rico or Lancaster PA. But the acetaminophen active ingredient comes from China 100%.

No Acetaminophen, no tylenol. And a lot of other much more critical drugs too.

As a matter of national security we need to reshore our pharma industry ASAP.

Even if the dam does hold and even if it doesn't wipe out the supply chain, China can stop the flow at any time. "Hey, US, you want to complain about the Uighar genocide? NO DRUGS FOR YOU!!!"

That applies both to the person wearing the mask and the other people who are supposed to be protected.

Most of these N-95 masks have a vent in them. While most of the air breathed in is filtered for very large particulates, NONE of the exhaled air goes through the filter. It ALL goes straight out the vent.

Those flat paper masks? Some filtration for very large particulates but 98% of the exhalation goes out the sides and top.

Through NV the rate of mask-wearing seemed to decline as I went northward. Idaho about 50%. Wyoming, I saw no one wearing a mask. Same in most of Montana. Washington state is pretty stringent, mostly due to strict state laws. It would be interesting to find out how the virus is really transmitted. ;-); 7/18/20, 10:32 PM

Let's do some math. Let's say 10,000 nursing home patients died, and they average 2 years in the home if they don't die of COVID. That around probably 10k x $50k x 2 in cost directly to the state- or $1 billion dollars on Medicaid expenditures alone out of NY's pocket. So, within a magnitude, definitely.; 7/18/20, 10:45 PM

I wasn't getting much traction, then I realized I had the perfect example: hydroxychloroquine. The press went all-in on condemning this 65-year-old drug because Trump said it looked promising. As a result, some states even banned it's used! Well:

At this point, treating with HCQ + azythromycin (sp?) + zinc at earliest possible time from onset of symptoms shows uniformly excellent results with very little side effects, which makes sense because the course of treatment is so short. The graph that leads off that Twitter thread is really striking.

Yet here in the US, there are still millions of people who wouldn't take HCQ if it was prescribed for them, just because Trump talked about it. That's insane.

If the we had an honest media, and a more mature political class, things would be going so much better. Things are actually not going so badly now -- AZ hospitalizations have peaked, and cases are falling as well. Viruses are gonna virus, and we ARE getting through this. Early treatment can drastically reduce deaths and the number of people suffering long-term effects. With that knowledge, state and local governments should be able to encourage citizens that it's OK to open up, but because everything is so politicized here, they won't. Many feel it's to their political advantage to stay shut down until the election, even though that makes no sense at all.

And, knowing the HCQ + Az + Zinc treatment protocol is so effective should calm the fears of parents, teachers, and administrators about the re-opening of schools.

Generally the Nationalists come across as no-nonsense professionals, but...
