"Blue wave or no, Trumpism lives on. And it continues to be America's loudest voice."

An L.A. Times editorial. Excerpt:
Many Americans had believed that Trump’s election two years ago was a brief deviation from the norm that would be reversed once rational voters saw what he was like in office. The [midterm election] returns were a depressing wake-up call to the true extent of division in the country. In fact, tens of millions of people turned out to vote in favor of Trumpism....

That message is horrendous. It is a message suffused with alt-right, racist ideology.... It is a message that manifests itself in shocking policies....

The battle to quiet Trump and Trumpism did not end on Tuesday. It will be a long slog, and the voters who spoke up in opposition Tuesday will have to keep speaking for at least another two years — loudly, courageously, unmistakably.
I'd say it's not enough to speak up in opposition — however long and loud. You need to respond convincingly on the issues, especially the issue of illegal immigration. It's not enough to say Trump's message is crude and inhumane and horrible. You need your own answer to the question, an answer that can be stated clearly and that will appeal to enough people (so it can't be open borders or don't do anything new).

Exactly so! I never defend Trump, but I'd vote for him again in a heartbeat. In my circle, open support for Trump wouldn't end well. Folks already suspect that I am a racist, homophobe, xenophobe, misogynist, and all-round hater. I don't need to give them actual evidence.

Yesterday, a very senior entertainment executive sent me an email apologizing for her negative assessment of a contract point by possibly attributing her downer views to the "senate results". I remained silent...but inside, I was dancing a buck and wing.

One of the reasons I completely enjoy Trump is that he's not a turn-the-other-cheek kinda guy like W was. If the rest of us addressed the lefties as aggressively as Trump does, it's likely that those Antifa thugs and smugly virtuous coastal librul elitists would think twice before coming at you in a restaurant or in an editorial.

They think that they have intimidated us into shutting the f**k up. And they are right. This editorial is just more proof that they think that they have open-field running.

"Since when would anyone believe insane claims"

The claim is not that of "a" caravan of 20,000,000, but of potential numbers of border crossers should the borders "fall" and a cascade of people be encouraged to make the attempt. The US could not block such enormous numbers nor, probably, would it try to. It would create a massive political and social crisis in the US.

The number, 20,000,000, is, I think, extremely conservative for such a scenario.

Every year I go back to our old homeland, our old mutual colony across the Pacific. 100 million people live there. If it shared a contiguous border with the US, or at least didn't have to cross the whole Pacific Ocean to try it, at least half of those 100 million would be trying to cross the border too.

I understand both sides of this problem.

I am well aware of that. It has to be different this time (yeah, I know). Making sure of that is the hard part and requires a lot of thought. It may not be possible. But what’s the alternative?

First off, I trust Trump to make this deal more than I would anyone else who comes to mind. Second, we don’t give them amnesty (which is what this is) until everything else is in place. Maybe we start vigorously deporting people until the wall is built. I bet that wall could be built in a year if the right pressure were applied.

Nope.

The very second you place a clause in a bill which calls for things A thru "x" to be completed and then you get the Democrat payoff, the dems immediately change the terms, lie, obfuscate etc to get past the criteria, assuming they even bother to address the prerequisites at all.

Which they won't.

Ever.

The dems want all 20,000,000 of LLR Chuck's dream voters (non-Trump voters) on the rolls as fast as possible and nothing will be allowed to stand in the way of that.

Better than nothing is a high standard. Instead of letting illegals in only to allow them to disappear turn them back at the border. Increase employment and academic enforcement to catch visa overstays.

Second, we don’t give them amnesty (which is what this is) until everything else is in place.

This is not how anything works. Dems wouldn't make the deal unless there is an amnesty trigger which they would then game.

I trust Trump to make this deal more than I would anyone else who comes to mind.

Even on a medium term timescale you cannot expect deals to hold on existential matters such as these.

No deal can be enforced, no deal will bind a future government. And its certain that you will have a future government that will open your borders. It is the only certain guarantee of perpetual power, and they have been badly scared by the Trumpian revolt.

The basic strategic problem here is that you have two powerful castes competing for power, and one is substantially more powerful than the other, in financial and institutional terms. The long term bet is that the powerful caste will get its way, eventually, unless they are destroyed first. And when they are in full power again they will make certain that it can no longer be challenged. They would be idiots otherwise.

I was in Palm Beach County in 2000, drove home from work along 441 after taking a half day off to vote. There were air conditioned buses loading up with farm workers, well known to be mostly illegal. There is no long term significance in "sounding sensible", when the inexorable strategic logic of the pursuit of power is in play.

Your old elite had a tribal attachment to the United States, as an entity and a culture, but your modern one has been educated differently. This is why I keep harping on your problem with the universities, all else flows from that. All that matters now is who rules, not the nature of that entity they rule. They could be ruling Brazil, as long as their wealth is preserved. The constitution or condition of the masses they rule over is irrelevant.

ccscientist said...

"It is a message that manifests itself in shocking policies...." And what might those shocking policies be exactly? The wall? National borders are a real issue. There is no country on Earth except failed states that have open borders. Do you think you can go to Japan or China or Iran or Brazil and just move in and work? No way. Please, mr and ms progressive, give me a number of immigrants that you think is the right number so we can debate that. 1million? 10? 100? Because if borders were truly open 100Million might indeed want to move here. Is that your goal? People need to know.
As to all this "racist" stuff--the only evidence for that is the border question, but borders apply to white people immigrating too, not just Mexicans. And why should Mexicans have an advantage over Chinese or Africans just because they can walk in? Trump's claims about criminals concerns whether we have the right to refuse entry to anyone. The Left apparently thinks not. Which of these positions is logical?

Yes, the Democrats in Broward County are in the process of stealing the Senate seat- Rubio is absolutely correct. We know this because they have conspicuously refused to disclose what they are doing and how they are doing it. They have already gotten the Scott lead down to the manual recount stage where "intent" of the voter can then be used to push Nelson's carcass over the finish line. They literally cut a 60,000 vote lead when Broward reported 100% count to 17,000 in just two overnight vote drops. By Monday morning, I predict Nelson is in the lead by enough to evade even a machine recount. This is banana republic vote counting.

In South Carolina Trump endorsed Katie Arrington to be the Senator from South Carolina and then he bragged that he got rid of incumbent Republican Mark Sanford when she won the primary. In the end a Democrat beat out Arrington in SC of all places.

In Missouri Trump had to go with his dishonest bud, Kris Kobach in the gubernatorial primary despite bad press, only to have him trounced in the election.

Late votes out of Broward County which is already in violation of chain of custody and time-related voting laws.

Late votes out of Fulton Co in GA........late late late late

Which is easy to do, once you know the number of votes you have to make up and can generate as many "black box" votes as you need.

I wonder what it was the dems knew about the military ballots that got them so motivated to just throw out as many as possible.

I wonder....

Bleach Drinkers Curing Coronavirus Together said...

How about:

1. I don't care.

or:

2. You can do more for those worried about job competition by legislating for their own protections (wage and benefits) instead of being on the take for the CEOs and billionaire-owner class who keep employment prospects and conditions hijacked to their never-ending vetos and whims.

Also:

3. Obama prevented more undocumented entry, but did it without the hate. The hate is entirely the issue, not the numbers or their effects. And Trump IS vulnerable on that fact. Look at how fucking insecure he get when called out on how the Mexican caravan was a phony issue that he lied about. Just couldn't take the criticism.

We can have our own answers. Trump might "own" that issue, but that doesn't make his stance as popular as you pretend.

Finally, your posture is offensive as hell. It's akin to saying, "Listen, Hitler might be wrong on the Jewish thing, but he's 'winning' with it at the polls. Craft your own response that assumes he's right on it and doesn't ignore how it resonates."

We will never give in to hatred, ignorance and just general all-around bullshit. For a supposedly well-educated former academic, you are disappointingly weak-minded when it comes to what lies you think you can demand people take seriously, just because it has political value.

Trump is a fraud and his immigrant-obsession is a phony issue.

There is nothing more pathetic than watching a professional pander to a demagogue.

But to answer the quiz:
Ann's concession that Trump's message is crude and inhumane reveals the answer: change the message, and see the brown immigrants in a positive way. Don't be cruel, don't be inhumane. Most of them who are here are trying to fit in and raise their kids. It's a big country, and they add to our wealth. It's not open borders for the US to show protection to people seeking asylum.
Ann and the other white non-elites have to be persuaded that they aren't really in physical danger from roving gangs, nor that their advantages in access to wealth and power in the society have been retarded. That's going to be a hard job. She and her tribe seem as scared as can be. They must somehow rekindle the moral courage of their ancestors. Buck up, you scared non-elite whites! Show some spine!

Lets face it, the US, with 350 million people, can absorb not only 11 million current illegal immigrants, but many more, as the 21st Century US turns browner long after Trump has scarfed his last big mac.

This sounds like a bad dystopian scifi film from the 1970s.
Because I've been hearing the same bullshit since the 1960s. Today it is global warming. In my life the cause of the dystopia -- which always requires intervention by a world government to prevent -- has been: overpopulation, food shortages, nuclear winter, the return of the ice age, the disappearing ozone layer, natural resource exhaustion, air pollution blocking the sun, water pollution killing the oceans, economic collapse, global warming, and now "climate change."
Your beloved ideology is bankrupt, Robert Cook. There is no reason whatsoever for anyone with two neurons to rub together to believe your inane, repetitive, tedious predictions of disaster if we don't all come to share your totalitarian values.

Democrats have already broken the law in Florida by refusing to report vote totals and have not allowed party observers access to the counting rooms. Both actions are against the law.

So, not telling anyone the vote totals as they are required to do by law, and not allowing observers into the rooms where the dems are doing the counting.

Yep. In counties and by democrat elections officials who have already been cited multiple times for improper and illegal voting acts.

Cheating is all they know. They only believe in power, not process. Perhaps they didn't gerrymander enough. Republicriminals should fight for the ability to have non-contiguous districts. That will be the next-step evolution in their gerrymandering enterprise. Clearly there are unexplored frontiers in where and how far they can take this non-competitive districting process that they love so well.

Thanks for the proof of life info, Dr D'Anconia, guys.

This voter fraud is horrible, but is also inevitable if unopposed. The RNC should have the brains and resources to deal with this (as they did in FL in 2000).

PDJT frankly should have expected it and should be taking some kind of measures. Flood the zone/s with DOJ or something. If Sessions had been on the ball he might have prepped for it.

But there may be a jurisdictional issue and the Fed can't intervene in state elections, though it seems a clear conspiracy to deny Republicans their civil rights.

The more I think about it, the more I think in 2016 the Democratic fraud machine (but I repeat myself) must have sat back and rested, expecting to be 50 points ahead already, or perhaps not caring for HRC or stood down at BHO's order.

Achilles' optimism, which was excessive, may have been warranted by the (naive) assumption of a clean election.
