"He said, 'Who the hell are you?! I can do what I want!'... He just ranted, screaming, 'I’ll find out who you are!'"

"I said to him, 'Your brother is the coronavirus czar, and you’re not even following his rules — unnecessary travel'... He just began to boil more. He said, "This is not the end of this. You’ll deal with this later. We will meet again." If that’s not a threat, I don’t know what is... I hate bullies."

Said the fat-tire biker identified as "David," quoted in "‘I hate bullies’: Bicyclist verbally attacked by Chris Cuomo fires back" (NY Post).

David is a resident of the town, and he was able to accuse Cuomo of "unnecessary travel," because there is no residence built on the property Cuomo owns there, just a steel frame. And Cuomo was — according to David — hanging out with his wife, another woman and 3 kids. That's not following the rules!

Looks like Fredo will get the death penalty. He's out fishing on a boat and then just disappears. "You're my brother and I love you. But don't ever go against the family."

Don't you see? Fredo is far above us plebes. He's very important. He's a celebrity and the brother of the Governor after all. The rules shouldn't apply to him obviously. If he gives you Covid-19 you should just be honored to die by his hand.

This is much more complicated. More nuanced. See, when you live in a human ant colony the way New Yorkers do you instinctively become a giant ass when people happen to intersect with what you're doing as you climb over each other on whichever mission the dots-and-dashes told you to go on. Fredo can't be faulted for his behavior, it's 2nd nature. It's insect politics.

"You wanted a good time; 'they', meaning the Party, wanted to stop you having it; you broke the rules as best you could. She seemed to think it just as natural that 'they' should want to rob you of your pleasures as that you should want to avoid being caught. She hated the Party, and said so in the crudest words, but she made no general criticism of it."

Chris Cuomo just comes across as a jackass here and many other times.

Let's assume the details of the confrontation are in dispute - though Cuomo's own words tend to support the Biker's retelling.

There's no dispute Cuomo has Covid-19 and was out and about with others. Wtf is that about. He's not even protecting his own family let alone friends and the public?

In all likelihood Fredo got the virus by not following the rules, so what's the risk to him now? Risk to others? Yeah, that's a concern.

With progs, it's never the end of this. They'll always deal with opposition "later." They will always meet us again. Bullying is their MO.

"And Cuomo was — according to David — hanging out with his wife, another woman and 3 kids. That's not following the rules!"

Rules, schmules. Rules are for little people. The point of progressivism is to make the rules, not follow them.

If we had an actual quarantine, this would be less likely happen.

The threat of "I'll find out who you are!" is the interesting one to me.

The assumption is that once he finds out, he's going to do something awful. Like using the vast resources of CNN to destroy an individual's privacy.

Hmm. Maybe he doesn't believe the disease is as serious as he and his cohorts in the media are telling us it is. It's like global warming; our "betters" want us to panic about rising sea-levels while they buy ocean-front property. We're supposed to cower at home while Cuomo is out strolling in the Hamptons.

My bull-shit detector is going off.

I for one am not convinced Chris Cuomo really has/had COVID-19.

He looked too healthy during his broadcasts from his basement quarantine even as he described raging fever and shaking chills and loss of 15 lb. Then there was the chest X-ray Cuomo claimed showed Coronavirus floating around. The chest x-ray was normal.

So when Cuomo was recognized out and about with kids, wife, and female friend his fake Coronavirus story was exposed.

I incline to the Martha theory, based mostly on my priors about Cuomo and CNN. “Look at me” followed by “my experience as a victim of this disease”. The incentives are high, the scruples low.

Enforce the stupid - and in many cases unconstitutional - rules with blind power.

That is the best way forward to get the rules overturned.
I would like to return to the rule of law.
Passed by legislatures.
Signed by executives.
And challenged in courts, if individual liberty is constrained unduly.

Janetchick said...

I agree with Martha theory too. I looked up when he announced he had tested positive for it and that was March 31, so he should have been quarantined on April 13. What’s even weirder I saw article in USA Today, today, which states “Cuomo has been isolated in his family’s basement for the 15 days since he tested positive for Covid-19”. Guess those news folks don’t read the news.

I’m not fond of busybodies but I would wonder about seeing someone I knew had Covid 19 out and about. I probably would not say anything. I’m a silent seether, non confrontational.

Janetchick said...

Oh, and Cuomo says in interview that he has not gone 72 hours without fever, which is the way to get sprung from quarantine after 7 day minimum of isolation.

David is a bit of a "Karen," n'est-ce pas?

Fat-tire bikes, like all bikes I guess, can either be moderately priced or expensive. Some are even electric. I wonder a little whether the guy was riding the $249 model or the $2499 model, and also whether David was wearing a helmet (probably) and a mask (probably), but I can live without knowing the answers.

"I'm not a COVID virus victim, but I play one on TV." That's probably Occam's solution to this whole thing. Now, about that radio interview where he didn't mean what he didn't say. Pleading in the alternative: its not just for lawyers anymore.

If I saw someone whom I understood to be under quarantine for Covid, what else could I do? Would it be fair to expect the police to cuff him and put him in the back of the squad car?

Damn right I'd yell at him, from a good distance. I'd also take a picture and email it to my neighbors.

Of course, if he were a celebrity, he could call me names and smear me all over the country. That would be entirely fair, right?

Martha said...

RobinGoodfellow is right —most people with the virus are asymptomatic.

But Chris Cuomo went into great detail about how much he suffered while infected with Coronavirus—fever of 103 degrees, shivering so severe he chipped a tooth, hallucinations, weight loss of 15 lb. Cuomo was describing his symptoms live and in real time, an unprecedented move among network anchors, all the while looking more like TV anchor than a sick man.

But if he claims he has it he’s still under the isolation order. So he's a double douche that way.

But I do think this is a fraud, a kind of “stolen valor”. Gets attention now, gets to 0lay the “I had it card” later.

Bet he didn’t take chloroquine.

@Althouse, by the way you and over sixty million other voters voted in 2016, you signaled to the Cuomo brothers and many other Democrats that there are three sets of rules: one for Trump and other prominent Republicans, a slightly less stringent set for ordinary people (non-politicians), and “if it feels good, do it” for prominent Democrats. Isn’t it a little late to worry about all this now?

Maillard Reactionary said...

F!ck the rules that only apply to me. I'm done with them.

Cuomo is a putz. Oh excuse me, I mean Fredo is a putz. Although, sadly, unlikely to meet a fate similar to that of the cinematic Fredo. Because this is reality, not the movies. Nobody would pay money to go through this.

Fernandistein appropriately quotes Ben Franklin (one of my favorite 18th Century characters) at 1:10 PM. How quickly we forget hard lessons learned in the past, how long we (or our grandchildren) will regret our current folly.

SweatBee said...

"Most people with the virus are asymptomatic."

Depends on your age group. I believe most kids are asymptomatic or have mild symptoms, but overall the percentage is lower.

Even so, Cuomo has been on TV telling us about his alleged raging symptoms ("I shook so hard from the chills that I chipped my expensive dental work!").

Oh wait ... now, once Chris Cuomo was caught out with his wife and kids by the fat tire bike dude, now she reports that she too has the herps.

https://www.cnn.com/2020/04/15/us/chris-cuomo-wife-coronavirus/index.html

That's convenient. Only yesterday, she was fine. Now, at almost midnight, she's reporting that she too has the herps.

I strongly think that Chris needs to get her on camera at 8pm to detail her misery.

Buckwheathikes said...

Fredo harangues is every day on the tube. In my case mostly 2nd hand via blogs like this.

If I ever get a chance you betcha I'm gonna give him a piece of my mind.

Especially if I see him flouting the rules like this. But even if just on an elevator.

Just because he harangues me from a tv and it is mostly 1 way doesn't mean it shouldn't be 2 way if I get a chance.

Good on the biker dude. Well done.

And fuck you, Fredo.
