Everyone should read Poe’s “Masque of the arid Death.” Extremely allegorical and timely. And brilliant.

I'm fascinated by the intellect which proposes the President, a germ phobic, is not attended to by constant medical attention in a pandemic.

I’m curious whether Kimmel thinks anyone there would actually be safer if the president were wearing a mask, or whether this is just another chance to complain.

I’m for wearing masks when it is likely to actually help. I’m against shaming people on general principle for not wearing them. If you want to bitch about someone not wearing a mask, I want to see / hear exactly who’s going to get infected and how.

Yeah, well, metaphorically speaking, Jimmy Kimmel is not the sharpest knife in the drawer, if you get my drift.

Surgeons wear masks, because they don't wanna accidentally infect the patient (ask Doc K).

Painters and asbestos workers wear masks, because they don't wanna inhale toxic dust or fumes.

Healthy people don't normally wear masks around other healthy people, doofus.

wendybar said...

Maybe because he gets tested everyday?? but don't let little things like that get in the way of Kimmels everyday complaints about anything this man does. Jimmy should go back to watching girls jump up and down braless on trampolines. It's more his wavelength.....

Yeah...and where is his hazmat suit, surgical gloves, shoe booties, vapor mask? AND hard hat. You always wear a hard hat when you are within 500 yards of a construction site if you are a politician.

Maybe he doesn't dress that way because he isn't a politician and has some common sense. Is supposed to be in a sanitary facility. Is a business man who gets things done.

Come on---dress accordingly....because.....because.....we are all gonna die....aaaaaaagh!!!! or...oh nevermind.

Bunch of Chicken Littles.

Everyone else (even Trump) is wearing safety goggles. I assume that anyone on the factory floor is required to wear safety glasses. That is a pretty standard requirement, and not at all unreasonable, when you are working around machines. Eye injuries are serious and easily preventable.

I similarly have a problem with the word “obviously” in front of a sentence. And I always read it in my head in a sarcastic tone.

We make a point of switching away from ABC when the 11 pm news is over, but occasionally we accidentally see a couple minutes. Since he has been doing his show from home, Kimmel, without a live audience of trained seals to respond to him, has ceased even trying to be funny with his bad Trump jokes. He has turned into a lecturer, who uses his opening monologue to just spew Trump hatred. I can't imagine who at this point tunes in eagerly to watch this dreck.

Other songs include House of the Rising Sun and Tiny Dancer.

I'm not a Trump fan, but even I understand that criticizing literally everything he does is a mugs game. Eventually, folks just start tuning you out and you end up convincing no one. Kimmel (the man formally known as Ben Stein's sidekick) doesn't understand that his audience hit peak Trump hatred about 3 years ago.

Funny. I hear "Live and Let Die" as the anthem of Ian Fleming's Bond, an anonymous schlub of a Scot who isn't even especially happy to be "Her Majesty's blunt instrument," and really would prefer to just settle down with wife Tracy. But then the world would be at significantly greater risk of going to hell in a handbasket. So Commander Bond does his job. And he is exceedingly good at it.

WHO: No evidence wearing a mask can protect healthy people from coronavirus

The World Health Organization (WHO) says healthy people don’t need to wear face masks to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, and masks should only be for those who are sick, their caretakers and health care workers.

In guidance released by WHO Monday, the United Nations public health agency said “there is currently no evidence that wearing a mask (whether medical or other types) by healthy persons in the wider community setting, including universal community masking, can prevent them from infection with respiratory viruses, including COVID-19.”

Yancey Ward: What a shame. Kimmel used to be the rare sane person in Hollywood.

When he was the sidekick on "Win Ben Stein's Money," I really appreciated that he always seemed to be laughing with the contestants, not at them. And frankly, the contrast with successor Nancy Pimental couldn't have been more stark.

But once he got in front of the stock LA TV audience, it was straight into the partisan ghetto. I only blame Kimmel a little, though. The environment is corrosive, toxic. Getting out of LA after 25 years was the best decision I ever made, and it isn't a close race.

No one else is wearing a mask, so it obviously was not required. In fact, believe it or not, a CNN reporter actually wasted everyone's time by asking Trump -before he left DC - if he would wear a mask at the factory. Trump said "Yes - if its required".

So the meme went out from the DNC to Jimmy Kimmel, the MSM, and the entertainment industry. Attack Trump on mask wearing. Its all coordinated.

Between the two, Kimmel did The Man Show with Adam Carolla. To see him go from that to crying on TV while making a plea for CHIP funding is quite something. Norm MacDonald use to say he found it strange people would assume he knew anything about politics because he hosted Weekend Update. But with the success of Bill Maher and Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert has turned talk show hosts into political satirists. Bad ones. Kimmel isn't even trying to make a joke. He's just being derisive. The last person who ever brought anything interest to late night was Craig Ferguson. He took over the Late Late Show from Craig Kilborn, who hosted The Daily Show before Jon Stewart.

Michael K, if Howard said he had heel spurs, the medical kind, not the 'Somatic Symptom Disorder' kind. Whether he enlisted or got drafted, he would've been rejected by the services for the medically defined "heel spurs". End of story.

There is an aspect of theater about the masks, and also virtue signaling. However, masks are not just theater. That's a silly thing to say. If we'd all been like the little old Asian ladies in Chinatown and put on masks back in January or early February here in NYC, we'd probably have a much better situation here. And masks will be integral to controlling the spread of the virus in densely populated areas as we re-open the economy. That's not just theater, that's how the subway and the crowds in Grand Central and Port Authority turn from daily super-spreader events back into transportation hubs for humans, not viruses.

Birkel said...

"...here in NYC..."

Nobody denies this. But it's theater where 75% of the country lives. And to pretend otherwise is silly.

Michael K said...

And masks will be integral to controlling the spread of the virus in densely populated areas as we re-open the economy.

And the TSA stops terrorist bombs. Except that 85% of the time, when tested, the TSA fails.

I spent 50 years wearing a mask in surgery to avoid contaminating a patient. We all did but, if you really wanted to be sterile, you used a "greenhouse" room and wore space suits. That was for total joint surgery.

I see virology people supporting everyone wearing masks but the data is just not there.

Michael K said...

Inaccurate story. The heel walk was to see if it hurt. Lots of people with heel spurs don't know they have them. Plantar fasciitis hurts and it is pretty obvious to anyone who has it. Not all heel spurs cause symptoms until you walk on your heels.
