Much of the speech (at least the part I listened to) was about her experience as a prosecutor, and a prosecutor comes to court not as an individual but — as it says on the court documents — as The People. Introducing herself in court, she would say "Kamala Harris, for the people." To adopt that standard phrase as her presidential slogan is an interesting move.
Harris's entire career — until she became a U.S. Senator — was as a prosecutor. She has been a Senator for two year.

Yes. My first thought as she smiled and waved and laughed and waved was that the husk of Elizabeth Warren has no chance in this race.
I gave up in the middle of the speech though with the litany of malaise. I know the base demands to hear it, but it's totally uninspiring.

A couple months ago, I was chillin’ at my potna house watching football. During a commercial break, we started talking about Kamala Harris — and my potna’s older cousin shouted, “Kamala Harris! She been lockin’ niggas up at Renee (referring to the Oakland courthouse) since way back in the day and was doin’ it with a smile on her face.” He wasn’t wrong. Kamala Harris has spent her career as the district attorney of Alameda County, San Francisco, and as the Attorney General aka The Top Cop of California.
As someone from the Bay Area and living in Oakland, I am constantly reminded of her history of locking up Black people in the Bay Area. Her track record consists of terrorizing Black communities through the prison industrial complex and she has consistently shown herself to be an enemy to the masses of Black people.
She is a long-term member of California's version of the Chicago political machine. She's a hack.
"For the people" is about as uninformative and vague as is possible in the English language. It is however, pretty damned arrogant. Does she even know, let alone care about the half of the country that voted for Trump? I think she hates us people.

Her whole life has been about advancing her career on thin credentials, skin color and good looks. It all started when she let Willie Brown jump her bones.
Prosecutors are the ultimate arbiters of who's on the side of the "People" and who is an Enemy of the People. The law don't enter into it, until that basic decision has been made.
To be clear, she has never really done much prosecuting, as an actual prosecutor.
She was an Alameda county deputy DA for 7-8 years, while hanging out with one Brown, Willie.
Presumably she prosecuted something or other in that time, though possibly that position too was also a favor from Willie. Alameda county is Oakland, Berkeley, etc. Very much Willie Brown land. It would be interesting to find out.
After that she was SF DA, which meant that she was running the DA office - and apparently very hands-off. Everything else she did was along these lines, a strictly political job, shmoozing, politicking, and seat-warming.

To be fair, very similar things could and have been said of Barrack Obama's career track, and a lot of other Democrat politicians who have been carfully groomed for presidential runs. Although Harris seems to actually have a little bit more in terms of a resume than Obama did.
When it comes to the Dems, the pathways to power are narrow. It's all about appearances, actual accomplishments are nice, but incidental. First you have to check enough boxes in terms of desirable traits... that is, you must be the right position in the greivence hierarchy at the time. Kamala gets double points for being black and being a woman. You have to find a powerful mentor or patreon and endear yourself to them. Said patreon can grease the wheels, have you pay homage abd metaphorically bend the knee to the correct power brokers. Then the career track can be set (in Harris's cae, from Deputy DA, to DA, to the Senate, and on to a presidential run).
Kamala and her sister both were named for well known Hindu Gods. But they were raised in a Baptist church singing in the choir. Their Indian mother's new job took them to Quebec when teens. Very interesting.
Kamala has a beautiful face and smile, an even temprament, and a good mind to go with her ambition to rule over us. She could be Trump's hardest opponent to beat. Maybe DJT could replace Pence with Nikki Haley to match her.

Had it not been for aviation mishap due to the pilot thinking God would not dare to strike such a handsome Kennedy down in his prime, the dems would have long ago nominated John F. Kennedy Jr as their nominee.
I'm not convinced that Hillary has much of a shot at winning the nomination. I get the sense that the powers that be in the upper echelons of Democrat party are no longer as under the sway of the Clinton money machine as they once were. Plus I just find it difficult to believe that the Dems would be stupid enough to nominate a 2 time loser with as much baggage as she has given the current environment (#Metoo and millenial progs who are more attracted to the younger socialist sorts than a tired old crone from another era). But this is just a guess, I could be wrong.

An article claimed there were 20,000 people at the Oakland rally but there were no wide shots to confirm that. "The people" who were photographed there, the audience, imo looked mostly bored and worn out. Kamala Harris has lived her life rising above that kind of people. Her real people who connect with her personally are the sorority women of Alpha Kappa Alpha. I listened to some of their videos on Youtube and they were all about inspiration, self determination, faith, overcoming obstacles. Harris's speech was all about the negatives Democrats always recite to prove how they care about lesser people and how she and the government are going to make things better for people. I wasn't listening closely, were there any actual solutions? There's a disconnect between what she knows is true about getting ahead and what she is selling people. She's obviously not one of the people, she didn't come up from a deprived background and she really isn't leading from truth. I don't know how people keep being fooled by this kind of charade.

I think that it is going to be an interesting year and a half. What is interesting to me is that the Republicans wish that they had a top down system based, to some extent on linage, and don’t. The Democrats pretend that they have a democracy, but it is mostly top down, at least at a national level. It was Crooked Hillary’s turn, and that was that. Maybe the Worst Candidate Ever. Certainly the most corrupt. But it was Her Turn. Republicans used to nominate the person whose turn was up, but not anymore, as evidenced by the abysmal job JEB did, after squandering record amounts of cash. Best thing that could happen to the Democrats is that Clinton states early on that she won’t run, and won’t accept their nomination if offered. She shouldn’t have a chance, because she doesn’t have much of a chance at winning this time around. Last time, she had a good chance, and squandered it. This time she would be running away from her failure, after having been caught starting the entire Russian Collusion hoax, and having gotten a sweetheart deal for her illegal email felonies by the accommodating Obama/Lynch/Yates DOJ, and doing it this time 4 years older, and even sicker and with less endurance than last time. I don’t think there are that many stupid people at the top of the DNC, but expect it to be close, if she doesn’t drop out early. And a drag down fight with the Clinton machine for the nomination is not going to make November easy, esp if the nominee crosses the ever vengeful Clinton too publicly.
If I were a Democrat, I would hope for a moderate with some practical experience, like former CO Gov Hickendooper. I don’t see that happening. Harris, at least, checks some of the intersectionality boxes. Fauxhauntis Warren only gets to mark “female”, and gets marked down for trying to cheat, and getting caught. More importantly, maybe, she doesn’t seem nearly as quick on her feet as she would need to be to beat Trump. One reason that the next year and a half will be interesting is that I think that route to the Dem nomination is going to be through getting at Trump. Whomever is the most successful probably has the best chance at the nomination. The problem is setting themselves off from the other clown car inhabitants. But that essentially means a dozen or so different attacks, different messages, at the same time, because parroting the party message doesn’t highlight a candidate’s message, or show that they would be any better than the next guy or gal in attacking Trump. The Dems in DC right now have a fairly consistent message (Impeach the horrible Orange haired guy). We will likely be well beyond that (I expect House impeachment on the grounds of Orange Man Bad, and less than a majority voting for conviction in the Senate). After that, what do they concentrate on? Middle class tax increases? (A billionaire tax, as suggested by Warren is not going anywhere, because the Democrats need the billionaires’ money to get elected). Reengaging ground troops in Afghanistan and Syria? Destroying Medicare by providing it for everyone? No border security so country can be overrun by narco criminals brutally killing anyone who gets in their way, while importing drugs, sex slaves, and automatic weapons? As they say - pass the popcorn.
Obama redux. Neither one spent their formative years in America, so it puzzles me how they can claim to have lived the black experience in America.

I think it was tons more money having been spent on advertising (easily twice as much as her opponent on TV ads, since her ads would often sandwich her opponent’s ads in commercial breaks) and a certain amount of fairly blatant cheating.
Has a career prosecutor ever been elected president? Thinking back over the presidents from McKinley to date, I don't there was one who could be described that way. Dewey had made his name as a prosecutor, but famously won before he lost. Coolidge (as governor) took control of the Boston police during the strike, which is close but no cigar. But no career prosecutor comes to mind.

But, yes, you should fear a second civil war. Fear it greatly. We have the guns, and the training to use them. For the most part, your side does not. That said, I expect that the death toll will be mostly Blue on Blue, as the police withdraw and maybe even defect, leaving much of Blue America to fight among themselves to acquire a rapidly diminishing supply of food and power (almost all of which comes from Red America).
The time I expect to see armed insurrection is when the Dems steal a national election, as they so brazenly did around the country last fall. And esp if a fraulently elected President tries to disarm the American public. Right now, the response to gun grabbing political statements by Dem politicians is that a lot of people head to the gun stores to stock up on guns and ammo. In pretty much every story by the right about Gun grabbing Dems crossing the line, the Dems will do something stupid like order the seizing of firearms, and the response around the country is a collective unlocking of gun safes. If you honestly think that you could disarm the American people over the next several generations, you are a fool. There are clearly more guns than people in this country, maybe even half again as many. And changing those laws would likely have negative consequences from those doing so.

Not a guitarist. Never even played one, or even an air guitar, so I missed your allusions. Not much experience with revolvers, so not sure what my grip looks like there. Much more time with semiautomatics, and there I use a two parallel thumb grip. Maybe should look into moving my support hand thumb a bit forward, but currently they are next to each other. We shall see. I didn’t realize it until tonight, and it should be obvious, but my grip is one that works well with Glocks, and it turns out that 2/3 of the handguns I routinely practice with are full sized Glocks. Supposed to have problems with Sigs (which I don’t own) because of the slide. Moved from Isosoles to modified Weaver stance last fall, after being beat up pretty bad in a class by the instructors. I shoot better this way. It seems a lot more natural, at least for me, with the power/dominant leg back, and leaning a bit into the shot. Isosoles always seems too forced to me, bending at the waist and leaning forward, with your butt sticking out in back. It is supposed to be better for side to side shifts and movement, and if you wear body armor.

The enthusiasm for Harris is just proof that what the Democrats object to is less Trump's authoritarian behavior than that authoritarian behavior is not directed along "progressive" lines. Harris has made clear what her "progressive prosecutor" thing mean with the story about threatening parents with jail time over truancy. She thinks the power of the state should be used to accomplish social goals -- to make kids to go to school, to make people recycle, to make people act better. She looks to China's new "social credit" system as an ideal: mass surveillance and people's freedom being dictated by how often they make the correct choices in life.
Oh, and she also wants a massive tax cut for people who don't pay taxes to pay for a massive insurance plan for people who already have insurance.
Of all the Dem candidates, she's easily the worst.
Her only client is the people.
