"I was kind of surprised to be publicly disinvited to the funeral. I think that was an unnecessary step."

"They didn't have to embarrass me. And it wasn't just me. There were other good people in our campaign back in 2008 who were very very loyal to Senator McCain and worked with him and for him for many years, and they weren't invited to the funeral. So that was all weird. It's all — I don't know — I hope, I hope that doesn't happen to other people. It's unnecessary. It's kind of a gut punch."

Said Sarah Palin, reported, with video, at Mediaite.

Unlike McCain, Palin has some class.

Either McCain was too much of a chickenshit to tell Palin he didn't like her while alive or his wife and/or daughter felt that way. What other alternative could it be?

Still there is doing it with quiet, private word vs yelling get out of my funeral.

In Palin's milieu strangers take off hat to passing funeral.

I can't envision McCain doing it if nobody was watching.

Something is and was deeply wrong with Slew McCain's grandson--and his family. Slew was a Mississippi gentlemen and a patriot. (Slew dropped dead in Coronado a few days after he got home from the war. He literally worked himself to death as a carrier admiral in WW II.)

His grandson was petty, meanspirited and vindictive and always out for himself. It seems to have rubbed off on the grandson's family. Where is the grace and character that Slew McCain possessed in bushels? Not even a speck of it left in the Arizona McCains. Gentleman to jerk in just two generations.

It wasn't just Palin, there were other people on the 2008 campaign who were "dis-invited". I'd love to see all the defenders of "War Hero" McCain excuse his behavior. Maybe they'll blame the family. Except, we know McCain spent his last days planning his funeral in great detail. And do you really think that if McCain had requested Palin be invited, his family would've gone back on his dying request?

Even if you can excuse the snub of Trump - who didn't want to go - what valid excuse is there for Palin? Other than pettiness and a lack breeding? Hopefully, this will be the end of this. Time to move on.

I am skeptical of McCain bashing in general. Like the dossier; what was he supposed to do but fob it off to the FBI. But this is pretty petty and low.

"Publicly Dis-invited". I suppose the McCain family could've easily invited Palin to one of the 5 Non-National Cathedral funerals that were held for him. But I guess, she was "dis-invited" to all of them.

"Funeral week" for McCain was the weirdest thing I've ever seen. His casket made more appearances then a Broadway roadshow. All for a Senator that no one outside of Arizona or DC liked very much. Wall to wall coverage, and everyone lying about how brave, smart, classy, and likable he was. We'll never see something like that again. Thank God.

Not nearly as many as Black lives matter and Antifa.

We know who McCain really served.

It is funny that Inga and her ilk called McCain a Hitler warmonger racist for about a year then they all went right back to being on the same team as if nothing happened.

I think democrats like McCain because he openly lied to his voters.

Just like every democrat openly lies to their voters repeatedly and often.

Democrat voters are just dumb and like to be lied to.

McCain pedaled the stupid Russia collusion hoax too that these fools still believe in.

The 80's called and they want their foreign policy back.

I wonder if there have been fewer Palin's involved in brawls than Kennedy's involved in the death of chicks?

Not weird: calculated, deliberate.

Take that, you deplorable woman. Which is necessary: to tell the unwashed not to pollute the anointed.

I don't think Sarah is quite as naive as she sounds here, having gotten rough treatment from too many progs to have any illusions, but it would be good for her to be just a tad more explicit about what we deplorables really think about Them.

Good on Palin for standing up for herself and pointing out what should be obvious to others yet ignored for political agendas. The McCain's should have the right to have whomever they prefer attend their funeral and keep out those who don't. It is decent. But it is also decent to let loyal allies know in private why they are not welcome. That too is decent. Palin's not asking for civility. She just says it was unnecessary.

It's good to be reminded how much of a relief it is that the voters of Arizona have representation again, and that old piece of shit McCain is burning in hell. Fuck his fat daughter and tramp second wife too. His grandfather would be ashamed of how he besmirched the good name of the family.

How many brawls were the Plantagenets involved in?

“A hereditary member of the British House of Lords complained that Prime Minister Lloyd George had created new Lords solely because they were self-made millionaires who had only recently acquired large acreages. When asked, “How did your ancestor become a Lord?” he replied sternly, “With the battle-ax, sir, with the battle-ax!”

Well, don't you remember how Sarah Palin foisted herself on the ticket, preventing McCain from any other options?
Me neither.
There was a time 20 or 30 years ago when I admired John McCain. The older he got the more erratic he seemed and I realized that was his schtick. His response to the financial crisis during that campaign was laughable.

I remember McCain wanted to suspend the campaign to address the financial crisis.
Next thing I saw was him and others sitting around a table, McCain sitting quiet like a dummy with nothing to say while Obama tool control.

I might be wrong but it sure seemed that way to me.

narciso said...

He chose that moment as pretext to throw the match and used the Jones memo to cover for it, through Wallace and schmidt.

"McCain sitting quiet..." Yep, that's what I remember. He made a big announcement about suspending his campaign and did, essentially, nothing. Laughably inept.

cronus titan said...

McCain went out exactly like he should have -- as a petty and small backstabber. Remember, his final act in the Senate was backstabbing the GOP on repealing Obamacare (which he told the voters of Arizona he would do) just to shiv the President. That is who he was. It is appropriate that he and his family would use his funeral as a public production to slight people who they considered their enemies (even if that were only in their own heads). Most people would like to be well-remembered at their funeral. Not McCain.

Merny11 said...

Petty, not Tom. And sad. Embarrassed I supported McCain in his presidential run.

rcocean said...

"I remember McCain wanted to suspend the campaign to address the financial crisis.'

Yes, Bush-II talks about that in his book. McCain called him up and demanded a meeting on Financial Crisis with the Congressional Leaders, Sec of Treasury, President, etc. He arrived at the White House with Obama, and everybody waited for McCain to present his plan. Instead, McCain just mumbled something like "We all have to work together" and went quiet. Bush was stunned.

I think McCain's problem with Palin was that he knew that a lot of the people who voted for him only did so because of her. His ego couldn't deal with that. Apparently his wife is just as petty.

I voted for McCain simply because he wasn't Obama. I figured if he won, he couldn't possibly be as bad as Obama. I also assumed he would be bright enough to have realized had he won it would have been in large because of Palin. I didn't realize at the time he was such an arrogant fool. Sad.

McCain was a nasty piece of work, in death as in life. And based on the way his people treated Palin, like attracted like... they were so nasty they couldn't help themselves even as they hurt McCain's chances on winning in 2008. And, of course, McCain let them do it.

Very weird. He made Palin his running mate, then watched his people destroy her and his chances in the process. If he had second thoughts about Palin, he could have found a way to have her step down and be replaced. Makes no sense unless you figure he didn't really want to win, but then how to make sense of the preceding 10 years of his life? Or, somebody got to him... that's real conspiracy-theory stuff, but how else to make sense of it all?

The Establishment Party (E)

I see it now. I was once a big supporter of Bush till he threw his grassroots under the bus. Left us standing with out hat in our hands explaining that we really did find WMDs in Iraq (We did, I was there). And then again as we tried to defend him during Katrina. Bad enough that Bush wouldn't fight, but worse - he let those most loyal to him get blindsided by open-field tackles. At least signal that you're surrendering before we lay down on the wire for you.

McCain was worse, but I caught on to his "Maverick Moderate" bullshit early. He's a fricken traitor and, as karma had it, I got to see him betrayed by the very media he had thrown us under the bus for in the hopes they would "like" him. He shouldn't be buried on American soil.
