"Rapid border closures, full lockdowns, and wide-spread testing were not associated with COVID-19 mortality per million people. However, full lockdowns and reduced country vulnerability to biological threats (i.e. high scores on the global health security scale for risk environment) were significantly associated with increased patient recovery rates."
That is from the Lancet study of Winnie Xi Flu patients.
What that means is rich countries have better recovery rates. So what's day we don't impoverish ourselves by crushing our own economies?
I've been calculating death rates for all the US states and the Northeast has by far the highest rate of COVID fatality: NY 7.5%, NJ 8.5%, MA 7.4%, RI 5.5%, CT 9.1%, NH 6.4%, PA 6.6%. While the media have hammered the 'surge' of cases in CA and AZ, the death rates are still only 1.9% and 2.0%, respectively. The non-northeastern state with the highest mortality rate for COVID is MI with 7.6%.

A study vindicates one of Althouse’s theories. https://twitter.com/DegenRolf/status/1286312213486108673
A concern troll ignores The Lancet study.

And, BTW, the COVID death rate for 'exemplary' Sweden is 7.2% compared to the US 3.6%.

Thanks for that!

Good stuff.
Estimated 200,000 mask wearers to reduce infections by 1 per week.
So if we get 300 million Americans to wear masks, we might stop 1500 infections.

Remind me which commenters wanted to threaten state force against free citizens to require doing something really ineffective.
