"President Trump’s approval rating has climbed to match the highest of his presidency, boosted by majority approval of his economic stewardship..."

The Washington Post reports on its new poll that has Trump at 44% approval, up from 38% last October.
A 56 percent majority approves of Trump’s handling of the economy, up 10 percentage points from September and his strongest rating on his marquee issue since entering office....

The nationwide survey, which overlapped with the start of arguments in Trump’s impeachment trial in the Senate this week, finds 47 percent of the public saying senators should remove Trump from office and 49 percent saying they should not.
In December it was 49% for removal and 45% against. WaPo calls these numbers "similar," but Trump went from down 4 percentage points to up 2 percentage points. That's a 6-point change in only one month!
Independents narrowly lean against removal, with 42 percent saying the Senate should remove Trump from office while 51 percent say it should not.
How is that a narrow leaning? That's a 9-point difference! And more generally, independents are shifting toward Trump — from 38% in October to 47% now. On economics, the independents have moved from 46% in September to 60% now.

A 10% margin of victory is a narrow win for a Republican.

Anything over 1% is a landslide victory for Democrat indicating widespread acceptance of their policies and pronouncements.

It's in the AP, UPI and Reuters stylebooks. Everybody knows this. Why are you questioning a 9 point difference being called narrow?

You have a weird relationship with polls, Althouse. You were once fond of remarking about how wrong the polls were in 2016. Repeatedly, I reminded you that the polls were not wrong; they were very close to spot-on accuracy, were well within their margin of error, and what was wrong in 2016 were predictions based on the polling, which itself was fine.

Now you elevate this one poll from WaPo which hardly seems like great news for an incumbent President with an almost incredibly favorable economy and not yet beset by any existential crises.

FiveThirtyEight has front-paged an even larger conglomeration of polls, and insofar as you have in the past expressed interest in Nate Silver’s work, I would think that might be more interesting polling. But what I suspect is that your real aim is to flyspeck the Washington Post’s individual words describing any Trump-related polling.

Well, to be fair; a 1% 'victory' for a republican isn't above the margin of fraud...
So, that would turn out to be a narrow democrat victory.

Trump is taking away your freedoms. He's basically just like Hitler. Only rich white people are benefiting from the economy. The economy is actually really bad. And instead of concentrating on the nine points, please note that 51 percent is 21 percent higher than 42 percent. The difference is ...YUGE.

THEOLDMAN

Gets pissed off when the local rag talked about adding "a penny" to the sales tax when it was proposed to increase Palm Beach County's 6 percent to 7 percent. It's not a damned penny. It's only a penny if the one percent additional is applied only to the first dollar spent. When it is applied to the whole purchase, it's one percent, or, in language used above: almost a 17% increase in the sales tax.

It may be a long night, but [Dem Chump] can still pull it off in Michigan. Meanwhile, in California, where Trump was not expected to do well, the President's lead has dwindled to 7 million votes with 98% of the vote counted, but with Marin County still to be heard from. Speaker Pelosi has assured us that she expects big things from Marin County, whose 260,955 residents are bursting with hostility towards Trump. She says they'll take a chunk out of that 7 million vote lead."

The WaPo poll is a statement against interest, as anyone with an IQ above body temperature knows. If this were a Breitbart poll, or maybe even a FoxNews poll (not sure these days about Fox), I would discount it as it would only be confirming what the news organization wants the public to believe, but you can't do that here. Indeed, you can imagine the consternation at the news desk- they probably considered burying the poll, but were afraid it would just be leaked (even WaPo isn't 100% anti-Trump in the newsroom). So, instead, they make fools of themselves by trying to minimize the impact by choosing ridiculous languange that only the Ingas of the world would swallow hook, line and sinker.

I think that's the best case now, but not the aim. There is no hidden agenda at play here. This is naked partisanship that has become embarrassing.

My favorite bit from yesterday:
House Managers: Trump's a threat to democracy because he withheld aid from Ukraine.

Sen. Joni Ernst: 4 of the House Managers voted against providing aid to Ukraine.

I don't see how that helps Democrats in winning Congress. And if you noticed, the biggest hit pieces against the House Managers this week all came from the "endangered" Republicans. I'm going to hate voting for Senator Cornyn this year, but I will if all it does is keep Democrats, like the House Managers, from having more power.
