And lets hire Joan Walsh who's all upset because NINE Years ago, Tucker called her a Cunt. But the pussies at "The Nation" who hate "vulgar language" - say she was called a C**T. Anyway, Joan is one puss that needs a boot.

Okay, so I got this today from a grad school buddy, & I know that probably no one but me & Paddy O give a shit (maybe not even him...), but I'm posting it anyway. It ain't gonna hurt ya none, especially if ya don't read it!

Must Catholics Hate Hegel?

Yeah! That’s right! Catholic theology’s gotta stick with philosophy that’s theologically safer! Like, ya know, Heidegger….

I always assumed that, while there are many schools of Catholic thought (e.g. like the Thomists & the Heideggerians) that would be hostile to Hegelian influence, that he had just snuck into Catholic theology through postwar historical studies (e.g. Danielou) & by ricochet off of Protestant theologians like Pannenberg & Moltmann. It’s not like Catholic theology students don’t do dissertations on Protestants anymore, like you know, Pope Benedict who did his dissertation on LUTHER! That the Hegelian influence was not always recognized or admitted by the author doesn’t change the fact that it was often there. It must be said, however, that after Feuerbach, Marx, and many more besides, just what can be claimed as “Hegelian” is a broad & moving target..

Via Insty yesterday:

...The government of Finland collapsed Friday due to the rising cost of universal health care and the prime minister’s failure to enact reforms to the system.

Prime Minister Juha Sipila and the rest of the cabinet resigned after the governing coalition failed to pass reforms in parliament to the country’s regional government and health services, the Wall Street Journal reports. Finland faces an aging population, with around 26 percent of its citizens expected to be over 65 by the year 2030, an increase of 5 percent from today.

It’s not just Finland experiencing such problems with its socialist policies. Other Nordic countries, also touted by American socialists and communists as the model America should follow, are suffering similar economic burdens directly related to their socialist policies.

The Washington Free Beacon continues:

Reuters reports that soaring treatment costs and longer life spans have particularly affected Nordic countries.

“Nordic countries, where comprehensive welfare is the cornerstone of the social model, have been among the most affected,” according to Reuters. “But reform has been controversial and, in Finland, plans to cut costs and boost efficiency have stalled for years.”

Similar problems are bedeviling Sweden and Denmark, two other countries frequently held up as models to follow on health care. Finland’s crisis in particular comes as calls for universal health care have grown louder among Democrats in the United States....

I saw the Ricky Gervais series, After Life, on Netflix. Gervais has a malicious and evil sense of humor. He flirts with violating the norms of political correctness, but, in the end, his targets are almost exclusively white, heteronormative men. He takes particular relish in dumping on overweight white men, and, if they have beards or red hair, he goes into paroxysms of malignancy. There are a few laughs and it's worth viewing, but he's a sheep in wolf's clothing. I'd like to see a few jokes at the expense of gay black men before I die. Who will be the first comedian to make fun of Jussie Smollett? ......I used to think that there was nothing to nihilism, but then I got into Schopenhauer. Very clear, well thought out positions. Lot to be said for nihilism........Ricky Gervais has a nihilistic outlook. Considering all the money that keeps rolling in from The Office and his continued good health, it must be hard to maintain such a downbeat pose. Despair under such conditions must be as difficult as maintaining a smiley face in the leukemia ward, but he persists.

For Hegel, the concrete, the synthesis, the absolute, must always pass through the phase of the negative, in the journey to completion, that is, mediation. This is the essence of what is popularly called Hegelian dialectics. - Wikipedia

So Einstein came out with General Relativity, then a bunch of people said he was wrong, but still, he was absolutely right and his original theory remained unchanged despite the negative natterings in the peanut gallery. Millions of people could have said he was wrong, or not a single person, and the essential truth of his theory would remain unchanged.

I don’t get why people make a big deal about “dialectics.” Though it makes more sense in terms of politics and psychology, a kind of “Art of the Deal” approach. It seems more like political science than philosophy.

Was just looking at Drudge, where I see this (horrible) story: Woman stabbed her daughter, 11, to prevent her from having sex, cops say.

Now I go into this thinking it's pertty bad, but it's not until the third paragraph that they say something (though it's still ambiguous) indicating the girl is dead and we are talking about a murder.

This isn't a political story; it's not a matter of boosting Dems or trashing Reps -- it's just plain bad journalism. You're supposed to have an inverted triangle with the most important info in the first paragraph if not the lead sentence. The headline is supposed to be the ultimate simmary, so get "murdered" or "killed" in there somewhere.

The universe exists. There are limits to nihilism...... It's definitely a bummer that I only (with luck) get to exist for eighty or so years in a cosmos that's 13.5 billion years old, but that's my portion. On the plus side, I did get to exist for eighty years or so. Think of all the matter and energy spread across the cosmos, and a small portion of it got to exist as me for a transient moment. So in a sense I have already been blessed.......The odds don't favor an after life. On the other hand, the odds didn't much favor life, so who knows.

Isn't it weird how little we know about Venezuela right now? Only because Twitter is down and we now rely on Twitter in these kinds of situations for up to the minute news. Why is the grid down? Why can't they fix it? Is it just that, whatever went wrong, the person who knew how to fix it had left weeks ago for Bolivia? Is it like Puerto Rico - massive neglect and then something stresses the system? Is there running water? Food? Where's the Red Cross? The Pope? Is Maduro keeping them out? or is everyone staying away, knowing the failure is too big for anything?
