Some diagnosis. "Well, it's either your ankle or your heart. We need to do a few more tests."

Too bad Un whacked the brother who tried to go to Disney World. By Kim standards, he may have been an actual human being capable of being a non-homicidal totalitarian maniac.

Couldn't read the article. Why would South Korean officials be forced to deny the rumors?

So South Korea is now acting as the press office for North Korea?

The Kims have done what was once thought impossible: created a communist monarchy.

While I'm skeptical of reports that Kim Jong-un is gravely ill/dying/dead/whatever, I'm also skeptical of any news that we get from the Moon Jae-in administration. If you recall, back when Trump was actively meeting with Kim, Moon was constantly making statements about how North Korea was going to agree to this and that that the North Korean representatives then had to correct. This administration is not a trustworthy voice on North Korean matters.

I think the word to use would be 肅清 (숙청/sookcheong), or "purge."

I don't think the Mafia has ever produced any Lincolnesque bosses. I don't expect the Kim family to produce Gorbachev, but their current leader seems remarkably stupid.....Did you ever notice those pictures of Kim taken at public events. The people in the background are in awe of him. Some of them are in tears just to be near the great man. I don't think they're putting it on. Not much of a government, but this has to be the most successful cult in world history.

the leadership structure is byzantine, I learned that from a Robert Kaplan piece in the atlantic around 2013

The Forbes article mentions possible successors as Kim's sister, aunt, and estranged brother. Not a good sign for the family.

And, as mentioned above, why "forced"? Odd choice of words.

I rejoiced when Kim Il-Sung died. I was glad when Kim Jong-Il died.

Now, I know that if Kim Jong-Un dies, he'll just be replaced by another evil dictator.
