"CNN anchor John King asked on Friday if it matters that taxpayer dollars are being used to pay for Karen Pence's housing and Secret Service protection if the vice president's wife is teaching at a private school that seeks to exclude LGBTQ students and staff members."

Sometimes I read something that gives me an instant headache. A literal headache. This was one of those times. The article is in The Hill.

No it does not matter. You don’t get to cherry pick where she gets protection, nor of you get to presure her through the sevret service...

It was surprising to me CNN dummies didn’t try to work an angle on Trumps recall of military aircraft, like through some judge in Puerto Rivo or something...

Excluding LGBTQ people is part of the secret service protection.

Lol. Instant headaches? Yeah, you have at least a couple posts that do that to me every day. Including the first one from this morning.

No matter. More people (including taxpayers) are opposed to Karen's (Pence's "Mom") bigotry than would be ok with having their taxes used to protect her for it. The question might have been technically unfair, but this elitist's lifestyle and grifting off that service/funds is inherently unfair.

Oh, right. Fact. So the bible told us what we know about the HIV virus and how to prevent and survive indefinitely with it through protease inhibitors and other antiretrovirals? Which edition of the bible are you reading, doofus? I'm curious if it can teach us how to avoid the much bigger epidemic of cancer.

Did the bible also tell us that some super-righteous select few will have t-cell mutations that prevent them from ever getting AIDS, as the science shows? Man, their burnt offerings must have been like very well-received by the Almighty!

Or else maybe they just showed their faith by going along with the suggestion that they sacrifice their son, as Abraham did.

There is an evil undertone to all this, as pointed out by the Benedict Option guy. No. McCarthy was an irrational, obsessive drunk and his fellow McCarthyites were just as far off the deep end. So in this way they actually have much more in common with the Pences and their fellow travelers than they do with those who criticize their 16th century superstitions.

For a so-called scientist, you often come up with some very outlandish and irrational assertions.

Maybe you follow Christ-based science, as well.

This reminds me of how devout Muslims say things about flies not spreading disease due to Quranic verses. Just a weird source document for your first principles, empirically speaking.

I don't see the problem with a private religious group, as the Post writes, having its employees agree with "religious beliefs that seek to exclude homosexual and transgender applicants, including that marriage can only be between a man and a woman."

And it makes sense for the school "to refuse admission or kick out students if the activities of either the student or their parents or guardians go against the biblical lifestyle espoused by the school. This includes 'condoning sexual immorality, homosexual activity or bi-sexual activity, promoting such practices, or being unable to support the moral principles of the school.'"

Remember, folks, this is a kindergarten through 8th grade school. Kids at that age shouldn't be having "homosexual activity or bi-sexual activity."

Put it another way, if she was teaching art at a madrassas, would she be criticized? And wouldn't they have exactly the same standards?

All the people that care about iowan2 should exult his ability to note that ancient Hebrews, as stupid as they weren't, apparently still didn't have the ability to make relevant science 2500 years after their heyday.

But of course he's welcome to visit the Technion or Weizman Institute and ask their descendants about how scripture scientifically proves homosexuality to be... what's that scientific term? Oh yes, an "abomination." Perhaps their next papers should set about proving such a thing.

In any event, I'll believe his implication on the modern-day applications of their "science" whenever he demonstrates his adherence to kashrut. He'd be the first pious skullcap-wearing "iowan" most of us cosmopolitan folks have ever heard of, but hey. I'm always up for surprises. Well, this is where the issue arises. If homosexuality is innate, then it is an affliction, a birth defect, and its sufferers deserve sympathy, though not necessarily indulgence. The contrary proposition is that it is a choice, a surrender to temptation, like smoking only worse. I confess, I have a hard time believing this. Certainly, if homosexuality is a temptation, I have had no difficulty in resisting it. And like Oscar Wilde, I can resist anything except temptation.

It will probably turn out to be either a spontaneous mutation or, more likely, an infectious agent, and it will be possible to identify homosexuals before they are born. Then the only people in America with homosexual children will be Christians.

Lol. "Cheerleading." You're hilarious.

Who defines what is "deviant?" I'd love to hear that one. I mean, seeing as how sexuality is primarily a private affair - apart from the ritual of public celebrations regarding the choice of mutual life partners - it's hard to see which public authority figure is going to be selected to instruct the public on "proper" private sexuality. It's an interesting problem for your tribe of self-appointed prudes, prissies, perverts and prim-and-proper police to put into practice now, isn't it? And yet, I fully expect the next administration that's more right-wing than Trump's to appoint just such a position. Someone's got to balance out King Donald David's debauchery with the kind of lecture that gives his Evangelical base the shivers!

The left is just practicing the logical extension of privacy, tolerance, compassion and decent treatment of others regardless of irrelevant differences - just as it's always done and just has been the only practice that has ever gotten society anywhere in the last 400 years. Whatever baggage you're talking about OTOH, well, that's your business. And your shrink's. I can't speak to it. Oh, yes, the blessed Left. Always on the side of good morals. See, you sound exactly like a church lady -- "I'm just doing good works".

Sadly, these are the same sentiments out of the Left that it mouthed while murdering 100 million people in the 20th C.

Bleach Drinkers Curing Coronavirus Together said...

Oh, yes, the blessed Left. Always on the side of good morals.

Certainly as of the last 400 years, of course. As I said.

Sure, there may have been a point to enforcing female chastity or anything outside of monogamous heterosexual procreation in the days before paternity tests and oral contraception made the concept of mistaken paternity and inheritance intolerable, but those days have long passed. You should take a look at the memo on that one.

See, you sound exactly like a church lady -- "I'm just doing good works".

Ahh... looks like, "sounds like..." As Machiavelli said about appearance instead of realities. You're doing a good job of not rising above what he'd expect of a nice sheep like yourself.

If you can find any significant left-wing movement gaining elected office in America that is advocating anti-democratic tyranny of the sort of 20th c. movements that defines your single solitary concern in life, post a link on it. Until then I'll be happy to focus on real-life problems and dangers - such as repeating the same right-wing experiments of the 1920s and early 2000s that gave us worldwide depressions and the rise of nationalism and Hitler in the first place, let alone the strengthening of his communist adversaries we had no choice but to ally ourselves with in order to defeat him and his fellow sometimes genocidal uber-nationalists.

What I recite above is standard and easily defended historical reality. Call it a fantasy or asylum belief all you want. You're the one on the side that believes Reagan single-handedly defeated the same Soviet Union that was bound to be unsustainable anyway, right?

Right-wing worship of aristocracy and economic deregulation --> global depression --> rise of nationalism and genocidal imperialism --> WWII and the countervailing Soviet alliance. See? You guys were the ones who gave us Stalin, after all!

They also loved using leaded pipes to carry that water and poisoned themselves to insanity and apparently the downfall of their republic and empire.

A common myth: but false. Oh, the Romans used lead in their aqueduct piping — but they weren't poisoned by it.

Why not? In the first place, Roman aqueducts and water systems, unlike those of today, generally did not employ spigots and hence the water ran continuously.

There were thus no extended period(s) of time during which the water sits stagnant in close proximity to the enclosing pipe — thereby eliminating any notable opportunities when lead could be transferred to the water. Instead, water ran quickly through the system and then out of it.

Moreover, Roman water was typically quite “hard” so that promptly, soon after installation of the piping, minerals would congeal on its inner surface, quickly forming an impermeable layer walling off further contact with the lead.

Both effects combine to lead (pun intended) to the conclusion that Romans were not especially lead-poisoned by their water.
