If CBP has video of AOC screaming at the staffers (and why wouldn't you have video surveillance in a detention facility), they should release it. AOC says that she was verbally assaulted by staffers as well--let's go to the videotape, to quote Warner Wolff.

I remember when our soldiers returning from Viet Nam were called names and demonized by the left. It looks like ICE and boarder patrol are getting the same treatment our VM vets did. It is not just AOC doing it. We are living through a horrid time, right now, the left is totally deranged.

Yet she claims she graduated #4 in her class at Boston University. Has anyone ever heard of a university keeping a class ranking like that? High Schools, yes. Not universities where they don't go beyond #1 or #2.

Is AOC a one-term wonder? If she is, what news outlet cashes in on her name recognition when she "retires" in 2020? Or are we looking at the new Maxine Waters?

AOC knows how to get attention. But honesty is not her strong suit. She can find tragedy and horrors where others find humanitarian aid. I wonder how long she had to talk to the illegals before she got the answers she wanted.

tim in vermont said...

She is trying desperately to come up with a take that doesn’t immediately bring to mind the thought that a wall would solve the problem.

Next she can walk through a prison and broadcast that she has been informed by the inmates that nearly everyone there is innocent!

Hey hey AOC when are you going to lean your ABCs?
Lets deport her back to NYC!!

AOC forgot denying funds and resources to secure the border, direct immigration reform to reduce casualties and collateral damage, and harassing businesses that supply products and services to border centers. Fortunately, Mexico has stood to address immigration reform at their southern border, and will hopefully pursue emigration reform to mitigate the progress of immigration reform at both ends of the bridge and throughout. El Salvador has also acknowledged a compelling human and national interest for emigration reform to stem the progress of immigration reform and to leave no child behind.

I despise the fact that the claim itself is being reported as top headline news/front page stuff with no characterization that her claim has not yet been supported by anyone else present nor any evidence provided to support it (i.e. video, audio).

Compare this to say, Trump making claims that Trump Tower was wiretapped. A claim that was reported as "He made the claim without evidence." - which at the time was accurate.

Further, I'm reading reporting on migrant deaths in ICE custody. In this case about someone being the 6th death in ICE custody since October 1st. You know what I thought when I read that?

Holy shit, only 6 deaths in 9 months during which time hundreds of thousands of migrants were detained - many in terrible health after a long journey with poor nutrition and sanitation? ICE are damn heroes considering they are overwhelmed with the number of migrants and under-resourced and only 6 people have died in 9 months in their custody. That's got to be less than the national average death rate for a similar population over a similar period of time.

But actual reporting on balanced analysis? Pfft. That's gone now.

More seriously, though, it does seem a bit outrageous for a public figure to make these kinds of factual claims--accusing individual federal workers of serious crimes--without offering any evidence.

I mean she's not giving an opinion here ("I think these places are concentration camps, Trump oughta be ashamed") she's making factual claims. I note that most of her statements are in the form of "someone told me X" which we all ought to discount appropriately, but she hasn't been all that careful to distinguish between passing along hearsay and making what appear to be factual statements of her own.

Now we all know CNN won't ever give her the snarky chyron treatment (AOC claims, without evidence, X), but what kind of civil legal liability protection does a congressperson have? She's making some pretty serious claims about the actions and behavior of individual workers.

Autocorrect and poor editing skills account for much misunderstanding and hilarity. When I read the tweet, I figured that "understate" was a typo, meant to be "understand." It is hard to understand the enormity of the problem.

That makes sense...unless we want to pick on how (or if) she misuses the word "enormity."

Not that long ago, enormity meant a grave crime or sin but, alas, dictionaries now use the common misunderstood meaning of the word, the great or extreme scale, seriousness, or extent of something perceived as bad or morally wrong, as the first definition of enormity. Not a second definition but the first! That is an enormity.

Big Mike said...

Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn't the little twit vote against funding to provide food and soap and toothpaste to the detainees?

This is my job. I work on this every day. I'm in meetings and on calls with the CBP and DHS people you see on the news. I see the 'sausage being made', if you will.

Just for the record, members of Congress - particularly the black and brown ones, it seems - are lying when it comes to DHS and the southern border migrants. Given the level of resources and legal authorities provided BY CONGRESS, DHS as an agency truly is doing the best we can for the migrants, regardless of what is on a secret FB group. DHS and CBP are working every possible angle within our statutory and regulatory authorities and money to provide the best shelter and care we can for these people, yes, even the kids.

All the outrageous claims of people drinking from toilets or whatever bullshit you are seeing on tv and internet is nothing more than political agenda-pushing ahead of a presidential election. If Congress really gave a shit about the people coming across they would have done something other than piss and moan for the last 3 years. This is effectively the US version of Israel/Palestine - nobody really wants to fix it because it is too valuable of a political club with which to beat your opponent. The US CONGRESS IS NOTHING MORE THAN THE WORLD'S MOST EXCLUSIVE CLOWN COLLEGE.

You can also ignore all the sob-stories from any group with 'human rights' or 'immigrant rights' in their name. The subjects are coached on what to say and how to say it. These are not objective or disinterested observers - they are lawyers and activists coaching people on how to get around our immigration laws because to them this is all a game.

You are being lied to and manipulated by some of the worst people in the country. Don't believe them.

Leland said...

Clearly AOC is secretly working for Trump. She's endlessly generating goofy nonsense for Conservatives to mock. She's constantly saying silly things that excite naive young liberals on social media and pundints in the mainstream media. She forces the various Dem candidates to adopt positions that are difficult to defend. Basically her fanbase and general cultural footprint is big enough that it can't be ignored, but small enough that it clearly doesn't represent anything close to mainstream thinking. Consequently she generally makes the Democrat party seem out of touch to many mainstream voters.

The odds that they are being used as drug mules- which would also account for the unexplained deaths of children in custody- are high. They might even be sent north to fill the Hollywood urge towards pedophilia, as Bella Thorne talked about.

The Obama Administration's fault for what they did, Trump Admin's fault for what it is doing. This isn't that difficult.

Two addenda: One, when y'all say "Obama did it first," you certainly aren't condemning the horrors or demanding that they be addressed now. And Two: there are some things about the treatment of immigrants and refugees that the Trump Admin is continuing from before, but there *also* are changes in such treatment. In short, y'all are just trolling.

"Do you also support DNA testing to see if the adults are related to the children? It is reported that up to 1/3 of the children are not related to the adults. Or are you just bullshitting. as usual."

Reported by whom? On what basis are these "reports" worth crediting? Are they like Trump's specious use of "A lot of people are saying...." What people? Where and when did "they" "say"

Cookie, the internet was invented for you so you would not sound so stupid,.

One.

Two.

Three.

I know you hate this country, Cookie but your Soviet Union is no more. I would be willing to chip in a small amount for a ticket (one way)_ to Cuba.

I realize that's tongue-in-cheek, but if AOC didn't exist the GOP would have to create her.

She and Titania McGrath were sorority sisters!

""It's hard to understate AOC's intelligence, and it's combined with the worst secondary characteristic for a fool: arrogant confidence. Just an awful person who should be nowhere near power."

"Ha! Perfect capsule description of der Trump!"

You don't have to emulate her with more stupidity.

Trump: A man who has made billions, employs thousands, accomplished more in his first three years than any President in my lifetime, breaking all kinds of economic records for growth and employment of minorities and others, while simultaneously changing the worst dynamics of our foreign policy. All this while being told it was all impossible by the "experts".

AOC: A former bartender, who seems to know nothing of history, economics, logic or diplomacy, and who has already cost Americans in her own district thousands of jobs and billions in tax revenue for decades to come with an approval rating in her own district hovering around 20% just after being elected. She may well cost Democrats everything politically.

Yea, clearly they are similar. You would have never predicted or expected any other person to have accomplished what Trump has as President, and you sure as hell couldn't have done it yourself. You wouldn't even have a clue where to start on any of it.

You forgot to mention your own expertise. What is it?

Summary: they created their own shitholes and they're fleeing from each other.

Robert Cook
Every country in Central America has a US Embassy where one can apply for asylum. The famous drowned man and his child would have been alive today had they taken that option and he would still be working in the job he had and been with his employed wife and the child who survived by not being chosen by the craven father as a prop.

Robert Cook escaped Florida for “civilization.” I presume he found too many Cubans there to be civilized.

Meh she flubbed that line. Especially when using a common phrase or an idiom, I don't think most people think about the exact meaning of every word they use. I wouldn't give her too hard a time over it. Because if a Republican made a mistake like that and a bunch of lefties started making fun of him or her for it, I would think they were pedantic jerks.

rcocean said...

You gotta give it to the MSM and the DNC - they set the party line and they all follow it to a tee. If trump talks about border security, and the problem of illegal aliens and its negative impact on we Americans.

THEN, the DNC/MSM ignore that, and comes back with constant endless stories of Babies, Babies!! Dying at the border because meanie Trump is mistreating them. An alien invasion is flipped into racist Trump mistreating colored babies at the Border.

Brilliant! And its just want the Jeb Bushes and the soccer moms WANT To hear. Now, they feel all moral about that illegal immigration that is giving them cheap nannies and farm workers!

bagoh20 said...

Dweller, I agree, but this mistake may be her finest moment. It's certainly one of the least offensive and damaging.

rcocean said...

Its doesn't even matter if its FAKE NEWS. The subject has been flipped. Trump is on the defensive and the MSM/DNC is on the offense. And we're not talking about whey we're letting letting millions of foreigners walk into the USA, we're talking about Babies. Colored babies - DYING AT THE BORDER!

Yes the irony of her mistake is very enjoyable.

Oops. Cook forgot to wear a mask.

See, here's the thing - if you REALLY give a rat's ass about these people, the very very last thing you are going to do is politicize the issue, to make it a referendum on Trump, because now they are just props, props to be used and then discarded when they are no longer useful.

Fix your mask Robert.

The group defamation claim could be hard.
Now if a definitive, small, easily recognizable group is defamed AOC could be effectively sued.

And she only has immunity if she says these things from the Floor of the House.

Somebody should get busy on this.

I can hardly understate that her name has too many syllables. I identify as a name compressor for anyone with more than ten syllables, they end up with the first and last. So, as for me and my house, we call her Altez.
