At the Sunday Sunrise Café...
... you might want to continue the conversation here.
The photo was taken looking east at 7:35 — 5 minutes after the "actual" sunrise time.

Always amazing to see how hard it is for people to be patient and wait for events to actually develop. The urge to bloviate and speculate seems irresistible — at least for politicians and journalists. For example, Senator McConnell could just wait and see what Speaker Pelosi does with her articles of impeachment before saying anything. But Noooo!
What a fabulous day! There is so much snow out here.

It was a big fucking, alright.
A young man tells Joe Biden that his father lost his health insurance plan and the cost doubled, even though Obama promised insurances will be cheaper. He asks if Joe was lying or if he didn't understand Obamacare when he supported it.
Joe's answer: "No one understood Obamacare"

What a great Christmas season! I really enjoyed the family time, the college football, the New Years Eve festivities. On the political level, the bogus impeachment and non-bogus strike against the Iranian terrorist made it exciting too.
I'm ready for 2020!
Just another day in Trumpville...
At 2:52 pm on Saturday the 4th, Trump tweets that "
if Iran strikes any Americans, or American assets, we have...
...targeted 52 Iranian sites (representing the 52 American hostages taken by Iran many years ago), some at a very high level & important to Iran & the Iranian culture..."
The entire world reacts, noting that the "targeting" of "cultural sites" is a war crime under a variety of international laws and treaties. And that those treaty principles have also been codified into U.S. law.
This morning, Secretary Pompeo goes on the Sunday talk shows and tries to walk it back, not repeating the Trump tweet language, and generally walking back the idea by suggesting that the U.S. will comply with "the rule of law." Jake Tapper pressed Pompeo three different times to be specific and Pompeo couldn't and wouldn't give a straight answer.
Then, on Air Force One en route to Washington from Florida, Trump says this: "They're allowed to kill our people, they're allowed to torture and maim our people, they're allowed to use roadside bombs and blow up our people, and we're not allowed to touch their cultural sites? It doesn't work that way..."
This is wonderful. Trump, doubling down on an indefensible position. Trump will know that his base will love that kind of comment, and Trump will just as surely continue to alienate moderates and independents all over the electorate. Every Administration representative will be pressed on it. Every top military official in Washington and at CentCom will be pressed on the possibility of war crimes potential. And every moderate GOP Senator will be asked for comment.
I see trump informed/briefed Congress today on Iran:
Donald J. Trump
Verified account @realDonaldTrump
These Media Posts will serve as notification to the United States Congress that should Iran strike any U.S. person or target, the United States will quickly & fully strike back, & perhaps in a disproportionate manner. Such legal notice is not required, but is given nevertheless!

LOL!
Kudos to Seeing Red for coming up with "San Franshithole". I feel bad about botching the accreditation.
could it be argued that anything after 1979
... isnt *really* a cultural site?
We watched Loving Vincent last night. Animated oil painting. It wasn’t bad. The story centered around the questions “Why did Van Gogh kill him self?” and “Did Van Gogh kill himself?” I found the animation style to be slightly vertiginous, though.

Drunk posting is never a good idea Chuck. The scenarios you paint, gleaned from the latest Soros/Lawfare sites, are so far removed from plausibility that you would be a case study in psychic breaks from reality....but you arent because you simply are not remotely interesting.
So you will simply have to remain that raving leftist lunatic at Althouseblog with Admiral Inga and that pathetic creature called gadfly as your mini-me's.
Congratulations! Your failure is complete. But only completely complete.

Ricky Gervais. J.K.Rowling. The woke dam is breaking.
Golden Globes came on right after the Seahawk win and I turned TV off - figured that even if Gervais was non-controversial, the follow-up stars/presenters would be gag worthy.
Holy S**t - Big. Mistake. Now I read on Twitter that Gervais tore up Hollywood in a brief 10 minute opening. I'm hoping it will eventually be on You Tube.
In this time of historically good economics, people still talk about how bad it is. It seems that the negativity is unaffected by facts or reasoned perspective. In similar fashion, it's all the rage now days to fret about violence, and it seems like most people think it's worse than ever, leading to constant hysterical calls for gun control, and that "we must do something". In some areas of the country things are not that great, but overall crime is at historic lows, especially violent crime. I live in Las Vegas, Clark County, NV and this was the headline in the paper today:
"In 2019, homicides plummeted in Clark County."
"Clark County saw its most drastic drop in homicide investigations in at least a decade last year, down 33 percent from the previous year."
This in a county where it's legal to carry firearms openly and where record numbers of citizens are getting concealed carry permits and carrying guns on a regular basis. For most of us, nobody around us, except family, even knows we do it, but if needed we are prepared to do more than hide in a corner and wait for a killer to come find us. We love life, liberty, law and justice, and we have decided to do the only really effective thing to protect ourselves and those around us.
Recently a man pulled out a shotgun in a church and started shooting parishioners. A number of them were covertly and legally armed. One of them dispatched the killer within 6 seconds of him showing the shotgun. Three seconds before that, another, tried to draw on the killer but was too slow and was shot point blank as he lifted his pistol, and the killer shot another immediately after that. So the killer was confronted by armed men within a couple seconds and stopped within 6. He would have killed many more at his own pace as they all simply hid behind the pews, helpless.
How many murdered children in school shootings would be alive today if teachers and administrators were simply allowed to defend them by carrying a gun. I carry every day. I climb on equipment, walk the shop floor, meet with people in office situations, stand and address groups during meetings, and nobody ever knows I'm armed. You cannot tell. Imagine if a shooter enters a school and a classroom has an armed teacher who simply locks the classroom door, tells the students to get out of sight, pulls his firearm and aims it at the door waiting for the shooter, who would not have a chance to win in that situation. That teachers kids would all survive, and all the kids in the following rooms as well. Why is this so hard to do for our kids. We protect our money with guns, but not our children?, not ourselves?
Genuine question for those who oppose the killing of Suleimani: what should the U.S. have done in response to the Iran-backed mob's attack on our embassy in Iraq?
Chuck: don't forget POTUS declaring that US military is not leaving Iraq notwithstanding vote if it's Parliament.
And they told me if I voted for Hillary we'd be stuck in the middle east indefinitely.
Poor Chuck. Starting the new year as a dope.
Ricky Gervais did indeed deliver a beautiful evisceration of woke culture. I tuned out shortly thereafter and last I checked Ellen was getting an award for something. I was reminded of how efficiently daytime television can transform once pretty talented lesbian stand-ups into boring frumpy housewife fare.
@Sydney: I liked that movie too. Most all van Gogh historical stuff interests me.
Seen elsewhere
Iran has 25 missile sites plus 27 oil refineries . 25+27 = 52 targets.
According to Fox News, Republican Senator Ted Cruz is planning to introduce a resolution in the Senate praising the Trump administration for killing Iranian terrorist Qassem Soleimani.
This resolution would put Democratic Senators in a bind considering they would be forced to go on the record about their stance on Soleimani's killing. If they commend the Trump Administration, they would be giving the President credit. If they oppose the resolution, they would be siding with the terrorist regime of Iran.
According to one of Cruz's aids the resolution is “structured and worded the same way as a 2011 resolution that commended the Obama administration for killing Bin Laden, which received unanimous support in the Senate.”

Re Gervais:
Do not be fooled. It is another marketing ploy. He's an insider. He can get away with it because of it. He and 10x as many other comedians have had years during O's administration to skewer pedowood and the like but all I heard was crickets chirping.
The dam is not breaking and there isn't anything being said tonight that wasn't planned. These people are actors, they lie for a living. This is throwing rubber balls at the concrete thinking it will break to fool hoi polloi that a contrition is in the offing because they're scared about 2020, as if Apple would shut down sweatshops in China because Ricky brought it up.
Haha. Funny. My sides are in orbit! So controversial Ricky! I now return you to my regularly scheduled program of hating the living shit out of you and all your kind. You don't get to pretend you're a good person because you roasted your own tribe for an hour. Where were you when that might have taken more courage?
So I'll quote, "fuck off."
Just watched the Gervais clip. Man, he was absolutely fearless. Amazing to watch. I actually think it will make some of those self-righteous posers rethink themselves, and what they say.
Haha. Funny. My sides are in orbit!

Trump Tells Congress That US May Attack Iran With ‘Disproportionate’ Force If It Retaliates
https://www.theepochtimes.com/trump-tells-congress-that-us-may-attack-iran-with-disproportionate-force-if-it-retaliates_3194507.html
Gervais has been saying this kind of thing for a while, but I still do not think they expected him to do it that hard and right to their faces. I think they expected some of it, but tempered as most comedians do in that venue. He didn't pull any punches He will not be invited back.
I missed the part where Trump said ‘targeting cultural sites’. Of course he never said that, but at least Trump got the left to - again - attack his role as Commander in Chief and to side with the Iranian terrorists!! The stable genius wins again.
Let's see ratings.
"He will not be invited back"
Lol of course he will. They're a family of insects, and you can't spell insect without incest.
Beasts of England you are right in saying you missed what POTUS said.
"...a 2011 resolution that commended the Obama administration for killing Bin Laden, which received unanimous support in the Senate.”
Lets see how it goes this time, for killing a serious active threat rather than a man hiding and mostly out of the loop, not that Bin Laden deserved any less, but we should be at least as pleased about this success and the lives it will save.
Brad Pitt just won a GG for the only film I saw in a theater last year so I'm cheered. Nice speech too!
A lot of those celebrities will let it be known that they will not attend next year if Gervais is hosting. You can bet on that.
Genuine question for those who oppose the killing of Suleimani: what should the U.S. have done in response to the Iran-backed mob's attack on our embassy in Iraq?
Made some boilerplate statement, put some pressure on the Iraqi government about securing diplomatic facilities, beefed up security, and then begun to draw down our presence in Iraq. The damage to the embassy concerned an entry area, the main compound was not breached, and there were no injuries of any kind.
The embassy protest was not an event that simply fell out of the sky but was a response to the US airstrike against Iraqi militia, airstrikes the Iraq government asked the US to call off. These attacks were certain to inflame anti-American sentiment, as the US military presence in Iraq is quite unpopular. Iraqis have very little interest in seeing their territory used as a battleground in a US-Iran feud.
Far from reestablishing any kind of deterrence, American soldiers in Iraq are now in a much more dangerous situation than they were a few days ago. The Pentagon clearly acknowledges this by its recent announcements. Asking a young American man to put his life on the line to referee a Sunni/Shia militia cage match seems like a repugnant wasting of a precious American life.
Richard Fernandez (Wretchard the Cat) on Facebook links to this twitter thread by Hussain Abdul-Hussain who notes that: [quoting…]
For non-Arabic speakers, reporting in the main news outlets NYT and Wash Post is so misinformed (either on purpose or because of incompetence) that you might think that the Iraqi State has officially voted for ejecting US forces from Iraq (because of Trump's miscalculated move to kill Soleimani). What happened is different. […]

Read the whole thread.
’Beasts of England you are right in saying you missed what POTUS said.’
Cool. A quote would be nice...
Then, on Air Force One en route to Washington from Florida, Trump says this: "They're allowed to kill our people, they're allowed to torture and maim our people, they're allowed to use roadside bombs and blow up our people, and we're not allowed to touch their cultural sites? It doesn't work that way..."
Finally. A real leader.
Muslims have been acting like animals all over the world burning and destroying the cultural sites of everyone else.
It is time for them to be treated the same way they treat others.
And when dealing with animals you do it disproportionately.
This is why Trump is very popular in the armed forces. And with decent people.
And fuck lawyers and democrats and anyone who thinks shipping pallets of cash to murderers and terrorists is a good idea.
More importantly, the Vikings are moving on in the playoffs as are the Seahawks, who will be facing Green Bay next weekend. The Vikings play San Fran.
"These attacks were certain to inflame anti-American sentiment, ..."
That would explain the videos of Iraqis celebrating the death of Soleimani, as well as these reports:
"While the Iranian regime has called for three days of mourning, some Iranians are calling for three days of celebrations, according to national security expert David Reaboi. In fact, many Iranians even baked cakes and other desserts marking the incident, some of which directly thank Trump for his action."
"Iranians were not the only people celebrating Soleimani's death. As TheBlaze reported, Iraqis were also thrilled by the news.
"That is because Soleimani, who was directly responsible for untold violence and countless deaths across the Middle East, has directly intervened in Iraqi affairs. Most recently, Soleimani advised Iraqi leaders how to deal with anti-government protesters, the Associated Press reported."
Beasts of England said...

That's what we want out of you Trump bumpkins. Pick a side. Go ahead and say, "Trump didn't actually suggest targeting Iranian cultural sites when he tweeted, 'Let this serve as a WARNING that if Iran strikes any Americans, or American assets, we have...
...targeted 52 Iranian sites (representing the 52 American hostages taken by Iran many years ago), some at a very high level & important to Iran & the Iranian culture...'"
Back it the fuck down. Let's get back to the point where Trump will concede that no, he didn't say that he would target any cultural sites. Push him and push him and push him. Either say that cultural sites will be targeted, or not. Push Trump to the same kind of spot he was in when he was using a Sharpie to invent a hurricane cone for Alabama. Let Trump Sharpie out 18 USC Sec 2441.
Of course, I am not too concerned about Trump actually having such an order executed. US military staff and attorneys will never let it happen. The real point is to push Trump until he backs the fuck down from the idea. To turn yet another one of his tweets into a full blown embarrassment.
Will the playoff games be at different times?
Much like here, the government officials in Iran and Iraq like Trump a lot less than the people do.
“Far from reestablishing any kind of deterrence, American soldiers in Iraq are now in a much more dangerous situation than they were a few days ago. The Pentagon clearly acknowledges this by its recent announcements. Asking a young American man to put his life on the line to referee a Sunni/Shia militia cage match seems like a repugnant wasting of a precious American life.”
Indeed. They don’t really care about our troops, they are expendable. It’s all Trump fueled bloodlust now.
Asymmetrical warfare: The Iranians are probably thinking of hiding their missile and nuclear development sites in their cultural landmarks. Trump should threaten to blow up a few cultural landmarks just for spite. Maybe if he does that the Iranians will be less tempted to use them for irreligious purposes. We have to threaten to destroy the village in order to save the village.
Ice crystals on the shore are not something we experience in California. When I visit my mom in Kingston Ontario, on the shore of Lake Ontario, it looks like the Pacific Ocean, only with witch of January.
What number of Americans does an enemy operative have to kill in order to be considered a legitimate target? For the Democrats it's a number higher than 603.
@William: Chuck isn't thinking about that angle; he's trying to get us to image ISIS and the Taliban tearing down sites and hoping that we'll associate those two with us. It might be nice to take out some war junk outside a holy site just before it gets stashed inside.
"the Iranian culture...'" referring to their lifestyle and destroying the oil fields
Trump has run circles around you for years, Chuck, and you’re too emotionally involved to evaluate the dynamic. Do try and pace yourself, though - you’re gonna need a lot of energy over the next five years. :)
At what point in time did Germany stop producing Junckers and bullet headed militarists? At what point in time will the Middle East stop producing men like Suleimani, Saddam, Qaddafi, Assad, et al. At what point in time will the people in the Middle East stop cheering such men or killing such men as do not cheer them?.....I don't know if anything good will come out of our killing of Suleimani. Nothing good came out of our overthrow of Saddam or Qaddafi. And nothing good came out of our leaving Assad alone. Nothing good comes out of that place except, of course, the oil.
"Push him and push him and push him. Either say that cultural sites will be targeted, or not."
Why the fuck would anyone on our side want that? Why would we tell them that anything of their's is safe even if they kill us? Is it really that hard to support your nation regardless of who is President?
Iran has been fucking with us since February 14, 1979. Our danger level hasn't changed. Theirs may, if they aren't careful.

Now that, ladies and gentlemen, is a gin-soaked spittle-flecked danger-to-women-and-children-post.
The best part: this position that LLR-lefty Chuck has taken and already invested his entire emotionally damaged psyche around will literally not be an issue in 24 hours!!
Another 'bombshell" that isn't.
Another LLR-lefty "hill to die on"...that the Trump admin sees, shrugs their shoulders about, and simply move on as if it were never there.
Not even an aerial resupply to "Pork-Chuck Hill" of Pecan Pies will mitigate the pain of LLR-lefty Chuck's next political defeat. A defeat that will be simply one of hundreds of defeats Trump has inflicted upon Chuck and all leftists to America's great benefit since the Trump Train rumbled down that escalator of the "magnificent" and "brilliant" Trump Tower in 2015.

Why would any person in any position of authority in the U.S. government talk casually about militarily targeting "cultural" sites? We in the U.S. are signatories to the Geneva conventions, the Hague conventions, and we condemn those savages like Al Qaeda and ISIS that go around destroying cultural sites in the name of their illegitimate "religious" aims. We don't want to be like them; we don't want our leaders to look anything like their leaders. Are leaders are not great because they are equal savages; American leaders are great because we understand and accept the rule of law.
If there are Americans who favor that kind of savagery, we need to make sure that they are not in any positions of influence in American culture and public affairs.
Fuck it. Target economic sites. Target military sites. Target cultural sites. Hit them all, hard and from afar. But wait for the next move first - let Tehran do something worse than temporarily defacing an unknown govt website and popping off mortars - that's a weekly thing anyway. In the meantime let's get more of our boys out of Iraq while reinforcing our bases in Saudi. Fuck maintaining an embassy in Baghdad - we'll teleconference or use their embassy here if we need to talk. And the last man out can set the demolition charges.
I am hoping that Trump will also pull us out of A-stan. We have enough nearby bases to keep that place covered in drones and SpecWar types for as long as we wish, but let's get those in-country troops and bases out someday soon. In the meantime, while we are there, lets go balls-out and start wiping the floor with as many Head Bad Guy remains as our drone operators and snipers can handle. Make the entire fucking Taliban huddle up in their caves for a week, and by the time they've got the balls to scurry out again, we've pulled up stakes and left - but there's still that low buzzing in the sky and once in a while, especially at night, they say shadows stalk the Khyber Pass.
Most of all, let's use the power we have to retaliate forcefully whenever possible. Attack our embassy? Fine, we'll casually kill your "most revered" general (because we can literally track his every move and strike him nearly anywhere). Your move, sucker.
And, once again, the vast majority of active duty and retired military personnel will vote for Trump over whichever communist terrorist-sympathizing pro-MS13 machete murderers candidate Inga's dems vomit up.

“What cultural sites are in Iran?”
27 oil refineries. All very important to Iranian culture.
"Our leaders," not "are leaders" in that 10:24 comment just above. That was an odd typo. Not quite sure what sort of typo auto-corrected into "are."
Iran has been fucking with us since February 14, 1979. Our danger level hasn't changed. Theirs may, if they aren't careful.
That's one choice. Quid pro Joes. Quid pro Bos. Another is to mitigate progress in the Middle East. The dawn of a new, viable day.
’talk casually about militarily targeting "cultural" sites’
Still not seeing ‘targeting cultural sites’ in that tweet, Chuck. Aren’t lawyers supposed to be precise in their language?
You know, I believe the massive military support for Trump is part of what drives LLR-lefty Chuck's white hot hatred of conservative military members and their families and also why LLR-lefty Chuck spends so much time and energy defending lying hack Stolen Valor Dems (Da Nang Dick Blumenthal) as well as dems that call US troops "Gestapo" (Chuck's hero Dick Durbin).
It also probably explains why LLR-lefty Chuck went to such massive lengths to rationalize his non-service in the most bizarre and twisted way. He actually wanted some sort of "courage" merit badge for his tortured decision to not sign up.
There is a whole lotta Freudian action happening with that cats noodle...
The US is certainly free to blow up the embassy it built in Tehran.
Kharg Island can tip over, Hank Johnson explained to me. Chuck and Inga don't even have to be there--although it would make it even a greater sight if they were.

December polling showed significant drop in support for Trump among active duty military.

No. 6 Titans at No. 1 Ravens, 8:15 p.m. ET (CBS)

The Harame Motahar is also on the list no doubt. Tough to call it a cultural site. It’s not even 30 years old.
Our embassy and the Ayatollahs mausoleum would be good targets.
Beasts: "Still not seeing ‘targeting cultural sites’ in that tweet, Chuck. Aren’t lawyers supposed to be precise in their language?"
LLR-lefty Chuck routinely lies about Trump because, as LLR-lefty Chuck loudly and proudly declared quite openly and explicitly, he has 2 purposes on this blog:
1) Smear and lie about Trump to help drive down Trumps poll numbers
2) Drive a wedge between Althouse and her readers
LLR-lefty Chuck wrote that about his intent. Explicitly.
And remember, LLR-lefty Chuck claims to be a zillion dollar per hour legal beagle who is always absolutely always precise about his language.
Chuck, do you think that posting that same link every day will convince anyone? Would anyone here knowingly follow one of your links?
I remember when even boris johnson had a freak out over the baghdad museum (we doscovered later, most of the most valuable pieces were locked in a bank vault.
Chuck,
Your Mobying skills are slipping. Ever since you realized Trump is going to be re-elected, you’re Millenial Madness is showing.
Try to stay in character better.
@bagoh20:
That would explain the videos of Iraqis celebrating the death of Soleimani, as well as these reports:
This is exactly what I'm referring to when I say that US troops' lives "are on the line to referee a Sunni/Shia militia cage match." What possible American interest is served by having Americans troops stationed in a country where their presence is highly unpopular and where they are a target for militia activity?
The golden dome in isfahan is quite closer to a major nuclear installation (i learned it from berlinskis roman a clef lion eyes)
Thanks, mockturtle!
Banned Commenter LLR-lefty Chuck: "December polling showed significant drop in support for Trump among active duty military."
LOLOLOLOLOLOL
LLR-lefty Chuck is AGAIN trying to convince everyone that the Gannett-owned (until very recently) lefty rag "Military Times" presents valid polls of military members!!
The Military Times was purchased by Bill and Hills pals over at Gannett (USA Today) in 1997 and overnight turned it into a lefty rag which supported Clinton and every dem since.
When that change occurred the active duty and reserve military members by and large gave up on it because it was literally USA Today with a different title!
And every 4 years, like clockwork, they put out fake polls showing the dems doing great....right up to the election when the military votes strongly for the republicans. As always.
And with Trump it will be bigger this time around. Particularly on the reserves side for a number of reasons, particularly the medical flexibility changes.
No wonder Chuck despises these American heroes.
We can all agree this is a nuking from orbit.

The more incompetent a person is, the more likely they'll be enamored with left wing ideology. The more worthless they are, the more collectivist ideology suits them.

It doesn't matter!
First and foremost, I don't give a rip what you or anyone like you thinks. It means less than nothing to me.
If Trump really and truly wasn't talking about "targeting cultural sites," that's fine. Let's just get it really clear. Because "targeting cultural sites" would be a war crime.
And if Trump was talking about "targeting cultural sites," that's fine too. It will never happen, but if Trump wants to talk to his base that way, it's fine. Because it continues to paint Trump into a corner with about 28% of the electorate. The base that would not care if Trump shot somebody in the middle of Fifth Avenue. Because that is exactly how stupid and cultishly devoted they are. And it further alienates Trump from everyone from positions of senior military and federal government authority. Who knows, it might even be grounds for yet another article of impeachment.
I love this one. We have already moved on from the tactical success of the Soleimani strike, back to Trump's idiotic word choices on Twitter. Trump once again showing his innate ability to fuck up a train wreck.
’First and foremost, I don't give a rip what you or anyone like you thinks. It means less than nothing to me.’

The German General Staff had an undeserved reputation for efficiency and strategic thinking. Even after the German defeat in WWI, they were held in high regard by the German public. They had a certain amount of skill in tactics and logistics, but they had made any number of ghastly strategic errors that passed unremarked by the German public. They insured Britain's entry into the war by invading Belgium. Their thinking was that they would conquer France before England could send over an expeditionary force. In like manner they insured America's entry into the war by engaging in unrestricted submarine warfare. Their thinking again was that the war would be over before the Americans were over over there. Even in the east, where they did win the battles, their victories were more a result of the ineptitude of the Russian generals and the poor equipment of the Russian armies. I don't think in terms of long term strategic thinking the transport and subsidy of Lenin was any great victory for Germany. Their greatest strategic blunder was probably the acceptance of Hitler by Hindenburg as the Chancellor and the acceptance of him as commander of the armed forces by the General Staff. I guess the idea was that they would use him as a tool. You never know who's the tool until the hammer meets the nail......I guess it took Dresden and the Soviet occupation of Berlin before the Germans realized that the German general staff wasn't all that they were cracked out to be.....I wonder what series of calamities will have to happen in the Middle East before they realize that their holy men and bold warriors aren't worth shit.
Oh my what a day.
Big Mike from last night, I honestly don’t recall what was so funny but rest assured it was.
Yes they did some serious miscalculations in the course of the war.

NOAA backs Trump on Alabama hurricane forecast, rebukes Weather Service for accurately contradicting him
The Alabama office’s forecast for Hurricane Dorian turned out to be accurate.
The federal agency that oversees the National Weather Service has sided with President Trump over its own scientists in the ongoing controversy over whether Alabama was at risk of a direct hit from Hurricane Dorian.
In a statement released Friday afternoon, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) stated Alabama was in fact threatened by the storm at the time Trump tweeted Alabama would “most likely be hit (much) harder than anticipated.”
Referencing archived hurricane advisories, the NOAA statement said that information provided to the president and the public between Aug. 28 and Sept. 2 “demonstrated that tropical-storm-force winds from Hurricane Dorian could impact Alabama."
In an unusual move, the statement also admonished its National Weather Service office in Birmingham, Ala., which had released a tweet contradicting Trump’s claim and stating, “Alabama will NOT see any impacts from #Dorian.”
The NOAA statement said: “The Birmingham National Weather Service’s Sunday morning tweet spoke in absolute terms that were inconsistent with probabilities from the best forecast products available at the time."

What cultural sites are in Iran?
Maybe Alexander left something there 2300 years ago.
I posted the same idea on the other thread:
The Pentagon is a culturally important site.
The Pentagon is clearly a legitimate military target.
Do no such sites exist in Iran?
I think if the Iranians attacked the fort at Saint Augustine, that might be pushing the distinction.

Well the former american embassy is a quds training base a little like khodinka russian military intelligence headquarters.
Our embassy in Tehran is still United States' sovereign territory and its use by Iran for any purpose is illegal. Trump could order an airstrike on the compound without jeopardy of any legal repercussions

"What possible American interest is served by having Americans troops stationed in a country where their presence is highly unpopular and where they are a target for militia activity?"
Whether it makes sense to be there or not, the decision is never based on whether it will be a pleasant, risk-free endeavor with free cupcakes. You do realize that we don't usually send the military to places where they are welcomed and appreciated. That's for the Peace Corps, which has an entirely different mission.
Man, some of you people really have dumb arguments. That happens when you really just want to oppose something regardless of the merits. You reach and stretch, and then your pants fall down.
Wow StephenFearby, thanks for that. I had missed it. Seems I once again gave way too much credit to Chuck the other day, even acknowledging that Trump cited an "outdated" forecast. Turns out not even that. Trump was 100% right and Chuck was 100% wrong. I can't really think of an exception anymore.
It makes sense on msnbc, thats what matters

Horse shit, Stephen Fearby.
You don't remember the real story? That Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross (under whose direction NOAA operates) threatened firings if NOAA staff didn't come up with some sort of defense for Trump.
It infuriated a lot of people including very prominently former NOAA officials, pre-Trump.

I read the article and note it reports that the Congressional "investigators" are:
"...Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-Tex.), chairwoman of the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology, and Rep. Mikie Sherrill (D-N.J.), chairwoman of the oversight and investigations subcommittee, sent a letter to Ross requesting information related to the department’s dealings with NOAA and Dorian."
So, you have two House Democrats hard at work trying to come up with evidence for yet another Trump Article of Impeachment. The article's date was September 9th 2019. Anything else turn up since then? Like, issuing a subpoena for Wilber Ross to testify?
Nope. So that's a dog that didn't bark clue. Because It's now January 6th, 2020.

Yep this Dr. Joseph Mifsud that has zero ties to Link Univ and nothing to do with this other Dr. Joseph Mifsud that has nothing to do with Soccer but did meet with @GeorgePapa19
Two problems with this screenshot.
First. Dr. Joseph Mifsud of Link University was NEVER an advisor on the Trump Campaign. This is 100% propaganda.
Second. That photo NBC used isn't Dr. Joseph Mifsud of Link Univ that met with @GeorgePapa19

I didn't watch the Golden Globe Awards. I can barely tolerate actors when they're pretending to be other people, but when I listen to them pretending to be themselves my bowels start to churn and roil like I've contracted cholera, so naturally shows about nebulous achievements by shallow people getting montane piles of cash for inconsequential endeavors are unpleasant ordeals, to say the least.
Ricky Gervais famously warned the soon to be lauded to graciously receive their miserable trinkets and just shut the fuck up. Of course, the bloated adulation gluttons ignored that sage advice and fully lived down to the expectations of all decent people. Especially one Michelle Williams, who was non-honored for her jibes and capers in Fosse/Verdon. (Is it just me, or am I correct that the only interesting dramas about "showbiz" types reveal them as boorish, treacherous, and venal?)
Little Miss Williams took the opportunity to tell the world that she was only able to obtain the garish gewgaw she clutched so avariciously because it was more valuable to her than the human life she thoughtlessly conceived and then destroyed. Further, she implored American women to vote in their self-interest -- not in their enlightened self-interest -- just in the interest of their immediate wants and vanities. Well done, you miserable little shit.
And one more thing, Miss Wiliams, the next time you appear in public have enough respect for the brainless chaff who waste their mortal span by watching your televised antics to wear actual clothes rather than knotted bedlinen.
@Quaestor, the knotted bed linen look was her homage to Jeff Epstein. Who, “60 Minutes” informs us, does not appear to have killed himself.
These attacks were certain to inflame anti-American sentiment, ...
Yes, but Ricky had to make them anyway.
Why is Chuck still here?
He is incoherent.

At what point in time did Germany stop producing Junckers and bullet headed militarists? At what point in time will the Middle East stop producing men like Suleimani, Saddam, Qaddafi, Assad, et al. At what point in time will the people in the Middle East stop cheering such men or killing such men as do not cheer them?
If I recall the figures correctly, we'll have to kill 25% of their adult males, preferably the best 25%. So, answering your question in terms of time, the sooner we get started, the sooner it'll be done.
Little Miss Williams took the opportunity to tell the world that she was only able to obtain the garish gewgaw she clutched so avariciously because it was more valuable to her than the human life she thoughtlessly conceived and then destroyed.
Horrible as it is, have the compassion of realizing what a jumbled soup of turmoil her inner mind must be. Remember, her husband was Heath Ledger. She must be a miserable woman. I didn't see the show so I don't know what was in her face let alone her heart but I feel sorry for her that she could think let alone say such a thing. /Stephen Cooper lite
I wonder what series of calamities will have to happen in the Middle East before they realize that their holy men and bold warriors aren't worth shit.
25% casualties, and their women selling themselves in the street to UN peacekeepers for a chocolate bar.
Why the fuck would anyone on our side want that? Why would we tell them that anything of their's is safe even if they kill us? Is it really that hard to support your nation regardless of who is President?
Chuck doesn't support his nation. Well, it's not really his nation, it's President Trump's nation. That's how broken his brain is.
Chuck is already a traitor in his heart. Chuck would gladly commit treason (assuming he had anything to commit treason with), if only it would get him the one thing he wants in life.
Not food, nor cool clean air, nor respect, not a woman's touch (or a young boy's). Not even drink. All these would merely go to fill the bottomless hole that is his soul due to the ascendancy of PDT.
All he wants in life is the President gone, preferably in some horrible fashion-I'm not even sure if a peaceful exit and retirement in 2025 or 2029 or whenever will satisfy him.
