I often find un-extinguished campfires and have to use my limited on-board water supply to put them out. All it takes is a stiff wind to revive the embers and scatter them into the dry foliage. Some people are apparently clueless about wildfires.
Oh man. Well, only my second time, so that's good, i guess.
I'm a little stressed (opposite of serene) today. Working in advance of hoping on a flight to Europe tonight. Looking forward to 8 serene days in Italy with mrs. stevew. Please note that I am not concerned about my carbon footprint for the trip. And I will endeavor to not be one of those tourists we all dislike so much.
So... because you had 2 and not just one place, you decided to make a *third* place to talk about this negative feeling of yours, right under my photographs that showed the peaceful scene on the lake at sunrise. Talk about normalizing degeneracy!
Degeneracy is the decline from a higher to a lower type.
What is "such a downer" about expressing scepticism about these articles that seem to be competing to be ever more outré on a fashionable, or rather faddish, subject?
I agree with mockturtle (not that there’s anything unusual in that). It’s important to make certain that all the embers are out before you leave a campsite. I have seen houses burned down to the foundation from a wildfire, and it is a truly sad sight. In this case there’s doubly no excuse — the site is right next to a lake.
I love these overcast cool days in late summer, while the leaves are still lush and full and green. A nice change to sunshine, but in winter the sun never gets old.
“The Testaments: The Sequel to The Handmaid's Tale”
I have a pre order just waiting for tomorrow! I’ve been waiting for sequel to Handmaid’s Tale for years. A nice pleasant break from all the Trump anxiety. (That’s a joke.)
I like your morning lake photograph. Morning is quiet (if away from people), the day is fresh and full of promise, and Nature has not put on its public daytime face yet, and has a certain vulnerability that is hard to see at midday.
Most of my best photographs have been made in the morning... and often at lakes.
If you're a good guy with special fighting skills, stop with taking daughters or nieces to public events where they will run off and get kidnapped so as to get you to give up to kidnappers' demands. If I've seen it once I've seen it a thousand times.
Kids will never learn if they don't suffer the consequences of their own actions, and the scripts will improve.
Netflix has a spy series on. So, I looked up the real guy , Eli Cohen.
This sounds like one of the wilder Epstein theories.
"Cohen continued his social life as he had in Argentina, spending time in cafes listening to political gossip. He also held parties at his home, which turned into orgies for high-placed Syrian ministers, businessmen, and others, who used Cohen's apartment "for assignations with various women, including Defense Ministry secretaries, airline hostesses, and Syrian singing stars." At these parties, such highly placed officials would "talk freely of their work and army plans. Cohen, who would feign intoxication, remained sober and listened carefully. In addition to providing loans to government officials and acting as an avid host, he was asked for advice by government officials, who were often intoxicated by the alcohol he freely provided. Cohen himself was not above the spicier part of a spy's life; he had seventeen lovers in Syria, all dazzling beauties with a fair degree of family power."
Inspired by the next thread with its hundreds of comments I searched "You talk too much".
"You get a green light during the first 20 seconds. “Your listener is liking you, as long as your statement is relevant to the conversation and hopefully in service of the other person.” Yellow light for the next 20 seconds. “Now the risk is increasing that the other person is beginning to lose interest or think you’re long-winded.” At the 40-second mark, your light is red. “Yes, there’s an occasional time you want to run that red light and keep talking, but the vast majority of the time, you’d better stop or you’re in danger.”
“We all know how to be silent. The question is: Can we withstand the pressure to speak?”

I did check. My mistake was when I got to the bottom of the page where it says:

I thought that was the end. Although now I see the article continues beyond that. Thank you so much for taking the time to point out my mistake.
Althouse: Really, Fen, your commenting needs improvement.
No, it really doesn't. It's been very sharp lately, more than usual. You are just saying that because I challenged you yesterday on another topic and you are holding a grudge. You sure you want to play that game? Because I am more stubborn than you.
Althouse: I'm going to start deleting you a lot more, beginning with this comment in half an hour. You may copy what you've written and attempt to rewrite it. If you don't want to go to the link and read or you need and don't want to get a subscription, you need to be circumspect about what you say is in the article.
OH. GO. FUCK. YOURSELF.
I will now happily copy everything I post here to repost 10 times over every time you delete it. And if you manage to ban this profile I will make several more and do it all over again.

You can front page a public apology to me for being a vindictive bitch and singling me out because I had the audacity to challenge you on something stupid. What was it again? Oh right, I said I was "skeptical" that you were aware of the NPC meme. LOL.

They are treating this as a Cafe post, talking about your theme for the day--normalizing degeneracy.
does anyone have a red ink pen? and a calendar ?
'cause; Mark this day in red! I agree with (something that) purplepenguin (said)
@Darrell
They were aiming comments at the previous post and missed.
This is a café post though. That's fine.

If I'm wrong, I'm sorry... but you can see that I didn't like "normalizing degeneracy" commentary coming up first on my serene sunrise photographs!
Both previous posts.
So, a general comment.
Sorry, Hagar. It was such a downer.

Sorry, stevew. You can see my thinking on the subject. Don't take it personally.
Not to worry. Your blog, your rules, no argument from me.

Love that sunrise. Shiveringly cool air? A rising breeze? It always makes me excited and hopeful for what the day may bring.

I find unextinguished fires all the time. It's a wonder everything hasn't burned down yet. What is wrong with people?

6:30 a.m. is about when I go to McDonald's to pick up breakfast about once a week. Big treat!
It'd be a good idea to listen to "Cosmic Slop", Funkadelic/Parliament, "Hardcore Jollies" album (1976) while eating said breakfast.
What is wrong with people?

Is Dorian spinning out to sea without making landfall? Because that was my prediction back when it was stalling off Florida.
I need to go back and frame that comment, because it will have broken my unlucky streak of something like 0-16.
Dorian flooded Ocracoke Island pretty well. Does that count?

That, and someone with important info won't say it over the phone and winds up dead.

BTW, I trust that you extinguished those embers before you left the fire pit, right, Althouse?
