It pains me to stereotype, but compare this...

News flash. Men and women are different and thank God for that.

Watch more nicemichael here.

The dancing reminds me of one of my all-time favorite videos (which I can't find on line anymore), "Randy Normal Jeans." (I can find audio, but not video.)

"Men and women are different..."

If they weren't, it wouldn't be possible to speak of being transgender.

Do you have any Male TikToks by men?

Ann Althouse said...

Here's one for you rehajm.

daskol said...

Both of those videos are for girls.

Rusty said...

Oddly enough I found neither entertaining. And the third one lost it's "man" impact because he was wearing a 'Marmot' hat.

Ken B said...

Althouse and Begley are to report for re-education.

Earnest Prole said...

If it pains you to stereotype you should steer clear of the interwebs.

stevew said...

My natural aversion to this sort of new new thing (TikTok) has been turned up to 11.

Goodness that is some silly stuff.

Ann Althouse said...

@Rusty What does it mean that you know the meaning of a Marmot hat? Is it manlier to know or not to know?

(Me, I don't know.)

bagoh20 said...

Lately, I've been getting "video failed to load" errors on these posts. I don't know why.

Wince said...

Haven't men been doing that over-the-belt thing with partially tucked shirts for decades to disguise a belly bulge?

Fernandinande said...

Woman of gender thought her center of gravity was lower.

daskol said...

Marmot meant something 10-15 years ago, particularly when it was a flleece or a vest worn by deca or centamillionaire Silicon Valley types. Now they're just good hats and jackets and other technical wear, devolved to the plebes. Judging by what I've seen, fancy people trying to look casual are back to Patagonia anyway.

Kelly,

I had to sit through an ad to see the ad (but it was worth it).

Stereotypes are time saving devices.
What's important is NOT the avoiding of stereotypes.
What's important is the ability to scrap the stereotype based on evidence.

rehajm said...

Here's one for you rehajm.

Thanks Ann, but whoa!...I think there needs to be controls on TikTok to modulate the maleness...

Exactly.

If Ruth Bader Ginsburg retired, she'd have plenty of time to watch Tik Tok.

Sebastian said...

"It pains me to stereotype"

Why? You don't think we are all creative, autonomous, stereotype-busting individual individuals as you fancy yourself to be, do you? Or do you?

If stereotypes happen to be mostly accurate, as Lee Jussim et al. have demonstrated at great length, does it pain you to face facts?

Anyway, just to be safe, considering your non-stereotypical timidity, better stick to highlighting male stereotyping next time.

AJ Ford said...

I like a lot of the female dancing videos on TikTok. The algorithm must, therefore, show me more of that, I see a lot of carpentry and dancing, not much clothing related vids.

buwaya said...

A mans hat is a Basque txapela. I rock a txapela. It also covers baldness!

The real ones are made only by Elosegui in Tolosa, accept no substitutes.

Unfortunately I dont think you can get them on Amazon.

daskol said...

Uh, I just googled that: on Amazon they're called berets.

Why hasn't Tarrantino used The Hustle in a movie? Is he saving it for his swan song 10th film?

Howard said...

Rusty links manhood to fashion accutrements because deep in his heart he knows that he does not carry a man card.

Howard said...

A man's hat is called a cover

Tom T. said...

As someone noted above, the (outward) genders of these people are different, and their approaches to TikTok are different, but their goals are the same: to entertain women.

Howard, I thought "cover" for "hat" was strictly a military thing?

Michael said...

Buwaya
I own and wear such a hat. Very warm. Very Eurp although it is very rare to see one in use in Spain or France, at least in the cities. Spanishshoponline.com. Sells them.

Birkel said...

Ken B,
Have you retracted your lie about me writing about the 33rd President?

A "life-changing" sweater hack. It will change your life!

n.n said...

The social standard of dress is normalized to establish a favorable juxtaposition of the male and female sexes. The male is on a progressive path to failure. Get a haircut! That said, at least he's not wearing shorts.

You didn't need Me to tell you that, after all; you're Way Smarter than I am

I loved "Randy Normal Jeans" too, and have looked for it. It's gone. I don't know why he would take it down. It's the best thing Pleaseeasaur ever did.

There is this bad recording of him overdubbing the video live: https://youtu.be/qyH3RKXeHo0

He's a strange act.

I don’t remember what foolish or false thing you said about Truman. Did you object to the Berlin airlift?

Ken B said...

Huh? He is wearing a baseball cap with a logo.

Proper hats include fedoras, cowboy hats, British flat caps, and berets.

Maillard Reactionary said...

His was better. He's still a douche, though. I'd like to see him try to replace a light switch.

Tough guys don't dance.

Birkel said...

No I did not, you dumb shit.
You should shut your lying trap.

Birkel said...

To all and sundry:

Ken B is a liar.
Adjust your contacts with him accordingly.

Maillard Reactionary said...

Birkel @3:17: I feel like I walked into a room and caught two people having a marital argument.

I know, I have to read the whole thread to understand, but I'm busy cooking sauce for Thursday's lasagne, so it's not going to happen.

We just got off of our time out. Don’t get us in trouble again.

Birkel said...

Ken B is running around lying about me.
And if he'll do that to me he'll do it to anybody else.
That is all.

Birkel said...

reader,
I self-censored to avoid that possible outcome.
What I first typed was intemperate.

Big Mike said...

@Althouse, no, it absolutely does not pain you to stereotype when it puts the female in the more positive light.

Ken B said...

Birkel
You kinda sound intemperate you know.
Lets review. You asked me a did you stop beating your wife sort of question accusing me of lying about you and Truman. I am willing to believe you said something foolish about Truman that I criticized you for, but have no idea what. Whatever it was I didn’t lie about you. You just accused me of lying for asking a question, so people can judge for themselves.

Phil 314 said...

Professor,
I don’t believe that it pains you.

Ann Althouse said...

"I loved "Randy Normal Jeans" too, and have looked for it. It's gone. I don't know why he would take it down. It's the best thing Pleaseeasaur ever did."

We saw him in person as the opening act to Neil Hamburger. I was completely unaware of him and actually a little annoyed that I'd have to sit through this manic, loud, half-recorded stuff while waiting for Hamburger to come on, but he TOTALLY won me over.

Birkel said...

No, you liar.
You're a liar.
And everybody on these boards will know it.

Ken B said...

You must be an advisor to the Democrats Birkel ...

Maillard Reactionary said...

A targeted (I emphasize the word) intervention is needed here.

Are you guys trying to prove the existence of male menopause, or something?

You overestimate how much anyone else here gives a shit.

Birkel said...

Things I think about Truman:
1. I am glad he made the difficult decision and ordered the atomic bomb drops.
2. His support for the New Deal was misplaced; price controls are bad public policy.
3. His administration was full of commies; McCarthy was correct.

There, now I have written things about Truman.

Birkel said...

Philippians,
You've never lied about me. The only reason I care about Ken B's lies is because he is sometimes taken seriously. I wouldn't be animated to call ARM, Ritmo, Inga, or Chuck a liar. Nobody takes them seriously. I don't feed those trolls.

But Ken B is a liar.

Birkel said...

LOLZ.You must have waited at least a year for an opportunity to say that, beta Howard.

Maillard Reactionary said...

Birkel (and Ken B), no problem, and I appreciate your acknowledgement of my comment.

We cannot control what other people think or say about us. There is nothing to be gained by disputing with them, in the long run.

Let us be content to be be judged by our own behavior, which is a severe enough test for any of us. (Read Marcus Aurelius for more detail on this line of thought.)
