Always amazing to see how hard it is for people to be patient and wait for events to actually develop. The urge to bloviate and speculate seems irresistible — at least for politicians and journalists. For example, Senator McConnell could just wait and see what Speaker Pelosi does with her articles of impeachment before saying anything. But Noooo!

Just another day in Trumpville...

At 2:52 pm on Saturday the 4th, Trump tweets that "
if Iran strikes any Americans, or American assets, we have...
...targeted 52 Iranian sites (representing the 52 American hostages taken by Iran many years ago), some at a very high level & important to Iran & the Iranian culture..."

The entire world reacts, noting that the "targeting" of "cultural sites" is a war crime under a variety of international laws and treaties. And that those treaty principles have also been codified into U.S. law.

This morning, Secretary Pompeo goes on the Sunday talk shows and tries to walk it back, not repeating the Trump tweet language, and generally walking back the idea by suggesting that the U.S. will comply with "the rule of law." Jake Tapper pressed Pompeo three different times to be specific and Pompeo couldn't and wouldn't give a straight answer.

Then, on Air Force One en route to Washington from Florida, Trump says this: "They're allowed to kill our people, they're allowed to torture and maim our people, they're allowed to use roadside bombs and blow up our people, and we're not allowed to touch their cultural sites? It doesn't work that way..."

This is wonderful. Trump, doubling down on an indefensible position. Trump will know that his base will love that kind of comment, and Trump will just as surely continue to alienate moderates and independents all over the electorate. Every Administration representative will be pressed on it. Every top military official in Washington and at CentCom will be pressed on the possibility of war crimes potential. And every moderate GOP Senator will be asked for comment.

In this time of historically good economics, people still talk about how bad it is. It seems that the negativity is unaffected by facts or reasoned perspective. In similar fashion, it's all the rage now days to fret about violence, and it seems like most people think it's worse than ever, leading to constant hysterical calls for gun control, and that "we must do something". In some areas of the country things are not that great, but overall crime is at historic lows, especially violent crime. I live in Las Vegas, Clark County, NV and this was the headline in the paper today:

"In 2019, homicides plummeted in Clark County."
"Clark County saw its most drastic drop in homicide investigations in at least a decade last year, down 33 percent from the previous year."

This in a county where it's legal to carry firearms openly and where record numbers of citizens are getting concealed carry permits and carrying guns on a regular basis. For most of us, nobody around us, except family, even knows we do it, but if needed we are prepared to do more than hide in a corner and wait for a killer to come find us. We love life, liberty, law and justice, and we have decided to do the only really effective thing to protect ourselves and those around us.

Recently a man pulled out a shotgun in a church and started shooting parishioners. A number of them were covertly and legally armed. One of them dispatched the killer within 6 seconds of him showing the shotgun. Three seconds before that, another, tried to draw on the killer but was too slow and was shot point blank as he lifted his pistol, and the killer shot another immediately after that. So the killer was confronted by armed men within a couple seconds and stopped within 6. He would have killed many more at his own pace as they all simply hid behind the pews, helpless.

How many murdered children in school shootings would be alive today if teachers and administrators were simply allowed to defend them by carrying a gun. I carry every day. I climb on equipment, walk the shop floor, meet with people in office situations, stand and address groups during meetings, and nobody ever knows I'm armed. You cannot tell. Imagine if a shooter enters a school and a classroom has an armed teacher who simply locks the classroom door, tells the students to get out of sight, pulls his firearm and aims it at the door waiting for the shooter, who would not have a chance to win in that situation. That teachers kids would all survive, and all the kids in the following rooms as well. Why is this so hard to do for our kids. We protect our money with guns, but not our children?, not ourselves?

According to Fox News, Republican Senator Ted Cruz is planning to introduce a resolution in the Senate praising the Trump administration for killing Iranian terrorist Qassem Soleimani.
This resolution would put Democratic Senators in a bind considering they would be forced to go on the record about their stance on Soleimani's killing. If they commend the Trump Administration, they would be giving the President credit. If they oppose the resolution, they would be siding with the terrorist regime of Iran.
According to one of Cruz's aids the resolution is “structured and worded the same way as a 2011 resolution that commended the Obama administration for killing Bin Laden, which received unanimous support in the Senate.”

Genuine question for those who oppose the killing of Suleimani: what should the U.S. have done in response to the Iran-backed mob's attack on our embassy in Iraq?

Made some boilerplate statement, put some pressure on the Iraqi government about securing diplomatic facilities, beefed up security, and then begun to draw down our presence in Iraq. The damage to the embassy concerned an entry area, the main compound was not breached, and there were no injuries of any kind.

The embassy protest was not an event that simply fell out of the sky but was a response to the US airstrike against Iraqi militia, airstrikes the Iraq government asked the US to call off. These attacks were certain to inflame anti-American sentiment, as the US military presence in Iraq is quite unpopular. Iraqis have very little interest in seeing their territory used as a battleground in a US-Iran feud.

Far from reestablishing any kind of deterrence, American soldiers in Iraq are now in a much more dangerous situation than they were a few days ago. The Pentagon clearly acknowledges this by its recent announcements. Asking a young American man to put his life on the line to referee a Sunni/Shia militia cage match seems like a repugnant wasting of a precious American life.

"While the Iranian regime has called for three days of mourning, some Iranians are calling for three days of celebrations, according to national security expert David Reaboi. In fact, many Iranians even baked cakes and other desserts marking the incident, some of which directly thank Trump for his action."

"Iranians were not the only people celebrating Soleimani's death. As TheBlaze reported, Iraqis were also thrilled by the news.

"That is because Soleimani, who was directly responsible for untold violence and countless deaths across the Middle East, has directly intervened in Iraqi affairs. Most recently, Soleimani advised Iraqi leaders how to deal with anti-government protesters, the Associated Press reported."

Why would any person in any position of authority in the U.S. government talk casually about militarily targeting "cultural" sites? We in the U.S. are signatories to the Geneva conventions, the Hague conventions, and we condemn those savages like Al Qaeda and ISIS that go around destroying cultural sites in the name of their illegitimate "religious" aims. We don't want to be like them; we don't want our leaders to look anything like their leaders. If there are Americans who favor that kind of savagery, we need to make sure that they are not in any positions of influence in American culture and public affairs.

In the meantime let's get more of our boys out of Iraq while reinforcing our bases in Saudi. Fuck maintaining an embassy in Baghdad - we'll teleconference or use their embassy here if we need to talk. And the last man out can set the demolition charges.

I am hoping that Trump will also pull us out of A-stan. We have enough nearby bases to keep that place covered in drones and SpecWar types for as long as we wish, but let's get those in-country troops and bases out someday soon. In the meantime, while we are there, lets go balls-out and start wiping the floor with as many Head Bad Guy remains as our drone operators and snipers can handle. Make the entire fucking Taliban huddle up in their caves for a week, and by the time they've got the balls to scurry out again, we've pulled up stakes and left - but there's still that low buzzing in the sky and once in a while, especially at night, they say shadows stalk the Khyber Pass.

Most of all, let's use the power we have to retaliate forcefully whenever possible. Attack our embassy? Fine, we'll casually kill your "most revered" general (because we can literally track his every move and strike him nearly anywhere). Your move, sucker.

LOLOLOLOLOLOL

LLR-lefty Chuck is AGAIN trying to convince everyone that the Gannett-owned (until very recently) lefty rag "Military Times" presents valid polls of military members!!

The Military Times was purchased by Bill and Hills pals over at Gannett (USA Today) in 1997 and overnight turned it into a lefty rag which supported Clinton and every dem since.

When that change occurred the active duty and reserve military members by and large gave up on it because it was literally USA Today with a different title!

And every 4 years, like clockwork, they put out fake polls showing the dems doing great....right up to the election when the military votes strongly for the republicans. As always.

Still not seeing ‘targeting cultural sites’ in that tweet, Chuck. Aren’t lawyers supposed to be precise in their language?

It doesn't matter!

First and foremost, I don't give a rip what you or anyone like you thinks. It means less than nothing to me.

If Trump really and truly wasn't talking about "targeting cultural sites," that's fine. Let's just get it really clear. Because "targeting cultural sites" would be a war crime.

And if Trump was talking about "targeting cultural sites," that's fine too. It will never happen, but if Trump wants to talk to his base that way, it's fine. Because it continues to paint Trump into a corner with about 28% of the electorate. The base that would not care if Trump shot somebody in the middle of Fifth Avenue. Because that is exactly how stupid and cultishly devoted they are. And it further alienates Trump from everyone from positions of senior military and federal government authority. Who knows, it might even be grounds for yet another article of impeachment.

I love this one. We have already moved on from the tactical success of the Soleimani strike, back to Trump's idiotic word choices on Twitter. Trump once again showing his innate ability to fuck up a train wreck.

The German General Staff had an undeserved reputation for efficiency and strategic thinking. Even after the German defeat in WWI, they were held in high regard by the German public. They had a certain amount of skill in tactics and logistics, but they had made any number of ghastly strategic errors that passed unremarked by the German public. They insured Britain's entry into the war by invading Belgium. Their thinking was that they would conquer France before England could send over an expeditionary force. In like manner they insured America's entry into the war by engaging in unrestricted submarine warfare. Their thinking again was that the war would be over before the Americans were over over there. Even in the east, where they did win the battles, their victories were more a result of the ineptitude of the Russian generals and the poor equipment of the Russian armies. I don't think in terms of long term strategic thinking the transport and subsidy of Lenin was any great victory for Germany. Their greatest strategic blunder was probably the acceptance of Hitler by Hindenburg as the Chancellor and the acceptance of him as commander of the armed forces by the General Staff. I guess the idea was that they would use him as a tool. You never know who's the tool until the hammer meets the nail......I guess it took Dresden and the Soviet occupation of Berlin before the Germans realized that the German general staff wasn't all that they were cracked out to be.....I wonder what series of calamities will have to happen in the Middle East before they realize that their holy men and bold warriors aren't worth shit.

Washington Post, September 6, 2019

NOAA backs Trump on Alabama hurricane forecast, rebukes Weather Service for accurately contradicting him

The Alabama office’s forecast for Hurricane Dorian turned out to be accurate.

The federal agency that oversees the National Weather Service has sided with President Trump over its own scientists in the ongoing controversy over whether Alabama was at risk of a direct hit from Hurricane Dorian.

In a statement released Friday afternoon, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) stated Alabama was in fact threatened by the storm at the time Trump tweeted Alabama would “most likely be hit (much) harder than anticipated.”

Referencing archived hurricane advisories, the NOAA statement said that information provided to the president and the public between Aug. 28 and Sept. 2 “demonstrated that tropical-storm-force winds from Hurricane Dorian could impact Alabama."

In an unusual move, the statement also admonished its National Weather Service office in Birmingham, Ala., which had released a tweet contradicting Trump’s claim and stating, “Alabama will NOT see any impacts from #Dorian.”

The NOAA statement said: “The Birmingham National Weather Service’s Sunday morning tweet spoke in absolute terms that were inconsistent with probabilities from the best forecast products available at the time."

https://www.washingtonpost.com/weather/2019/09/11/lawmakers-commerce-department-launch-investigations-into-noaas-decision-back-presidents-trump-over-forecasters/

I read the article and note it reports that the Congressional "investigators" are:

"...Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-Tex.), chairwoman of the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology, and Rep. Mikie Sherrill (D-N.J.), chairwoman of the oversight and investigations subcommittee, sent a letter to Ross requesting information related to the department’s dealings with NOAA and Dorian."

So, you have two House Democrats hard at work trying to come up with evidence for yet another Trump Article of Impeachment. The article's date was September 9th 2019. Anything else turn up since then? Like, issuing a subpoena for Wilber Ross to testify?

Nope. So that's a dog that didn't bark clue. Because It's now January 6th, 2020.

I didn't watch the Golden Globe Awards. I can barely tolerate actors when they're pretending to be other people, but when I listen to them pretending to be themselves my bowels start to churn and roil like I've contracted cholera, so naturally shows about nebulous achievements by shallow people getting montane piles of cash for inconsequential endeavors are unpleasant ordeals, to say the least.

Ricky Gervais famously warned the soon to be lauded to graciously receive their miserable trinkets and just shut the fuck up. Of course, the bloated adulation gluttons ignored that sage advice and fully lived down to the expectations of all decent people. Especially one Michelle Williams, who was non-honored for her jibes and capers in Fosse/Verdon. (Is it just me, or am I correct that the only interesting dramas about "showbiz" types reveal them as boorish, treacherous, and venal?)

Little Miss Williams took the opportunity to tell the world that she was only able to obtain the garish gewgaw she clutched so avariciously because it was more valuable to her than the human life she thoughtlessly conceived and then destroyed. Further, she implored American women to vote in their self-interest -- not in their enlightened self-interest -- just in the interest of their immediate wants and vanities. Well done, you miserable little shit.

And one more thing, Miss Wiliams, the next time you appear in public have enough respect for the brainless chaff who waste their mortal span by watching your televised antics to wear actual clothes rather than knotted bedlinen.

Why the fuck would anyone on our side want that? Why would we tell them that anything of their's is safe even if they kill us? Is it really that hard to support your nation regardless of who is President?

Chuck doesn't support his nation. Well, it's not really his nation, it's President Trump's nation. That's how broken his brain is.

Chuck is already a traitor in his heart. Chuck would gladly commit treason (assuming he had anything to commit treason with), if only it would get him the one thing he wants in life.

Not food, nor cool clean air, nor respect, not a woman's touch (or a young boy's). Not even drink. All these would merely go to fill the bottomless hole that is his soul due to the ascendancy of PDT.

All he wants in life is the President gone, preferably in some horrible fashion-I'm not even sure if a peaceful exit and retirement in 2025 or 2029 or whenever will satisfy him.
