The woods are lovely, dark and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep

There's no horse.

The horse is there to make sure you keep your promises.

Snowshoe, XC Ski tracks leading into the woods are warm and positive images puzzles are made of. Bootprints say crime scene ahead...

The woods are lovely, dark and deep,
But I have blog posts to write,
And miles to go before I sleep,

Whose race this is I think I know
He’s orange and his mane does flow
He doesn’t mind he causes fear
of those who liked the status quo

The press and those that they hold dear
Can’t understand a man so queer
Who tweets and crap he doesn’t take
and never, ever drinks a beer

They write and write and bitch and quake
And make up news the he calls fake
As ratings fall below a peep
But they go on, for goodness sake.

A race so long it makes one weep
But what you sow, you also reap
And so he wins with Pence as Veep
And so he wins with Pence as Veep

Losing yourself in nature has no point if there's no horse to offset it.

Some editions put in an Oxford comma, stupidly thinking it's a list rather than an apposition. lovely, dark and deep

Her house is in the village though;
She must not mind us stopping here
To fill her comment file with blow...

Happy 69th Birthday, Ann Althouse.

I was gone most of the weekend and it looks like no one else remembered other than your kids, real friends and, of course, Meade.

Next year there needs to be a BIG party in Madison.

I love the lighting. The snow has a unique effect in lighting the landscape. It reminds me of western PA in the winter.

Ann Althouse, born January 12, 1951.

Ann's birthday was yesterday. A fine commenting community this is. Where the hell would you be without Althouse?

By contrast, President Trump took to Twitter with a stern warning, in Persian, for the Iranian government:

“DO NOT KILL YOUR PROTESTERS. Thousands have already been killed or imprisoned by you, and the World is watching. More importantly, the USA is watching.”

Obama and J. Farmer hardest hit.

Meade:

Not too early to book the Majestic and Dylan for 2021. Bob would probably perform free for his biggest fan.

Shoveling the Drive on a Snowy Evening

Whose job is this? I think I know.
My aching back is screaming, though;
As abs not flexed for many a year
Are tortured by the mounting snow.

The frozen tundra's almost clear
As through the drifting flakes I peer
I'm tempted to postpone the rest
To step inside, and have a beer.

My mighty shovel does its best
To carve neat swaths at my behest
But buried decks and frozen stairs
Begin to seem a hopeless quest.

The snow is lovely, silent, deep.
It drifts in mountains, chill and steep
My weiner dog's ass deep in snow
I wish he'd hurry up and go.
I wish he'd hurry up and go.

Birthday wishes are inescapable on Facebook.

For the blog, I’m more interested in my bloggerversary, which is tomorrow.

LM still better get going on that big party in 2021. Celebrate both events.

MLB announces Astros punishment for sign stealing. As an Astros fan, if the Mike Fiers allegations are true as described; then I think this punishment is a bit light. But that's because it takes something for a purpose built camera CCTV to the dugout. However, the information in the press release says it was mostly player driven activity, which suggests something like a in stadium video feed that everyone had access to, but probably shouldn't have been in the dugout (except how do you check for instant replays calls), and shouldn't have been used for sign stealing. If that's the case, then I understand a lighter sentence, but why put it on the GM and Head Coach only?

Also, the report says Alex Cora was involved in setting up the system but will not be punished unless a separate investigation of Red Sox sign stealing comes up with something. That investigation was announced last week after the Oakland A's (again, as Mike Fiers as an A's pitcher made the allegation against Houston) complained.

Hey, Althouse: belated happy birthday!

At the very least you can expect the Red Sox will be looking for a new manager...

Sorry I missed your birthday & Rush's birthday. Been following for 20 years or so. And this poem makes a lovely commemoration. Thanks "n" and Robert Frost, "and miles to go before I sleep" I don't know if more beautiful words have ever been written.

My son and his wife moved to Madison five or six years ago. I wonder how many other daily readers use you, among all the other things, for a portal (in the conventional sense), use you to shrink the distance between here and there. Frost has another poem, "Directive", about finding a place in the woods where children play with broken dishes and sticks, make believe. "Come," the narrator says, "If you'll let one be your guide who only has at heart your getting lost..." Sometimes I think that's you.

From TheHill.com

"A Wisconsin judge on Monday found the state's elections commission, as well as three of its members, in contempt of court for their failure to remove thousands of people from Wisconsin voter rolls in compliance with an order he imposed in December, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.

Judge Paul Malloy said the three Democratic commission members who have fought his order, Ann Jacobs, Julie Glancey and Mark Thomsen, must each pay $250 a day for every day they fail to comply, while the commission itself must pay $50 a day."
