Steve Ferrara for Congress. The funniest political ad I ever saw.

Granted, I don't watch many political ads.

All the ads on Jeopardy are political now, which I think is a waste of their money. Most people who watch are likely to vote and likely to have made up their minds.

The worst part all my stations cover multiple federal and even more state districts. State legislature candidates didn't use to have enough money for many TV ads.

Marge was... special. From a long past era. Her 1990 boys went wire to wire. This Brew crew reminds me a lot of that team.

The days of a crackpot owner micromanaging a team and getting lucky are long past. Just ask Jerry Jones...

If you're winning it's because there's a powerful vector head on your team's roster.

Roberts was right to bench Grandal.

Terrible pitch to swing at with 2-1 count. Your first job in that situation is not to ground into a double and your second job is to hit the ball in the air to the outfield. He should have zoned out the bottom of the zone. If he strikes you out there on low strikes, tip your cap, sit down, give Taylor a chance.

Awful situational hitting.

Counsel drives me nuts with the pitching changes. Ironically, my major problem with that school of managing--over-managing-- has been Dave Roberts. The Rockies play the Dodgers a lot during the regular season, and I hate the delays: but I just can't believe that's a winning way to manage in the post-season. You gotta trust your starting rotation get into and out of jams.

All 3 games against the Rockies (which admittedly they swept) Counsel over-used his bull-pen, and now he's done it in the first 2 games against the Dodgers (and the Brewers are 1 and 1 going into LA.) I hate the Dodgers, like any true Rockies fan, but Counsel is out Roberts-ing Roberts, and the Brewers will pay the price.

LSU kicked Georgia's ass.

That was just one of those games. Georgia has better talent but you get behind in an environment like that and the home blood pumping adrenaline and you are doomed.

But let's face it, NOBODY is going 12-0 except Alabama, so if my Dogs run the table, they get another chance in the SEC Championship.

PS. I have been watching college football since 1959 and have NEVER seen a team as good as this year's Alabama squad. They lose their #1 quarterback tonight and he is replaced with Jalen Hurts. Ayyiyiyiyi!

Wow. That speaks to why Black Panther was such a phenomena, and it makes me sad, because it shows how desperate blacks still are for heroes we can claim, because - unlike everyone else in America - we've got hardly anyone or anything. (And no one who cares about that desperation). John Henry, fictional or not, IS our beloved folk hero, representing the black man's natural superiority over whites, who always had to be assisted by technology to beat us. The Rock, being light-skinned, kinda screws that up.

Slavery and integration, once again, are fucking us up, leaving us with no past, and no future. Whites took our past, through slavery, and now, through integration, they can do whatever they want with what we created to sustain us. Again - it's cruel - and in an existential way. Like life itself conspires. Nobody has to hate us to hurt us - just be "free" without anyone or anything forcing you to have to be concerned for our feelings about what we treasure - ever.

Nothing against The Rock, but, if he really gave a damn, he'd back-off and let someone with more cultural heft take this one.

gilbar;
The Clones are a Jeckle and Hyde team. The new coach, Campbell is doing great, coaching the hell out of X's and O's. As the coach matures and gains experience, I predict he will make great strides in coaching the men. This year seems like a head game, for the players. Campbell has them punching above their weight class. Playing with a nothing to loose attitude, then teams they should easily beat, their hubris kicks in and they overthink the game.
Fun to watch, when the kick a team like WV up and down the field, on both sides of the ball.

I try to read and grasp the meaning of your angst, but then stuff like this shows up? So its not the color of the skin, although Obama and the Rock are both the same kind of Black, no?

"Cultural heft" Sounds like a lot of secret handshake shit is hidden in that term.

@Crack,
"...because it shows how desperate blacks still are for heroes we can claim, because - unlike everyone else in America - we've got hardly anyone or anything."

I can't really understand this. I can easily name 100 black men and women off the top of my head who I consider heroic. Why can't you "claim" them? Whether people who were simply the greatest at what they did (Louis Armstrong) or who were exceptionally brave as they broke down barriers while climbing to the top (Jackie Robinson). If I consider them heroic as a white American, what keeps you from claiming them?

My guess is that now you will call me a racist for naming a musician and an athlete as examples.

Where are Republicans getting this whole “mob” thing from? They had a meeting and decided to make it up out of whole cloth I bet.

That picture with the vandalized doors was worth the repair cost as "bloody shirt" propaganda. How stupid are these people? I am thinking that they really believe it will intimidated people.

Contending with you guys' ignorance gets tiring: You are aware there was a time when whites - not blacks - insisted blacks were inferior, no? So guess what blacks did? THEY PROVED IT WASN'T SO - ALONG THE SAME RACIAL LINES WHITES INVENTED.

Now, take that back to whatever shop white's racism was invented in, and see if you can have someone remove it from you, because it stinks up the joint.

No, it's history and culture, two things whites comment on but have little to no interest in learning about or understanding - forcing the rest of us to listen to them talk ignorantly for centuries.

I want everyone to see this exchange, so they'll understand why I always mention Gahrie as a source of problems on the blog - he's a racist, running with his resentments, and trying to muddy the waters so - somehow - whitely comes out on top as a rational racist from the past.

What can stop white supremacy, Gahr? Can I stop you from being an asshole, or can only you decide to do that?

The Crack Emcee said...

Andrew said...

"I can't really understand this. I can easily name 100 black men and women off the top of my head who I consider heroic. Why can't you "claim" them?"

I do - but, past slavery, what do I claim? As you look at your family tree, what do I look at - a broken branch that can't extend past slavery in America. Michael K says I should be happy with "West Africa" - which is why Michael K is a moron. Blacks in America have been harmed, possibly for all time, by this.

The Crack Emcee said...

Andrew said...

Your guess was wrong, so please recalibrate your idea of who you're talking to: I ain't the one.

Paco Wové said...

"I can't really understand this."

I think I can, but it's pretty depressing. Crack is broken, and nothing will ever fix that. Nothing will ever make him (or the people he claims to speak for) less broken, and their complaints and demands will become ever more strident and unrealistic.

Talking about branches ... What do you see as main difference between yourself and anyone else who can trace ancestry?
Why's that significant to you?

Should Roots have been titled Uprooted ?

mockturtle said...

No one can stop Crack from being an asshole except Crack, himself. :-(

Andrew said...

@Crack,
Now I'm confused. First you were talking about heroism, now you're talking about your family tree.
My family tree has some good people, but for the most part is a dysfunctional mess. There's not one person in my family that I would call heroic. But that doesn't really matter to me. Why would I then need a hero that looks like me to validate my existence? It really is a strange mindset to me.
I agree with Pack Wove. There is something broken about this perspective.
Crack, most white Americans want you and the people you speak for to succeed. Otherwise, we don't think of you at all, because we don't think we owe you anything. And we don't feel any obligation to take the blame for self-sabotage. If you were to get the chip off your shoulder, you would find that this country is not your enemy. You yourself are your own enemy. And white people (well, some of them) can see right through the victim act.
Your ancestors came over as slaves, hundreds of years ago? That's a tragedy. (My ancestors were in Germany at the time.) So now what should you do? Get over it. You only have one life. Stop wallowing in bitterness, and be grateful for the opportunities you have in this country. There are millions of people around the world, including in Africa, who would gladly change places with you.

Gahrie said...

You are aware there was a time when whites - not blacks - insisted blacks were inferior, no?

The difference is, most White people no longer believe this, and we are told it was wrong for them to do so. You currently believe that Black people are better than White people, and see nothing wrong with doing so.

The only difference between you and the old school Democratic racists of the South is who you want on top.
