A Thanksgiving warning — "only bedlam, chaos, injury and death" — from Trump.

You might think he'd back off for a day, but no, the confrontation with Chief Justice Roberts rages on:

History starts anew for feder as his eyes open from slumber

Check out Sen Charles Grassely response to Roberts.
In short Roberts didn't give a shit when Obama went after SCOTUS in his SoU address. The leftist have been calling Citizen United a criminal act by SCOTUS since it was decided. Funny that when the Constitution states that 'congress shall make no law restricted the freedom of speach', and when congress enacts a law that limits speech, SCOTUS knocks it down.

Obama's railing against SCOTUS is legendary, but Feder has zero historic perspective.

The attacks on the Citizens United reveals a lot about the Left. They don't say why it was wrong, they just say that it was incorrectly decided.
Obama's JD argued that the federal government, the supposed guardian of the Bill of Rights, had the right to pull books from store shelves, seize them in warehouses, delete them from your e-reader. They wanted to ban political speech at the time of elections.
And they call Trump "authoritarian."

I agree that judges need to be brought down to earth. Your honor my ass, they are just roadkill like the rest of us. However, slagging off judges when phoning in a holiday greeting to the troops is disgusting. Is it no wonder that Bone Spurs and Anal Cyst are you peoples biggest heros. They allow you to wallow in the sewer of degenerate pride and stupidity. No wonder their fans are addicted to obesity and opioids. Gorked out on smack and insulin shock does that

Trump is more on the side of Truth -- Roberts is defending, in advance, the crimes that will be committed by illegals.
Trump will mention those crimes.
Were the illegals not allowed to be in, or stay in, the US, those illegals would not commit the crimes -- Roberts and the judges of the 9th Circuit are NOT doing their best to protect US citizens from illegal alien criminals.

Many folk in Central California already feel they are living with bedlam & chaos due to the immunity many illegal alien criminals act as if they have, and many many small illegal thefts and problems which the police do not protect them against. See some VDH posts about this.

* Roberts said SQUAT when Obama directly challenged the Supreme Court on national TV, at the 2010 SOTU speech. Why not? And why now, especially since Trump was attacking an inferior court judge, not the Supremes themselves?

Surely Chief Justice Roberts knows that the lower courts are a creature of Congress, and not the Constitution, and thus could be altered or even abolished if Congress so willed. IOW those courts and their judges are not beyond criticism.

Every now and then someone will come right out and say the King has no clothes.

Trump specializes in that; he calls them as he sees them. And he's not the only one who can do that. Every now and then (the frequency of that depends upon one's point of view) he runs around naked as a jaybird his own orange haired self and his opponents call him on that. He is an imperfect human being.

But there is virtue in the ability to see a spade--and call it a bloody shovel--if that is what is. And that's Trump's followers see and approve.

Well, Roberts showed he could be bullied by Obama, so Trump throws an elbow his way. As many here have noted, the press has been noting who appointed judges in controversial cases ever ever since the Reagan years. Roberts is pretending, and Trump is ranting. Trump is trying to bully him. It has worked before.

cronus titan said...

Roberts is a brilliant legal mind. He sucks as a politician. This was as predictable as the sun rising. Obama judges, Trump judges, Bush judges, etc. are in common usage in the media and political arenas. Also, Roberts is subject to valid criticism that he said nothing when Obama attacked the Court.

During every controversial court nominee, Justices talk about their professionalism and lack of interest in the political fight, never admitting that their decisions since the Warren Court have made the courts an extension (and final arbiter) of partisan politics. Their insistence that politics never, ever enter their decision insults the intelligence.

The chief requirement of law is not that it be just, or fair, or equitable, but that it be predictable. As long as that is true, people have a large leeway to adjust their conduct so as to make use of that predictability. When it is necessary that the law should change, we have a legislature to change it. This process has the advantage that you can see it coming, and plan accordingly. When an "activist" judge rules according to his sense of the fitness of things, he stands revealed as a tyrannical monster, unfaithful to his oath, eager to use the coiled violence of the State against the rest of us.

Jay! Sweet little Jay! Jay Jay Jay! The point of the Althouse forums is not to make arguments "on the merits." If that was the point, half of the gang here would be out of place. The point is to have a far-right conservative echo zone which surprisingly ends up with $$$ in the retired professor's pocket.

Nonetheless, in the spirit of optimism, I offer this brief lesson: An empty assertion (an assertion without content) is not the same as an unsupported assertion (as assertion provided without further reasons to believe the assertion). There are very few truly empty assertions in regular dialogue. There are many unsupported assertions. (<-- That last sentence is an unsupported assertion; it is not an empty assertion.) You would not need an argument "on the merits" for an empty assertion. (Indeed, what the hell would such an argument even be? Any support would be superfluous!)

Also, Roberts is subject to valid criticism that he said nothing when Obama attacked the Court.

Nope. Wrong. Invalid. Obama never attacked any court (or even the judiciary as an institution) as constantly, venally, ignorantly or aggressively as Trump does. I think it's possible Trump is unsurpassed in presidential history for how badly he goes about this.

Roberts was justified in at least registering as mild a dissent as historians and citizens looking back at this sad era of time in many years will wonder if anyone with any power or publicity had the good sense to do.

wholelottasplainin said...

Here's what Roberts said well after Obama's criticism of the Supremes in the 2010 SOTU speech:

“Some people, I think, have an obligation to criticize what we do,** given their office **, if they think we’ve done something [wrong],” said Roberts, responding to a University of Alabama student’s question in March 2010. “So I have no problems with that. On the other hand, there is the issue of the setting, the circumstances and the decorum. The image of having the members of one branch of government standing up, literally surrounding the Supreme Court, cheering and hollering, while the court, according to the requirements of protocol, has to sit there, expressionless, I think is very troubling.”

Yet he felt compelled to address presidential tweets.

And it's *Trump* who is "rebuked" for supposedly doing something both unprecedented and unpresidential, for criticizing a specific judge in a specific circuit for "what they do".

Snort.

On the other hand, posters on this site tend to be a bit more competent than posters on other "interwebs" sites, so you will likely not find much success.

Not finding much success is likely what you do best.

It's also not my fault the vast majority of military active duty members and retiree voters preferred Trump over Hillary.

I only quote this as a case study for how stupid and reckless right-wing blowhards are.

The creature being quoted does not comprehend the difference between a global average and wherever it "observed" a record cold. When the jet streams are deformed by climate change then fronts can breach further south than they would have when the jet stream constraining the Canadian Shield existed.

I learned about the Canadian Shield in something like 6th grade. Apparently this was also one of the grades it (Fool Moan) flunked.

The blowhards also don't seem to understand how snow starts as moisture that then falls as precipitation. It's not possible for increased moisture to be absorbed into the atmosphere and then fall without warmer temps where it originates.

Full Moan literally thinks snow gets magically into the air not as water vapor, but as snow!

You can't make this stuff up!

This is from the guy who complained about being talked about when he wasn’t here.

As usually, you are exceedingly, horribly bad at getting the point. K. extricated himself from this place suddenly, apparently permanently and somewhat dramatically. As such, he doesn't really get to complain to people here about what they say about him - since, by definition, he can't and won't be here. The not-here-to-defend-himself defense doesn't apply.

But if you want to do his dirty work for him, I'd predict that that's just the kind of shameless unrequested bootlicking you'd be up for.

K. brought shit up just to complain. When I mentioned K. it was to point out how lost Fool Moan feels without him. So I wasn't even really saying anything against K. It's more of an observation about how useless Fool Moan is.

I have to believe you can't really be this stupid to not understand what I'm saying.
