I didn't watch Trump's walk to the Church and subsequent holding of a Bible as he makes an address. Trump doesn't strike me as a particularly religious person, so I assumed that it was done probably entirely for symbolism and persuasion. I didn't think it would be particularly effective.

If Democrats are now planning similar staged events, they must be worried that Trump's specific action was effective. They must be worried that Trump is looking like he has the moral high ground. And Democrats are generally incapable of campaigning as the Super Ego party. They basically can only do Republicans are icky and evil, and mean and racist bad guys and we're the nice good guys.

And I think emotionally this takes some wind out of the sails of the protests. It makes the entire incident seem less like an easy win for the Democrats politically. None of my urban houses are close to Walmarts. It’s even very hard to find normal fast food places in my cities. But, my sub-places (and even some of my country places, considering that 30 miles means only thirty minutes) are thick w/ fast food and ChiComResaleMarts.

Anywho, I don’t like going to Walmart because doing so makes me think about despair, as I see it. But, I try to tell myself that the seemingly pitiful staff and customers are actually fulfilled w/ what they gots. What more can a person ask for?

P.S. Today it doesn’t help that I saw the WaPo piece re the Walmart family giving zero dough re all this stuff going on. They didn’t even do the Rupert weasel act. It seems sorta gross to become rich by selling foreign made crap at the same time you’re also creating a substantial mass of poorly compensated and cared for American staff. It is also uncomfortable for me when I see that it seems like a fair number of the Walmart customers are gluttonous and/or unsuccessful.

P.S. I have seen on the Tok that Walmart is replacing humans w/ robots. There are videos of folks who strategically place four small boxes on the floor space around one of these robots such that the robot can’t move. If Walmart can overcome this sorta problem and eventually get rid of all the staff w/ sad lives, I’d be more comfortable going to the stores.

How arrogant. The house that we just left in PHX was a couple blocks from a Walmart. Used to be a 24 hour one. That was phenomenal for us. Whatever we needed, 5 minutes away. Unfortunately the neighborhood deteriorated a bit, as it filled in, and the security costs didn’t justiy the extra costs. So, they now run 6am to midnight. Good prices still on most of what we needed on a day by day basis.

I didn’t see the despair that you talk about there. Got to know a number of the employees a little, and they were just fine. Sure, they weren’t getting rich. But we’re, for the most part reasonably happy. Got to know esp one of the greeters, a black man about my age, who talked to all the kids, and knew all their mothers. We would bring him our bread loaves from Olive Garden, which aren’t on my diet (not his either, but...)

Here, in rural MT, the minimal requirement for us staying anywhere overnight is a Walmart (Costco’s are nice, despite their absurd PC masking requirements, but Walmart’s are the requirement). We have five of them within two hours, the closest (Sandpoint ID) is 80 miles away. Amazing how often we run into people we know there, also from our town in MT. I remember running into a gay guy I know there in the gun section before they went PC and quit selling self defense ammunition), right after the Pulse Nightclub killings. Long talk about why gays needed to arm up, without, of course, him ever admitting that he was gay. Which is the way it is there - no one cares, as long as you don’t make it a big thing.

Another thing though about Walmart’s failure to properly virtue signal. They are already probably the biggest employer of Blacks, outside governments, in this country. Plenty of Blacks and Hispanics sure worked at the one by our old house. The employees there corresponded well to the demographics of their clientele and the surrounding community - about 60% non White - mostly either Black or Hispanic. Moreover, their rural, and much of their suburban, clientele would have little patience with them pandering to BLM and AntiFA terrorists. There are very good reasons why the terrorists are sticking to downtown areas - because their life expectancies would plummet if they ventured out too far. (Rumors the other night what the terrorists tearing up Spokane would branch out into nearby Coeur d’Alene brought out dozens of armed residents, to patrol the area.
