Things I noticed on Tik Tok today. Tell us the order you like these and think about what that says about you.

I like the paper airplane, then the fishing (ratting?) bird

The squid seems fakely fake
As the saying goes; I like parachutes, but Why would you jump off a perfectly good world?
I can't even remember what the others were (but, one was too loud)

what it says about me
4 years, Civil Air Patrol
Fishing is Fun!

Beef squid guy says he ‘caught’ but looks more like he found a dead one. The hunt and capture would have worked, but he’s out...

Wing suit guys video filled about 1/3 the frame. Beef squid guy was a better videographer...also your jump was boring. (google wingsuit at the crack) Lees than beef squid guy..

Tiny treehouse house was too fast to judge but what we saw was at least earnest. You get second...

soo...winner by default is paper airplane guy. Told a whole story in a full frame, more or less...

What it says about me: I’m stuck at the airport.

TikTok has some fun content on it.

But remember, it's a fully owned Chinese company. It's also been under scrutiny over privacy national security concerns. I mean, no doubt the Chinese government could effortlessly compell TikTok to surrender any and all data they collect about their users (assuming they haven't already).

Paper airplane FTW. At least the paper airplane distance contest has a use in real life besides showing off.

Didn't have time to understand tree house.
Squid guy seemed fake.
Rat was real but sad.
Wing Suit almost always wins. But I can't figure out how they filmed it, so can't be sure it's real.
As was noted: Paper airplane wins by default.

What it says about me is that I watch a lot of fascinating videos thanks to the internet, modern cameras, and talented people. And that I am skeptical of anything I can't verify in my mind.

Paper Airplane (Real accomplishment, real emotion)
Rat (Real)
Wing Suit (Real, daring, but I don't know, maybe a little over controlled, which, of course, you'd better be with a wing suit!)
"Squid" (dopey)
Cabin (Ack! Too frantic and the soundtrack is incredibly annoying. Nice cabin).

Some sort of "authenticity" vibe apparently matters to me.

No. 1 I like the whimsey. Sadly, gentle humor is a dying art. More of these, please.

No. 2 Impressive digital effects that failed to move me. This is part of a resumé, as you may have surmised. The reduced resolution is intended to disguise the artifacts that often creep into Adobe Premier matte work. The content creator is saying give me access to the best DV workstation money and buy and I'll wow you.

No. 3 Herons often prey on small mammals. Some individuals are known to specialize on rats, and haunt places like storm sewer outlets which rats often exploit as hiding places during daylight. I don't care for the couple who filmed this bit of Nature so well adapted to humanity. They can't restrain their fucking puerile commentary which largely spoils the whole thing.

No. 4 Interesting... a real achievement. You don't get that kind of performace from folded paper by accident.

No. 5 Frustratingly frenetic. Such interesting architecture deserves a more leisurely treatment.

I liked the paper airplane one the best, then the bird catching the fish. Felt bad for the poor squid, who was just minding its own business and got dragged to shore. Found the music on the other two annoying.

Tiny treehouse house...

Huh? As treehouses go that one is palatial...

Typo alert: ...best DV workstation money and buy and I'll wow you.

Should read: best DV workstation money can buy and I'll wow you.

I didn’t see the heron video- didn’t load. Way to go heron! You get second...

Are people actually fooled by an inflatable beach toy, or are they just playing along?

Quaestor said...

Wing Suit (Real, daring...

Sorry, not real. The wingsuit guy was inserted using a chromakey matte over footage made with a drone.

For the one quick- and only- take I invested I observed lots of stairs, some tiny rooms with adult furniture and maybe some trees at the beginning. A structure previously called a playhouse, fort, or treehouse where children played but now reimagined as a place where adult aged people live is now sometimes referred to as a tiny house. I added the treehouse modifier since there were stairs and maybe trees to distinguish it from say a tiny house with wheels on it.

But make tour own call...

Squid by far. Then airplane. The rat-catching heron might be okay without sound as it's really ruined by the lady squealing that she got it on film.

"Sorry, not real. The wingsuit guy was inserted using a chromakey matte over footage made with a drone"

Ah, maybe I was picking up on that. It just didn't seem to have much "oomph".

i re-watched the wingsuit guy(watched the whole thing This time)
later part doesn't look fake; it looks CHEEP. A la Ed Woods

gilbar said...

Let's talk about the airplane!
It nearly hits the roof (which would have ended it)
It recovers from its stall, and Then BARELY clears the ground (which would have ended it)
THEN it goes straight and level, for max distance.

It wasn't just a great toss, of a great plane;
It was a calculated toss (for THAT ROOM), of a Plane, DESIGNED; for That Room)
It wasn't just good luck; it was PLANNED.... Which makes it a MILLION Times cooler!

gilbar said...

What Would Have Been SO COOL, Would have been,
IF the heron was waiting at the far end of the hanger, and speared the place as it went by

rcocean said...

Herons don't care if they're rats, it's down the hatch. That Cabin in Montana had a LOT of glass. Must be hard to heat during the winter.

Airplane contest winner: I assume they won something from the reaction. I hope it was a big prize.
Heron: poor bastard rat, but he is not eaten yet- lot of fight in a sewer rat, and the Heron should stay in his own lane and go eat a fucking frog or something.
Flying guy: kinda cool but kinda stupid- how ya gonna land Hot Shot?
Cabin: too fast and I did not know if the assignment let me watch it again--so I didn't.
Squid: Ok, you made your dad joke. now stop it.

Like a Rorschach test? The order says that I like structure and rules and that true achievement can be had within the system. A life is a 16 line sonnet, one can't alter the structure of a life- but within those 16 line you can write beautiful poetry.

I usually am not with the crowd, but the airplane contest got me. I've experienced the activity and that was a great toss. It was authentic.

The wingsuit was relaxing, but meh..

The others not so much.

Quaestor said...

My first comment listed the videos in the order that I watched them, not my order of preference. (Failure to follow instructions, a persistent bugaboo of my existence.) That would be 1, 4, 3, 2, 5.

Freeman Hunt said...

I like the airplane throw and the person in the squid one. I don't know why the cabin video exists. The drone one would be great without the guy in the wing suit.

Big Mike said...

I didn't much like any of them. What that says about me is that I have good taste in videos.

Fernandinande said...

I like numerical order first, then alphabetical, then Satanic.

clint said...

I liked the heron catching the rat and the paper airplane.

I feel like I would have liked the cabin, if it wasn't such a racing, claustrophobic tour.

The squid seemed lame.

The jumping one lost my interest before he even jumped and I didn't even watch the whole thing.

Quaestor said...

CHEEP.

Ah, the melodious warble of the rare two-hundred-pound canary.

Maillard Reactionary said...

Well I like Fernandistein's 5:22PM comment the best, but:

Giant squid
Blue Heron stealing caught fish
...other stuff...WTF?...

Conclusion: I am not too impressed with how people in this wealthy, peaceful, and reasonably orderly society use their leisure time. (I am open to the possibility that others may make the same judgment about me. So be it.)

I did not turn the audio on, but I doubt that would have changed the results much.

Yet another Android/iOS app designed to consume your data plan and incur those usurious over-quota charges.

I assumed it was some kind of penis joke......so, yeah!! I was playing along waiting for the punch line, but it never arrived.

Kind of a Rick-rolled moment.

Liked the airplane one best - the others all made me wonder if some kind of photoshopping was going on or some elaborate genre of fish stories or they overused special effects - like racing into the house - so they were all the same - I had no emotional reaction at all, just trying to understand a puzzle. But then I immediately began to picture a video to circulate within my family based on that fish video so perhaps I'd have to say that was #2. Maybe track a dinosaur across the snow.

It takes a lot of work to eat a rat
