Wow. Really late to the party on this one. A few thoughts on Maher...
1) I was a big fan of Maher's Politically Incorrect back in the 1990s. Maher did not have much of a defined political identity at the time and did a decent job of playing off the absurdities of both sides. I was still fan after his transition to HBO but noticed a troubling sign. Maher seemed to be succumbing to Jon Stewart disease or what Johnny 0Carson (one of Maher's idols) used to refer to as comedian's disease. That is, Maher started to take himself seriously and started wanting to be "important" or "influential."
2) Maher became a much more conventional liberal during the Bush II administration And under Trump, it has gotten unbearable. I no longer watch the show. Rarely is there an issue in the week's headlines that you can't already predict Maher's response coming from a mile away. Maher had a mild case of Bush Derangement Syndrome but has gotten fully off the cliff under Trump. He is on the bandwagon that Trump represents some kind of mortal threat to American democracy. Histrionic in the extreme.
3) That said, the one area where Maher remains a pariah among many on the left is his opposition to much of the SJW agenda. Maher has been hit with all the usual jabs: racist, sexist, Islamaphobe, transhphobe, etc.
4) Though I am generally loathe to use the term, Maher does exhibit some tendencies that I think can be labeled misogynistic. Maher was a beta male nerd in his youth and seems to resent the fact that women preferred assertive alpha types. Once Maher got fame and money fairly later in his career, his relationships have consistently mostly of jumping from one bimbo to the next.
5) Maher, like another of his idol's Hugh Hefner, now seems vaguely pathetic in advocating his hedonistic lifestyle of weed smoking and sleeping with hookers.
6) It was less than two years ago that Maher made headlines for referring to himself as a "house nigga" and subsequently had to apologize to Michael Eric Dyson, who now assumes the role once filled by Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton.

No one asks your advice or opinion - on anything. You don't really even know what your opinion would be if you did. You know how little a difference you make to anyone or their lives.
You are so acutely aware of these things that the best you can do is misquote from people for whom this is not the case in the hopes that they will correct you, so that you can mistake their corrections as the attention you so desperately crave.
You lack the self-awareness to even understand that imitation is the highest form of flattery - probably because you suck at that just as badly. Instead, you attempt to steal identities and voices to compensate for the fact that you don't have one of your own. And that goes way beyond pathetic and deep into psychopathic territory.

The psychopath's mask - which is what allows him to go undetected - stems from his lack of an identity.
Having an identity restricts a person to acting in ways that are in accordance with that identity. For example, if someone is (or at least believes that she is) shy and reserved, she will have a hard time being outgoing in most situations. She believes that's just the way she is, and that may be true. If you ask her to describe her personality, she'll say, "Im shy and quiet. I'm an introvert."
Since the psychopath has only the vaguest sense of identity (if he or she has one at all), he is totally free from the hindrances and restrictions an identity confers.
Instead, he assumes whatever persona will work to get him whatever it is he wants from a given person at a given time. This persona he assumes is the "mask."
