I was watching some old episodes of "Monk" yesterday and started thinking about how that character would react to the idea of "poop maps" for San Francisco. They would have had to set the show in another city because he would never have left his apartment.

Trump turns California Republican again.

I'd LOVE to think that could happen, but; since in California, you can now vote without being:
* a citizen
* a registered voter
* a resident
* alive
* an actual human being

I'm pretty sure that the democrats will have a lock
and in Orange county, with 156% of the vote counted... Democrats will in a landslide!!

One of the reply tweets says that San Francisco has "become a hellscape of poverty dotted by areas of extreme wealth hidden behind walls." That is a pretty concise description of the general in America. San Francisco is only a microcosm of what we can expect America to look like after immigration and globalization have really done their jobs.

Mary Beth.....LOL about Monk

I used to live in SF and it always had its areas of 'decay' and filth. However, the last time I was there, about a year ago, I was shocked at the areas that previously lived in or frequented that were nice or just OK which were like a slum in the worst parts of India.

Filth. Garbage. People wandering around in stupors or just laying on the side of the streets and in doorways. Probably decaying themselves. The once pretty and vibrant city was like an open sewer, a rotting corpse. Disgusting and frightening too.

I will never go back again for any reason.

It’s the “Crazy Nancy Pelosi” that’s significant, even historic. That’s the POTUS publicly addressing the Speaker of the House! Pure dismissive contempt. I bet Nancy is absolutely shitting herself with fury, ‘cause if Trump is comfortable addressing her in that manner then surely those millions of cousin-pokin’, banjo-strokin’ Deplorables are also laughing at her, and worse, laughing at her Office.

There’s a new political paradigm abornin’ in American politics. One where overreach doesn’t just result in electoral disfavor but genuinely delegitimizes the overreacher with those they seek to control. And it’s a very stupid politician who continues to push it, as I guess the Virginia Democrats will learn soon enough.

I recall reporting here 3 years ago about how horrible the streets of SF had become. And several commenters who had not been there for several years jumped my case. It once had been a near perfect place. But now it has become a dangerous nuisance hostile to middle class Americans tourists.

3. When he has penetrated into hostile territory, but to no great distance, it is facile ground...

They do both. And its all immigration. Immigrants from Africa and South America don't vote Republican - they quickly follow the nation-wide pattern of voting 2-1 D. East Asians and some wealthier Hindus vote more Republican than other groups but they're still voting 60-40 D. People also forget, you don't have to speak English to Vote. Millions vote using a ballot in spanish or some other language.

I get tired of these "Big City X is doing badly", whether its St. Louis, SF, Detroit or Baltimore. All these places are run by D's. They have plenty of $$, (even Detroit gets huge sums of $$) and their voters could change things, if they wished. But they don't want to. They vote the same type of Liberal Pols in, year after year. NO MATTER WHAT.

Conclusion: They like their cities they way they are. And if they don't care, neither do I.

Bleach Drinkers Curing Coronavirus Together said...

Right, so the barren, de-industrialized meth labs of red-state America are tourist paradises.

Pelosi is not the mayor of S.F. He did this before with Cummings. Trump and his devotees seem to lack a basic understanding of how basic government structures actually work.

Keep in mind that Trump's so-called efforts to reindustrialize America haven't actually brought back the hollowed out flyover towns that voted for him. They have however led to booming manufacturing economies in high-end niche markets that are clustered in places like, you guessed it, San Francisco.

Trump doesn't have a clue what he's talking about and I'm still trying to figure out what your relentless intentions to uncritically republish nearly all his BS propaganda here says about you.

On Dec. 17, 2017, the Detroit Public Schools Community District sent the staff of its Office of Strategy to a six-day conference in Los Angeles at a cost of $286,596.

Under a spending transparency requirement lawmakers added to the school aid act in 2009, school districts must publish such expenses on their websites.

Other travel expense reports from the Detroit school district mention $250,000 in spending for staffers to attend a May 2019 conference in Italy and $240,000 for a six-day conference in Los Angeles in December 2018.

There is no reason for any big city to ever vote for a robber-baron. Like you said, they already have the money, they have huge labor markets, they have much better educated populations - so the Republican message of "Vote for this wealthy, self-interested money-grubber to run your city so that he can enrich himself off it while throwing a bit of the scraps down your way" just will never sell there. Only rubes, sell-outs and sociopaths can be sold that message, much as it is the Republican mantra.

Many of the replies over there are suggesting that California poverty problems are no different than any other part of the country. That's just bullshit. First, California has had unparalleled advantages of climate, and natural resources, and has always attracted a lot of money, investment, and human capital becuase it's California and just pulls it in on mythology alone. Second, they collect far more tax revenue than any other state by far.

Despite these enormous advantages that once built it into an amazing success, and which are still present there, it is now declining rapidly and has the highest poverty in the country, with homelessness growing in 2019 faster than all other states combined. Other states don't have either California's inherent advantages, nor it's level of dysfunction. It can only be attributed to bad management, bad decision, bad politicians, and bad votes. It's entirely self-inflicted.

I left 3 years ago and just recently sold all my assets there. Everyone I talk to from my business dealings in real estate, banking, accounting, and regular people tell me the same thing: "You got out just in time." I did extremely well there for over 30 years, but it's not the place it once was, and it's all attributable to politics if you ask me.

Bleach Drinkers Curing Coronavirus Together said...

Huh? This message is already "selling there" every time a Democrat is elected.

That's only true if you think that cutting services and smashing organized labor is something that Democrats do. It's not. It's a Republican money-grubbing robber baron franchise. It's basically their entire brand. Oh, and also defunding education and poisoning the air and water - as famous Republican governor mayor of Michigan Rick Snyder did to the entire city of Flint.

No Democrat would ever poison your kids so that he could appoint a crony to run your city on the premise of cutting your state's funds was the way to balance your budget. And he wouldn't use the state's funds to pay for his own legal defense after doing so, as Republican Rick Snyder also quite famously did.

Now you've got the biggest Republican of them all defrauding student tuitions like Betsy DeVos did and removing your clean environmental protections as Scott Pruitt did. Betsy DeVos is in contempt of court for not correcting this. Pruitt was removed after proving how high he could jack up the "office perks" expenses. Republicans in action.

Trump ran a fake university until it was shut down. A court had to "re-educate" him and his daughter on how to legally operate charities once it was found out that he was using his as a profitable shell company.

And he thinks windmills cause cancer.

All just in it for themselves and to screw everyone else over. Like I said, it's the Republican reason for being. Not a Democrat thing.

Bleach Drinkers Curing Coronavirus Together said...

It seems pretty obvious that the only real problem CA has with homelessness is that they're still doing the Republican sprawl and anti-public transport thing. If they started building vertically to relieve the housing inventory and implementing public transport which helps with higher populations once they start getting large enough to need high rises, multi-story units and other things that are commonplace in medium to large cities, then the homelessness problem has no reason to remain as acute. There's no "Democratic" practice that made these problems what they are to them.

Relying on ad hominem attacks, avoiding the message, and tattling - three more Republican specialities I forgot to mention.

How do you identify the partisan? The partisan is the one who feels threatened every time the resolution to a problem is identified and he can't deal with the fact that it doesn't somehow just help his party or whatever it's up to.

Well awareness in general apparently is. And they're aware that vicious ad hominem non-stop is basically the only trick in Trump's tool box. They're also aware that he's told thousands of lies during the last three years alone. Are these facts of which Republicans are not "self-aware?" Or are they just hiding their "self-awareness" of them and how much it discredits them and their efforts to pretend that their hero worship of him makes them some type of party with clean hands?

In any event, I addressed San Francisco, housing, and the reason cities are drawn to Republicans like roses to Pee Pee Le Pew. They don't want to be poisoned, left uneducated, their labor base insulted or services cut all for the sake of enriching the latest charlatan to run into town. I've told you about Rick Snyder and Betsy DeVos and Scott Pruitt. So Trump's War on Cities is a sham. Talk about seeking to project and distract. I guess being impeached wasn't the psychological benefit to him he kept telling you it was.

So what else is there left for you to say, now that you've proclaimed your good faith in being here for some other reason than to sneer, deride, defame or play partisan jockey horse?

Although I can understand some reluctance to drastically alter the look of the city, if all the corps moving into it don't figure out a way around the problem - whether no longer moving in or working out better incentives for a massive project of vertical/multi-unit construction in certain districts or close nearby - then these companies are going to have to reap what they sow and take the blame.

Cheaper than what it costs the city now. Added benefit of inspiring homeless to become independent businessmen/women.

Of course, as this becomes successful, government will regulate it out of existence by requiring licenses, permits, regulatory classes for secondary license, special handling and various other independence stifling measures.

Also simple but maybe less efficient, require production of bag-o-shit when getting free needle at the exchange.

Not sure what I ever supported Biden for other than the ceremonial trophy sinecure of VP and surely you can't be talking about Don Trump when you reference "making own money," because Don never made a cent. His dad trust-funded him with a series of shell companies paying out at least $300k annually by the time he was a toddler, he went bankrupt five times, and his name-brand vanity operation grew slower than the growth rate of the U.S. economy the whole time. If you were an investor, you would have lost money by putting it in King Orange, since no investor would be dumb enough to have invested in something with that poor a return and expected to have kept his clients or reputation.

But I do realize that flyover rubes who are impressed with image and bling have convinced themselves that they have "the inside deal" on assessing value and worth while the actual bailing bankrollers of Chronic Bankrupt Trump must not know. They've been that way since the 19th century when the term "snake oil salesman" made it into the American lexicon. A sucker born every minute.

Getting back to Biden, though - he was long known as one of the poorest senators in the chamber, eschewing private transport and taking the train to work each day from up the 95. While long-winded and not my exact type politically, he's justifiably admired and well-known around the entire industrial Mid-Atlantic as a stand-up salt-of-the-earth guy who always knew where he stood and never sold anybody out. (Contrast that to Trump's cheap skating of his contractors, the cities that host his rallies, and basically anyone else to whom he's ever owed a bill. He actually thinks it a virtue to not keep his word).

But go ahead and use that reptile as a contrast for going after the character of a guy who lost a wife and son to a car accident in his thirties, being left to raise two young sons on his own - one of whom won a Bronze Star and rose to become an attorney general, before tragically dying of cancer at age 46 - all in the service of pushing some cockamamie, debunked propaganda originating straight from the Kremlin. Look at what that says about you.

It says that not only do you hate facts, you will smear anyone's character, push any lie, and disregard any common sense you can find, as long as ordered to do so by the orange invertebrate whose character, honesty and achievements nobody unrelated who knew him ever praised or even defended. It shows just how little he and your party actually have to stand behind. And you as well.

I just walked through/near Pioneer Square in Seattle today, and similar problems. Urine, feces, open drug abuse. Tents. Free bus rides. Doorways colonized. At least a decade of steady increase. Most of these people aren’t violent, most of the time but it’s in no way sustainable. Many of America’s crazies make their way to the city. Nearly always some combination of mental illness, drugs/alcohol and available services. Pretty sad. Incentives matter.

The politics of the city.... is absolutely insane. Imagine a religious cult. Maybe such people and ideas are closer to some kind of failure and reform because they are clearly unable to respond to so many aspects of reality at once.

Will Seattle and San Francisco not be run by Progressives....probably not anytime soon, but who knows for sure?
