"... when characters in musicals transition from speaking to singing..."

I liked the "there are no musicals for people who are Australian." Made me laugh out loud.

Hilarious. Extremely creative and...funny.

Rogers and Hammerstein , what have thou wrought.

Nicely done without pretense or expense.

Unassumingly brave in terms of her look.

Even the choice of ceiling lines added an interesting Dutch-angle background.

Is this a safe space to express my dislike of "Les Miserables"?

I hope you're not comparing the movie with the play. The movie was excruciating painful. Anne Hathaway can't sing.

I walked into the movie "Into the Woods" with no idea that it was a musical. Not opposed to 'em at all, some of my favorite flicks are musicals, but it was kinda weird (in a good way) having it sprung on me like it was...one minute they are talkin' and then suddenly they are singin'

Does anyone know the composer of the lead-in music?

"Does anyone know the composer of the lead-in music?"

Gen. Eric.

She's a great writer!

Gen. Eric. Didn’t he win the Battle of Mundane?

Marni Nixon wasn't available?

rehajm said...

Gen. Eric won at Mundane because of the enemy's confusion about who they were supposed to be fighting.

Cute, but if she wants me to make it to the end, she needs to change up the music from song to song.

Funny! And I probably got fewer than half the allusions.

Mundane is such a good example: be careful who you let hold your flank!

"Yes, General, I was so hoping you would ask!"

I wish I could enjoy this, but her voice is nails-on-blackboard and she couldn't afford a camera stand? Or even a book to rest the phone against?

I think her creativity makes up for her voice. Good for her. One quibble: Mel Gibson and Hugh Jackman could not only make an Australian musical, but throw in a good many action sequences as well. Crossover hit, selling like hotcakes, I'm rich, pop the champagne, roll credits.

Excellent! Whenever I need an example of creative intelligence, this will be my go-to.

Not exactly the same but fairly hilarious:

Elvis has laughing fit in middle of recording a song for the movie Spinout

Nice that she uses her real eyebrows.

I thought "Fightin' round the world' was the quintessential Australian musical.

Side note: The Captcha was buses. When I saw one of them, I was, "Whoa, that's the local 22!" Then I remembered, "Oh, I'm in a coffee shop five miles from Google."

I love what her eyebrow does when she says she's British and going to war.

I tried to watch it. There goes 48 seconds I can never get back.

I thought Ann Hathaway's singing in Le Miz was very good. Certainly a lot better than whoever it was that Althouse posted here.

Love it. Missed it yesterday and referred back this morning.

Sorry, you're confusing General Eric with Gene Ric, the actual composer of this stunning piano piece.

Sarcasm is classic, but bored kids are evil.
I watch porn that is more than 48 seconds, give the kids a chance.
Apologies for the raunchy truth, but if this is any consolation,
I have slowed the speed of videos by at least 50%.
I think her tempo and scene cuts re quite patient.

Thank you so much.
