I always assumed that, while there are many schools of Catholic thought (e.g. like the Thomists & the Heideggerians) that would be hostile to Hegelian influence, that he had just snuck into Catholic theology through postwar historical studies (e.g. Danielou) & by ricochet off of Protestant theologians like Pannenberg & Moltmann. It’s not like Catholic theology students don’t do dissertations on Protestants anymore, like you know, Pope Benedict who did his dissertation on LUTHER! That the Hegelian influence was not always recognized or admitted by the author doesn’t change the fact that it was often there.
