ADDED: Why are people referring to that makeup as "brownface"? It's as dark as any blackface I've seen. I know, he says it was an Aladdin costume, but doesn't that make it worse? He was overdarkening for the character he purported to play.
Fox News headline: "CNN's Don Lemon knocks Trump while praising Justin Trudeau's apology over brownface photo."
"I shouldn't have done that. I should have known better, but I didn't and I'm really sorry," Trudeau told reporters. "I take responsibility for my decision to do that. I shouldn't have done that. I should've known better. It was something that I didn't think was racist at the time but now I recognize that it was something racist to do and I'm deeply sorry."...As if Don Lemon would honor an apology from Trump! Trump doesn't apologize because it wouldn't work. It would backfire. Trudeau seems to be apologizing because it's the only approach he can come up with. The question is whether apologies are going to be accepted, and who believes they'll be accepted equally, regardless of which side you're on vis a vis the the apologizer? It's like calls for civility. In present-day American political discourse, they're always about getting the other side to tone it down. That's why my tag for the discussion of civility is "civility bullshit." I feel the same way about calls for apologies (within present-day American political discourse). They're always bullshit.
"Wow, a leader apologizing. It seems odd, doesn't it?" Lemon reacted. "Because we have one who doesn't.... I do have to say this before we go: think about it however you want to think about it. When someone apologizes- wow!... We don't often see that here, especially in a world leader who is saying 'I should've known better and I'm sorry.' You can feel about it however you want, but that, to me, that does mean a lot."

Drudge needs to calm down.
Is that a fellow teacher or a student of Trudeau's.
Because of his hand placement, I see a different set of problems.
In either case.
I’ve never seen an Arab that dark.
How long before the media go after the blind and the brunette? They are going to wish they had klan hoods on.
MEH...we have a governor and Attorney General in Virginia that did the same, and still have their jobs. Their lefties...so it's quite okay.
It's cute that some people still pretend to believe liberals are held to the same standard and consequences they hold everyone else to.
Besides, brownface is totally different from blackface.
Mr PoPo from Dragonball
We need a US President who will do something about all the White Supremacists on the North American continent!
An actual reading would be that the black guy has to be rich and white because the girls are happy to have him touching them. So it's the racism of the girls that ought to be in question.
Canada is into British Empire stuff. They dream of days when they ruled over all the peoples the sun never set upon. The White Man's Burden.
Federal elections are coming up and the Tories are up by 1%. This won't have to swing many votes to put a serious hurt on the Liberals. Their best hope is that anyone driven away will go left (NDP) instead of right (Tories) and the liberals can still lead a coalition government (which is currently their best hope anyway).

Because nuance is not the friend of activists.
Perhaps he wanted to be Mr PoPo..??

There is a strange disconnect in this election.
People don't watch tv, and don't read the newspapers.
This photo and the fuss is going to be the first time a very large number of voters start paying attention to the election. The Liberals have been very very quiet; the snc-lavelin scandal is an undercurrent, Trudeau didn't participate in a debate, and isn't taking to the media. Their campaign is one of demonization, the conservatives are closet racists.
Then this. I would bet that the girl is a student, he was a teacher there. This is going to get worse.
Canadians punish political parties and leaders. There is lots of simmering discontent but nothing to pin it on. Now there is. Trudeau will make it worse and the liberal party reaction will be even worse.
Break out the popcorn.
'Brownface'? 'BROWNface'?
When does Don Lemon, Anderson and Fredo apologize for all of their Fake News?
"Wow, a leader apologizing. It seems odd, doesn't it?" Lemon reacted.
As if the previous occupant of the White House wasn't one of the most arrogant SOBs. He only apologized to our enemies.
> "Wow, a leader apologizing. It seems odd, doesn't it?"
No. Lefty politicians are notable for sucking up to the latest fashion in outrage. It is a dangerous world on the Left and only the most cowardly survive.
President JEB! was very good at apologizing.
With Trudeau, I'm struggling to understand exactly what he is apologizing for.

The reaction is nothing compared to that from viewing a 500 SL Mercedes.
I guess Sir Alec Guinness’s estate must now apologize for “Lawrence of Arabia”. I’m not sure if it’s necessary for Anthony Quinn’s since he was technically brown already.
Of course, dozens of people had to know. The surprise is that this didn't come out earlier. I guess the lib protection racket works in Canada too.
There is no apology that can approach the Full Canadian Grovel.
If student: using a position of power to impose himself on a young girl in a sexualized way
If colleague: clear case of workplace sexual harassment
Feminists: Prove me wrong!
Oh, now we have three instances where he wore blackface. All of a sudden all these photos are appearing.
This is amazing. The last election was characterized by female reporters getting the vapors when he took off his shirt. All of a sudden this stuff is appearing?
Maybe that pasty faced Sheer has some balls. Maybe Trump has stiffened the spines of conservative politicians. You want to play gutter politics? Game is on.
Next up: CongressCritter apologizes to Electorate for passing bad Legislation.
Nice pun, Ann: "In present-day American political discourse, they're always about getting the other side to tone it down." Seems that's true in Canada, too . . . or, should Trudeau have "toned it up"!?
My worldview is that the left commit every sin they denounce but they get away with it because 1) they are in the same tribe as the media/academia/etc. and 2) they hide their sins under a mask of virtue. The only reason this virtue mask doesn’t get ripped off is because of point 1) above. Who’s going to do it? You start ripping masks off and yours could be next.
Then came Trump. Trump is the world’s greatest mask-ripper-offer. He does it directly — Pocahontas ring a bell? — and indirectly by stimulating his haters into doing the work for him.
Trust me, this Trudeau thing is all about Trump.
Is there anything Trudeau could have said that wouldn't have been praised and compare favourably to Trump by the Don Lemonists of the world?
Don't wear blackface, and it's cultural appropriation. Wear blackface, and it's racist.
When did we start playing "Calvinball" with our culture?
Rumor has it Justin is a spawn of Fidel Castro. That would make him a white hispanic in brownface.
If Justin Trudeau was entirely sincere in his contrition would he have not confessed to his racially insensitive shenanigans when he was a mere backbencher, long before he achieved the leadership of the Labour Party, something along the lines of you might not want to name me, Faux-laddin, to this post 'cause it might prove embarrassing, eh?
Wear all the blackface you want. It's an idiotic rule. Why did anybody go along with it in the first place.
It's part of the pretense that blacks are sacred.

"I’ve never said I’m a perfect person, nor pretended to be someone that I’m not. I’ve said and done things I regret, and the words released today on this more-than-a-decade-old video are one of them.
Anyone who knows me knows these words don’t reflect who I am. I said it, I was wrong, and I apologize. I’ve traveled the country talking about change for America, but my travels have also changed me. I’ve spent time with grieving mothers who’ve lost their children, laid-off workers whose jobs have gone to other countries, and people from all walks of life who just want a better future. I have gotten to know the great people of our country, and I’ve been humbled by the faith they’ve placed in me. I pledge to be a better man tomorrow and will never, ever let you down."
Yesterday in conversation the election came up. Oh yeah, when is it? The signs are just starting to show up. Very few people consume Canadian media.
Now they are paying attention, something like driving by a head on collision.
There are vanishingly few black people in Canada. Some small communities here and there, some immigrant populations. Lots of South asians. Our sense of racism is a holier than thou view of the US. Trump the racist wants to close the border, Trudeau the Enlightened opens the border. The self righteousnessness and condescension drips off these people.
This is truly delicious.
No fidels kids are very smart, even margaret was as faithful as a minx.
If he was in blackface it would be an insult to African Americans, commonly known as Blacks.
Since he isn't portraying an African, but a brown arab/Indian, saying "blackface" would give the wrong headline connotation. Thus "brownface"
I'll be honest. I've never understood why blackface is offensive. If a person of some other race wore "whiteface," it would mean absolutely nothing to me. I realize there's a negative history in our country, but why should that prohibit anyone else from wearing it? People need to learn that they can choose not to be offended. If they are offended, no one else is obligated to defer to their feelings. That's especially the case when it's a contrived offense, i.e. something that we're supposed to be offended by.
This country would be a much better place if everyone learned to say the words, "I don't care if you're offended. Get over yourself." In his own way, Trump is doing that constantly, which is one more reason I love the man.

I've noticed most reports are calling it brownface too. Is that a lesser transgression to the PC hive-mind than blackface?
"Wow, a leader apologizing. It seems odd, doesn't it?"
An apology only means something IF it is actually sincere.
Apologizing merely so that you can get out of trouble that YOU caused is just lying.
A fake apology is worse than no apology at all.
I wonder if Corey Booker will still be talking up his friend, Trudeau, in the next debate?
And when he said, "“I can’t stand how [Canada is] out-Americaning us”, little did he know how right he was.
So Justin Trudeau did something that - if done by a non-leftist - would make him an unperson and Lemon concludes the problem is Trump.
These people have nothing intelligent to say on any subject.
He is liberal move on nothing to see here. One or two days of fake outrage then forgotten. Now if it was conservative Front page news for weeks.
Lemon is not aware that Canadians apologize for any and everything. Which in the current circumstance might be a problem for Trudeau.

I can see where minstrel type blackface is offensive, but this is just cosplay. It apparently wasn't offensive at the time because he dressed up so for a public party and was happy to smile for the photo. I just don't think it's fair to keep moving the scrimmage line and then calling people offsides..... His big sin is hypocrisy. I'm not familiar with the thoughts and writings of Trudeau. Has he ever defended anyone caught up in a similar contretemps? If so, I'd give him a pass. If not, I'd hold him to the post hoc standards he opposed on others......I think Beyonce is more attractive with blonde hair. I hope this controversy doesn't inhibit women from dying their hair. We're on a slippery slope here.
My older daughter was made up like a zombie one Halloween. I put greenish facial compound on her face and dark circles around her eyes. Maybe she needs to make a public apology to all zombies out there. This cultural appropriation idiocy needs to stop.
Looks like an equally serious case of blackhand too. Yes, that's black, not brown. Or maybe that's Canadian Brown. They got their own bacon after all.
Why do faces get all the attention, ask the hands. Facial privilege, that's why. It's always 'Hands off" or "Give me a hand". So presumptuous. Hands have had it with this prejudice. Hands deserve and demand equality with faces without being called "touchy."

Like life, comments find a way. I don't expect anyone to read this, but Fen, why not let the people celebrate the hilarious collapse of Justin Trudeau? Good luck getting an apology from Ann: it would be the simplest solution, and it's clear you're determined to shut down the comments otherwise. This is the least offensive thing about Trudeau. There's no reason he should have ever been Prime Minister of Canada and no one would have ever heard of him IF his last name was not Trudeau. But, as it is, it makes his 'Salute to Moorish Canadians' all the more problematic.
Or does it?
Seriously, if are going to spend the next 20 years looking over photos from peoples college years, or their texts from 25 years ago, or holding breathless congressional investigations over something someone's friend once may have said to a waitress in a bar, then we're all screwed here. Brownface is used because blackface sounds worse. Blackface is in the dictionary and autocorrect but brownface isn’t, it was made up to mitigate.
Note that Trudeau *also* worse minstrel style blackface on another occasion.

I would think that this comment abuse constitutes harassment, maybe aggravated harassment with a wire, and it would seem that some criminal punishment is warranted.

He might have toned it darker. And not there’s apparently another picture from yet another episode of blackface, oops, BROWNface. Got it.
Halloween appears to vex many Leftwingers. These sanctimonious idiots should put out a new rule book on what can and can't be said or done about race.
But making them live up to their idiotic rules is fun for a day or 2.
Accusations of racsism are bombs meant only to destroy the right. It’s not hypocritical nor a double standard to refuse to criticize the left for obvious racist acts anymore than then the air force refusing to bomb its own cities just because they bomb the enemy. The left gets this is a war the right does not.
Making the left play by their own rules may not seem fair to them but the rest of us are really having fun.
Bleach and Michael
Of course it’s just a costume, and it’s crazy to make it an issue. But Trudeau *does* make an issue of woke. Monica Lewinsky would have been a two day story except Clinton wagged his finger. Trudeau has led a life of performative finger wagging.
There are also different rules for Quebec people than there is for the rest of us in Canada. Quebecoise are allowed to be as offensive and xenophobic as they like while rest of Canada gets woke politics.
I am Canadian and I knew blackface was wrong growing up in mid '80s Toronto, so I don't believe Trudeau at all when he says he didn't know. Three photos have been leaked of Trudeau in blackface over course of decade, he knew it was wrong and didn't care.
Interesting to see what happens now, Canada has large immigrant communities from India/Pakistan all the way to China/South Korea but we don't have huge numbers of black people. Calling it brownface isn't huge help because we have more brown people than black.
Black-face in a fun costume stetting - whatev's, I really do not care.
Blackface next to KKK members in white hoods? - Democrat gets a pass.

The most useless apology(ies) I could think of were by Roseanne Barr over that tweet, "“Muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby=vj” Roseanne lost her show and her career over that and didn't even know Valerie Jarrett is black. Roseanne is certainly not a white supremacist but couldn’t back away from being labelled as a racist.
Perhaps it was Barr's support for Trump that tanked her career? Jarrett directly blamed Trump for the Barr tweet. " 'The tone does start at the top, and we like to look up to our president and feel as though he reflects the values of our country,' Jarrett said during the town hall, titled 'Everyday Racism in America.' ”
Hoisted with his own diversity doctrine.
Show of hands from everyone who knew Jarrett was black.
Halloween appears to vex many Leftwingers.
Uh-oh. Isn't Halloween is a gay holy day?
Let's see if Trudeau's woke credentials can get him out of this one. Yet another example of the absurdity of racial dynamics in modern western societies. The disparity in human capital between whites and Asians on the one hand and Africans and indigenous Americans on the other is a likely vexed problem for the foreseeable future. But the egalitarian nature of American society combined with the Progressive mentality will not permit itself to accept this. And so we are forced to engage in all sorts of stupid kabuki theater, like getting obscure comics fired from sketch shows, to pretend like we are doing something to solve the problem.
In the future, duck-lip-n-peace-sign selfies will be racist.

You are correct, sir. I now recall a scene in "As Good as it Gets" where *Helen* Hunt found herself in a wet T-shirt.
I was going to mention the Access Hollywood apology and how Trump received no mercy from anyone in the press, who still cover for Democrats that lie about what Trump actually said. If I were Trump I would consider every demand that I apologize as a provocation and I would punch back. This is why a lying scumbag like Trump is the natural response to our rotten press.
People of good faith who are Republican get badly mistreated by biased, bad faith DNC apparatchiks who masquerade as journalists. There's no use in being good anymore.

When Lemon apologizes for getting everything wrong for his entire career, I'll maybe listen to him. Maybe.
I find it so cute that Center-right types are defending Truedunce. Of course, the Liberal/Left NEVER returns the favor. But anyway, I don't really care. Who cares who rules Canada? I just wish New England would leave the USA and join them.
Canada is like Massachusetts. Get rid of one liberal... and you get another liberal. the only that changes are their hair-styles.
Don Lemon is so dumb, MSNBC rejected him.
I doubt many Canadians will care about this. Those of us opposed to Trudeau will vote accordingly and that is irrespective of this. At worst, a few Liberal voters will change to the NDP because of "purity". I bet the Liberals try to use this to distract from Trudeau's handling of the Bombardier corruption issue and his dumping of two female ministers from cabinet.
Meade wins the thread for quoting Donald Trump’s apology for the Access Hollywood tape. But does Althouse judge that was bullshit?
The principle is that demanding apologies is bullshit. That particular apology supports her theory since no one lessened their criticism based on it. Revealingly your dislike for Trump caused you to misinterpret the principle because your mind will not let you consider contradictions to the narrative. This is commonly referred to as TDS.
It's time we confronted the evil of racism endemic to the Deep North. (yes I know you're kidding...but...
Why? Because white people aren't "supposed to" wear certain makeup? What a silly idea.
Or did I miss some other racism?
This post is classic Althouse.
Really, just perfect.
Howard, it got old the first time it happened. It just never stops being important.
And it should be even more important to progressives. Progressives want to change things, to move forward, to "progress" as it were. An important mechanism for this is rules. Conservatives may not like some of the changes, but as long as progressives change the rules, conservatives by their nature tend to follow rules, even if they don't like them.
But if you have double standards, then conservatives will be less willing to:
1) follow the rule that has a clear double standard.
2) follow new rules in general
3) respect the authority (political, legal, social and so on) that originated the double standard
If conservatives no longer respect the authority, they will find new sources of authority, favoring those that espouse rules more in line with their perceived values.
Or, if you want the tl;dr, this is how you got Trump, and this is how you get more Trump, and this is also how you get something worse than Trump.
I don't mind the Arab brown face so much, but his young "Fidel Castro" mask kinda irks me:)
Late to the party. Took m,e a while to find enough brown makeup and also finding panties to match my bra.
Anyway, tell me: Why do the same people get upset with a person dressing up as another race celebrate a man dressing up as a woman and reading books to little children?
The diversity rule are incoherent. My conclusion is that they don't really care, they just want to hurt people.
Howard:
another possible outcome is that the conservatives, if they have the power to enforce the rule, do so.
This brings up an interesting topic that I have not heard discussed in game theory. What if either side can create a rule, and both sides have the ability to enforce the rule, but neither side has the ability to unilaterally veto the rule -- that is, both parties must agree to veto the rule? How does that influence interactions?
Here we have a rule: "making racist statements, either verbally or non-verbally, should penalize the maker indefinitely -- at least as long as there is proof"
Both sides seem to have a lot to lose, as both sides have candidates that have violated the conditions of that rule. So does this eventually result in a state where the rule is permanently in effect, or where both parties agree to veto the rule? Does the rule stay vetoed? How does the ability to predict the future affect the decision?
TestTube--Both parties opportunistically enforce and abandon the rule as suits their interests, with one side ultimately liquidating the other out of fury and vengeance.
In the real world, people don't play games very long. It gets serious fast.
TestTube: The point is not the rules, there are no rules, just the laws of physics and the jungle. This means that instead of whining and complaining, conservatives need to step up their game and become part of the mainstream culture by going to the right schools and work hard at getting into entertainment, media and high technology.
We all know that's not going to happen, they resigned the field decades ago.

Just to make sure I understand the new rules - anyone who changes the color of their skin, for any reason, will now be vilified? How about changing the texture of your hair? Is it racist for anyone not of African descent to braid their hair into cornrows? Is it racist for those of African descent to straighten their hair? Are flattop crew-cuts reserved for Caucasians?
As to Valerie Jarrett:
She is the granddaughter on her mother's side of Robert Rochon Taylor, an architect and chairman of the Chicago Housing Authority. The notorious Robert Taylor Homes, now demolished were named for him.
Valerie's mother is Barbara T. Bowman, for many years head of the Erickson Institute. Valerie's father was James E. Bowman, a doctor and professor at the University of Chicago. He was the first African American resident at St. Luke's Hospital.
After leaving the army in 1955, he decided to leave the US while segregation was still in place and became the chair of the pathology department at a hospital in Shiraz, Iran. He joined the U of C in 1962 and became the first tenured African American in the biological sciences department.
This is a seriously stupid controversy, but it does show that the lefties don't really care about this--Northam proved that. Now Trudeaup is going to prove it again.
These controversies are just to trick weak and stupid people on the right. If you thought it was OK to wear a costume to a party, it was OK.

I'm not going to read 133 comments to decide whether this comment is redundant or not. My apologies in advance to Our Hostess if the former is the case, assuming she's still got the spam filter on:
This whole "outrage over blackface" thing is total bullshit.
No one is harmed, and no Melanistic-Americans care, except for the perpetually outraged, who are offended by everything, including certain clouds.
Get a life, people. While you spin your wheels with this nonsense, the countdown timer of your life continues to run down.
There is no snooze alarm on the countdown timer of your life. Open the windows, smell the air, smell the dirt, look at the light. You are alive, but only temporarily. Is this the best you can do?
Separately: Justy looks to me like Carnac The Magnificent after a long Caribbean vacation. I thought it was pretty funny.
Howard: "You can't hide under Mommies skirt forever, doc."
Nice work, Einstein. Now it is.
You are an asshole.
Icepilot: "Are flattop crew-cuts reserved for Caucasians?"
Right! And who gets to wear a "mullet cut"? Only people from New Jersey? Current residents or only natives?
I think I'm starting to get offended. Don't push me.
Howard:
Thank you for your considered reply.
The point is absolutely the rules. Mainstream culture is defined by the rules. Rules also define the "right" schools. When the rules change, those things change as well.
There are other paths to power besides getting into entertainment, media and high technology.
The rules blunt the effect of the law of the jungle. Jungles don't have entertainment, media, high technology, culture (let alone a "mainstream" culture) or institutions of higher education. The laws of physics don't do a good job modeling social interactions.
The next few years will be interesting ones for observers of history, social media and politics.
I worked as a graphic designer for Allison Davis, Obama's first law boss. His dad was the first Black sociologist at UC or something that got him a U.S. postage stamp. Allison was as white as me [100% Euro] but identified as an African-American and was very well-connected. His mom must have been ultra-white, but I digress.
Anyway, I worked for him on a couple of publicly-funded housing developments. His mantra was "Doing well by doing good." He did well but how much good he did....
Google Valerie Jarett + slumlord.
The photograph from 2001 in Vancouver, BC is like the intersection of Ralph Northam and Al Franken. He is pretty darn handsy there.
Also, this was 2001. Prime Minister Zoolander is 47 years old, so this was when he was 29 years old.
I also find it interesting that he had donned blackface in the 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s. That is three decades of blackface. That is impressive and is going to take a lot of apologizing.
Howard: "You can't hide under Mommies skirt forever, doc."
I suspected you are a troll, Howard. I have never seen you contribute anything but snarky hostile comments.
Birds of a feather and all that.
An interesting dynamic in this comment thread. Some commenters seek further definition of the rules. Others accept the rule, and demand it be enforced. Still others Want to veto the rule.
You can't hide under Mommies skirt forever, doc. sez the skirt dweller par excellence.
I have no great insight into Trudeau's heart and motivation for wearing blackface, but I don't think an excess of white privilege was the most important factor. That's not to say that he's not an enormously privileged person, but I would put his privilege down to being the good looking son of rich, important people rather than to whiteness. I never had his level of privilege. Few people do. It's not a universal white thing. It's more a Trudeau thing.
If one does not get out much, one would not know that some Tamils and persons of other ethnicities from South Asia are darker than the darkest from the Dark Continent. (I just wish many of them would shower (with soap) before boarding an aircraft I am on). As well, Jinn (or Genies) are suspected to come from smokeless fire. There is no overdarkening here.
I hope Trudeau goes down in flames. Them's the rules. When it is equally painful to both sides, the rules will change but not one day before. I can hardly wait for the president's tweets that will surely pour salt in the wounds. :-)

Rick: Sorry realpolitik upsets you.
Don't try to dress it up, you're just a useless douchebag.
Maybe I'm jaded, but I really can't get excited over what someone (lots of someones) did back in their college days. Does anyone think that - in this case - Trudeau wanted to poke fun of, to humiliate, Arabs (I think Mr Aladdin, in the story, was Arab) ?
People should just get over it.
He paid attention to the coloring of his hands. A rare show of competence by Justin Trudeau.
Howard: "Rick: Sorry realpolitik upsets you."
Now you are giving "realpolitik" the "cuck" incoherent word choice treatment.

His best line when he asks Lawrence...!? Who is this Arab you talk about!?
JamesB.BKK:
Indeed. I have gotten off of trains before my stop to escape hygienically-challenged "South Asians" who were perfuming my vicinity.
But, they do work cheap. For some senses of the word "work". So there's that.
Of course, for anyone who has visited "South Asia", one can imagine that they think that they are cleaner than clean.
Or perhaps not, it is hard to say.
He paid attention to the coloring of his hands. A rare show of competence by Justin Trudeau.
Do you really think he put that on himself without getting it all over his costume?
Who cares. He's hot. I want a us president who is hot again. Trump is so not hot. Obama was hot. Kamala would be hot.
I knew a Saudi ER MD who smelt like crap. After training in the US, he had to go back for 2 years before returning here to marry my ex-step-uncle, who was 30 years older. For a while, he was the doc on call to treat the king because his US training was rare. You'd think they'd keep better track of their subjects abroad.
Let's not forget why we find "blackface" offensive. It's not because we object to a White person trying to look like a Black person -- plenty of examples have been cited in these comments of White actors playing Black characters, which have not generally been considered offensive. What we as a society have called "blackface" and considered to be offensive for many decades is White people making themselves up to look, not like real Black people, but like racist stereotypes of Black people - the minstral show "darkie". That's what the image on Va. Gov. Northam's yearbook page was, for example.
Sixty years ago, when I was in high school, our drama club put on a play called "The Last Mile", set in the Death Row section of a prison. The prisoner who was executed at the end of the first act was Black. His race was important, because his crime would not have resulted in capital punishment except for the racial prjudice of the "system". He was a sympathetic character. Problem was, we were a small school that, at the time, had only two Black students, neither of whom was interested in the drama club, and neither of whom would have been believable in the role (the prisoner supposedly killed the victim with his bare hands, and our two Black schoolmates were little guys). But State law banned "Blackface" performances. Could we have a White actor play the role in black makeup without violating the law? Yes, we could, or so the relevant government official ruled, because the performance did not hold up the "Negro Race" to mockery and ridicule. I thought that was right then, and I think it's right now.
It's hard to tell from a single photo, but I think the despicable Trudeau should get a pass on the racism charge.
Instead he should be nailed on cultural appropriation.

Titus has plans for Trudeau, at least if he can sneak up on his backside,
"Joltin' Justin." Rolls off the tongue. That moniker might stick.
Well circassians jordanians are generally lighter skinned, mesopotamians like alladin might be a little darkerm
Let's not forget why we find "blackface" offensive.
The entirety of Critical Race Theory is insane from to bottom. It's the equivalent of treating witchcraft as a branch of physics.
I feel like I’m back in high school since the 2016 election. Popularity contests and all, crazy.
Well. At least VA Democrats can go get elected in Canada now. They're qualified.
A sort of funny story I heard once was that an Indian lady (dot, not feather) said she does not use utensils preferring her fingers to eat because she doesn't trust the cleanliness of the utensils. Those kitchens must be pretty rough. But the food is inexpensive I'm told.

Thanks, likewise. Cliche's are for a good reason: All's fair in love or war. Politics is war by other means. Isn't it obvious to you by now that the rules are only for the little people? I don't think this is a new thing in Human existence.

What? Is Tulsi chopped liver.
Obama was hot? What, in his mom jeans, throwing out a first pitch somewhere in the direction of first base? Are you serious?
I want to know how old the women he is with are. Are those students?

Sambo. He left the pea green umbrella in the car. With the tigers.

I'd say the blondes are too old to be students, so I doubt the pawed one is, either.

"We" don't find blackface offensive.

Only if you consider that blacks are sacred and therefore must not be mocked or laughed at.
In one of the priceless interviews he's given, he says he did not remember wearing the "darkening." He offered this as an explanation for failing to come forward earlier and attributed his failure to remember to his privilege, which prevented him from analyzing privilege adequately even though he has dedicated his life to analyzing his privilege as an "ally" to the unprivileged.
Oh, and that there might be more photos of other instances of not remembering.
How do you not remember having your entire body carefully airbrushed with black paint before putting on silk pajamas and a turban?
Maybe he was on ketamine. That seems like a more reasonable explanation than the one he's offering.
Justin's Joltin' "Jolson"
(Pierre's "Black-as-Coal" son)
...rocked the Land of Molson
He reportedly excused himself with, "I'm really pissed off at myself right now." That's pretty good though courser talk than Trump's unleaked or fraudulently characterized public statements There are other pics for sure but he's exempt from the cancel culture. After all he promises more abortions, regrettably, and free stuff taken from others. Also it's kind of dumb to feign outrage about party photos.
Char Char:
"How do we know what color his face is? It's a grayscale photo; maybe he was made up in blueface to look like the genie from the cartoon, but forgot."
Brilliant! I love the idea of putting on blue face and having black and white photos taken. Piss off the right people then mock them for their false presumptions.
Howard:
Rules are for everyone. If the "big" people don't heed the rule, then, generally, either they go or the rule goes. It will be interesting to see what happens in this case, especially since Ralph Northam is still in power.
The quote is actually: "war is the continuation of politics by other means" (Clausewitz). Which implies that war is one (extreme) way to do politics, which in turn implies there are means other than war to carry out politics. Adherence to a set of agreed-upon rules is one of those means other than war. Let the rules lapse, and things get really dirty, as you see in any riot or revolution. Another good reason to a) play by the rules and b) not mess with the rules too much.
His blackened hand on the pretty girl’s chest, how come no one’s talking about that? We’ve got a twofer here: racism and “me too”!
