I challenge anyone to watch 1 full hour of Don Lemon on CNN.

It is truly mind-boggling. He pretends to be an objective observer, discussing the political world. But inside, he is screaming, "Get Trump, Racism, More Free Stuff, Get Trump, Racism, More Free Stuff, Get Trump, Racism, More Free Stuff."

First that would be gratuitously cruel and second is it me or does Don Lemon really look a bit like a lemon? Funny thing about CNN, if they got rid of all their political stuff and just kept running shows like Anthony Bourdain's they actually would have a audience. Now if Trump was to really get in touch with his inner asshole he would prod Congress to unbundle cable.

I haven't watched CNN since the OJ trial, 25 years ago now. In fact the only way I even know anything about the current crop of personalities is all the stuff that's reported about them in the conserv-o-sphere. And stuff like this.

That said, I know that there's a fierce appetite from Trump haters for content that up until recently CNN was able to supply. The problem is, the content has to have some semblence of believability and credibility. And most importantly there has to be a payoff to all the promises of getting rid of the bad orange man. When that doesn't materialize, the Trump haters are gonna stop watching.

Of course it's not like all those viewers are gonna suddenly start liking Trump or start watching Fox News instead (I mean, a small number of them may, but the vast majority won't). They'll just not watch TV news anymore.

Any conservative statement would've been immediately retracted after the MSM attacked him. And yet, the liberals would've still called Yeb! hitler-nazi.

Nonapod at 10:28 pretty much wrote the comment I wanted to- the "reporting" has to have some chance of being correct- it it isn't, even those who hate Trump will stop watching since fiction has better production values on other channels. Of course, now that I am writing, I will elaborate....

Have you ever truly deep down believed something that was demonstrated conclusively to be wrong? I have- all of those were minor things for me- my happiness or success wasn't dependent on my being right- but they were still embarrassing personally and professionally, and mea culpas were issued when required. Now put yourself in the position of people like Inga, and all the other blithering idiots that were watching CNN and MSNBC which were all claiming it was only a matter of time before Trump was proven to be a Russian stooge. They were not only on here predicting the same, but also doing it in their social media where they are not anonymous. I personally know such people (three of them long time friends since college and grad school)- they have basically gone cold turkey on the social media aspect since Thursday- not one comment about Russian Collusion/Coordination/Conspiracy since late Wednesday night (I just checked again- literally hundreds of posts about "Trump in handcuffs for being Russian agent" since just January- several per day, and since Wednesday, between the three of them, a single post linking to Andrew Sullivan yesterday).

No, but I expect the leftist violence to increase. We are seeing more of this stuff.

John Drew, a former professor at Williams, transcribed much of the comments on his blog. In his post, Drew said watching the video felt eerily similar to another college meltdown that gained national attention in recent years: “It is an excellent example of the sort of political abuse that tore down Evergreen State College.”

This is becoming "normal" in colleges. Then, it appears in then streets and even in restaurants Somebody is going to be killed.

They really only need about six viewers. One at the New York Times, one at the Washington Post, one at MSNBC, one at Time Magazine, one at Buzzfeed, one at Vox.

Or something like that. All you need to operate the transmission belt of the vast left-wing conspiracy is the skinsuit of an outfit with some history of credibility, on which you can father your lies, which will then be accepted by the other media which will be happy to use you as a source for their calumnies in turn.

I watch - or at least hear - CNN in airports, when there isn't a seat far enough away from the TV to be out of earshot. Presumably that makes up a good third of their listenership.

Bad points about CNN - it's full of left wing nuts, but it's also unutterably tedious. At least the MSNBC loons are entertainingly crazy.

Good points about CNN - it's not the BBC. If there's no choice in the airport but a seat within earshot of CNN or one within earshot of the BBC, take CNN. The BBC has got all the faults of CNN plus double helpings of clotted smug. Truly ghastly people.

From Frank J. Fleming's Tips for Not Appearing Crazy on the Internet:

"I noticed how easy it was to scan them or just read the first sentence and say, 'Well, this one is a crazy person.' And lots of people scan like this, because crazy people have this habit of self-identifying on the internet that allows sane people to skip over what they have to say before even getting to the crazy point. [O]n the internet, crazy people can put their opinions right next to those of sane people. If they can just use a little self-discipline to not immediately identify themselves as cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs, they might actually get their ideas read."

Can't say for sure what reminded me of that.

So, on the drive up to MT a week ago, we stopped for the night in Provo, heart of Mormondom. The next morning, they had CNN on the TV in the room where they were serving breakfast. They were in serious denial, conjecturing madly that whatever AG Barr had said was a lie, and we just had to wait until the real Mueller report was released. It was one of Mariott’s chains, so could hardly believe it - but then the Romneys have long been tight with the Mariotts, so maybe I was jumping the gun there. So, I asked the front desk whether CNN was company policy. He responded that it had just been left there on CNN, and no one had objected. I pointed out the extreme denial of the CNN hosts that day. He asked me what I would like to watch, and being put on the spot, replied “Fox News” He asked what channel it was on, and one of the other guests yelled out the answer. He switched the channel, and there was applause throughout the room. Several of us then got into an intense discussion about Spygate, and our common hope that the perps got their due - bankrupting them like they tried to do with Gen Flynn, then long prison terms.

I think JAORE raises an interesting idea. Since 'Russia Collusion was such a big hit swap sides and cover the deep state' would be a really interesting move. Simply talking about Trump isn't getting CNN the ratings, so why not pivot to the drama of the deep state? The hysterical left is already over at MSNBC (apparently they do Trump-bashing better there) so they aren't risking any viewers by making the shift and they could siphon off some people from FNC. Could be a golden opportunity to re-brand as a somewhat serious news organization, but I doubt they'll take advantage of the opportunity.

Information Brokers are in this to make money. That's all CNN and WaPo are - PR agents for the billionaires. If you think CNN shedding $50 million is a loss, you're not looking at the whole chessboard. That $50 million loss was a Knight forking two rooks, in the form of pressuring some congressman to sic the EPA on a competitor or bad publicity driving down a Bue Chip company for a buyout. Trading that $500 Million Knight for one of those Rooks resulted in a net gain of Billions.

Think about it relative terms: if it was possible to completely destroy the Clinton Empire and all you had to do to make that happen is burn a $20 bill, how many of you would take that deal?

Nonapod said...

but I expect the leftist violence to increase. We are seeing more of this stuff.

It certainly seems like there's definitely been a bit of an uptick in leftist violence of late, but so far it's thankfully remained somewhat low level. There's been a few violent incidents on college campuses like the one you've linked, the occasional incident of people in MAGA hats being assaulted in public areas, but it hasn't quite reached a level that I would define as deeply concerning just yet.

I still think that most regular people aren't decending into madness over Trump derangement just yet. Of course that could change. We're sort of in uncharted territory for the modern era I think. History has shown that when millions of people's expectations don't line up with reality, mass violence can occur. But despite what you might think, we're living in a time of historic prosperity and perhaps the lowest level of actual violence in human history. So when reality doesn't satistfy, I think modern people are more likely to retreat into escapist entertainment than to resort to open violence against their fellow citizens.

I think it will increase, and Republican cowardice will be to blame for enabling it.

The Democrats are behaving like bullies, flirting with violence to get our attention and intimidate us into giving up what they want. The Republican response has been to ignore the bully. That is not a wise tactic, as it only frustrates the bully into escalating his attacks to get our attention.

The proper response, according to Marine Corps warfighting doctrine, is a pre-emptive attack using disproportionate force. Followed by making the rubble bounce, to be sure they learn where their violent leads.

But Republicans are pussies. So the Democrats will escalate violence because we are teaching them it's effective. I have tried to explain this to Professor Jacobson over at Legal Insurrection without success. He appears to have no red line. He appears to hold that if the Left cannot be stopped through a civil and legal insurrection, then it's Game Over. He appears unwilling to consider extra-legal measures that may be necessary to save this Republic. I tired for two years and he would not even entertain a conversation laying out the red lines .

But just wait until Ruth Bader Ginsburg falls and can't get up. The Red Guard will go full BLM in '14 wherever they know they have the numbers to avoid the en masse chastening they so richly deserve. Yeah, a good number of Republicans are limp dicks, but these savages are no better. They NEVER attack when there's a crumb of a chance they might have their asses handed to them.

Where this leads, I'm not sure. But swing a bike lock at someone's head often enough, and something bad is eventually going to happen to the prick swinging the lock. There's a very valid reason why the left is so desperate to disarm their political opponents, after all.

Fen said...

Which would be the more viable plan--Try to wrest the reins of government out of their grimy hands or begin to form an alternate one, starting at the grass roots level?

The Left wants to rule us, they will not leave us in peace.

"They meddle. People don't like to be meddled with. They tell us what to do, what to think. Don't run, don't walk. They are in our homes and in our heads and they haven't the right. They are meddlesome."

We could scatter and colonize the solar system and they would follow and find us. Note that Firefly did just that, pushed out and kept a low profile, didn't invite trouble, and still wound up having to stand and fight. And the result? Sorry, but just another typical conservative "victory", a rout turned into an orderly retreat. Sure, they hurt the Alliance, but the Alliance is still in control and looking for revenge. What do you think really would have happened to Mel and his crew afterwards?

So we have to turn and fight. The full force of the Rule of Law should be turned upon those who participated in this attempted coup. And if that fails, if they are above the law, then they are OUTSIDE the law and it's protection, and should be executed by those still loyal to this Republic.

Someone once said that Prime Minister Netanyahu was courageous in the face of the continuous terror and rocket attacks against his people. But TRUE courage would be to obliterate the Palis, every last man woman and child, and then go turn yourself in to the UN for war crimes. But no one has the will to do that. So the attrition on both sides will continue for decades, until the same result is reached, but with added millions of Israeli lives lost too.

But so Trump.

On the Contrary, Ray!

We are witnessing History in the way @realDonaldTrump has used 21st Century literacy to woo the nation and the world. His use of Twitter makes a gamechanging American Presidency, consider: Twitter is unfiltered -- anyone with an internet can see anyone else they want -- so in real time, a President of the United States is transparently, honestly, humanly chatting with anyone and everyone in the whole wide world.

who needs paper boys to play interpreter? we can all read and laugh and consider stuff he says freely on our own -- & across the whole wide world!

Truly, the most transparent leader of a nation in all of time.

Eric got multiple swings, injuring 3 of our people, and has suffered no consequence.

The allegation that in 2013, in a Moscow hotel room, Trump watched as prostitutes performed a "golden showers" show on a bed in which former President Barack Obama had once slept, while Russian spy cameras recorded the whole thing.

The allegation that the head of Rosneft, the giant Russian state-owned oil and gas company, offered low-level Trump foreign policy adviser Carter Page billions of dollars in return for ending U.S. sanctions against Russia.

The allegation that in August 2016 Trump fixer Michael Cohen met Russian officials in Prague to arrange secret payments to Russian hackers who attacked the Clinton campaign.

The allegation that short-term Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort managed a "well-developed conspiracy of co-operation between [the campaign] and the Russian leadership," including "an intelligence exchange [that] had been running between them for at least eight years," and that Manafort was succeeded in that job by Cohen after Manafort left the campaign.

"None of Steele's charges were confirmed in the Mueller report. Some were specifically debunked. Others were ignored. In short, the report's release was not good news for Christopher Steele.

In the wake of Mueller's findings, there are videos going around the internet of liberal media figures saying embarrassingly credulous things about the dossier. They even invented a new standard of evidence — "not proven untrue" — to justify believing it long after its main claims had been either discredited or were dying for lack of proof. .."

Once the buffalo started running, they wouldn't turn but just stampeded over the bluff. Then the First People went down and had a feast. That's where the continued investigations are leading the Dems and the media, into a suicidal rush over a cliff. And in this case, the idiots are making the lines themselves.
