That's the real sun — at 7:13.

Actual sunrise time was 7:04.

The reason the camera could handle looking right at the sun was that excellent low mist. The sky looked clear as I left the house and I got a bit of a late start because there was a thick layer of snow to be cleared off the car, but as I arrived I saw that wonderful mist at the horizon, and that made all the difference.

I nearly gave up on this run — first, when I saw how long it would take to clear the car, and second, when I realized way too late that I'd forgotten to bring a dollar for the parking meter, and third, when I saw how bumpy the path was (from all the footsteps on deep snow). There would have been a fourth hesitation if I'd looked at the car's thermometer and seen that it was 0°, but I relied on my iPhone app, which said something like 14°. It was only after I got out there that I noticed it really was *quite* cold.

Because of the parking meter, the bumpy path, and the cold, and because I found an early point to get photos of the excellent sunrise and the time for sunrise pictures had passed, I turned back without getting my full run. I lucked out and didn't get a parking ticket, was shocked to see 0° on the car thermometer, and made it home to show you these cool pictures.

0? So, it's a balmy winter day in Wisconsin?

I think the coldest morning I've experienced was a -28F morning in Minneapolis.

A truly beautiful picture.

I really like the second picture. The track of footprints leads right into the sun.
Very fine.

OMG there is a giant continuous Helium Fusion H-Bomb space object rising up to attack Wisconsin. Run, run.

Two beautiful photographs. But why do they make me feel so sad?

Is it the colors? Is it the footprints but no people? The vast space?

I don't know.

Very nice shots. What kind of camera are you using and key settings?

Now that's a winter scene.

Who walked that crooked line? There does not appear to be any obstacles to avoid, why not straight out? And then returned along the same line. Interesting.

I like when there is still open water, and it gets down to zero, and the water may be 32.5 degrees or something, and it steams like a hot tub. It looks good enough to wade into. *Looks* good enough.

The footprints freeze on the path, you try to run on top, twist an ankle and it's all over...

The White House has identified and will soon part ways with the “anonymous” official behind a recently released book and a “resistance” focused editorial published in the New York Times, former U.S. attorney Joe diGenova claimed Monday morning. DiGenova made his claim on WMAL’s “Mornings on the Mall,” but senior White House officials declined to comment on the topic when asked by the Daily Caller. In the book, “A Warning,” released in November, the anonymous official states there is a group of White House staffers actively hoping for President Donald Trump’s “downfall.”

Awesomsauce!

It looks like Trump is getting rid of 70 of the 200 political appointees that Obama turned into civil service employees to #resist the will of the American electorate.

With all that new snow, I would swear Ann was reporting in from Ice Station Zebra rather than Lake Mendota. Great pics! As always.

Fantastic. The blow-up looks like an aerial photograph if you convince yourself that that snowdrift is modest Ridgeline

Ann, I jut wanted to say how much I truly enjoy your daily sunrise pictures. These ones today are some of the best yet.

Thank you so much for sharing these every day!

I also hope you are reaping the physical and mental rewards from the exercise too as well as the zen from your daily pilgrimage to the sun.
