Whose is bigger? Trump versus O'Rourke.

In El Paso last night, according to The Week:
About 30 minutes into his rally, Trump said he had been challenged by "a young man who's got very little going for himself except he's got a great first name. ... So we have, let's say, 35,000 people tonight, he has 200 people, 300 people — not too good," Trump claimed. "That may be the end of his presidential bid." He said later that 10,000 people were inside the stadium. Donald Trump Jr. also tried to mock Beto's crowd size.

Trump's audience inside the coliseum was 6,500, at capacity, El Paso Fire Department public information officer Enrique Aguilar told the El Paso Times. "It might be 10,000 with the people outside," watching on monitors. The rally O'Rourke spoke at, following a mile-long march, drew at least 7,000 people, The Texas Tribune reports. Bloomberg's Jennifer Epstein says that's an undercount....
El Paso police estimate a crowd of 10,000 to 15,000 for the anti-Trump, anti-wall, pro-O’Rourke march and rally tonight.
Well, so I guess Beto better run.

iI you look at the video shot around the crowd while Beto was jumping up and down delivering word salads, you can see that the crowd on the softball field was 1000, absolute max. You can't put a crowd of the claimed size on a softball field and have that much obvious empty space. So inflate his crowd, push him to run, and he'll be crushed in the general election.
Oh, and as an official in the sport, I weighed him in as a lightweight rower at the Eastern Sprints. He was Robert O'Rourke then, and Robert O'Rourke now.

Correct.

Actually reviewing photos from all angles demonstrates that clearly.

However the lefty "journalists" know that their base, like Inga and LLR Chuck, only read headlines and will believe what they are told.

Just like the nationwide lefty attacks on the Covington high schoolers who were set up by lefty activists and lefty/LLR media and threatened with violence and death for them and their families...the lefty liars didnt expect all the other actual video to so completely demolish their lies so quickly.

Cant wait for the lawsuits.

With all the people "thinking about running" at some point it might be easier to list the people who aren't thinking about running. Even if a campaign is clearly doomed from the jump I assume that part of the motivation probably has to do with all the money that can potentially be fleeced from gullible Dem donors. All that money that can be used for.... expenditures.

1. I don't know anyone else who thinks the way he does, but we are all unique.
2. His mission here appears to be to disparage Trump at every opportunity and to create opportunities to disparage Trump. Inga does the same thing, but she is very clear about who she is and where she stands.
3. Chuck has many interesting insights in addition to his Trump mania.
4. Once in a while Chuck ticks off Meadhouse sufficiently (probably by trying to hijack the discussion) to get a metaphorical punch in the nose from with Mead or Althouse.
5. Drago has many interesting things to say, but he needs to lay off his Chuck/LLR mania.
6. All this focus on Chuck is tedious. Let him have his say and if you think he is false-flagging, ignore him.

Hispanic Marines attacked and called nazi's and white supremacists by typical white lefties.

Snip: "According to the Marines’ testimony, they were touring historical landmarks near Front and Chestnut streets when suspect Thomas Keenan approached them. Godinez testified that Keenan asked them “Are you proud?,” to which Godinez remembers responding “We are Marines.” Torres said that he remembers Keenan asking “Are you Proud Boys?,” an allusion to one of the alt-right groups behind the rally, and one that Torres said he didn’t understand. “I didn’t know what Proud Boys meant,” he said.

The suspects hide their faces from the cameras in the courthouse on Thursday.

Whatever Keenan said, both Marines testified that Keenan, Massey, and approximately ten other people — men and women, some masked and some unmasked — then began attacking them with mace, punches, and kicks, and calling them “nazis” and “white supremacists.”

The media published only narrow-angled shots (shots taken from within the crowd with no wide perspective) of Beta's rally and Trump's rally (see the El Paso Times for a brilliant example)- that is always a reliable tell about the size of the crowds. We saw this repeatedly during the 2016 election, too. However, you can always find wide-angled shots of Trump's rallies taken by either the Trump staff or the attendees who are smart enough to find a great spot from which to give a wide perspective- there are always dozens of such shots taken by his fans at every rally he has held in the last 3 years.

The Facebook picture linked above is the widest-angled shot of the Beta O'Rourke rally I have been able to find, and even it is fairly narrow-angled, but not as bad as all of the photos in the mainstream media stories I searched through just a few minutes ago. Based on the Facebook photo, and what I could see of the ballpark in it, I would guess O'Rourke's crowd was under 2500 people- the march itself I have no photos at all I could rely on because their perspective was way too narrow.

I have a simple rule I follow that is almost 100% accurate- if the journalistic media publish only narrow angled photos of crowds, you adjust the conservative speaker's reported crowd up by a factor of 3 and the liberal speaker's down by a factor of 3. Based on this, I would guess Trump's crowd was 15,000-20,000 inside and outside combined (I base this, too, on the Trump fan photos that are much wider angled both inside and outside), and that the Beta's crowd was 2,000-4000 maximum, and I only go that high for Beta because I have literally no photos that are truly wide-angled from any source and can't judge the march itself at all.

Beta The Gigolo is going to win over the Democrat voters who voted for Trump? Or is it going to be Willie Brown's Bimbo? Or one of the gaggle of wannabe Communists? Or are they going to run again with that old grifter, criminal and traitor Hillary? America has choices!

Yancey Ward said...

In short, if the Beto rally was anywhere close to half the size of Trump's, the media would have tripped over themselves to prove it with an actual wide angled photo that captured the edges of the crowd itself. When they don't do this, and we saw this repeatedly for Hillary Clinton's rallies in 2016, you can take it to the bank that they are inflating the crowd size. You only need to go back to Kamala Harris' presidential campaign announcement for the perfect example going the other way- that day the media were quite happy with wide-angled shots of the crowd because the crowd was really quite impressive.

Yeah. Fifty or sixty, at the end.

I don't know what you mean by the "axe" metaphor, but there are only 2 or 3 commenters we keep out by constant deletion, and nobody you're talking about is in that category. People who used to be here and you don't see anymore have left on their own, and you can look to them from explanations about why they left. Sometimes it's that their vanity was hurt, sometimes it's that they wanted me to do something I wouldn't do, and sometimes they've just moved on to other things. Who knows?

I know one commenter left because another commenter made fun of the way he fawned over his son and I wouldn't delete the fun-making. That's what I mean by "vanity was hurt."

Another left because he liked to enter into a new post, change the subject, and get commenters to talk about his idea and not mine. When I overcame my aversion to censorship enough to choose to delete this kind of hijacking, which I could see was intended to undercut my work and exploit the platform I'd created, he left. Fine with me. I didn't "axe" him. I just began deleting threadjacks that happen at the top of a thread and other things I call "bad faith."

That March for Life video Althouse posted was amazing. I wonder how the numbers compared with the civil rights and anti-war protests of the 60's, though the US population was considerably smaller and poorer (esp. Black people and college age) then.

Again; and I think you already know this, Meade, I regret using the word "smear" in relation to Trump. I regret it because a precise definition of "smear" implies untruth in the attack on someone else. I do not ever wish to utilize untruths in any attacks on Trump. I want the truth to ultimately bring down Trump, under legal processes.

So, for about the tenth time this year; I regret using the word "smear" in relation to Trump. I wish that I hadn't used it. I have never used an untruth or a fabrication against Trump in any comment, and I have no intention to do so in the future.

I misused the word "smear." Just like Ann Althouse did, on January 18, 2018.

Do you regret your racist comments about Ben Carson?

I have met Dr. Carson, outside of a Detroit courtroom where he had given expert testimony as a defense expert in a medical malpractice case. I have written about that history in these comments pages long ago, and I said that Dr. Carson was "brilliant." I think that Dr. Ben Carson is an extraordinary surgeon and an extraordinary man. Which places me in contrast to Donald Trump, who said of Dr. Carson, "He was a doctor, perhaps an OK doctor, by the way. You should check that out too. We're not talking about a great [doctor]. He was an OK doctor..."

What you are referring to was an insult that I aimed at Trump, not Dr. Carson. When Gina Haspel was nominated by Trump to be the Director of Central Intelligence, I endorsed her nomination and said that she was a credible candidate. I mocked Trump's nominating abilities by calling out "Dr. Ricky Bobby for Veterans Affairs or Dr. Ben Carson for Department of Black People." Dr. Carson, a superbly trained and preeminent surgeon (notwithstanding Trump's insult) had no experience in government and especially not in the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Do you regret your threats of violence against various posters here including me?

No. At least not such as I wrote them. Thanks for asking and have a nice day.

Do you regret calling Baron Trump autistic?

I did not do that. I have written many times that lawyers hired by the Trump family have denied that Barron Trump is autistic, in a threatening letter that they sent to US Weekly magazine, after US Weekly did a story about others' reporting on Barron Trump.

You hate it when your mask slips and it becomes obvious to everyone you are not what you say you are.

Meade back on the 19th of January, Althouse commented on her "Smear" blog post this way:

Ann Althouse said...
Why I used the word “smear”:

1. For metaphorical vividness. It went with “shit.”

2. Because even assuming he said it, which maybe he didn’t, I think it was taken out of context and portrayed as racist in a way that was viciously out of proportion. There was an intense effort to destroy him.
1/19/18, 9:01 PM

And that is sort of why I used the word "smear." For metaphorical vividness. I wanted to convey my personal rage at Trump, for being a Truther, a Birther and a Vaxxer. For being a liar of almost incomprehensible range. And an all-around asshole.

And as you well know, Meade, I have NEVER made any such references to Althouse. Few readers here more regularly single out specific posts by Althouse for praise, than me. Others in her commentariat think that I am sucking up to her, my praise has been so effusive on occasion.

And as always, I remind you (as Althouse knows) that my issues here are not a personal, or personality issue. My issues here are purely "Trump" issues. And the insane, reactive responses of many of your Trump-fan commenters. I say that, Meade, because as Althouse knows, I had a long and very quiet history of commenting here before the presidential campaign. Few commenters here remember me from before that time. Althouse will remember, since she had an innocuous "Chuck the commenter" tag for me, dating back many years. My private correspondence with Althouse was friendly; I suggested a few blogging topics to her; she thanked me; I wrote to her congratulating her on specifics of her blog posts; and I respectfully disagreed with her on some technical legal issues. Very respectfully. And that was all pre-Trump. Ask her about it.

Your comment Meade, putting words in my mouth about Althouse is wildly inappropriate.

Chuck said...

And here is another Althouse comment. One that I think is important, which bears re-posting because I agree with its terms and its general sentiment. This was Althouse just two days ago, responding to a commenter who tried to badly characterize Althouse and who did it unfairly (and I know how that feels):

Ann Althouse said...
"Perhaps. But then why are you willing to believe CBF's lies? Why did you say that Kavanaugh was too perfect? Why did you wait until months after Kavanaugh's confirmation to say you would have confirmed him? Why did you criticize Sandmann and never criticize Phillips?"

I listened to the testimony in the normal way that you ought to listen to testimony, which is not pre-believing that it's "lies" (or truth).

Almost everything you've written there is infected with distortion and misunderstanding. You ask me why, but why are you willing to say those things about me? You're basically lying about me, so I don't regard you as a person who values truth.

Quote something I wrote, and ask me about it. Treat me with decency, and I will take the trouble to respond. Otherwise, just withdraw your careless remarks and apologize.

2/10/19, 12:13 PM

Link to that page of comments is HERE.

It is a really great rule, for any comment that is not aimed at the substance of the main blog post. "Quote me, and then ask me about it."

And in my case, for all of you MAGA fans; "Quote me completely, in context, and provide a link... Oh, and don't keep repeating old quotes from me unless you have a new question about it that I haven't already answered."

In fact, some jovial commenters metaphorically keep looking out the window, waiting for the cur(or the bitch) to pass by.

My point, and my question to all of the Trump fans is this: Trump as the Republican nominee will result in Hillary Clinton winning the Presidency of the United States and holding that office until Justice Scalia is 85 years old. Hillary could nominate replacements for Ginsburg, Breyer, and one or two Republicans. We could end her term with a Supreme Court comprised of six young liberals who might serve for 25 years.

Climate change is a joke, compared to those prospects.

If Trump is the Republican nominee, Hillary Clinton wins by 350 electoral votes.

Like Ms. LaMotte, no doubt it, like Beto's crowd size, sprang fully formed from the earth and not because of Astroturfing.
