He was already going to have to fight against attacks that he is too old to run for and be president. I think this will also affect Joe Biden. I've got a friend who's 78 now. He's had "heart problems" which require stents. In fact I think his heart holds more stents than Zsa Zsa Gabor had diamonds.

But his wife stoutly refuses to say that my friend has "had a heart attack". I don't know if she's accept use of the term "heart attack" if he had say bypass surgery. I've got other friends who'd had quadruple bypass surgery or multiple stents.

As for Bernie's health and age---age is the bigger issue. If he's had a couple of stents, or a pacemaker, I'd not get too concerned about his viability as a Presidential candidate. (Not that I'd vote for Bernie anyway. It's his politics I object to--his health, not so much.); 10/4/19, 6:11 PM

traditionalguy said...: Blockage of an artery that supplies the heart muscle is a heart attack. A stent reopens and holds open the blockages. It is done by cardio scope run up through the femoral artery. And while the Cardiologist is there, he look for other blocked arteries and stents them too while they are in there. It doesn’t always work for long and requires a By-pass later But it was not the widow maker blood clot blocking the descending aorta. If it was he would be dead.

Tomcc said...: About three years ago, a friend of mine (same age- about 58) had chest pain and had a stent placed. He recovered quite well and went back to a full work schedule within weeks. Bernie's quite a bit older, but I'd expect him to recover as well. Whether he wants to continue his campaign...who knows? It seems to pay pretty well.; 10/4/19, 10:40 PM

Yancey Ward said...: Yes, this will probably cost the candidate some of his support, and I imagine most of it will go to Warren, but I don't think Sanders will quit- it just isn't his nature- he is definitely a fighter, but he was never going to be the nominee this go round- he missed his chance in 2016 when he did what all the Democrats did- ignored Clinton's corruption. He needed to hit her with that early, and he might well have won the nomination and the presidency if he had.
