Why dance to music when you can dance to speech?

I see voguing is still alive and well. Mine looked like something similar, except it was mostly just jumping and clapping. After the elation wore off, the reality of Boris Johnson started to sink in.

That's clever, but unsatisfying.

Can May still do Broward County Florida man (woman) thing and un-resign

Narayanan said...

Will No. 10 be listed on BnB between June 7 and whenever?

Bill and Hillary have promo all ready to go.

That'll show the Donald and his advice to May.

wildswan said...

The dance actually gives a better idea of the pride and defiance of circumstances in May's speech than listening to it. She's like Herbert Hoover or Bill Kristol, an accomplished person, whose accomplishment made it impossible for her to understand or be effective in changing times. Like the guns of Singapore facing out to sea while the Japanese did the supposedly impossible and came overland. Then what? Brexit wins. Then what? She and the tradition she represents have not worked out an answer to the problems caused by the EU other than the good old head in the sand move. We are fortunate, very fortunate to have gotten Trump who believes in America and who worked out an effective answer to globalization, persuaded the electorate and then carried out his promises in the face of an unparalleled storm of abuse. It's one of her limitations that May could not bring herself to take on the abuse she would have faced if she represented Britain, not the EU, and worked for the majority impoverished by globalization, (colonialism in the First World) instead of the minority enriched by it.

whitney said...

That was funny. Did Theresa may actually start crying at the end of that? How pathetic

Birkel said...

wildswan,
Can you name a Bill Kristol accomplishment? I draw a blank.

I'll happily agree about Herbert Hoover, just fyi.

The guns of Singapore is a myth. They could have fired on the land behind Singapore, but they lacked any high explosive shells. Armor piercing shells would have had little effect against ground troops.

buwaya said...

"Mine looked like something similar'

She's much prettier.

Birkel said...

In my best buwaya voice:

May is not an independent agent capable of choosing a different path. Her role was defined by others and played by her.

buwaya said...

That's a pretty good buwaya voice!

True.

Birkel said...

Eh, I think you say it better most times. But I've been saying similar for quite a long while.

I'm with Milton Friedman in that we have to change the incentive structures to gain different results. But it gives me pause to see the Brexit vote was a signal at changing incentives and the PTB made no legitimate feint toward different behavior. Entrenchment is complete.

"Me"?? Aren't there two people there? I'm sure, in times of honesty, Kelsey Ellison admits to herself that she would erase her beta male friend, but he is, in fact, in the video.

Yes, I thought of Sprockets too.

I thought the video was very funny, but clearly some of my readers don't share my sense of humor.

"Did Ann do a post about Dylan’s birthday and I missed it?"

Is there anything more boring than an adult's birthday?

One thing about Facebook... every damned day is a birthday you're supposed to act like you care about.

Get a clue, adults: Your birthday is boring!

If Dylan hits one of the numbers that ends in zero, it would be worth noting. Otherwise: nothing.

Birkel said...

Two zeroes ain't boring.

That video is amusing. They were attending a comic con in London?

Ah to be young and a 20 year old girl, where essentially anything you do is cause for being watched.

And to speak to privilege, that guy in the back is essentially invisible. But then again, she did a far better dance job.

I am happy she can celebrate like this. I feel like dancing too. It is her 'Hillary 2016 moment.'

Good for 14 days but after that you will have to enter a credit card number...

Its better than teachers dancing in a picket line.

So, then, they weren't equipped to fire on ground troops from the rear. Guess it really isn't a myth.

P.S. The dancing kids are quite funny.

May dancing to her own speech

That seems to be hersignature move. Painful.

I will give May high marks in one area. She has demonstrated pretty impeccable fashion sense. Compare her to Hillary Clinton, nine years May's senior. Clinton obviously adopted the feminist notion that women should eschew style and prefer a more masculine, utilitarian look. May is glorious in great tailoring and killer pumps.

John Clifford said...

This is just sad. I guess the mentally weak will indeed inherit the Earth. Or at least the West.

alanc709 said...

The guns not being equipped is nothing like being physically incapable of firing to the rear. Maybe you should take some basic logic courses to help with that deficiency.

Ingachuck'stoothlessARM said...

chorea (SC), also known as chorea minor and historically referred to as St Vitus' dance, is a disorder characterized by rapid, uncoordinated jerking movements primarily affecting the face, hands and feet

Blockading the continental ports would be the traditional solution.

How many continental ports could the Royal Navy blockade these days? A quick glance at Wikipedia says there are 74 commissioned vessels.

What is the "effective answer to globalization" he worked out?

Fen said...

I wonder what it's like to give a public speech like that, after a week of having your self-esteem and confidence shelled by the papers, feeling betrayed political allies, feeling misunderstood by the public, then taking the stage to announce a graceful surrender and retreat.

I gave my Father's eulogy after a week of hell. Identified the corpse for the record, so that his wife would not carry the memory of how it looked. In the chapel I was still obviously shaken by the turn of events, but my speech was about someone else and was praising the good things he had done with his life. It was to console the living, not a recognition of my own failures.

Don't get me wrong, I think Theresa May should hang with Angela Merkel for betraying their people and wrecking Europe for their Global Establishment Masters, but as I braid the rope and tie the slipnot I sympathize just a little and wonder what it was like to be her when she gave that speech.

Fen said...

Concern troll sighted. Ready arms.

@Fen - NO SYMPATHY! She WANTED that job. And yet she persisted when she proved demonstrably incapable of performing it on MULTIPLE occasions. Her vanity is great and it is just that she suffers.

All the RN needs to blockade is Rotterdam, and all Europe will be unable to take a proper bath. Rotterdam is the principal port for imports of tropical oils used for soaps and detergents, for which there are poor substitutes.

The German surrender should follow quite rapidly enough, though the French may hold out a bit longer.

The Cracker Emcee Refulgent said...

So, lacking HE, they decided not to fire at all? “Oh dear, this AP is frightfully unsuitable. It simply won’t do.”
Doesn’t seem credible.

Regarding May, good fucking riddance. Not just because she betrayed her electorate on Brexit. Why is simple competence such an incredibly high bar for politicians? And where does our preternatural patience with these clowns come from. In a truly rational world, political history would be largely a string of lynchings.

@MikeFitsz
U r most welcome!

It certainly is a breath of fresh air to finally see a politician so free, spontaneous and unguarded. It could be said that her free-wheeling, "Devil-May-Care" attitude really paid off during the Brexit ordeal.

What's your problem dude? It's a fun post, they had fun dancing, we're all having fun commenting, and Fen pointed out a hilarious joke about her jeans. You're the guy at the bar trying to start a fight when everyone else wants to have a good time laughing and drinking some cold ones.
