The pannier gown suggests 18th century, but I thought that 18th century dresses went all the way to the ground and did not expose ankles. Can anyone who knows more about the feminine fashions of three or four centuries ago clarify this?

Anyone here with relevant knowledge have any thoughts on what happened to those two tankers in the gulf? Reports claim the damage was from mines, but the damage is well above the waterline. That's not what I would expect from a mine.

it's too bad the 'dude' in the 3 piece suit and oxfords at Starbuck's today wasnt wearing that dress.

Then maybe 'he' wouldnt have left his bloody sanitary napkin on the restroom floor and the bowl full of bloody toilet paper.

We know the manager, and she saw my face when I walked out, and asked "what's up?", but our 'Menstruating Male' was waiting in line and I didnt want to make a scene for the manager's sake.
On 'his' way out, 'he' turned, looked at us with an arrogant smirk, then left.

sorry to gross y'all out. The ProgLibDems own this shit.

Normalcy is their enemy, and they fight dirty. Period.

There are many kinds of sea mines — most are anchored to the seabed and detonate by proximity, usually the magnetic field surrounding the steel hull of the enemy ship, though there are acoustic minds that are triggered by sounds made by a ship's propellers and/or powerplant. There are also free-floating mines which drift with the current. all of them also have some form of contact exploder (the horns on and old-fashioned mine are contact exploders).

The weapons used by the Iranians were limpet mines. Invented in WWII, limpet mines are attached to the hull of the target by means of magnets so that they stick like a limpet clings to a rock. These are detonated by a simple mechanical timer.

I want Phrygian caps and cockades back, as on the revolutionary outfit on the left.

Cockades are much more stylish than MAGA hats, and more subtle, if you can get everyone to wear one on their hats. Also a great conversation-starter.

limpet mines above the water line make some sense if one wants to "send a message" without actually sinking the ship.

Limpet mines are usually laid underwater though.

Hat styles can vary by politics too.

I don't know who gets the tricornes, bicornes, Phrygian caps, or what side wears their bicornes en battaille or en colonne.

There is a lot of culture lost in the loss of hats.

The ASO had a summer event tonight showing a movie on a big roll down screen with the Symphony Orchestra playing the musical score live. Casablanca is quite a moving movie. That was the first time seeing it for me that was not on TV. The full audience of high brows cheered at several scenes:
Here's looking at you, kid.
Of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world, she walks into mine.
We'll always have Paris.

I believe they had more hair in the 18th century--but it may not have been their own.

It's possible they couldn't find a womynican short enough to get the hem nearer the ground.

But the poor Queen had to see her wedding dress & veil displayed with nothing in it. She became a cypher.

If the boat taking the mine off can be firmly identified as Iranian, that pretty well seals the case, in my opinion- still waiting to see that proven, though. The video is pretty clear cut- the men on that boat took the unexploded mine off the hull of the ship- you don't do that unless you knew it wasn't going to explode, and there is only one reasonable excuse for knowing that.

As for the location, you would put it above the water line if your goal was something other than sinking the ship. The problem is that there are a lot of motives from different players here. This is why I want to see proof of the identity of that boat in the video.

When they made skirts that were to go over side supports (panniers) as in the picture, they made a tube and adjusted it at the top for the waist size and pannier size (width), not at the hem (length). So lengths varied and, even in the same dress, hems were uneven as they are in that picture. But hems were fairly high off the ground as in that picture so that, though uneven, they did not drag in the dirt. Stockings with designs and shoes with glittering buckles complete the outfit, not that mannequin-ghost look as in the picture.

I'm still puzzling my way through the anti-Trump reaction to his comments that he would be open to accepting information from a foreign source. The Federal Election Commission chair published a letter to remove any confusion in people's minds, stating that it was (under current law) illegal to accept anything of value from a foreign individual. And Nancy Pelosi has promised legislation to require reporting of foreign offers of assistance.

Here's where I'm puzzled. Does a Presidential campaign have a legal obligation to ensure that it's campaign volunteers are citizens? If so, do they use picture ID? If not, isn't an undocumented immigrant volunteering for a political campaign already illegal? And do Democratic candidates for the Presidential nomination already report all instances of undocumented immigrants volunteering or attempting to volunteer for their campaigns?

TO me, this sounds silly, and not something that should be illegal. But the anti-Trumpers have made it sound like such a huge issue, undercutting the very basis of our democratic system, that I wonder if I'm missing something. And do their actions, taking this seriously, match their words?

The simplest and safest (to the Iranians) tactic would be to use one of their small craft, come up alongside the tanker, attach the mine, and scoot off.

If the Iran deal was so “reasonable” and good for the US, why was it kept secret and why was it never presented to the Senate for ratification? That would have pretty much prevented Trump from rescinding it.

I just saw Gillibrand on TV and she promised to “bring this country together” by steamrollering Republicans and ramming through the far left Democrat agenda.

She also is not aging well. She used to be kind of hot, now she just looks like an old lady. Which would be fine if she would just go with it.

f you follow me on twitter,[Judith Curry] you may have noticed that I was scheduled to testify before the House Oversight and Reform Committee on Jun 12 [link]. The subject of the Hearing is Contending with Natural Disasters in the Wake of Climate Change.

Late on Jun 10, I received an email telling me that the Hearing is postponed (as yet unscheduled). Apparently the Committee finds it more urgent to have a Hearing related to holding the Attorney General and Secretary of Commerce in contempt of Congress [link]. Interesting to ponder that Congressional procedural issues are deemed to be more important than Climate Change.

There oughta be a law!

There is nothing wrong about listening to "oppo research" from a foreign individual or entity if that is all there is. When the offeror is an intelligence agency, the issue becomes murkier; a politician would not want to appear to be personally working with, or for, a foreign state.
But it is a political question rather than a criminal issue, unless the transgression is really rank.

Witch hunts and warlock trials are a cause or effect? Catastrophic Anthropogenic Political Climate Change (CAPCC) over a multi-trimester period and in progress threaten civil and human rights, and social stability.

It's too hot, too cold, just right. Whereas Catastrophic Anthropogenic Global Warming/Cooling/Disruption/Climate Change is a prophecy, wide swings in climate and weather are normal and unpredictable, although following prevailing winds and local conditions can often produce a reasonably accurate forecast.

According to Wikipedia, Kellyanne Conway's title is "Counselor to the President of the United States," and obviously is an exempt employee with respect to the Hatch Act.

I think Ben Rhodes gave these people credit for at least a decade too much of mental maturity.
