I can think of no better metaphor for this presidency than Donald Trump not wearing a face mask to a face mask factory while the song “Live and Let Die” blares in the background. pic.twitter.com/mJzU1HW7HA

how DARE he!
look at the other people in that pic! They're ALL wearing masks... Oh wait a minute
Never Mind
Everyone should read Poe’s “Masque of the arid Death.” Extremely allegorical and timely. And brilliant.
I'm fascinated by the intellect which proposes the President, a germ phobic, is not attended to by constant medical attention in a pandemic.
I’m curious whether Kimmel thinks anyone there would actually be safer if the president were wearing a mask, or whether this is just another chance to complain.
I’m for wearing masks when it is likely to actually help. I’m against shaming people on general principle for not wearing them. If you want to bitch about someone not wearing a mask, I want to see / hear exactly who’s going to get infected and how.
When controlling for the differences in population across states, the number of deaths from coronavirus is over three times higher in states with Democratic governors than in states with Republican governors.
Any sentence that begins, "I can think of no better metaphor than..." will end in disappointment. Also, anything written or said after, "It goes without saying..." can be ignored. Especially if it begins with, "Of course."
Marie Antoinette Lives!
Yeah, well, metaphorically speaking, Jimmy Kimmel is not the sharpest knife in the drawer, if you get my drift.
Surgeons wear masks, because they don't wanna accidentally infect the patient (ask Doc K).
Painters and asbestos workers wear masks, because they don't wanna inhale toxic dust or fumes.
Healthy people don't normally wear masks around other healthy people, doofus.
Maybe because he gets tested everyday?? but don't let little things like that get in the way of Kimmels everyday complaints about anything this man does. Jimmy should go back to watching girls jump up and down braless on trampolines. It's more his wavelength.....
Masks protect the people around you from YOU, not you from the other people...or so we are told.
Masks = “are you with us or against us!?”
Trump is probably the least likely person in America to have the virus.
He didn't wear a mask at a mask factory. That's what they have on Hitler.
Strange that Jimmy didn't notice that no one was wearing a face mask in that picture. Including (presumably) a guy or two who worked there.
Just shows you how blind lefties are when it comes to Trump.
Who is the idiot behind him not wearing safety goggles?
Yeah...and where is his hazmat suit, surgical gloves, shoe booties, vapor mask? AND hard hat. You always wear a hard hat when you are within 500 yards of a construction site if you are a politician.
Maybe he doesn't dress that way because he isn't a politician and has some common sense. Is supposed to be in a sanitary facility. Is a business man who gets things done.
Come on---dress accordingly....because.....because.....we are all gonna die....aaaaaaagh!!!! or...oh nevermind.
Bunch of Chicken Littles.
If there are any big spikes in cases, this is not going to be a good look.
Pence got his wife to play dumb on Fox and insist he didn't know Mayo required masks when he visited, I don't think Melania is likely to do that in this case.
"He wore goggles. To keep his tears off you."
The tears come from standing in a factory in the United States that is actually up and running.
I am Laslo.
@Big Mike - I am gonna guess that even in Republican states, more Democrats are dying than Republicans. This is unbearably sad. Oh, and the notorious RBG is apparently at the ball with the Reaper again.
These people who laugh at other people for not wearing face masks don't know what the masks are for. They protect others from being sneezed at by you. If you don't have a sneeze, you don't need your mask.
Unforced error by Trump
Donald Trump not wearing a face mask to a face mask factory
He also visited an Apple factory in Austin without wearing a computer.
Strange that Jimmy didn't notice that no one was wearing a face mask in that picture.
The guy at the machine was wearing a blue mask - while making white masks.
perhaps they can impeach him again?
I’m skeptical that A wearing a mask or even better some gauzy scarf is going to protect B from infection if A is not actively coughing and sneezing and they are several feet apart. The public sure has bought it though! Because now not wearing a bandana over one’s face = your exhalations are literally a threat to my life!
Live and let die.
So what?
The collective left are pretending death wasn't ever a thing.
Yeah...and where is his hazmat suit, surgical gloves, shoe booties, vapor mask? AND hard hat. You always wear a hard hat when you are within 500 yards of a construction site if you are a politician.
Everyone else (even Trump) is wearing safety goggles. I assume that anyone on the factory floor is required to wear safety glasses. That is a pretty standard requirement, and not at all unreasonable, when you are working around machines. Eye injuries are serious and easily preventable.
"To keep his tears off you."
Everybody knows Trump doesn't do tears, the heartless SOB.
Anyway, among healthy people, the mask thing is Virus Theater.
Old and sick people should stay out of the way in any case.
In this instance, Trump is risking his life, an old man venturing out for our sake. Well, PR sake.
It's a good joke for Kimmel, but that's not better than nothing.
Kimmel's audience has the same intellectual capacity and self-awareness as Kimmel. They think he's funny and really, really smart.
Healthy people don't normally wear masks around other healthy people,
that attitude is SO Early Twenty-First century!
In Our MODERN Times Wearing a mask shows that the wearer is VOLUNTARILY stifling his own FREEDOM
ps. Thanx HOWARD! now, i am COMPELLED to use ALL CAPS on random WORDS!

I similarly have a problem with the word “obviously” in front of a sentence. And I always read it in my head in a sarcastic tone.
Appeal to authority:
• "Centers for Disease Control and Prevention does not recommend that people who are well wear a face mask (including respirators) to protect themselves from respiratory diseases, including COVID-19."
• "US Surgeon General urged people on Twitter to stop buying face masks."
We make a point of switching away from ABC when the 11 pm news is over, but occasionally we accidentally see a couple minutes. Since he has been doing his show from home, Kimmel, without a live audience of trained seals to respond to him, has ceased even trying to be funny with his bad Trump jokes. He has turned into a lecturer, who uses his opening monologue to just spew Trump hatred. I can't imagine who at this point tunes in eagerly to watch this dreck.
In Our MODERN Times Wearing a mask shows that the wearer is VOLUNTARILY stifling his own FREEDOM
This has got to be one of the more ridiculous things ever written on this blog.
Does Kimmel wear a mask while interviewing anyone?
Serious Question
Freder?
What do YOU think that wearing a mask means today?
@BigMike, I would think you'd have to control for the time of the first cases. It seems like COVID hit Democratic states first.
Any sentence that begins, "I can think of no better metaphor than..." will end in disappointment. Also, anything written or said after, "It goes without saying..." can be ignored. Especially if it begins with, "Of course."
I would add: Any sentence that has the word 'could' in it should be followed by the phrase: '..or it might not'
This has got to be one of the more ridiculous things ever written on this blog.
Nobody can touch you for ridiculous things written here.
Oh, and masks are theater, just like the TSA.
Watch the contextual detail of this extended video B-role of Trump's walking tour through the facility with the press.
Trump assiduously stays within the yellow tape areas and is invited to the green bin area (still within the tape) by the Honeywell tour guide.
Lots of other small details to pick up on.
Other songs include House of the Rising Sun and Tiny Dancer.
I think this is very different from when Pence was near sick people in a hospital. Just sayin'.
Kimmel being a State-fellator, he probably wishes "Live and Let Die" was the anthem of The Hive, given the Democide that is one of the leading consequences of statism.
I'm not a Trump fan, but even I understand that criticizing literally everything he does is a mugs game. Eventually, folks just start tuning you out and you end up convincing no one. Kimmel (the man formally known as Ben Stein's sidekick) doesn't understand that his audience hit peak Trump hatred about 3 years ago.
What a shame. Kimmel used to be the rare sane person in Hollywood.
Funny. I hear "Live and Let Die" as the anthem of Ian Fleming's Bond, an anonymous schlub of a Scot who isn't even especially happy to be "Her Majesty's blunt instrument," and really would prefer to just settle down with wife Tracy. But then the world would be at significantly greater risk of going to hell in a handbasket. So Commander Bond does his job. And he is exceedingly good at it.
WHO, are you?
WHO, WHO
WHO, are you?
WHO, WHO
WHO: No evidence wearing a mask can protect healthy people from coronavirus
The World Health Organization (WHO) says healthy people don’t need to wear face masks to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, and masks should only be for those who are sick, their caretakers and health care workers.
In guidance released by WHO Monday, the United Nations public health agency said “there is currently no evidence that wearing a mask (whether medical or other types) by healthy persons in the wider community setting, including universal community masking, can prevent them from infection with respiratory viruses, including COVID-19.”
Yancey Ward: What a shame. Kimmel used to be the rare sane person in Hollywood.
When he was the sidekick on "Win Ben Stein's Money," I really appreciated that he always seemed to be laughing with the contestants, not at them. And frankly, the contrast with successor Nancy Pimental couldn't have been more stark.
But once he got in front of the stock LA TV audience, it was straight into the partisan ghetto. I only blame Kimmel a little, though. The environment is corrosive, toxic. Getting out of LA after 25 years was the best decision I ever made, and it isn't a close race.
No one else is wearing a mask, so it obviously was not required. In fact, believe it or not, a CNN reporter actually wasted everyone's time by asking Trump -before he left DC - if he would wear a mask at the factory. Trump said "Yes - if its required".
So the meme went out from the DNC to Jimmy Kimmel, the MSM, and the entertainment industry. Attack Trump on mask wearing. Its all coordinated.
Michael K said... Oh, and masks are theater, just like the TSA.
My wife and I wear them for virtue signaling.
They serve no other purpose except to give Jimmy "Karen" Kimmel a soapbox.
What is needed are MAGA masks. I am sure you can buy them on-line already.
"Live and Let Die" is actually appropriate. We have a nation of elderly boomers so desperate to keep living that they're willing to destroy the economy to protect themselves.
Every year, the flu sweeps through the rest homes with its deadly harvest, but we don't trash peoples' lives over it.
Be like Nike: Just Die It.
Prudent and bold. The masks are to mitigate transmission of the virus and mitigate reception of a viral load.
What is Kimmel's problem? It's obvious from what he says and does every day/night that he wants Trump dead.
Yes to Wendybar at 8:07AM!
Antifa used to wear a lotta masks --perhaps they were ahead of their time.
Should we all join Antifa?
Retro smoke-free random anime chill bar.
That don't look too random to me gilbar.
The first one was so funny I left it up there
Donald Trump has gotten doc Mike to go full quack. That's sad, never go full quack.
By November, every public figure who let themselves be photographed masked will be receiving some degree of mockery for it. Memes in the making. Justifiably or not, in retrospect it will inevitably be associated with panic and overreaction. The smart politician will avoid wearing a mask in public like the plague.

Between the two, Kimmel did The Man Show with Adam Carolla. To see him go from that to crying on TV while making a plea for CHIP funding is quite something. Norm MacDonald use to say he found it strange people would assume he knew anything about politics because he hosted Weekend Update. But with the success of Bill Maher and Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert has turned talk show hosts into political satirists. Bad ones. Kimmel isn't even trying to make a joke. He's just being derisive. The last person who ever brought anything interest to late night was Craig Ferguson. He took over the Late Late Show from Craig Kilborn, who hosted The Daily Show before Jon Stewart.

Says the alleged Marine who does not know that heel spurs are disqualifying. Did you really enlist, Howard ?
I assume you read enough non DNC propaganda to know that 85% of tests of TSA ability to detect bombs and guns are failures . Right ?
Fake news. Trump's split explained that the top executive of the plant told Trump that he need not wear a mask inside the factory.
Of course, facts don't matter because .... Orange Man Bad
That should be spox. Spell check.
I bought one of these things just in case I actually need a mask anywhere.
Like next month when I fly.
Kimmel engaging in self intercourse.
Kimmel was funnier when he dressed in blackface imitating Karl Malone.
Masque of the arid Death
Drought?
******
When Kimmel does his quarantine videos, does he set up the camera and sound himself? If he has a crew, or even one other person helping, then why isn't he wearing a mask?

Michael K, if Howard said he had heel spurs, the medical kind, not the 'Somatic Symptom Disorder' kind. Whether he enlisted or got drafted, he would've been rejected by the services for the medically defined "heel spurs". End of story.
zampolit moye has been upbraided by the texas governor, and atty general, for trying to make the hairdresser a thought criminal
Michael K said... Oh, and masks are theater, just like the TSA.

There is an aspect of theater about the masks, and also virtue signaling. However, masks are not just theater. That's a silly thing to say. If we'd all been like the little old Asian ladies in Chinatown and put on masks back in January or early February here in NYC, we'd probably have a much better situation here. And masks will be integral to controlling the spread of the virus in densely populated areas as we re-open the economy. That's not just theater, that's how the subway and the crowds in Grand Central and Port Authority turn from daily super-spreader events back into transportation hubs for humans, not viruses.
"...here in NYC..."
Nobody denies this. But it's theater where 75% of the country lives. And to pretend otherwise is silly.
And masks will be integral to controlling the spread of the virus in densely populated areas as we re-open the economy.
And the TSA stops terrorist bombs. Except that 85% of the time, when tested, the TSA fails.
I spent 50 years wearing a mask in surgery to avoid contaminating a patient. We all did but, if you really wanted to be sterile, you used a "greenhouse" room and wore space suits. That was for total joint surgery.
I see virology people supporting everyone wearing masks but the data is just not there.
if Howard said he had heel spurs, the medical kind, not the 'Somatic Symptom Disorder' kind. Whether he enlisted or got drafted, he would've been rejected by the services for the medically defined "heel spurs". End of story.
Inaccurate story. The heel walk was to see if it hurt. Lots of people with heel spurs don't know they have them. Plantar fasciitis hurts and it is pretty obvious to anyone who has it. Not all heel spurs cause symptoms until you walk on your heels.
Every time I think Althouse couldn’t get more obtuse, she gets more obtuse by posting this and thinking her comment is clever.
either that or she’s dumb enough to think a moron like Kimmel is clever.
Eye protection is required on a factory floor where machinery is in use. All across the country.
By the way, those aren’t goggles, those are the large safety glasses, plastic actually, which are standard handouts to visitors in a production facility. The guy in the middle rear appears to me to be wearing his own glasses, but when I blow up the picture I can’t be certain of that.
Jimmy Kimmel...let's see...mmmm...yeah...
No.
So how would you articulate the metaphor?
