I refer to them as Zoomers.

Funny thing is, restauranteurs cannot find a Gen Z-er to bus tables or wash dishes anywhere, unless they're from another country. But here, in this restaurant, they suddenly show some skill.

I'm not buyin' it.

Civility Bullshit

Anecdote does not equal evidence

Waitress is bigot using behavior of small set to tar large set....

Yadda yadda yadda

A sample size of 2.

Howard said...

Wait a second Temujin. How can you blame GenZ when it is the illegal immigrants who are taking all of the shit jobs like busing tables and washing dishes that deplorables and the Young are qualified for?

Freeman Hunt said...

Who cares if customers bus their own tables. What were the tips?

Bob Boyd said...

Not bussing creates jobs for Gen Z.

Matt said...

Before the internet, no one would have given a shit about this. But now, thanks to technology, we are exposed to 5 seconds of absolutley no importance.

techsan said...

They could have at least washed the dishes, dried them, put them away, swept the floor, washed the tables, and stacked the chairs.

stevew said...

Yeah, ok. Is it the sort of place where patrons are expected to clear their own tables, MacDonalds, BK, and the like? If not then I'm not sure about the point the video is supposed to make.

Iman said...

"What were the tips?"

Yes, that does come to mind...

I'm quite grateful for Generations X, Y and Z and whatever.

Their taxes send me a nice little check every month and they pay the bulk of any medical expenses I might run into.

And with the debt we've run up, the music will eventually stop and they'll be the ones without a chair, not me.

Thanks, guys.

They're not worried Rabel, they are banking on the robot singularity coming before the debt implosion. Never underestimate the power of American ingenuity.

Based on my experience back before I retired, I assume the ignorant waitress got the tables mixed up.

Also what Freeman Hunt commented at 6:02

The Hitler Youth had exemplary table manners, too.

rehajm said...

Bussing is part of the wait service...

I would have no idea how that stack was balanced. I’d have to take them apart and restack. A bit more work than the other table...

Thanks alot.

alanc709 said...

Why should we take the filmer's word that the Boomers left the messier table, anyway? What evidence is there? And she's not an unbiased reporter, so who's to say it wasn't Zoomers at both tables?

iowan2 said...

Most places we dine, dirty plates are bused as wait staff wander by. Rarely do we have a stack of dirty plates. I also read something not long ago, one of those articles that starts with, "you've been doing xxxx wrong all this time. It explained that wait staffed hated when customers stacked up dirty plates...Its true, I saw it on the internet.

AND....Freeman for the win!

This is dumb as hell and not at all a generational thing. And the boomers are in the right here. I waited tables for years and I disliked it when people would try to be “helpful.” Because they’d usually get in the way or make it more likely I’d spill on them or something.

Just be pleasant and tip well.

NorthOfTheOneOhOne said...

First off, such behavior is usually based on home training. At least in my experience.

Secondly, this video leads me to believe that the server/table buser must be a Millennial, because only a Millennial would take a job as waitstaff/buser in a full-service restaurant and expect the customers to bus the table themselves.

pacwest said...

Must have been a bunch of protester types at the messy table. For sure it wasn't a bunch of Tea Partiers. Just sayin.

David53 said...

During the holidays I usually tip 40-50%. Tip well, make someone feel good.

Bad table is normal. Other table had an obsessive compulsive....
Not nice to make fun of mentally ill. Waitress should be fired and doxxed.

So the Gen Z table was comprised of individuals who have degrees in women's studies and art history, and work as wait staff and baristas. They seem a little hypersensitive.

I always help pile dishes and put table stuff back. Make easy to access piles. gather and winnow. Sometimes, and yes this is rally OCD! i take the extra water and dump it somewhere useful - like a plant or outside on something dry. esp if I'm already outside.

Dear corrupt left, go F yourselves said...

Generational shaming is fun!

Dear corrupt left, go F yourselves said...

'course this is a signal that we must tip bigly AND bus our own tables. The staff have texting to do.

Chuck said...

The fundamental difference between Boomers and Gen Z-ers is that Gen Z might actually believe that a social media stunt like this is significant of ... something.

I wish I could have heard the Meadehouse banter when this was first considered for blogging; something like, Oh just wait until the commenters get ahold of this!

Bob Smith said...

If you think bussing tables and washing dishes is a s**t job try anything in agriculture. Couple of seasons following crops like my Grandfathr did, you’ll be begging to bus tables.

SomeoneHasToSayIt said...

I'm a Boomer and I always stack the dishes like that, to help the staff. Leave big tips too. So there's that.

SomeoneHasToSayIt said...

Read Jordan Peterson's 12 Rules For Life and you'll be like me, too.

Amadeus 48 said...

That is an OK, boomer joke.

Ha-ha.

I've never personally observed this, so I am skeptical. Also, boomers are generally between 73 and 55. I'll take the boomers very time for being responsible compared to any subsequent generation.

Amadeus 48 said...

That's every time, not very time.

See how responsible we are?

mockturtle said...

BleachBit observes: 'course this is a signal that we must tip bigly AND bus our own tables. The staff have texting to do.

While I always tip generously, I never stack plates. In fact, I've never even seen it done. Is this a Midwest thing?

Amadeus 48 said...

Never seen it myself. Probably an anti-boomer joke. Did they pitch any uneaten food into the compost bag?

And why the heck is Little Missy Snark coming upon this after the guests have left? Was she too deeply into lecturing some poor soul on something to pay any attention to her guests? I read a passive aggressive message from both groups of customers, showing alternative ways of dealing with lousy service. They probably worked together to leave an ironic message: since you ignored us, this is what we did.

Boxty said...

I think you guys missed the point. She was complaining that all the boomers used straws and the woke zoomers did not.

Mr. O. Possum said...

Imagine being the manager of this restaurant and finding that your server is mocking your customers. Worse, imagine being those customers and seeing this.

The waitress should be fired.

stlcdr said...

Ok zoomer.

Birches said...

There were only two glasses at that table and where were the used napkins?

Marc in Eugene said...

The #foryou page has been delivering above average entertainment in the last several days.

I hope the Chinese are satisfied with the value they're getting for their investment.

ambisinistral said...

Ever notice how Gen Xers are never involved in these sorts of things? It is because they are the whiners pointing fingers. They've been obsessed with this generational stuff, and how every other age cohort is wrong, wrong, wrong, for as long as I can remember.

They're going to be a joy in the Old Folk Home when they get there.
