"Trump always fights. He will fight it to the very end. After all he's stood up to, it's bizarre to think he won't stand his ground now."

"He's a showman, into the narrative, and if all his enemies take arms against him, he will know he's the star of this show. He won't slink off like Nixon. And Nixon had his own party turn on him. That hasn't happened to Trump yet, but even if the GOP turned on him, it wouldn't be the same as with Nixon, because the GOP was never really on his side. It just aligned with him when it served its interests. He will be an even more poignantly heroic protagonist if his own party turns on him, and his people will love him to the end."

That's something I wrote on Facebook, after someone suggested that the Democrats may be thinking that Trump will, like Nixon, resign.

Trump will not resign. Period. Full stop. If the Republican RINOs don't understand that, they are even dumber and crazier than the progressives. The Democrats are now the party of Communists and criminals. The Republicans who are squishy might as well resign right now and let somewhat with guts run instead. The Civil Service needs reform and the reform is going back to the future where the President could fire almost any Federal employee at will. That is the only way to drain the swamp in the sense of no longer having it biased only one way. As for Bill Barr, if he doesn't have the guts to prosecute Democrats when he has clear cut evidence of criminal behavior then he should have the decency to go. When enough former officials see the inside of a jail cell that is when the tides of corruption will lessen.

Too bad he is forced to fight. His whole persona up until he went down the elevator was as a typical NYC liberal friend of blacks, gays and other minorities. He was slightly more fiscally conservative but that's about it.

True. But beside the point. Trump may well fight a fact-based impeachment effort, but so far we have no evidence for that because he has never faced a fact-based impeachment effort.

Interesting speculation over at Ricochet, which used to have quite a bit of NeverTrumper sentiment, about what it would be like if the Dims and the GOPe actually succeeded in impeaching Trump and removing him from office but he ran anyway in 2020 and was elected again.

I spend more time there as moderation gets sluggish. Interesting to watch them shift toward Trump.

The Wall Street Journal now runs front page stories full of lies, with no comments allowed. They are becoming the LA Times as we watch it happen.

Mr. Trump said he “was supposedly reading the exact transcribed version of the call, but he completely changed the words” to make it sound worse.

Mr. Schiff hadn’t said he was reading from the transcript, but had drawn complaints from Republicans that his comments were misleading. The president’s tweets Friday marked a continuation of his efforts to raise questions about the investigation into the call and the Democrats’ impeachment push.

This is a lie. Schiff was reading a fiction that he described as the transcript of the call.

He has to fight. Just like Kavanaugh had to fight. Just like Thomas had to fight.

When you don't fight, you end up like Romney or GW Bush during his meek second term.

The Left comes after you hard. They crave power and control, and view Trump has a major obstacle to such power and control.

If Trump is impeached, the Trial in the Senate has to convene quickly, acquit him fairly, and then we can have a decent election in Nov 2020. That's how democracy works (although, technically, we live in a Republic.)

Oh wait, you wrote some other stuff that kneecapped your opening statement. My bad.

I'm still waiting for a rational reason for Trump to resign other than career politicians hate that an outsider bested them. I get that Trump's existence means political advisors and years of working your way through the Party is a waste of time and resources. And that's a billion, if not trillion, dollar industry. People will fight hard to save an industry like that. But disruptive technology doesn't just resign because people lose jobs.

Great historical hypothetical. Many people forget, though, that the Right Wing and the CIA and the Cold Warriors despised Nixon, as much as the Left, albeit for different reasons.

My vague recollection was that Barry Goldwater and a few other rightwing Senators told Nixon in '74 he was done and needed to get out.

Nixon suffered from 2 problems. First, he had no real Republican fans. He was hatred by the Liberal Establishment, but Nixon only hated them in turn because they rejected him. He wanted to go to Harvard but couldn't. He wanted to work on Wall street but got rejected

Nixon was a moderate, internationalist Republican, who was conservative enough for the Right wing, and not too Conservative for the Rockefeller wing. He was everyone's 2nd choice. So when Watergate happened, nobody was willing to charge into battle & fight to the last man to support moderate Richard Nixon. And Nixon's "Moderate" Supporters never fought for anyone.

Trump loves to fight. He "loves the sting of battle". He goes out of his way to talk to hostile reporters and answer their loaded questions. Why would he EVER resign - unless for health reasons? Why would he give all the insane Trump haters a victory? Crazy to even think of it.

Nixon resigned because he could count votes with the best of them. Ditto Clinton who didn't. Let's wait until vote-counting time before we start guessing what Trump might do. So far nothing to encourage him to pass the baton to Pence (who I never got the sense is beloved by Trump).

rcocean said...

Even if the internet and cable TV had been around, I still think Nixon would've resigned. He was a born loser. Every time during the Watergate scandal, when he could've cut if off by making a bold decision or going to the american people, he shrank back and tried to find a compromised half-assed solution. He also paid the price for surrounding himself with Democrats, programmatic Republicans, and people who had zero loyalty to him. He agonized over decisions and made a lot of bad ones.

Trump, OTOH, has no problem making big decisions and going for bold solutions or going over the heads of Congress directly to the people.

What's different is that Nixon was as guilty as sin and he knew it. He also knew that everyone else with a brain in their head who was following the matter also knew it.

Excerpt from Nixon's resignation speech:

"...From the discussions I have had with Congressional and other leaders I have concluded that because of the Watergate matter I might not have the support of the Congress that I would consider necessary to back the very difficult decisions and carry out the duties of this office in the way the interests of the nation will require.

I have never been a quitter.

To leave office before my term is completed is abhorrent to every instinct in my body. But as President, I must put the interests of America first."

("Particularly because I'm as guilty as sin.")

How The House Plans To Use Its ‘Inquiry’ To Instigate Impeachment

Proof of media coordination

So what is behind the coordinated media and Democrat campaign to drum up an “impeachment inquiry”? In one 24-hour period, the media rolled out the same Trump-Ukraine story with the same angle and often the same talking points within the same few hours on CNN, the Intelligencer, The New York Times, The New Yorker, The Guardian, Vox, Vanity Fair, and The Daily Beast, to name a few examples.

More tellingly, the phrase “in plain sight” appears over and over again in the supposedly independent media outlets that, in theory, wrote the articles at the same time, making it difficult or impossible for them to have directly copied from each other. Google search results bury the first dissenting coverage near the bottom of the second page. Of course they’re colluding with each other and coordinating with Democrats, but that’s another article for a different day.

There's zero chance Trump resigns. And if it becomes clear that the Senate GOP turns on him, Trump will abuse his power in myriad ways to burn the motherfucker down. And it will be both glorious and frightening.

He will declassify EVERYTHING that would make his opponents and predecessors and fair-weather friends look bad, grimy and/or compromised. Expect to read more transcripts of presidential calls made by Clinton and Obama (and Bush, if necessary).

He's a fighter to a fault and I fear he would minimized or disregard the real risks to the nation of that kind of behavior. For those thinking about why Nixon got entangled in Watergate, I recommend Pat Buchanan's book. "Nixon's White House Wars." Pat is as conservative as they come and was disappointed in Nixon's first term but had high hopes for the second.

The Watergate press was as vicious as today's. Walter Cronkite described Pat's brother, an accountant who did work for the RNC, as "money laundering." That was a lie and Pat's brother sued CBS and Cronkite for slander. The court threw out the suit on the basis that the Buchanan brother was "a public figure," similar to the tactic the press will use on the Covington boys. All "public" only because of the slander.

UkraineGate turns out to be a bullhorn for exclaiming Biden's corruption. And -- with Crowdstrike being looked at -- opening up Hillary's can of unpleasant worms yet again.

Trump is obviously not a pure man: no one in big business / big-city real estate & construction is.

But he seems to sense what is generally right and wrong in his transactions, and seems to adhere to them far more than the politicians and media that willfully diminish their integrity over the smallest things in the hopes of Getting Him This Time.

Which is when the Althouse-overlap came to be. The Bob Dylan line "But to live outside the law, you must be honest" popped up in my mind, and -- in regard to this thinking about Trump -- it seemed like I had finally had a moment of real-world understanding of that lyric.

I would be curious to see what Althouse might make of that connection.

What are those risks, bleh? Seriously, what risks are more important than exposing the brazen mendacity of our elected leaders? Foreign problems? Uh, any nation that decides to stop being friends with us could have their nationals expelled from the United States. For starters.

Nonetheless, you are very, very optimistic about things. If more than five Senators tell the American people, "Just kidding! We're secret Democrats!" that is the day the Senate will end. Perhaps non-violently, but I rather doubt that. Trump can and will get his fanatically loyal followers to deal with his enemies all over the country. Paul Ryan was the saboteur of Trump's agenda.

Paul Ryan, demonstrating that the enemy within is more dangerous than the one outside the walls.

Ryan may not be through. According to Vanity Fair, he will be joining the seven-member board of the Fox Corporation, which will be run by Rupert Murdoch's eldest son, Lachlan. In this position, Ryan will have a role in, among other things, overseeing Fox News. That is unfortunate. For realize that the purveyors of fake news whom the Trump-nation loves to hate (Jim Acosta of CNN, Rachael Maddow of MSNBC, and Chuck Todd at NBC, and all the rest) are not independent journalists. They are more like puppets whose strings are pulled by corporate higher-ups from behind the scenes and out of public view. With his position on the board of Fox Corporation, Ryan will now, to some degree, be one of those puppet masters in shadows. Now, that's a sobering thought.

Update from Thomas Lifson:

According to Vanity Fair:

Among the powerful voices advising Lachlan that Fox should decisively break with the president is former House speaker Paul Ryan, who joined the Fox board in March. "Paul is embarrassed about Trump and now he has the power to do something about it,"

Biden's broad vague, Bart Simpson-like denial:

There’s nothing anybody in my family did wrong ... at all,” Biden told the friendly crowd, according to a press pool report.

Oh really? A few pertinent questions for Joe:

1. On January 23, 2018, at the Counsel of Foreign Relations, did you discuss your role, as Vice President, in approving foreign aid to the Ukraine?

2. At that event, did you discuss the firing of Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin?

3. At that event, did you state: “I said, ‘You’re not getting the billion.’ I’m going to be leaving here in, I think it was about six hours. I looked at them and said: ‘I’m leaving in six hours. When a real vote is called, Sasse will grovel about impossible decisions, and democracy, and patriotism, and the children, but he will always vote to save his seat in the Senate. The same big deal is make of those 7 Dems in Trump districts. They talk a big story. Wait to see what their actions are. More is coming out about the "whistleblower hoax.

It now looks like the Lawfare network constructed the Schiff Dossier, and handed it to allied CIA operative Michael Barry to file as a formal IC complaint. This process is almost identical to the Fusion-GPS/Lawfare network handing the Steele Dossier to the FBI to use as the evidence for the 2016/2017 Russia conspiracy.

Nunes is on it and more will be coming out.

They have nothing. And proof of that is what Adam Schiff said in his opening statement.

"Shorn of it's rambling character and in not so many words this is the essence of what the President communicates" and then he goes on to completely fabricate what Trump said to Velensky.

Why did he do this?

1) Because what Trump actually said isn't bad.
2) Because he didn't believe Trump would actually release the transcript.
3) Because this was meant to make headlines and get halfway around the world before the truth could put it's boots on.

This wasn't a parody.

He presented it as a paraphrase.

The Clintons changed everything, because it made it clear that Democrats had no actual ethical standards. Whether it was politically pressuring the FBI to investigate people for political gain (see the White House Travel Office), committing perjury and obstruction of justice to cover up an affair, or accepting massive illegal campaign contributions from the Chinese while giving China Most Favored Nation trade status, Democrats rallied in support around Mr. & Mrs. Felon-in-Chief-of-the-United-States.

And while it was just barely imaginable to come up with an excuse for that, while one might have a shred of sympathy for thinking they were so shocked by losing the House in 1994 that they felt they had no choice but to rally around an embattled President, then came primary season for the 2016 election. Twenty years later, free to chose from hundreds of millions of Americans meeting the constitutional qualifications for office, the Democratic Party collectively decided that it would try to put the felonious duo back in the White House.

Democrats made it absolutely, unequivocally clear that they do not, even in the slightest, give a good goddamn about criminality and abuse of power by a President. That all they are saying when they claim someone is unfit for office is that the person accused has the wrong political opinions. That every last drop of outrage over every alleged Republican scandal had absolutely nothing to do with law or ethics, but was instead purely outrage that any Republican every held any power ever.

The correct and entirely sufficient response to any ethical charge from a Democrat against a Republican is, "Go away, troll." Nothing more is needed, because whatever the denotation of the words in the accusation, the actual content is nothing more than "He's a Republican!"

The events of this week reveal the new standard. Like sharks to a whale carcass, our elites routinely feast upon precarious situations in other nations: The Podesta Group, Hunter Biden, and others were content to make a buck off the tensions in Ukraine along with Paul Manafort, just as the Clintons and others were happy to take tens of millions of dollars from Russian oligarchs. We all know that Manafort would be sitting in a house in Malibu right now with the same immunity deal the likes of Podesta, Biden, and the Clintons apparently possess if only he had never decided to work for Donald Trump."

Some of you are pushing back against my prediction of Trump potentially doing "widespread, indiscriminate harm" if he feels desperate. Mind you, I'm not predicting that Trump would purposely try to harm the nation. All I'm saying is you have to assume that Trump has classified documents at his disposal that he would want to use to defend himself -- and those documents are classified for a reason. Trump would be playing a dangerous game with sensitive documents at a time when the nation is already being torn apart by a stupid impeachment process.

My sincere hope is that Trump's reputation as a ruthless brawler will scare Congress into backing off before it's too late. Weirdly, Trump's perceived lack of honor might be exactly what's needed to avoid a true constitutional crisis (or worse).

Here is something seriously strange. The Disclosure of Urgent Concern Form located earlier today at DNI is only two days old according to its pdf properties.

this version of the form (datestamp Sep 25, 2019) permits submission of second-hand material, which was not permitted according to document entitled Information About Filing a Disclosure of Urgent Concern posted on Sep 23, 2019 here

So in the midst of this unprecedented CIA leak/"whistleblow", the DNI changes its Urgent Disclosure Form. What was it before?

Pedro Israel Orta
@PedroIsraelOrta
IC IG ICWPA Form 401 dated 24 May 2018 requires “urgent concerns” to be about an “intelligence activity,” be “reliable first-hand knowledge,” and not be “second-hand knowledge.”

Maguire was named Acting Director on August 8. During this period of DNI turmoil, DNI Disclosure of Urgent Concern form was revised. Was Maguire informed? Who authorized and advanced revision of form? Did CIA Operative WB complete new or old form?

bottom line: it appears almost certain that, subsequent to the CIA operative "WB" complaint, the DNI introduced a brand new Urgent Disclosure Form which offered a previously unavailable alternative to report allegations with no personal knowledge

That strikes me as a very good question.

Why didn't Trump initiate an official government investigation of Biden's corruption through Barr and the DOJ? If there was actual evidence of that corruption, why take the back door route through Ukraine and why use Trump's personal lawyer, rather than official investigators? Could it be that there was no evidence, and Trump sent Rudy to persuade the Ukes to manufacture some?

Surely Trump would have been able to foresee that sending a bumbling stooge like Rudy on this ham-handed mission would leave him open to false charges from the leftist meanies, no?

When Nixon lost the California Governor race in 1962, he announced that his political career was through. When Nixon's tapes were supoenaed, he turned them over instead of burning them. Can you imagine Trump doing the same? What about the Dems? Hell! We know what Hillary would have done. Do you imagine Warren, or Sanders, or Harris would have folded?

Now, getting hold of those servers that supposedly were used to hack the DNC (and Hillary?) and see what forensic IT specialists could find in there, that he would be interested in. That would be fresh territory.

You know My name is Rock [7x]

So hey punk, feel the funk
Feel the wrath of the rock
Non stop, i got a glock in my pants
I don't dance, i sit around
I don't sip 40's, i pound
I been around too long, commin too strong
Kid Rock got it goin on
See me, see you, see through, emcee's who knew
Fly like the wind, i hang like a hinge
Been gone like rhymes on a drinkin binge
So don't cringe at the sight of Rock
Ya wanna fight the rock, ya gotta fight this glock
And you can say my beats are fake
But it don't mean shit when your gettin paid
Hip-Hop, the jam don't stop

You know My name is Rock [7x]

I'm the D to the O, P to the D
O to the straight up G see
I been around like Jesus layin tracks
But i had to come back, i had to come back
Back from the dead, enough said
Still trippin like Fred
Be red, ya got a head full of holes
I got a head full of bowls
I'm the K-I straight from the D, punk
From the home of the B funk
Aint no frontin here, i wont disapear
I'll be around next year
I'm the Jiffymack
In the rack, writin off for some ify crack
Last year, this year it's all the same
But you know my name is Rock
You know My name is Rock [8x]
K-I-D's the name

Fly with new blast, get gas
Kid Rock some folks thought i'd flew right past
Faded fast, ran outta gas
Here i come again, all back in that ass
No questions, i tell no lies
Rely Kid Rock is on the rise
Like a sky scraper
I'm back like smack, and so are the vapors
And the papers, cause i'm gonna rhyme
Right, jump right back up into the lime light
And i'm rackin my brain where the pain was
No i got more soul than the train does
Mid western funkin, car pumpin from the amps in the trunkin
Ya cant stop this boy, this time
I'm the real macoy
And you know My name is Rock

Dreams, there’s a note in my program that says “the part of Megyn Kelly is now played by Chris Wallace,” and from what I saw today that is what happened. I wonder why Chris Wallace, Shepard Smith, Judge Nap, and the news side of the WSJ all chose this weirdly craptastic story to come out full-retard on Trump? And it’s the same week that old turncoat Paul Ryan joined Dow Jones board! Hmmm.

I share bleh's sentiments. Trump will not go quietly into the good night and has the power to do lots and lots of damage to the existing political establishment. This could spill over into a crisis no one could have predicted. I can't argue with that. The day Trump grounded the democrats from taking their junket flights during the govt. shutdown proved to me he was different and was not afraid of the democrats. Maybe the democrats should start being afraid of Trump for the sake of our country.

Trump will not resign. He doesn't quit. Nixon was a quitter who knew he was going to be convicted, and the GOP of those days hated him more than today's Country Club Republicans hate Trump. With the possible exception of Billy Kristol.

I think it would be great if Trump said he was taking precautions by erecting a bunker under the Whitehouse, Just a back up measure, in case the Democrats managed to cross the Bernauer Straße.

Nixon was among other issues hooked on fistfuls of pills. I think it drove him off the cliff. I believe the stories about his faith, his treatment of White House staff -- good stories. But he became unhinged.

I wonder why we don't hear more about Trump the teetotaler. It's a rare thing today. It gives him an advantage. He was the only sober person in New York City in the Seventies.

Maybe off topic, maybe not.

I feel sometimes as though none are more guilty than the law professors who taught how to industrialize, for profit, the murder of future-babies, or indeed now babies themselves. I hope they never for an instant wonder who taught others to murder. Just blame the Bible and then ban it seems apropos. What else could law professors conjure up?

I realize it's a reflection of some vast pathology I am trying to project onto others, these comments, but I am still fascinated by the others I choose to project this vast pathology, io ipso, onto.

Guildofcannonballs said...

Having taught others how to murder babies for profit industrially and ridicule as deplorable those who disagree every way with this barbarity, where do you go next for your kicks?

Not being a low professor, I wouldn't know, now would I.

God bless.

Now, getting hold of those servers that supposedly were used to hack the DNC (and Hillary?) and see what forensic IT specialists could find in there, that he would be interested in. That would be fresh territory.

Maybe that's what the Democrats really want to stop. They want to freak out Ukrainian officials so they don't turn it over. Because in the whole election meddling! story, we should supposedly applaud Trump trying to get those servers.

Temujin said...

There's so much being said. The basics are that there has been a ton of collusion with foreign countries- to bring down Trump. For 3+ years, in many ways, this has been going on, and it has involve the highest levels of our government, sitting House & Senate members, the FBI, CIA, NSA, State dept., and the entire bloviating media.

We all see it. We've watched it now for years. Yet they're continuing to work to remove the elected President.

I'm telling you, if they pull the trigger on this they will open up a revolution of some sort. (either at the ballot box or in the streets).

And I will say for the rest of my life: There should not be a Democrat elected again for 2 generations.

Nixon had a sense of guilt and repented by being a scholarly elder statesman. You should re-watch Stone's "Nixon"... on the whole, it delivers high praise to the great man.

Why must he fight?

“If by law one means a code that binds the state as well as the individual, specifies what is and is not permitted, and eliminates arbitrariness, then Lenin entirely rejected law as “bourgeois.” He expressed utter contempt for the principles “no crime without law” and “no punishment without a crime.” Recall that he defined the dictatorship of the proletariat as rule based entirely on force absolutely unrestrained by any law. His more naïve followers imagined that rule by sheer terror would cease when Bolshevik hold on power was secure, or when the New Economic Policy relaxed restrictions on trade, but Lenin made a point of disillusioning them.”
