Julie Swetnick "said she witnessed Judge Kavanaugh... lining up outside a bedroom where 'numerous boys' were 'waiting for their "turn" with a girl inside the room.'"

"Ms. Swetnick said she was raped at one of the parties, and she believed she had been drugged. None of Ms. Swetnick’s claims could be independently corroborated by The New York Times, and her lawyer, Michael Avenatti, declined to make her available for an interview.... Unlike two other women who have accused Judge Kavanaugh of sexual misconduct, one who went to college with him and another who went to a sister high school, Ms. Swetnick offered no explanation in her statement of how she came to attend the same parties, nor did she identify other people who could verify her account.... In her statement, Ms. Swetnick said that she met Judge Kavanaugh and Mr. Judge in 1980 or 1981 when she was introduced to them at a house party in the Washington are... She said she attended at least 10 house parties in the Washington area from 1981 to 1983 where the two were present. She said the parties were common, taking place almost every weekend during the school year. She said she observed Judge Kavanaugh drinking 'excessively' at many of the parties and engaging in 'abusive and physically aggressive behavior toward girls, including pressing girls against him without their consent, "grinding" against girls, and attempting to remove or shift girls’ clothing to expose private body parts. I also witnessed Brett Kavanaugh behave as a "mean drunk" on many occasions at these parties.'"

The NYT reports today.

If the allegations are true, there must be many, many other witnesses. Where have they been all these weeks? And why would she go to "at least 10 house parties" if they were as she described?

The NYT suggests there's a gap in the account because Swetnick doesn't say how she got to go to the same parties as Kavanaugh. We're told Swetnick grew up in Montgomery County, Md., and graduated from Gaithersburg High School — a public school — in 1980 and attended the University of Maryland. That puts her in a less elite crowd. She's also 2 years older than Kavanaugh and graduated from high school 3 years before he did, so it makes it a little hard to picture them at the same parties. Did older, state-college women go to parties with prep school boys years younger than them? If they did and the boys raped them, repeatedly and systematically, how could the boys get away with it, and why are there not many more women coming forward with the same allegations? And why are we getting this through Michael Avenatti?

President Trump must be on the right track about the FBI. They are incompetent. 6 background checks and none of those agents, who make the career doing back ground checks ever asked his college roommate about Kavanaugh's drinking habits. And somehow couldn't sniff out drugged girls pulling rape trains every weekend at house parties around DC. Why are we paying these incompetent FBI agents?

MikeR said...

It's become insane. After two allegations that were invisible and impossible to disprove, now we have a _huge_ one, terribly disqualifying. The person making the accusation has numerous government clearances. And the accusation sounds completely wrong, completely unbelievable.

I was afraid of this. I and others have been afraid that anyone is now vulnerable to just anyone showing up with completely imaginary accusations. But these days people want to see multiple accusations - that's the real evidence!
But in this kind of case, what's the difference? If you can find a woman from all the people who ever knew Kavanaugh slightly who is willing to lie to protect Roe v. Wade, you can find five women as well.
I am Spartacus! I was attacked by Brett Kavanaugh!

And more hysterical. I fully expect Kavanaugh's former classmate's father's brother's barber's psychiatrist's bookie's sister to claim that the Judge shot a man in Reno, just to watch him die.

This is the most ridiculous and absurd thing ever. Creepy Porn Lawyer drafted that affidavit so that it would not be subject to a perjury rap. CPL needs to pay a steep, steep price. Disbarment is the first step.

Judge Kavanaugh has the libel case of all time against these people.

In the 90's, Omaha was consumed with rumors of what was known as the Franklin Credit Union scandal. A young woman thought she would be a lesser sentence and a big book and money deal if she spun a crazy tale about sex and drug parties with important Omaha people. She testified under oath that she had sex numerous time with the Omaha police chief. She said he had no scars on his body. He had a major arm scar from a bone graft due to a gunshot wound. She spent years in jail. State v. Owen, 1 Neb. App. 1060, 510 N.W.2d 503 (1993). These liars all deserve this.

Ms Swetnick's allegations raise multiple questions that demand a response.

We now have a pattern for the effective destruction of an innocent person: Send successive waves of accusations at a person, none of them corroborated, none of them substantiated, but coming at close enough intervals that the people hearing them cannot process them by the time the next comes up. At some point, the impression that these must have some basis in truth is left with the public.

I think in most circumstances, the average person has enough integrity to refuse to participate, but # resistance and the protection of Roe has driven people over the edge.

There’s no explaation here that doesn’t involve something seriously wrong, and we need to know what it is.

I know that defamation against a public figure is a hard case, but if she can’t give a satisfactory answer to those questions, it would be a travesty for Kav not to make a case against her, Av, or both. This is all very disturbing.

Not really. the affidavit (available on twitchy) shows the accusations are carefully weasel worded to leave the impression Kavanaugh was the ringleader while making no specific accusation. Swetnick claims to have been gang raped but does not identify anyone as the perp. She merely claims Kavanaugh was in line at other times similar to how other waited in line to rape her.

It doesn't change the insanity of the accusations but it protects her from perjury charges.

In a population of hundreds of millions anything you can think of has likely happened at one time or another. But the likelihood of any particular "train" story being invented rather than real (consensual or not) is at least 10 to 1, probably 100 to 1, and maybe 10,000 to 1. Kids can be cruel and starting this type of rumor is the kind of thing which would strike a certain kind of kid as funny - particularly if he had some kind of animosity toward the target.

That the NYT is scoffing at this women's accusation is marvelous. Thy may have downplayed the lack of corroboration in the other two cases because that has been widely acknowledged and the NYT is not one to rub it in. (!)

Lindsey Graham today said something worth repeating. To paraphrase: he said essentially that this was an additional insult to his intelligence. I suspect that most of the Republican senators have gotten to that point.

I admit that, like many others, I will be surprised if Ford actually testifies. Maybe the incentive pay to actually testify is high enough for her to risk the charge of "false statements", or maybe she has self-hypnotized and believes what she has been selling.

When we look back at this, I think we are going to see that Kavanaugh's principal vulnerability was his apparent fondness for beer expressed openly in his high school senior yearbook, together with his friendship with Mike Judge, who wrote quite graphically about his struggles with alcoholism, including blackouts. Using these keys the Dems built a flimsy edifice around a woman with psychological problems (Ford) who had a history with a therapist of describing a sexual assault that occurred when Kavanaugh was in high school. The details retroactively were shaped to focus on Judge and Kavanaugh, and the witnesses appeared in sequence.

It is the perfect Ben Rhodes operation.

It's all well and good to question the allegations etc. etc. But the circus only works because the Dems think the Collinses and Murkowskis can be turned.

McMartin is a good template especially considering the tie-in to fake science. McMartin had recovered memories providing a veneer of evidence.

Today's sex assault hysteria has fake studies alleging an absurd level of sexual assault. American college campuses are alleged to have more sexual assault than the Congo during its civil war when rape was used as a weapon. The difference is that the left intentionally created those propaganda studies to foster exactly this sort of environment. Because the institutions capable of contradicting these propaganda studies have been captured by the very far left ideologues who created the propaganda the farce continues.

These questions are very vague, and do not ask any specifics. They don't mention an offense, or an offender.

That's not an oversight.

I think the Democrats are aiming for a different standard: if there is any doubt, any suspicion that the accusation may be true, then the confirmation must be postponed. One cannot take such a chance.
The reason why this sounds reasonable is that there is no fixed standard for confirmation. So they can make it up as they go along.
Thus my standard is again different: if there is any suspicion that these false charges are made only for political gain and the reason they came up now and not earlier (months or even even years earlier) is that they are part of an orchestrated campaign to delay Kavanaugh's confirmation, then the Senate must confirm, so as to punish this rather clear abuse of the confirmation process.
Then let an investigation or several be conducted and let the Democrats try to impeach Kavanaugh. After all, as they keep mentioning with respect to Trump, impeachment need not be tied to a criminal offense. It can also be done for policy (and political) reasons. So let them hold an impeachment vote every week from now on, if they wish.
And the same goes for any future Democrat nominees.

The instinct of a few weak-kneed Republicans will be to recoil, save their own skin, and bend over backward to accommodate these 3 hit-and-run charges. Don't want to be accused of being insensitive to women's rights and serious sexual misconduct claims.

My suggestion:
1. Pause
2. Evaluate the actual claims without emotion.
3. Recognize what the Dems are trying to do. They are trying to chase Kavanaugh out with unsubstantiated claims, recapture the Senate, and never confirm another Trump judge.

So, take a step back and look again at the claims:

1. Ford claim: No written sworn statement, odd polygraph results, will she appear or not?
2. Ramirez claim: Dildo in the dorm room, won't appear. Ignore it.
3. Swetnick claim: Yes, written under oath, but bizarre generalizations. Disconnect between gang rape and BK's alleged presence at a party: Different high schools, different colleges, different ages, no evidence they've ever met. Many red flags.

I know it's difficult, but Flake and Collins and these other weasels need to stand tall.

The point is, at all the parties I personally attended, with some very rough individuals, I experienced nothing like I see reported over the last week from the DC area. I refuse to believe those are worse people than the ones that entered adulthood with me. McMartin is a good template especially considering the tie-in to fake science. McMartin had recovered memories providing a veneer of evidence.

Disagree. McMartin and the other day care cases involved small children and manipulative therapists.

Remember All Gore got a bill passed to investigate child abuse. That provided funds that could be accessed by therapists like Kee McFarlane who created the child abuse to get funding.

As part of her job at CII, MacFarlane interviewed 400 children for the McMartin preschool trial using anatomically correct dolls and hand puppets. MacFarlane believed that the children suffered from child sexual abuse accommodation syndrome, and would deny sexual abuse without special techniques designed to encourage disclosure.

She made a lot of money with it.

The present hysteria is more like the Recovered Memory hysteria

It involved troubled adult women, with either eating disorders or alcoholism.

Proponents of recovered memory therapy claim that traumatic memories can be buried in the subconscious and affect current behavior, and that these can be recovered. The term is not listed in DSM-IV nor is it recommended by mainstream ethical and professional mental health associations.

At one point the APA was running workshops at the convention as psychologists were under pressure from managed care that was limiting payment. Then Gary Ramona won his lawsuit and the malpractice carriers stopped offering insurance for it.
