At the end of this clip, Trump jokes about Rep. John Dingell being in hell after his wife, Rep. Debbie Dingell, voted for impeachment pic.twitter.com/i72Qnn49GM— Brandon Squall (@Walldo) December 19, 2019
"Everything! I gave him everything. That’s okay. I don’t want anything for it. I don’t need anything for anything. [His widow] calls me up, 'It’s the nicest thing that’s ever happened, thank you so much, John would be so thrilled, he’s looking down, he’d be so thrilled. Thank you so much, sir.' I said that’s okay, don’t worry about it. Maybe he’s looking up, I don’t know. I don’t know. Maybe. Maybe."
Up. Down. Who knows which way Heaven is? Maybe Heaven is down and Hell is up, and Trump was toying with the directional mysteries of the afterlife. But no sense denying it. He was goofing around with the idea that a dead person may be watching not from Heaven but from Hell.
The widow is Debbie Dingell, who now occupies her late husband's seat in Congress. Olivia Nuzzi writes in NY Magazine:
I told her what the president said, apologizing for even repeating the words. She paused. She said she wasn’t sure what to say. She said she had to think about it.Why tweak the widow? Because he gave her something and she wouldn't give something back?
Forty-five minutes later, she issued her statement: “Mr. President, let’s set politics aside. My husband earned all his accolades after a lifetime of service. I’m preparing for the first holiday season without the man I love. You brought me down in a way you can never imagine and your hurtful words just made my healing much harder.”
To me, she said: “I’ve been one of the most measured members there is, so he may be mad because — I don’t know why he’s mad. I can’t explain why he’s fixated on me.... I really miss my husband today.... I’m raw. I’m sad. But I’m not gonna sit home and feel sorry for myself. I’m gonna go out and do what he would want me to do, and that is to be there for other people.”
“But I didn’t give him the B treatment,” Trump said. “I didn’t give him the C or the D — I could’ve. I gave the A-plus treatment.” As if to impersonate Debbie, he said, “Take down the flags.” Then, in a voice that suggested someone else asked him the question, he said, “Why you taking them down?” He answered the question in his own voice, “For ex-Congressman Dingell.” Then he assumed the other character, “Oh, okay.” Then he was Debbie again, “Do this, do that, do that. Rotunda.”He gave a lot. So what does that mean? This for that? She should have given quid pro quo?

Chuck,

The dumbest white people live in Michigan. In the suburbs.
Noted. Have a nice day.
But you left out "human scum." I am "human scum." Mr. Trump said so. I am part of the "human scum" team. Reminding all of my friends and neighbors in Michigan (Trump +0.23) what the Trump Party really thinks of us. Merry Christmas!
If God is everywhere then... so is heaven. And maybe hell.
From Marlowe's The Tragical History of of the Life and Death of Doctor Faustus (1592) a line spoken by the demon Mephistopheles:
"Why, this is hell, nor am I out of it.
Think'st thou that I, who saw the face of God
And tasted the eternal joys of heaven,
Am not tormented with ten thousand hells
In being deprived of everlasting bliss?"
Come November Nancy and Schiff and Nadler and Biden will have cause to understand more fully the omnipresence of hell.
"Reminding all of my friends and neighbors in Michigan (Trump +0.23) what the Trump Party really thinks of us. Merry Christmas!”
You are welcome for the 3,000 added Jobs in Detroit last week!
Reminding all of my friends and neighbors in Michigan (Trump +0.23) what the Trump Party really thinks of us.
Given the certainty that he will not remind any of his neighbors who have benefited from THE LONGEST ECONOMIC EXPANSION IN AMERICAN HISTORY and that he has no friends, Chuck's self-appointed task will be completed before he starts.
I am "human scum."
Red letter day. Chuck gets something right!
Funniest part of LLR-lefty Chuck's post: the claim that he has friends.
Well, I'm just going to go out on a limb here and guess those friends are not Trump voters, conservative republicans with distinguished military records, conservative women nor the children of the above, just based on LLR-lefty Chuck's long history of attacks on those groups.
So? He's still "grab 'em by the p***y" Donald. The Dems could find a candidate Trump voters would vote for instead (*cough Tulsi cough*) but they won't, because who needs another candidate who appeals to flyover country? Look where that got us before.
Oh no we’ve lost Cuck and his zero followers!!!!
What about the Lincoln Project?????
What is J Press going to do now????
“Since the name may not be spoken in public, on mom's orders, I'll just post this quote from last night's rally:
“I could have Barron Trump go into Central Park and he’d get a crowd. "He’d get a bigger crowd [than Elizabeth Warren].”
Trump is not being best. How dare he bring his underage son’s name into his political rally yammerings.
Cry, "Havoc," and let slip the fopdoodles of impeachment.
BTW, LLR-lefty Chuck is approaching a crisis point in his FakeCon online persona.
Recall that LLR-lefty Chuck's schtick has been to advance democrat and far left narratives, talking points and positions while pretending to be attacking Trump from a more conservative and or principled conservative position.
Obviously, this often results in hilarity.
LLR-lefty Chuck has often used Mitch McConnell as his stalking horse for attacking Trump. Oh how LLR-lefty Chuck has pretended to like and admire Mitch McConnell!
But LLR-lefty Chuck has completely exposed himself as a big-time far left/marxist Lawfare wannabe and LLR-lefty Chuck has been parroting the far left dem demands for impeachment and all their other ridiculous unconstitutional demands.
Well, this morning Mitch McConnell took a flamethrower to everything LLR-lefty Chuck has been espousing in support of his democrat allies so now, now, we will witness how LLR-lefty Chuck attempts to square the circle with his FakeCon former praise of McConnell with LLR-lefty Chuck's long supported unconstitutional democrat maneuvers.
Regardless of how it all turns out, its going to be absolutely a blast to watch.
I wish he wouldn't say things like that, but I doubt it hurt Debbie Dingel's feelings. She's a politician's wife, and she's now a politician, and she's a big girl. I'm sure she's heard it all.
“ I was right. Trump did joke about himself being in Hell.”
Thanks. I’d actually missed that. I fell asleep.
Most of the comments here make me think of those French aristos at the time of Louis XIV who paid good money to attend the Sun King's defecations.
BTW, has Inga ever apologized for calling patriotic American Carter Page a treasonous traitor?
Carter Page is the Naval Academy grad/Naval Intelligence officer and helpful source to the CIA in its efforts to root out russian spies in the US.
Inga repeatedly told us that this patriotic American and CIA source who was actually working with the CIA to stop russians was really just a treasonous traitor spy for the russians.
It seems so long ago that Inga kept telling us about how she respected military members and military retirees.
Well, not to worry Inga. Trump is on pace to improve his already sizeable active duty military and retiree vote advantage over the dems.
Congratulations!
By the way, where DID those impeachment papers go?? They were just around here somewhere.......we need them because its so very very urgent (LOL) to remove Trump and the Senate needs them.....where did those papers go?........
Chuck knocking on his neighbors' doors to tell them what people are calling him on the internet and the neighbors’ response: “You don’t say."
Again, anyone else following the loony lefty meltdowns on twitter as they realize that Trump is still in the White House and Nancy's little headfake isn't going anywhere?
Nancy doesn't even want to chat about impeachment anymore!!
I can't say I'm even slightly surprised at just how stupid the dem leadership thinks their base voters are since I've read lots of Inga posts over the previous several years.
Leave it to the dems to turn even impeachment into a nothing burger.
LOL
Woo, Drago is on super charged mania mode today. I wonder why.
What’s the difference between Carter Page and Valerie Plame?
Carter Page was helping the CIA spy on Russia until Democrats blew his cover in an abuse of power intended to catch Trump in some kind of compromising situation that Hillary had promised them they would find.
And Scooter Libby, who had nothing to do with it, is in jail because Valery Plame was outed and you can still trigger a lefty to outrage by mentioning her name.
Basically this whole affaire is the biggest “SWATting” of all time, initiated by Hillary.
Michigan is a shithole, especially the suburbs.
Michigan is a rather large place to be a shithole, which it is not. Parts of the Wolverine State are decidedly latrine-like, especially Detroit. People who think like Chuck (if it can honestly be called thinking) blame the retreat of the automobile industry for Detroit's woes, and there's a minor truth there. But the proximate cause of the city's shithole condition is more than fifty years of one-party rule by the Democrats. When the major automakers were in distress the Democreeps in City Hall refused to reduce their tax burden, which was mostly property taxes levied on exaggerated pre-Recession values. When the relationship of a municipal government to a city's most significant employers is analogous to that of a leech to its host no one should be surprised when the exploited host detaches the parasite and leaves. Since the retreat of the auto industry, the city rulers did nothing to encourage other, more streamlined, and more narrowly capitalized businesses to move to Detroit, something anyone with a three-digit IQ could see plainly blindfolded, but not the sub-normal carrion feeders in City Hall. Instead, they busied themselves creating high-salaried low-effort municipal jobs for their relatives and concubines with commensurately generous pensions funded by the entire state.
If Chuck is banned from this blog, then in just one post alone Drago told Althouse to "Fuck off!" eleven times.

I don't know why Congresswoman Dingell felt the need to say that last bolded part. It comes off as disingenuous, and undercuts value of anything you say preceding it. It sounds like when people are asked what their biggest fault is in an interview and they say something like, "Well I find that I'm too hard of a worker... or, I tend to be somewhat of a perfectionist." I suspect some advisor told her she can't just say, that what Trump said hurt her because then she will look like a weak victim and she has to constantly sell herself to the voters as a tough leader. Merely expressing some level of sadness or hurt over a comment that reasonably appears like it could cause hurt doesn't pidgeon-hole a person as a hyper-emotional, wailing widow. That being said there is a risk of overselling sadness, which also comes off as disingenuous.

Chuck mines the ignorance of this commentariat. Hunters and gun owners in Michigan couldn't get near a frikin gun grabbing democrat. The Dingells are part of a democrat machine dynasty. Auto workers? Steel workers? That demographic has been hollowed out in that district. Maybe you remember the recount of 2016? Right.. never happened because of the following

Inga: "Woo, Drago is on super charged mania mode today. I wonder why."
Although I wouldn't term it "mania" (since leftists routinely abuse psychiatry to attack political opponents as in the Soviet Union, which, incidently, Inga actually denied happening!), here's a few things I'm enthused about:
1) The democrats have already lost their homework and can't send it over to the Senate (really, its' not because they lack confidence in their sham effort, really)
2) Record low unemployment across all demographics
3) Average middle class wage increases > $6,0000 per year
4) 4 Trade deals (which Inga and LLR-lefty Chuck said was impossible) completed
5) Manufacturing jobs increasing at a rate that Inga and LLR-lefty Chuck said was impossible (huzzah for Trump for finding that economic "magic wand"!!)
and on and on it goes.
The polls show Trump smashing each of the democrat loser front runners, battlegrouond independents have hardened in their views of the dems and there won't be any recovery in those numbers, etc etc etc.
On a personal level, the business environment is so advantageous I get to be as selective as I like regarding clientele and fee's are holding up quite nicely thank you.
The Dems have never been so kind talking about Trump. 24/7 he's called every negative thing possible while being accused of every manner of evil. I couldn't care less what he says about his enemies in return. He will never approach what has been thrown at him since election day. Besides, don't you have to believe in hell to find this offensive. Clearly few Democrats believe in hell, or they would clean up their act.
Heh - he is so worked up that he is now repeating himself. Which is no surprise - as others have noted, the mania is deep with this one.
"Count of purplepenguin posts directing LLR-lefty Chuck to abide by Althouse banning: ZERO"
You keep saying Althouse has banned him - yet nobody has been able to provide a link to where she actually did so. Why is that?

With that said - Are you, Drago, aware that Althouse has requested we not talk with/about those whom she banned from her blog? If so, why do you continue to talk with/about Chuck? Drago,
All those great developments are really pissing off some people. Try to be more sensitive to their feelings, and remind them to just relax, becuase recession and malaise are sure to return someday. Likely when Trump is gone, so it will be absolute nirvana someday.
What's worse? Talking about banned commenters or running your mouth incessantly asking about banned commenters?
The Dems have never been so kind talking about Trump. 24/7 he's called every negative thing possible while being accused of every manner of evil. I couldn't care less what he says about his enemies in return.
While I generally agree with that, Trump does sometimes work on double-standards as well. I seem to recall the Pope publicly questioning (at least in an implied manner) whether Trump was actually a man of faith. And Trump rightly called him out on it, and the Pope retracted his comment. But now Trump publicly questions Nancy Pelosi on whether she really prays for him. For what it is worth I doubt she prays for him as well, but him publicly calling her out does seem like a double standard.
Jim at: "What's worse? Talking about banned commenters or running your mouth incessantly asking about banned commenters?"
Those asking questions about those asking questions about those referring to banned commenters...have been sacked.
If you could do it, how many Democrats would vote for a recession right now? How many actually get excited if they hear some bad economic outlook? C'mon, admit it. You do, dontcha?
I read Debbie Dingell’s tweet to Donald Trump, part of it, anyway. The first sentence read “Mr. President, let’s set politics aside.“ I nearly lost my lunch, because there is no such thing as a Democrat who can ever put politics aside, not even for a moment. Then, of course, poor her, she lost her husband. Well, you marry a guy almost three decades older than you then, sorry, but you should know that widowhood is in your future unless you’re wildly unlucky.
This does highlight a Trump trait that is both a strength and an exploitable weakness, which is that he has a long memory for slights, and a strong desire to get even. He has something planned for the Democrats of the 116th Congress, and I doubt they’re ready for it. David Gergen thinks so, but believes thar this is a bad thing. Trump doesn’t give a damn what David Gergen thinks, and neither do I.
Drago - why do you continue to talk with/about banned users? Are you some sort of shitheel who is gonna continue to persist, or are you gonna respect the expressed wishes of our hostess?
bagoh20: "All those great developments are really pissing off some people. Try to be more sensitive to their feelings, and remind them to just relax, becuase recession and malaise are sure to return someday. Likely when Trump is gone, so it will be absolute nirvana someday."
I'm glad you mentioned that because, as a matter of fact, when the dems/media/leftists (but I repeat myself) launched their Recession Is Imminent And Its All Trump's Fault gambit some months back, certain LLR's on this blog did precisely as you would expect him (or her!) to do: amplified the talking points and attacked Trump with these baseless Journolist "concerns".
You know, just as any "principled conservative" would do.

Since it is used so much against him, Trump employing a double standard, is actually him enforcing a single standard - a double standard times 2 is a single standard.
Vault Dweller - if Trump had insisted that Pelosi doesn't pray *at all*, I'd consider that the same standard as the Pope issue. It would be questioning whether she has faith at all. I don't think Trump was doing that, just questioning whether she really prays *for him*, which indeed doesn't seem likely, regardless of how faithful she is overall. Praying for your enemies while actively slipping the knife in is different from praying for them from a distance. If she is actually praying for him while lying and deliberately trying to ruin him on fake charges... that'd just be creepy as hell.

Wut?
In my previous post, I blamed the Detroit bankruptcy and the Flint insolvency (with emergency management) squarely on the Democrats. What about that did you not get? Did you even read it? Or did you reactively (and wrongly) attribute all of the usual left wing positions to me, simply because I hate Trump?
I specifically credited Michigan’s Republican (and also Trump-hating) governor for the Detroit turnaround, and absolved him of the Flint clusterfuck, for which he’s falsely suffered blame for years.
Apologies for a little inside baseball to follow.
Upthread, I agreed with Meade:
"After yesterday, there is no such thing as a "moderate" Democrat."
Then I said:
"True. You hear that, Althouse?
Nor is there such a thing as a "moderate" Republican: those nice suburban women now know how nasty the Dems are. They have a choice, but it is not between nice and uncouth."
Then Meade says:
"@Sebastian— Are we to believe you are not a moby? a false flagger?"
To which I say: huh? My flag is true. Has been for, oh, a decade or so.
But I detect a little unusual sensitivity here. Why?
And, not that it's any of my business, did Althouse "hear" the truth of Meade's statement?
Then Meade says:
"If you want any of "those nice suburban women" to help reelect the president, you might want to rethink the strategy of going into the comment section and personally insulting them on their own blog."
I shudder to take as aimed at me a comment that may have been aimed at he-who-shall not-be-named, but just in case, since my initial reference indirectly addressed his point about suburban women voting Dem in 2018: I don't see whom I insulted and how.
Nice women who think of themselves as nice and want others to be nice now know how nasty the Dems are. They have a choice. But nice is not an option. There are no more moderate Dems and no more moderate GOPers. Gotta pick a side or stay out. Not an insult: reality.
Thank you FullMoon for posting that. It clearly shows that if Chuck didn't stop with the "clutter" then she would be defacto banning him. Not that she is doing so, but a warning that it will be happening. Lacking any other post from Ann Althouse, it is now crystal clear that Drago & his cohorts are incorrect in their assumption that Chuck is banned from commenting here.
Tho, I gotta ask - Chuck's posts must have been REALLY clutterful if it warranted such a warning...'cause Drago's cluttered & often repeated posts gets nary a peep from her, eh?
It could be worse. Dingell could have been deemed nonviable and aborted. Hell is a way station, a proving ground, where he will have an opportunity to repent and repay for every sin. Good luck.
Detroit turnaround?
It’s still a shithole.
So is Michigan. Terrible roads.
Jennifer Granholm was pretty. Useless but pretty. The other governors were just useless.
Michigan, like Illinois, is a dying state. Poor leadership by both parties. Poor business leaders. Not surprised a douchebag like Amash is from Michigan. They churn out guys like that. They must have been in China.
McCullough: "Not surprised a douchebag like Amash is from Michigan."
Amash is from Michigan but he is completely and fully owned by the ChiComs as they control the Amash family business supply chain and Amash dare not oppose their needs.
And what the ChiComs need now is for Trump and MAGA to go away so they can get back to busines as usual paying off dems/GOPe/LLR's for permanent advantage.

Eh, I'm an atheist, so on one level it doesn't matter much to me. But on the other hand, de mortuis nil nisi bonum, and implying that someone's sitting in hell now is, even for atheists, speaking ill of the dead even if only metaphorically. It's rude, and unkind to the widow and any others who mourn the deceased regardless of however horrible he may have been in life.
I can understand what seems to be Trump's perspective, i.e. that the widow forfeits her right to ordinary politeness by voting for these trumped up articles of impeachment. But unlike Trump, I don't think common courtesy is supposed to be transactional like that.

I personally wouldn’t ban anyone but I can sure understand getting tired of people taking advantage of my place and my audience that I built.
Good to see that Chuck absolved his boy Snyder for any responsibility for the Flint water crisis.
Snyder brought his keen skills as a venture capitalist to the problem. Sell them bottled water at a markup.
after there was a bipartisan push to deindustrialize, yes the democrats put up the plant warning bill around 1987, but took no affirmative steps, except perhaps Gephardt's Hyundai tax, what could one realistically do, Chrysler in a sad footnote to ford vs Ferrari, is now entirely owned by fiat, general motors is a shell of what Alfred sloan meant it to be,

As an agnostic I get to be one of the few that can honestly claim they don't believe in religion.
It is fun to watch a secularist, who can't prove their own religion is true, demand that others do so.

It depends if they intend to follow-up "he's orange, we don't like him, and his mommy dresses him funny" with a choice to cancel... his administration.
You will know these Democrats by their somber mincing...
how about the flouncing, you can't forget that,
I was born in 1960. In my memory, every president or presidential candidate with an R next to their name, plus pretty much every Republican representative or senator, has been called Hitler or worse.
This is tame compared to the crap that Democrats ladle out on a daily basis. I'm not even going to bother looking for my World's Tiniest Violin(TM).a
He merely told the truth. Can't have that now, can we???
In 1884, the GOP ran against the Dems as the Party of "Rum, Romanism & Rebellion"
In 2020, it will be against "Biden, Burisma and the Baby Mama"
Roy Jacobsen: "I was born in 1960. In my memory, every president or presidential candidate with an R next to their name, plus pretty much every Republican representative or senator, has been called Hitler or worse."
Truman called Dewey "Hitler" AND "Stalin".
So, it goes back further than 1960.
I feel like this would be more shocking if I didn't remember how average people act when politicians die, and I hardly think Trump is more generous of spirit than the average internet troll.
Dingell pulled a John Kerry he married a rich single women who is decedent of a Fisher Body founder. She was a lobbyist for the auto industry when he met her.
I'm watching the latest Scott Adams periscope. He's laughing a lot at the Democrats.

In her Diary, Saint Faustina describes her tour (!!!) of Hell:
Today, I was led by an Angel to the chasms of hell… The kinds of tortures I saw: the first torture that constitutes hell is the loss of God; the second is perpetual remorse of conscience; the third is that one’s condition will never change; the fourth is the fire that will penetrate the soul without destroying it…the fifth torture is continual darkness and a terrible suffocating smell…the sixth torture is the constant company of Satan; the seventh torture is horrible despair, hatred of God, vile words, curses and blasphemies. But I noticed one thing: that most of the souls there are those who disbelieved that there is a hell.
Does Donald Trump even believe in hell?
"don't be surprise if this comment alone gets you banned."
Not sure what was said in that comment that irked ya so much...probably more of a case of "who" said it rather than anything that was said...but duly noted.
"It’s her blog, she can do what she likes."
You're absolutely right and I never said otherwise.
She was a hell of a Lobbyist. Sucked his Dingell for her clients. Very Kamala/like
Whatever happened to Sono Bono’s Widow? She must be a Lobbyist now.
Saint Faustina, like the rest, was a bullshit artist. A marketer. Keep the hoi polloi in line. Man created Hell to scare the shit out of others. Also they got some satisfaction of sending their enemies there in their imagination.
No one believes that shit anymore. Now it’s just a joke. A cartoon
Trump doesn’t even like Chik-Fil-A. Of course he doesn’t believe in hell. Or God. Neither does Pelosi

Southerners have a saying. If there is no Hell then where is Sherman?
Skylark has taken a powder. Said he was sick of it all.
and that's why the nation is falling apart, the puritans certainly believed in hell, and if not for them there wouldn't have been a country,
probably hell is more like sensory deprivation, isolation from everything and everyone, eternal, of course demons must be communication with each other, but for the rank and file sen there, many would qualify since there are seven deadly sins,
their board is canceling the salvation army, that's the difference,

@Bay Area Guy, "Swamp THING" might be better, except that in the comic books the Swamp Thing was a good guy.
Scripture speaks of two versions of hell/hades. One is the city dump where the fire never goes out.The scarier hell is the hell of being put into the outer darkness where the castee weeps and gnashes his teeth from knowing that he just barely missed being the presence of God eternally. And God is defined in scripture as being Light,Love, and The Word. Plus He is a great banquet host to all of his guests that accept His invitation.

Republicans are supposed to be boycotting 'em now.
No. They're simply not going out of their way to patronize them like they used to.
Why show support for principles when those principles have been abandoned?
You know, for someone who claims not to be a leftist, you sure sound like one.

A serious question that I will probably ask again. After watching Pelosi in press questioning today who is less coherent Nancy or Slo Joe?
The American people wait with bated breath as their idiot president announces something he could have done 35 days ago to avoid this national disgrace of a shutdown.
Crooks like Trump will steal a hot stove and come back for the smoke. There’s no bar too low.
Burn this entire administration down.
Some 800,000 workers aren’t being paid during the shutdown, but Trump and his campign sure are. Families are suffering, yet this President remains a damned two-bit grifter.
Big Macs. Small hands. A nation’s embarrassment.
We’ve had presidents of almost every stripe, but this one will be remembered as the smallest and most vile. A petty man with no interest in a greater good for us all.
Sit on it, you imbecile.
Our pantspisser in chief clearly has his priorities in order.

Rabel, thanks for the quotes.
Trump was *way* too polite.
"A serious question that I will probably ask again. After watching Pelosi in press questioning today who is less coherent Nancy or Slo Joe?"
I don't think the Nancy Pelosi of 10 years ago would have been bum-rushed into this idiotic impeachment cul de sac. I proposed last night that it is possible she has reached that age where she is easily manipulated. It is a form of dementia where the elderly don't have the ability to act on their own judgment, or to fight for their opinion. I have watched numerous elderly relatives go through this stage. From my experience, it rare for an elderly person to be cantankerous and stubborn- pretty much always the opposite.
if you can't tell the difference between Christianity and islam, I can't help you,
there was a reason, a degree of civic peace, pertained in the land say pre 1961,
oh yes, she would have, she would have impeached Reagan in a new York minute,
Rabel's right:
Dingell is looking up, raising impotent Fists of Fury!
Eternally consumed by flames and torture, for being an utterly corrupt pol.

I gotta admit, the hot stove crack was pretty good. Might be a Michigander thing.
"Althouse you didn't mention the audience reaction to the Trump line. It seemed to me to be a mixture of shock, horror, general offense and disapproval."
This guy's a buffoon. I heard the somewhat muted roar of laughter watching it on YouTube. This morning's clips from CSpan (multi-camera shoot) revealed that, as I thought, people thought it was funny. Because it was.
The whole "Our hallowed Congressgrifters and Senators are the Saints of our secular republic, and no ill shall of them ever be spoken" thing is a species of what Althouse usually refers to as "civility bullshit". The reverent air is about as genuine as all the funereal garb and speaking of how "sombre" and reluctant was the "Yea" voting in the House last night. Get off it already; you're convincing no one.

He's been banned, but Pelosi knows she can't make him go away. I still contend Inga is a bot.
Pelosi thanks there's a long game for her in this, but she's wrong. Last night was as good as it will get for her.
No more on this. Not from me, anyway...

Dingell didn’t come up with it. It was a common insult in the 19th century. From Simon Cameron’s Wiki page:
“Nonetheless, Cameron's corruption became so notorious that U.S. Representative Thaddeus Stevens (also from Pennsylvania), when asked whether Cameron would steal, said: "I don't think that he would steal a red hot stove."[1] (Cameron demanded Stevens retract this insult. Stevens said to Lincoln "I believe I told you he would not steal a red-hot stove. I will now take that back.") “
”To be honest the claim that a deity exists and created life has far more going for it than a life form with complete DNA sequences spontaneously formed out of a mud puddle being struck by ligthning.“
In your opinion perhaps. Not mine. Besides, who says “a life form with complete DNA sequences” appeared all at once, fully formed? I assume the primordial soup likely took eons to produce simple life forms.

1. travel to Dearborn, Michigan
2. Set up a sidewalk stand
3. Put up two easels, one with your hand painted depiction of their prophet Mohamed, the second with one of Jesus Christ

Engage with the critique or fuck off, you pathetic old fool.
How is it that folks talk as if all dead people have a panoramic view of everything going on on earth for all of eternity? I don't think this is part of Christian doctrine, is it? (Confucian, maybe?) And then the same people who talk about dear old so-and-so looking down on them make sure to select a grave-site so that dear old so-and-so will “have a good view.” So which is it?
According to Paul, Christian dead (at least) sleep until the Judgment Day. As he wrote: [quoting…]
We wish you not to remain in ignorance, friends, about those who sleep in death; you should not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. We believe that Jesus died and rose again; so too will God bring those who died as Christians to be with Jesus.
This we tell you as a word from the Lord: those of us who are still alive when the Lord comes will have no advantage over those who have died; when the command is given, when the archangel's voice is heard, when God's trumpet sounds, then the Lord himself will descend from heaven; first the Christian dead will rise, then we who are still alive shall join them, caught up in clouds to meet the Lord in the air. Thus we shall always be with the Lord. Console one another, then, with these words.

ARM: Engage with the critique or fuck off, you pathetic old fool.
Christianity Today, lol. With whom are their political opinions supposed to cut any ice? Not even evangelicals, these days. You're a hoot, ARM.
"Pathetic old fools" is rather more apt for the editorialists you're quoting there. Or yourself - are you senile? Your cut-and-paste selections read like some out-of-it old fart who fell asleep 40 years ago and just woke up.
I think he engaged with the critique quite successfully, ARM. If that doesn't qualify as engaging with it, what possibly could?
The only line of 'argument' that anyone on this site, including Althouse, has had for years now has been to attack the messenger. It is genuinely sad to see people line up behind such a transparent charlatan, eager to carry his water. The magazine makes two straightforward points: yes Trump did it and yes he is an amoral pig. Neither position is particularly controversial.
The problem is that ARM doesn’t realize that quoting the Lincoln Project and Christianity Today is Steve Buscemi in the How Do You Do, Fellow Kids sequence from 30 Rock.
When you start from the wrong premise as zernak himself pointed out, youre going to end up at the wrong place.
ARM: Half the country wildly disagrees with both of your "points". That you casually claim they aren't "particularly controversial" is straight out gaslighting and makes you a horrible person.
Unemployment is low. Labor participation is up. Real wages are up across the board.
No new wars. Renegotiating trade with China and Mexico.
Trump is an amoral pig who delivers results.
You either deliver results or you are Obama and W. Or Pelosi and Paul Ryan. They delivered results for only their bank accounts.
Christianity Today is a worthless rag. Evangelicals are practical.
Trump has done a decent job. First president in 20 years to deliver.
Qwinn said...

Because you have nothing of value to say you attempt to hide the absolute failure of your intellect with invective. You are one of the losers who has run this site into the ground.
Both points are accepted by a broad range of people on the right as well as those on the left and the middle. Christianity Today represents a notable slice of the right. Only the cult members argue that Trump is anything other than morally bankrupt. Read up on his 'charity' scam. It barely made it into the news because we have all become inured to his corrupt immorality.
Bill Clinton was an amoral pig as well. Also a decent president.
FDR. Jefferson.
It’s not to say amoral pigs are automatically good presidents. JFK, LBJ, and Nixon were shitty presidents.
How does Christianity Today represent anyone but possibly the people who read it on a regular basis?
It’s circulation is quite small relative to the number of people who identify as Evangelical.
It’s like thinking Al Sharpton represents black people.

Christianity Today brands together reach more than 2.5 million people every month when print and digital views are combined
Fox News averages 2.4 million viewers in prime time, most of them half dead.
ARM: I'll repeat: Achilles addressed your points directly and precisely. Your claims of Trump's "immorality" are hilariously hypocritical next to the insanely worse crimes committed on a far more extreme and regular basis by people you think are just awesome. You point us at some Trump charity... did it raise 2 billion dollars while serving up government favors using taxpayer money like the Clinton Foundation did? Did it rob Haiti of millions in earthquake relief? No? Then fuck off, you hypocritical worm.
ARM: "Both points are accepted by a broad range of people on the right as well as those on the left and the middle"
How many of each?
Dont leave us in suspense.
And is it just me, or is ARM becoming increasingly angry over time as each of his hilarious appeals to authority fall flat?
I'm still chuckling over ARM's moronic "Great Awakening" schtick that was going to lead to the abandonment of Trump by republican voters. That one lasted about 8 weeks before ARM got clued in.

It's easy to tell when someone has hopelessly lost an argument, invective is all they have left.
It is revealing that you know nothing about Trump's scam 'charity'. Here, read something for a change:
https://www.nytimes.com/2019/12/10/nyregion/trump-foundation-lawsuit-attorney-general.html
"It's easy to tell when someone has hopelessly lost an argument, invective is all they have left."
Strange, cause I see everyone responding to you with multiple facts displaying your outrageous hypocrisy and mendacity. They usually cap it off with a three or four word insult because you so richly deserve it. And you -unerringly- ignore every single substantive point and reply -only- to the ending insult.
Every single time.
I guess ignoring all substantive material and responding only to the tiny portion of invective at the end is what happens when you have no rebuttal whatsoever to the substance.
As I pointed out earlier, lefties project more than IMAX.
Drago, another commenter has already spent a considerable amount of time pointing out the abject worthlessness of your contributions to these debates. I think it would be unfair for me to pile on at this point. Maybe you could read a few editorials in Christianity Today to get back in touch with the moral majority.
ROFL... 2 million, ARM? You're having a cow over 2 million which he paid back?
https://www.zerohedge.com/news/2017-07-16/haiti-official-who-exposed-clinton-foundation-found-dead
"Haiti Official Who Exposed The Clinton Foundation Is Found Dead"
"According to Eberwein, a paltry 0.6 percent of donations granted by international donors to the Clinton Foundation with the express purpose of directly assisting Haitians actually ended up in the hands of Haitian organizations. A further 9.6 percent ended up with the Haitian government. The remaining 89.8 percent – or $5.4 billion – was funneled to non-Haitian organizations."
He was going to testify to the above in court... and then:
"According to Miami-Dade’s medical examiner records supervisor, the official cause of death is “gunshot to the head.“ Eberwein’s death has been registered as “suicide” by the government. But not long before his death, he acknowledged that his life was in danger because he was outspoken on the criminal activities of the Clinton Foundation. "
Yeah, that TRUMP, what an outrageous monster.
You're literally a clown.
Now go ahead and ignore everything I said above "You're literally a clown" and act as if those are the only words in this post. You've done that to the last 3 posts you've responded to. It just makes you even more a clown.
Oh, and in case you have trouble with math:
2 million is 0.003% of 5.4 billion.
Qwinn your concept of 'facts' is so distorted by your complete absence of knowledge that there is no place to begin in attempting to bring you back to some semblance of reality. If you genuinely think Achilles is capable of making a coherent argument then you are yourself a lost cause.
Achilles is a pathetic old man yelling hate on the internet. You should attempt to look upon his pitiful example with a clear heart and mind and then turn away forever in horror, fully chastened by the realization that you have become so debased by your years-long defense of the cult leader that you could now see some value in the views of this moral cripple.
Qwinn
You're literally a clown.
You have now defended stealing money from veterans, kids with cancer and the homeless. How does that make you feel?
Hilarious - once again ignored all substantive points and engaged in 100% invective and ad hominem, while whining falsely that you received nothing but invective yourself.
iMac's market share of the projection industry is dropping like a stone.
You could start on your path to redemption by answering the question.
You have now defended stealing money from veterans, kids with cancer and the homeless. How does that make you feel?
The Clintons stole 2700 times more money from black people who were just devastated by earthquakes, ARM. But apparently, to you, one white veteran or one child with cancer is worth more than 2,700 black people devastated by natural disasters.
Why do you hate black people, ARM?
Let's try a simpler version.
Mark your answer with a #2 pencil.
A. I feel good when I defend the cult leader who has admitted to stealing money from veterans, kids with cancer and the homeless.
B. I feel dirty when I defend the cult leader who has admitted to stealing money from veterans, kids with cancer and the homeless.
To refresh your memory on what you are defending:
https://www.esquire.com/news-politics/a30208282/trump-admit-crooked-charity-pay-2-million/
oh, and by the way?
Klaus Eberwein didn't kill himself.
Qwinn you are just repeating nonsense you read on the internet. Trump actually had to pay $2 million in restitution and his misbegotten offspring had "to undergo mandatory training to ensure they do not engage in similar misconduct in the future." As debased as your understanding of the world clearly is, I am sure you can see the difference.
ARM,
A lot of The Brands folded over the last decade. Very sad to see Men of Integrity go under after 20 years. A real loss.
They closed four of their publications earlier this year. Laid off 30 people. Because that’s what Jesus would do, I guess. Or at least The Chief Strategy Officer, who is Jesus emissary at the company.
Perhaps The Brands are very popular in Brazil and South Korea. They claim 2.5 million unique visitors a month to the website. Maybe the Koreans and Brazilians are visiting it in between visits to porn sites.
The circulation of the magazine in the United States is 130,000. They also claim a “readership of 260,000” apparently on the belief that whoever subscribes to this rag either is married or has a cell mate who glances at it while taking a shit.
It’s sad when Jesus Magazine and website has to close publications and lay off people. It’s like people aren’t reading it.
So Jesus emissary at the company resorts to the Clickbait Strategy. Sad.
To someone like Trump, ARM, 2 million is a rounding error. Pocket change. It is literally inconceivable that he gave enough of a fuck about such a trivial amount of money that he orchestrated anything like that himself. He's already voluntarily donated more than half of your total 2 million by refusing to take his salary as President.
5.4 billion, though? Even to someone like Trump, or the Clinton's, that's real money. Not a rounding error or administrative incompetence. It had to be deliberate and from the top.
And Klaus Eberwein didn't kill himself either.
Oh, also? I looked it up - Trump himself donated over $5.5 million to the Trump Foundation to be distributed as charity. You're literally screaming because, AT WORST, Trump used less than 37% of HIS OWN MONEY that he previously allocated toward charity to his own campaign. That's *worst case scenario*... he ONLY donated 3.5 million of his own money (the proceeds from his book Art of the Deal) to those charities instead of the 5.5 million he initially committed.
THAT is what you're screaming about. You know what? I have no problem at all defending that. It was still probably an administrative hiccup, but even if it wasn't - IT WAS STILL ALL HIS OWN MONEY that you're claiming he "stole".
The 5.4 billion the Clintons stole from homeless Haitian black people? NOT their own money. Not a penny of it. They collected money from OUTSIDE SOURCES claiming it would go to Haitians, and then used it for their own purposes instead.
That you lecture other people as having a moral blind spot is literally vomit inducing.
ARM,
It’s about results.
Trump is delivering. Obama didn’t. He fucked up. Not as bad as W but he fucked up. The Recovery was skewed to low wage jobs and low labor participation. Obama’s Folks on Wall Street, in Silicon Valley and Big University did well. The rest, not so much.
These politicians are all amoral, self-interested actors.
Some deliver. Some don’t.
Why are secular/atheist so sensitive about heaven and hell? Trump is a secular/atheist, possibly a deist if he thinks about theology at all.
I'm guessing the good Mr. Dingell was buried face up, dead, "looking" up, so Trump is right on. If he was unlikely buried face down, he's "looking" down but still dead. If he was cremated and scattered to the wind on his favorite mountain, he's "looking" everywhere, an all seeing eye.
Otherwise, most guys my age share dark humor about death.
For the record, on the above bit with ARM whining about the Trump Foundation, and it turns out with 20 seconds of research that it was his own money that he supposedly stole? That he *only* donated $3.5 million to some charities instead of $5.5 million?
This is why, when I say assholes like ARM and Chuck have lost all credibility permanently, that anything they bring up can be summarily dismissed, this is why.
Because *every single time* I bother to bite at their stupid awful links and do the slightest amount of research, it is ALWAYS revealed to be utter and complete bullshit.
Always. Every time.
It's a waste of time anymore to even give them an instant's benefit of the doubt. They always lie. Always. As far as I'm concerned, Trump must be the most honest businessman and politician who ever lived, because with their willingness to lie and bullshit and cheat, they can still only come up with this weakest of weak frikkin' gruel.
It's seriously pathetic.
ARM officially joins the legion of evil of mendacious leftist posters here whose links I will never bother following again. They are ALWAYS bullshit.

Dingells, father, son, and wife, have been on the congressional payroll continuously since 1933.
John Dingell Sr, was the representative for Michigan's 15th District from 1933 until he died in 1953.
Neither Helen, the mother of John Jr.'s four children nor Deb - who Dingell married in 1981 - worked for Dingell - and The Detroit Free Press article on the kids indicates that they all had their own careers.
So maybe Trump got something else wrong.
John Conyers also died this year. He was in the House over 50 years.
He was the guy who had to resign over sexual harassment that the Dems covered up for 50 years. Dems like John Dingell and Nancy Pelosi.

"So maybe Trump got something else wrong."
This is why the leftists here become objects of ridicule: kur subject is John Dingell who died this year. His father, him, and his wife have been at the congressional trough for 86 years. You don't need Trump or the Detroit Free Press to know that.

The same thing could be said about Breitbart or Fox News or literally every other media outlet. Clearly there is a market for these opinions. Given the fate of most news/opinion magazines the market must be sizable.
Despite your efforts to downplay this break, when Billy Graham's own magazine breaks from Trump that is news. Clearly there are schisms within the evangelical ranks that are unlikely to heal until this morally unfit man leaves office. At that point only some evangelicals will still have their dignity intact.
